2Anisotropic coding metamaterials and their powerful manipulation of differently polarized terahertz waves显示文摘Metamaterials based on effective media can be used to produce a number of unusual physical properties(for example,negative refraction and invisibility cloaking)because they can be tailored with effective medium parameters that do not occur in nature.Recently,the use of coding metamaterials has been suggested for the control of electromagnetic waves through the design of coding sequences using digital elements‘0’and‘1,'which possess opposite phase responses.Here we propose the concept of an anisotropic coding metamaterial in which the coding behaviors in different directions are dependent on the polarization status of the electromagnetic waves.We experimentally demonstrate an ultrathin and flexible polarization-controlled anisotropic coding metasurface that functions in the terahertz regime using specially designed coding elements.By encoding the elements with elaborately designed coding sequences(both 1-bit and 2-bit sequences),the x-and y-polarized waves can be anomalously reflected or independently diffused in three dimensions.The simulated far-field scattering patterns and near-field distributions are presented to illustrate the dual-functional performance of the encoded metasurface,and the results are consistent with the measured results.We further demonstrate the ability of the anisotropic coding metasurfaces to generate a beam splitter and realize simultaneous anomalous reflections and polarization conversions,thus providing powerful control of differently polarized electromagnetic waves.The proposed method enables versatile beam behaviors under orthogonal polarizations using a single metasurface and has the potential for use in the development of interesting terahertz devices.Shuo Liu Tie Jun Cui Quan Xu Di Bao Liangliang Du Xiang Wan Wen Xuan Tang Chunmei Ouyang Xiao Yang Zhou Hao Yuan Hui Feng Ma Wei Xiang Jiang Jiaguang Han Weili Zhang Qiang Cheng 2016Light(Science & Applications)2016,5,1:36
3Graphene: a promising 2D material for electrochemical energy storage显示文摘Graphene, with unique two-dimensional form and numerous appealing properties, promises to remarkably increase the energy density and power density of electrochemical energy storage devices(EESDs),ranging from the popular lithium ion batteries and supercapacitors to next-generation high-energy batteries. Here, we review the recent advances of the state-of-the-art graphene-based materials for EESDs,including lithium ion batteries, supercapacitors, micro-supercapacitors, high-energy lithium-air and lithium-sulfur batteries, and discuss the importance of the pore, doping, assembly, hybridization and functionalization of different nano-architectures in improving electrochemical performance. The major roles of graphene are highlighted as(1) a superior active material,(2) ultrathin 2D flexible support,and(3) an inactive yet electrically conductive additive. Furthermore, we address the enormous potential of graphene for constructing new-concept emerging graphene-enabled EESDs with multiple functionalities of lightweight, ultra-flexibility, thinness, and novel cell configurations. 7Cancer stem cells in glioblastoma—molecular signaling and therapeutic targeting显示文摘Glioblastomas(GBMs)are highly lethal primary brain tumors.Despite current therapeutic advances in other solid cancers,the treatment of these malignant gliomas remains essentially palliative.GBMs are extremely resistant to conventional radiation and chemotherapies.We and others have demonstrated that a highly tumorigenic subpopulation of cancer cells called GBM stem cells(GSCs)promotes therapeutic resistance.We also found that GSCs stimulate tumor angiogenesis by expressing elevated levels of VEGF and contribute to tumor growth,which has been translated into a useful therapeutic strategy in the treatment of recurrent or progressive GBMs.Furthermore,stem cell-like cancer cells(cancer stem cells)have been shown to promote metastasis.Although GBMs rarely metastasize beyond the central nervous system,these highly infiltrative cancers often invade into normal brain tissues preventing surgical resection,and GSCs display an aggressive invasive phenotype.These studies suggest that targeting GSCs may effectively reduce tumor recurrence and significantly improve GBM treatment.Recent studies indicate that cancer stem cells share core signaling pathways with normal somatic or embryonic stem cells,but also display critical distinctions that provide important clues into useful therapeutic targets.In this review,we summarize the current understanding and advances in glioma stem cell research,and discuss potential targeting strategies for future development of anti-GSC therapies.Zhi Huang Lin Cheng Olga A.Guryanova Qiulian Wu Shideng Bao 2010Protein & Cell2010,1,7:18

