1Helicobacter pylori infection and risk of gastric cancer in Changle County,Fujian Province,China显示文摘AIM To evaluate the effects of Helicobacterpylori infection and other environmental factorson the development of gastric cancer.METHODS A population-based case-controlstudy was conducted in Changle County,FujianProvince.The primary gastric cancer cases werehistologically confirmed or diagnosed by surgerybetween,January 1996 and March 1998.Healthycontrols were randomly selected and matched byage,sex,and neighborhood of residence.Atotal of 101 pairs were included in the study.Specially trained interviewers conducted face-to-face interviews with the subjects according toa standardized questionnaire.Helicobacterpylori infections were measured by serum IgGantibody to Helicobacter pylori.ConditionalLogistic Regression analysis was used.RESULTS The presence of IgG antibody toHelicobacter pylori was 63.7% in studysubjects,56.0% in patients with cardiac cancer,and 60.5% in patients with non-cardiac gastriccancer.The risk factors of gastric cancer inChangle County were identified such as loweducational level[OR=3.864;95% confidenceinterval(95% CI)1.604-9.311],lowconsumption of fresh vegetables(OR=4.925;95%Cl 1.356-17.885),high intake of fish sauce(OR=10.587;95% Cl 2.821-39.738),unscheduled meals(OR=4.254;95%Cl 1.445- 12.552),and Helicobacter pylori infection(OR=3.453;95%Cl 0.901-13.224).CONCLUSION Helicobacter pylori infectionmay be important in the etiology of gastriccancer,but major risk factors other thanHelicobacter pylori are responsible for the highgastric morbidity in Changle County.Lin Cai Shun Zhang Yu Zuo Feng Zhang 2000World Journal of Gastroenterology2000,6,3:74
2Fish sauce and gastric cancer:an ecological study in Fujian Province,China显示文摘AIM To explore the relationship betweenconsumption of fish sauce and the risk of gastriccancer in Fujian Province.METHODS An ecological study was carriedout.A total of 11000 subjects from 55 townshipswere randomly selected from 10 counties withinFujian Province.All subjects were localresidents who had been living in Fujian Provincefor more than 20 years,within the age group of45-74 years.Trained interviewers conductedface-to-face interviews with a standardizedquestionnaire,which covered the frequency andamount of food intake,dietary habit,tobaccoand alcohol consumption and history of chronicgastric diseases.Univariate and multivariateanalyses were performed using Epi-info and SASstatistical packages,respectively.RESULTS A significant correlation betweenmonthly consumption of fish sauce and mortalityof gastric cancer was found.Pearson’scoefficient of correlation was statisticallysignificant with r=0.7356 for males,r=0.5246for females(P<0.01).In the multivariateanalysis,consumption of fish sauce still showedan association with the risk of gastric cancer.No significant positive correlation betweenesophagus cancer,liver cancer,colon cancerand consumption of fish sauce were observed.CONCLUSION Long-term intake of fish saucemay be related to high mortality of gastriccancer.Consumption of fish sauce might be oneof important and unique etiologic factors ofgastric cancer in Fujian Province.Furtherstudies are needed to confirm this ecologicalstudy.Lin Cai Shun Zhang Yu Wei Min Ye Ying Nan Yi 2000World Journal of Gastroenterology2000,6,5:18
3Influence of induced ciprofloxacin resistance on efflux pump activity of Klebsiella pneumoniae显示文摘Objective:The efflux pump(EP) is one of the major mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae.However,there are few reports on the effect of the abuse of antibiotic use on the activity of EPs.To determine whether the use of low efficacy antibiotics has any effect on the activity of EPs and induces drug resistance in K.pneumoniae,we investigated the effect of ciprofloxacin on the activity of EPs in K.pneumoniae strains.Methods:Sixteen susceptible K.pneumoniae strains were isolated from patients and their minimum inhibitory concentrations(MICs) of ciprofloxacin were measured in the absence and presence of the pump inhibitor carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenyl hydrazone(CCCP).The strains were then induced with a gradient of ciprofloxacin until the MICs of the strains showed no further increase,to obtain induced resistant strains.The EP activities of the strains before and after induction were compared using EP inhibition and ethidium bromide(EtBr) accumulation assays.Results:The MIC values of the strains were 16 256 times higher after induction than before induction.In the presence of CCCP,the MIC values of 50% of the induced strains were 2 4-fold lower than that in the absence of this inhibitor.The EtBr accumulation assay showed that the fluorescence of EtBr in the induced cells was lower than that in the cells before induction.Conclusions:EPs are widespread in susceptible and drug-resistant K.pneumoniae strains.Induction with ciprofloxacin may increase the activity of EPs in K.pneumoniae.The EtBr accumulation assay is more sensitive than the EP inhibition assay in evaluating the activity of EPs in K.pneumoniae.Hai-qin ZHONG Shun ZHANG Hong PAN Ting CAI 2013Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2013,14,9:5
