4The sources of the upper and lower halocline water in the Canada Basin derived from isotopic tracers显示文摘Seawater samples were collected in the water column from the Canada Basin aboard RV Xuelong in August 1999. Concentrations of δ D, δ 18O, nutrients (NO3-, PO43-, SiO32-) and dissolved oxygen were measured, along with hydrographic parameters (salinity and temperature). Our results showed that the upper layer of the water column was characterized by the occurrence of the upper halocline water (UHW) and the lower halocline water (LHW). The UHW was associated with a salinity of 33.1 (~150m depth) and maximums of nutrients, NO and PO*, whereas minimums of NO and PO* (PO* = PO43- + O2/175-1.95 (mol/dm3) occurred at the depth of LHW (~300m depth). Two tracer systems, S-δ 18O-PO* and S-δ D-SiO32-, were used to estimate the fractions of the Atlantic water, Pacific water, river runoff and sea ice meltwater in water samples. Combined with the nutrient ratio NO/PO, it was suggested that the UHW was derived from the inflow of the Pacific water through the Bering Strait. These waters were modified to obtain the high salinity and nutrients in the Chukchi shelf or/and the east Siberian shelf. The LHW was maintained by inflow of the Atlantic water through Barents Sea and subsequent mixing with freshwater in the shelf region to produce the signals of NO and PO* minimums. In study basin, the river runoff signals were confined to water depths less than 300 m and the fractions of river runoff decreased with the increasing depth. Water column inventories of river runoff and sea ice meltwater were calculated between the surface and 300m. The river runoff inventories in the Canada Basin were higher than those in other sea areas, suggesting that the Canada basin is a major storage region for Arctic river water. 9A double-halocline structure in the Canada Basin of the Arctic Ocean显示文摘A year-round halocline is a particular hydrographic structure in the upper Arctic Ocean. On the basis of an analysis of the hydrographic data collected in the Arctic Ocean, it is found that a double-halocline structure exists in the upper layer of the southern Canada Basin, which is absolutely different from the Cold Halocline Layer (CHL) in the Eurasian Basin. The Pacific-origin water is the primary factor in the formation of the double-halocline structure. The upper halocline lies between the summer modification and the winter modification of the Pacific-origin water while the lower halocline results from the Pacific-origin water overlying upon the Atlantic-origin water. 10Nutrient maximums related to low oxygen concentrations in the southern Canada Basin显示文摘The phenomenon of nutrient maximums at 70~200 m occurred only in the region of the Canada Basin among the world oceans. The prevailing hypothesis was that the direct injection of the low-temperature high-nutrient brines from the Chukchi Sea shelf (<50 m) in winter provided the nutrient maximums. However, we found that there are five problems in the direct injection process. Formerly Jin et al. considered that the formation of nutrient maximums can be a process of locally long-term regeneration. Here we propose a regeneration-mixture process. Data of temperature, salinity, oxygen and nutrients were collected at three stations in the southern Canada Basin during the summer 1999 cruise. We identified the cores of the surface, near-surface, potential temperature maximum waters and Arctic Bottom Water by the diagrams and vertical profiles of salinity, potential temperature, oxygen and nutrients. The historical 129I data indicated that the surface and near-surface waters were Pacific-origin, but the waters below the potential temperature maximum core depth was Atlantic-origin. Along with the correlation of nutrient maximums and very low oxygen contents in the near-surface water, we hypothesize that, the putative organic matter was decomposed to inorganic nutrients; and the Pacific water was mixed with the Atlantic water in the transition zone. 11An Imported Case and an Infected Close Contact of the Omicron Variant of SARS-CoV-2—Guangdong Province,China,December 13,2021显示文摘On November 27,2021,a 67-year-old male returning from Canada via airplane was transferred to the central isolation hotel in Shanghai.During the quarantine,his 1st,4th,7th,and 14th days of specimens returned negative for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),which causes coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).On December 11,he completed 14 days of centralized isolation and returned to Guangzhou from Shanghai via airplane,then he was closed-loop transferred to Yuexiu District for a 7-day home isolation.On December 12,the local Community Health Service Center routinely collected his throat swab and the result returned to COVID-19 positive on December 13,2021.He was transported to the Guangzhou Eighth People’s Hospital for isolated treatment by negative pressure ambulance on the same day.The patient had two inflamed lungs according to the chest computed tomography(CT)examination,but his most recently updated condition was stable.An estimated 600 close contacts were identified and were placed in centralized isolation.On December 16,one of the close contacts,a 70-year-old female also tested positive for COVID-19.She lived on the lower floor of the same type of apartment as the imported case and spent 19 hours in the same building.Kuibiao Li Zhonghua Zheng Xiang Zhao Qing Zeng Tengfei Zhou Qianfang Guo Yao Hu Wenbo Xu Zhoubin Zhang Baisheng Li 2022China CDC weekly2022,4,5:4