9Monthly discharge forecasting using wavelet neural networks with extreme learning machine显示文摘Accurate and reliable hydrological forecasting is essential for water resource management. Feedforward neural networks can provide satisfactory forecast results in most cases, but traditional gradient-based training algorithms are usually time-consuming and may easily converge to local minimum. Hence, how to obtain more appropriate parameters for feedforward neural networks with more precise prediction within shorter time has been a challenging task. Extreme learning machine(ELM), a new training algorithm for single-hidden layer feedforward neural networks(SLFNs), has been proposed to avoid these disadvantages. In this study, a conjunction model of wavelet neural networks with ELM(WNN-ELM) is proposed for 1-month ahead discharge forecasting. The à trous wavelet transform is used to decompose the original discharge time series into several sub-series. The sub-series are then used as inputs for SLFNs coupled with ELM algorithm(SLFNs-ELM); the output is the next step observed discharge. For comparison, the SLFNs-ELM and support vector machine(SVM) are also employed. Monthly discharge time series data from two reservoirs in southwestern China are derived for validating the models. In addition, four quantitative standard statistical performance evaluation measures are utilized to evaluate the model performance. 16THE EFFECTS OF RADIATION STRESS ON WAVE HEIGHTS AND SEA LEVEL IN THE INTERACTION OF COUPLED WAVE-TIDE-SURGE IN THE COASTAL AREA显示文摘Based on coastal high resolution (2′×2′) coupled wave tide surge interaction numerical model, the effects of radiation stress on wave heights and sea level in the coastal area of Huanghe Delta were studied. By comparisons of simulated and measured wave heights and sea level for two mediately strong weather cases, it is demonstrated that the results simulated by coupled wave tide surge model are closer to the measured and particularly in excellent agreement in the extreme values of the wave heights and set up. This study shows that the radiation stress can increase the wave heights maximally to 67cm and sea level to 40cm. It is also found that there are areas of over 50cm wave height increase and an area of over 20cm sea level increase in the Huanghe Delta coastal area, and this find may be very important in engineering. 18SOCS1/JAK2/STAT3 axis regulates early brain injury induced by subarachnoid hemorrhage via inflammatory responses显示文摘The SOCS1/JAK2/STAT3 axis is strongly associated with tumor growth and progression,and participates in cytokine secretion in many diseases.However,the effects of the SOCS1/JAK2/STAT3 axis in experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage remain to be studied.A subarachnoid hemorrhage model was established in rats by infusing autologous blood into the optic chiasm pool.Some rats were first treated with JAK2/STAT3 small interfering RNA(Si-JAK2/Si-STAT3)or overexpression plasmids of JAK2/STAT3.In the brains of subarachnoid hemorrhage model rats,the expression levels of both JAK2 and STAT3 were upregulated and the expression of SOCS1 was downregulated,reaching a peak at 48 hours after injury.Simultaneously,the interactions between JAK2 and SOCS1 were reduced.In contrast,the interactions between JAK2 and STAT3 were markedly enhanced.Si-JAK2 and Si-STAT3 treatment alleviated cortical neuronal cell apoptosis and necrosis,destruction of the blood-brain barrier,brain edema,and cognitive functional impairment after subarachnoid hemorrhage.This was accompanied by decreased phosphorylation of JAK2 and STAT3 protein,decreased total levels of JAK2 and STAT3 protein,and increased SOCS1 protein expression.However,overexpression of JAK2 and STAT3 exerted opposite effects,aggravating subarachnoid hemorrhage-induced early brain injury.Si-JAK2 and Si-STAT3 inhibited M1-type microglial conversion and the release of pro-inflammatory factors(inducible nitric oxide synthase,interleukin-1β,and tumor necrosis factor-α)and increased the release of anti-inflammatory factors(arginase-1,interleukin-10,and interleukin-4).Furthermore,primary neurons stimulated with oxyhemoglobin were used to simulate subarachnoid hemorrhage in vitro,and the JAK2 inhibitor AG490 was used as an intervention.The in vitro results also suggested that neuronal protection is mediated by the inhibition of JAK2 and STAT3 expression.Together,our findings indicate that the SOCS1/JAK2/STAT3 axis contributes to early brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage both in vitro and in vivo by inducing inflammatory responses.This study was approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of Anhui Medical University and the First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology of China(approval No.LLSC-20180202)on March 1,2018.Yang Wang Xiang-Qian Kong Fei Wu Bin Xu De-Jun Bao Chuan-Dong Cheng Xiang-Ping Wei Yong-Fei Dong Chao-Shi Niu 2021Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,12:11
19Hepatitis C virus in human B lymphocytes transformed by Epstein-Barr virus in vitro by in situ reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction显示文摘AIM To study persistence and replication ofheltitis C virus (HCV) in patients' peripheralblood mononuclear cells (PBMC) cultured invitro.METHODS Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) was usedto transform the hepatitis C virus from a HCVpositive patient to permanent lymphoblastoidcell lines (LCL). Positive and negative HCV RNAstrands of the cultured cells and growth mediawere detected by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction ( RT-PCR ) eachmonth. Core and NS5 proteins of HCV werefurther tested using immunohistochemical SPmethod and in situ RT-PCR.RESULTS HCV RNA positive strands wereconsistently detected the cultured cells for oneyear.