4Wolbachia enhances expression of NICYP4CE1 in Nilaparvata lugens in response to imidacloprid stress显示文摘The brown planthopper,Nilaparvata lugens,is one of the main insect pests of rice.The N.lugens gene NICYP4CE1 encodes cytochrome P450 monooxygenase(P450),which is a key enzyme in the metabolism of the insecticide imidacloprid.Previous research has suggested that the expression of NICYP4CEI is induced by imidacloprid stress,but the effect of bacterial symbionts on its expression has not been determined.The results of this study show that exposure to subtoxic imidacloprid changed the structure of the bacterial symbiont community in N.lugens.Specifically,the total bacterial content increased but the bacterial species diversity significantly decreased.Wolbachia accounted for the largest proportion of bacteria in N.lugens;its abundance significantly increased after subtoxic imidacloprid exposure.The transcript level of NICYP4CEI was significantly increased by imidacloprid,but this effect was significantly weakened after Wolbachia was cleared with tetracycline.This result suggests that Wolbachia enhances the expression of N1CYP4CE1 to promote the detoxification metabolic response to imidacloprid stress.Understanding the effect of bacterial symbionts on gene expression in the host provides a new perspective on interactions between insecticides and their target insect pests,and highlights that subtoxic imidacloprid exposure may raise the risk of insecticide resistance by altering the structure of bacterial symbiont communities.Tingwei Cai Yunhua Zhang Yu Liu Xiaoqian Deng Shun He Jianhong Li Hu Wan 2021Insect Science2021,28,2:4

12Towards magnetism in pigeon MagR: Iron- and iron-sulfur binding work indispensably and synergistically显示文摘The ability to navigate long distances is essential for many animals to locate shelter,food,and breeding grounds.Magnetic sense has evolved in various migratory and homing species to orient them based on the geomagnetic field.A highly conserved ironsulfur cluster assembly protein IscA is proposed as an animal magnetoreceptor(MagR).Iron-sulfur cluster binding is also suggested to play an essential role in MagR magnetism and is thus critical in animal magnetoreception.In the current study,we provide evidence for distinct iron binding and iron-sulfur cluster binding in MagR in pigeons,an avian species that relies on the geomagnetic field for navigation and homing.Pigeon MagR showed significantly higher total iron content from both iron-and ironsulfur binding.Y65 in pigeon MagR was shown to directly mediate mononuclear iron binding,and its mutation abolished iron-binding capacity of the protein.Surprisingly,both iron binding and iron-sulfur binding demonstrated synergistic effects,and thus appear to be integral and indispensable to pigeon MagR magnetism.These results not only extend our current understanding of the origin and complexity of MagR magnetism,but also imply a possible molecular explanation for the huge diversity in animal magnetoreception.Yajie Zhou Tianyang Tong Mengke Wei Peng Zhang Fan Fei Xiujuan Zhou Zhen Guo Jing Zhang Huangtao Xu Lei Zhang Shun Wang Junfeng Wang Tiantian Cai Xin Zhang Can Xie 2023Zoological Research2023,44,1:1

14Numerical simulation of landscape evolution and mountain uplift history constrain——A case study from the youthful stage mountains around the central Hexi Corridor,NE Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Landscape evolution models(LEMs)are essential tools for analyzing tectonic-climate interactions and reproducing landform-shaping processes.In this study we used a LEM to simulate the evolution of the mountains from the central Hexi Corridor in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau,where the climate is arid and the surface processes are relatively uniform.However,there are pronounced differences in the topography between the mountains around the central Hexi Corridor.The East Jintanan Shan,West Jintanan Shan and Heli Shan are located in the northern part of the corridor;and the Yumu Shan in the southern part.Firstly,several representative areas were selected from these mountains to analyze the topographic characteristics,including the uniform valley spacing,local relief,and the outlet number.Secondly,a LEM for these areas was constructed using the Landlab platform,and the landscape evolution was simulated.With uniform valley spacing and other topographic characteristics as the criteria,we compared the realistic and simulated terrain for different model ages.Finally,based on the similarity of the simulated and realistic terrain,we estimated the timing of the initial uplift and the uplift rate of the four mountain ranges.The results are consistent with previous geological and geomorphological records from these youthful stage mountains that have not yet reached a steady state.Our findings demonstrate that LEMs combined with topographic characteristics are a reliable means of constraining the timing of the initial uplift and the uplift rate of the youthful stage mountain.Our approach can potentially be applied to other youthful stage mountains and it may become a valuable tool in tectonic geomorphology research.Baotian PAN Shun CAI Haopeng GENG 2021Science China Earth Sciences2021,64,3:1