12Concentrations of organophosphate flame retardants in dust from cars, homes, and offices: An international comparison显示文摘Concentrations of a number of organophosphate flame retardants(PFRs)were measured in floor dust collected from living rooms in Australia(n=42),Canada(n=14),Germany(n=22),and Kazakhstan(n=9);cars from Australia(n=39)and Germany(n=19);and offices from Germany(n=25)and Kazahkstan(n=8).PFR concentrations in these samples were compared with each other and with previously reported data for PFRs in dust from similar microenvironments in the UK.Our data reveal significant between-country differences in both absolute concentrations and the relative abundance of specific PFRs in each of the microenvironments studied.Most notably,concentrations of TCIPP in UK living room dust(median=21 μg g^-1)exceeded significantly(p<0.05)those in all other countries studied here;a substantial number of car dust samples contained elevated concentrations of TDCIPP,and German samples generally contained lower levels of PFRs in all microenvironments studied.In addition,PFRs were determined in dust samples collected from living room couches in both Australia(n=41)and the UK(n=10).The elevated concentrations of TCIPP in UK living room dust are likely attributable to the favoured use of this PFR in UK couch foam.This is indicated by concentrations of TCIPP in UK couch dust(median=610 μg g^-1)exceeding significantly those in Australian couch dust(median=2.9 μg g^-1).Moreover,concentrations of TCIPP in UK couch dust originating from couches 15 years old or less,display a marked relationship with the age of the couch,with concentrations in such samples increasing significantly(p<0.01)with couch age.Stuart Harrad Sandra Brommer Jochen F.Mueller 2016Emerging Contaminants2016,2,2:3

14The Voisey's Bay Ni-Cu-Co Sulfide Deposit, Labrador, Canada: Emplacement of Silicate and Sulfide-Laden Magmas into Spaces Created within a Structural Corridor显示文摘The Voisey's Bay Ni-Cu-Co sulfide deposit is hosted in a 1.34 Ga mafic intrusion that is part of the Nain Plutonic Suite in Labrador, Canada.The Ni-Cu-Co sulfide mineralization is associated with magmatic breccias that are typically contained in weakly mineralized olivine gabbros, troctolites and ferrogabbros, but also occur as veins in adjacent paragneiss.The mineralization is associated with a dyke-like body which is termed the feeder dyke.This dyke connects the shallow differentiated Eastern Deeps chamber in the east to a deeper intrusion in the west termed the Western Deeps Intrusion.Where the conduit is connected to the Eastern Deeps Intrusion, the Eastern Deeps Deposit is developed at the entry line of the dyke along the steep north wall of the Eastern Deeps Intrusion.The Eastern Deeps Deposit is surrounded by a halo of moderately to weakly mineralized Variable-Textured Troctolite (VTT) that reaches a maximum thickness above the ENE-WSW axis of the Eastern Deeps Deposit. At depth to the west, the conduit is adjacent to the south side of the Western Deeps Intrusion, where the dyke and intrusion contain disseminated magmatic sulfide mineralization.The Reid Brook Zone plunges to the east within the dyke, and both the dyke and adjacent paragneiss are mineralized.The Ovoid Deposit comprises a bowl-shaped body of massive sulfide where the dyke widens near to the present-day surface.It is not clear whether this deposit was developed as a widened-zone within the conduit or at the entry point into a chamber that is now lost to erosion. The massive sulfides and breccia sulfides of the Eastern Deeps are petrologically and chemically different when compared to the disseminated sulfides in the VTT; there is a marked break in Ni tenor (Ni content in 100% sulfide, abbreviated to [Ni]100) and Ni/Co of sulfide between the two.The boundary of the sulfide types is often marked by strong sub-horizontal alignment of heavily digested and metamorphosed paragneiss fragments, development of barren olivine gabbro, and by a change from typically massive sulfides and breccias sulfides into more typical variable-textured troctolites with heavy to weak disseminated sulfide.Sulfides hosted in the feeder dyke tend to have low metal tenors ([Ni]100=2.5%-3.5%); sulfides in Eastern Deeps massive and breccia ores have intermediate Ni tenors ([Ni]100=3.5%-4%) and disseminated sulfides in overlying rocks have high Ni tenors ([Ni] 100=4%-8%) . Conduit-hosted mineralization and mineral zones in the paragneiss adjacent to the Reid Brook Deposit tend to have lower Ni tenor than the Ovoid and Eastern Deeps Deposits.The tenor of mineral hosted in the country rock gneisses tends to be the same as that developed in the conduit ; the injection of the sulfide into the country rocks likely occurred before formation of monosulfide solid solution.The Ovoid Deposit is characterized by coarse-grained loop-textured ores consisting of 10cm-2msized pyrrhotite crystals separated by chalcopyrite and pentlandite.A small lens of massive cubanite surrounded by more magnetite-rich sulfide assemblages represents what appears to be the product of in-situ sulfide fractionation. Detailed exploration in the area between the Reid Brook Zone and the Eastern Deeps has shown that these intrusions and ore deposits are connected by a branched dyke and chamber system in a major westeast fault zone.The Eastern Deeps chamber may be controlled by graben-like fault structures , and the marginal structures appear to have controlled dykes which connect the chambers at different levels in the crust.The geological relationships in the intrusion are consistent with emplacement of the silicate and sulfide laden magma from a deeper sub-chamber (possibly a deep eastward extension of the Western Deeps Intrusion where S-saturation was initially achieved) .The silicate and sulfide magmas were likely emplaced through this conduit into the Eastern Deeps intrusion as a number of different fragment laden pulses of sulfide-silicate melt that evolved with different R factors and in response to some variation in the degree of evolution of the parental magma.S isotope and S/Se data coupled with geological evidence point to a crustal source for the sulfur , and the site of equilibration of mafic magma and crustal S is placed at depth in a sulfidic Tasiuyak Gneiss. The structural control on emplacement of small intrusions with transported sulfide is a feature found in different nickel sulfide deposits around the world.Champagne glass-shaped openings in sub-vertical chonoliths are a common morphology for this deposit type (e.g.the Jinchuan , Huangshan , Huangshandong , Jingbulake , Limahe , Hong Qi Ling deposits in China , the Eagle deposits in the United States , and the Double Eagle deposit in Canada) .Some of the structures of the Midcontinent Rift of North America also host Ni-Cu-(PGE) deposits of this type (e.g.the Current Lake Complex in the Quetico Fault Zone in Ontario , Canada and the Tamarac mineralisation in the Great Lakes Structural Zone of the United States) .Other major nickel deposits associated with flat structures adjacent to major mantle-penetrating structures include the Noril'sk , Noril'sk II , Kharaelakh , NW Talnakh , and NE Talnakh Intrusions of the Noril'sk Region of Russia , the Kalatongke deposit in NW China , and Babel-Nebo in Western Australia.These deposits are all formed in mantle-penetrating structural conduits that link into the roots of large igneous provinces near the edges of old cratons.Peter C.Lightfoot Dawn Evans-Lamswood Robert Wheeler 2012西北地质2012,45,4:3

16Climate change and permafrost stability in the eastern Canada Cordillera:The results of 33 years of measurements显示文摘Over the last 33 years,a network of climate stations has been set up at high altitude mountain permafrost sites from Plateau Mountain near Claresholm,Alberta,north to Sheldon Lake on the North Canol Road in the Yukon.Taken together with the data from the US National Weather Service and the Canadian Atmospheric Environment Service,the results indicate a cooling of mean annual air temperature south of Calgary,no significant change in Calgary,a slight warming at Jasper,and a major warming at Summit Lake,west of Fort Nelson.In contrast,the south eastern and central Yukon show only a minor warming trend that lies well within the limits of a sixty-year record measured by the Canadian Atmospheric Environment Service.Along the Mackenzie valley and on the North Slope of Alaska,the mean annual air temperature is rising.Permafrost is aggrading on Plateau Mountain,degrading at Summit Lake,and appears to be stable in southern Yukon and southern Alaska.This is in contrast to the warming occurring on the Arctic coastal plain and along the Mackenzie valley.It therefore appears that changes in climate vary considera-bly from place to place,and even where warming may occur,it may not continue indefinitely.There has been a northward shift of the arctic front due to a weakening of air pressure in the Yukon and Alaska relative to the continental tropical(cT) and maritime polar(mT) air masses to the south.Any actual changes that may be occurring appear to undergo amplification along the Mackenzie valley and Arctic coastal plain and reduction by buffering in the interior Yukon and Alaskan mountains,a result of mi-cro-environmental factors.Continued,careful monitoring of the climate is required and needs to be expanded in the National Parks in the mountains in order to provide data on the changes that may be taking place.Such measurements can provide a sound basis for interpreting ecological and other climate-related data.The existing climate models are not working satisfactorily because we do not know enough about the causes and processes involved in climate change.Improved results can indicate where best to site structures such as pipelines so as to minimize maintenance costs.Models may also help explain why certain areas such as Beringia,which saw reduced climate change,acted as important refugia during the glaciations.Stuart A.Harris 2009Research in Cold and Arid Regions2009,1,5:3
17Current management of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease—treatment costs,safety profile,and effectiveness:a narrative review显示文摘Background The purpose of this study was to review the current management of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease(GORD),including treatment costs,safety profile and effectiveness.Methods A literature review was performed of randomized-controlled trials,systematic reviews,Cochrane reports and National/Societal guidelines of themedical,endoscopic and surgicalmanagement of GORD.Proton pump inhibitor(PPI)prescribing patterns and expenditure were reviewed in different countries,including Australia,Canada,New Zealand,UK and USA.Results Proton pump inhibitors(PPIs)are primarily indicated for control of GORD,Helicobacter pylori eradication(combined with antibiotics),preventing NSAID-induced gastrointestinal bleeding and treating peptic ulcer disease.There is widespread overprescribing of PPIs in Western and Eastern nations in terms of indication and duration,with substantial expense for national health providers.Despite a favourable short-term safety profile,there are observational associations of adverse effects with long-term PPIs.These include nutrient malabsorption,enteric infections and cardiovascular events.The prevalence of PPI use makes their long-termsafety profile clinically relevant.Cost-benefit,symptom control and quality-oflife outcomes favour laparoscopic fundoplication rather than chronic PPI treatment.Laparoscopic fundoplication in long-termmanagement of PPI-responsive GORD is supported by SAGES,NICE and ACG,and PPI-refractory GORD by AGA and SAGES guidelines.The importance of establishing a definitive diagnosis prior to invasive management is emphasized,especially in PPI-refractory heartburn.Conclusions We examined evidence-based guidelines for PPI prescribing and deprescribing in primary care and hospital settings and the need for PPI stewardship and education of health professionals.This narrative review presents the advantages and disadvantages of surgical,endoscopic and medical management of GORD,which may assist in shared decision making and treatment choice in individual patients.Tahmina Lata Jodie Trautman Philip Townend Robert B.Wilson 2023Gastroenterology Report2023,11,1:3
18Cronkhite-Canada syndrome complicated with three malignant tumors: a case report and whole exome sequencing analysis显示文摘To the Editor:Cronkhite-Canada syndrome(CCS)is a rare,non-hereditary disease characterized by diffuse gastrointestinal polyposis and ectodermal abnormalities.[1]Although CCS polyps are not considered to be neoplastic,15%to 25%patients have been documented with colorectal or gastric cancer at diagnosis,and up to 40%of patients have been documented with adenomas and adenomatous changes.[2]Extra-gastrointestinal neoplasms have been sporadically reported,but their association with CCS remains under investigation.The underlying mechanism of CCS has been less investigated,with only one whole exome sequencing(WES)study that identified a protein kinase DNA-activated catalytic subunit(PRKDC)DNA variant that might contribute to the pathogenesis.[3]Here,we report a case of CCS that was complicated with three malignant tumors.WES analysis of this case identified certain germline mutations that might provide insight into the pathogenesis.This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Peking Union Medical College Hospital,Peking Union Medical College and Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences(No.ZS-1725).Shuang Liu Yan You Dan Chen Jia-Ming Qian Ji Li 2019Chinese Medical Journal2019,,24:2
19Significance of ichnofossils to genetic stratigraphy——Examples from the Cretaceous of Alberta, Canada显示文摘Trace fossils represent both sedimentological and paleontological entities, representing a unique blending of potential environmental indicators in the rock record. Trace fossils and trace fossil suites can be employed effectively to aid in the recognition of various discontinuity types and to assist in their genetic interpretation. Ichnology may be employed to resolve surfaces of strati-graphic significance in two main ways: 1) through the identification of discontinuities using substrate-controlled ichnofacies, and 2) through careful analysis of vertical softground (penecontem-poraneous) ichnologic successions (analogous to facies successions). Ichnological analysis is a valuable tool in genetic stratigraphic studies. Integrating the data derived from substrate-controlled ichnofacies with paleoecological data from vertical ichnologic successions greatly enhances the recognition and interpretation of a wide variety of stratigraphic surfaces.
