| 2 | Effects of mulberry leaf flavonoid and resveratrol on methane emission and nutrient digestion in sheep显示文摘As a new type of methane control agent, natural plant extract has been widely studied in recent years,but in vivo studies are few. This study was to investigate the effects of the dietary supplementation of 2 different polyphenols on the methane(CH4) emission and digestion metabolism in sheep. Ten healthy crossbred sheep(Dorper(?)× small-tailed Han ♀; BW 60.0 ± 1.73 kg) were used in a change-over design.The sheep were fed the following 3 diets in the present study: the basal diet(CON) with no supplementation; the basal diet supplemented with 2 g mulberry leaf flavonoid(MLF) per day per sheep; the basal diet supplemented with 0.25 g resveratrol(RES) per day per sheep. Both MLF and RES reduced CH4 emission scaled to metabolic weight per kilogram of DMI and CO2 output scaled to metabolic weight, but the effect of RES was significant(P < 0.05). Both MLF and RES significantly improved apparent digestibility of DM, OM, NDF, ADF, and nitrogen, but the effect of RES was significant(P < 0.05). Both MLF and RES significantly improved ME(P < 0.05) and reduced energy losses in CH4 emission(P > 0.05). | 4 | Distribution of cagG gene in Helicobacter pylori isolates from Chinese patients with different gastroduodenal diseases and its clinical and pathological significance显示文摘AIM: To determine the distribution of cagG gene of Helicobacter pylori(Hpylori) isolates cultured from patients with various digestive diseases and its relationship with gastroduodenal diseases.METHODS: cagG was amplified by polymerase chain reaction in 145 H pylori isolates cultured from patients with chronic gastritis (n=72), duodenal ulcer (n=48), gastric ulcer (n=17), or gastric and duodenal ulcer (n=8), and the relationship between cagGstatus and the grade of gastric mucosal inflammation was determined.RESULTS: cagG was present in 91.7% of the 145 H pylori isolates, with the rates were 90.3%, 93.8%, 88.2% and 100.0%, respectively, in those from patients with chronic gastritis, duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, and gastric and duodenal ulcer. There was no significant difference among the four groups (P>0.05). The average grade of gastric mucosal inflammation in the antrum and corpus was 1.819±0.325and 1.768±0.312, respectively in cagG positive patients,whereas the average inflammation grade was 1.649±0.297,1.598±0.278 respectively in cagG negative cases (P>0.05).CONCLUSION: cagG gene of H pylori was quite conservative,and most H pylori strains in Chinese patients were cagG positive.cagG status was not related to clinical outcome or the degree of gastric mucosal inflammation. | 15 | Predictive parameters on CT scan for dysthyroid optic neuropathy显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the value of parameters on CT scan in predicting dysthyroid optic neuropathy(DON)and to provide guidance for early diagnosis of DON accordingly.METHODS:A total of 67 eyes of 35 patients with thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy(TAO)were included in this study.Patients were divided into 2 groups(DON group and non-DON group).Parameters were measured on high resolution CT,including muscle index(MI),superior ophthalmic vein(SOV)dilatation,extraocular muscle volume/orbit volume(MV/OV),and intracranial fat prolapsed,and be compared between these 2 groups.The relation between those parameters and visual function[visual acuity(VA)and visual field defect(VF defect)]were also evaluated.RESULTS:MI and MV/OV were significantly higher in DON group(P=0.00035 and P=0.00026).No significant difference was detected regarding intracranial fat prolapse existence and SOV dilatation(P=0.37 and P=0.15).MV/OV was found to have significant negative correlation with both VF defect(R=-0.332,P=0.0273)and VA(R=-0.635,P=0.00)while MI was found to have negative linear correlation with VA only(R=-0.456,P=0.00017).The area under receiver operating characteristic curves was 0.82 for MV/OV and 0.75 for MI.The best performance in detecting DON was achieved when MV/OV is set at 0.20 with 72%sensitivity and 87%specificity and MI is set at 0.52 with 64%sensitivity and 80%specificity.CONCLUSION:MI and MV/OV are predictive parameters for DON.Together with clinical manifestations,MV/OV≥0.2 can be used as a good indicator for DON in TAO patients. | Bo Yu Can Gong Yuan-Fei Ji Yu Xia Yun-Hai Tu Wen-Can Wu | 2020 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2020,13,8: | 1 |

| 19 | Short-term effects of cupping and scraping therapy for chronic nonspecific low-back pain:A prospective,multicenter randomized trial显示文摘Background As one of the most common musculoskeletal ailments,chronic nonspecific low-back pain(CNLBP)causes persistent disability and substantial medical expenses.Epidemiological evidence shows that the incidence rate of CNLBP in young and middle-aged people who are demanded rapidly recovery and social contribution is rising.Recent guidelines indicate a reduced role for medicines in the management of CNLBP.Objective The present study investigates the short-term effects of cupping and scraping therapy using a medicated balm,compared to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug(NSAID)with a capsaicin plaster,in the treatment of CNLBP.Design,setting,participants and interventions We designed a prospective multicenter randomized clinical trial enrolling patients from January 1,2022 to December 31,2022.A total of 156 patients with CNLBP were randomized into two parallel groups.Diclofenac sodium-sustained release tablets were administered orally to participants in the control group for one week while a capsaicin plaster was applied externally.Patients in the test group were treated with cupping and scraping using a medical device and medicated balm.Main outcome measures Primary outcome was pain recorded using the visual analogue scale(VAS).Two secondary outcomes were recorded using the Japanese Orthopedic Association low-back pain scale(JOA)and the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome integral scale(TCMS)as assessment tools.Results Between baseline and postintervention,all changes in outcome metric scales were statistically significant(P<0.001).Compared to the control group,patients in the test group had a significantly greater treatment effect in all outcome variables,as indicated by lower VAS and TCMS scores and higher JOA scores,after the one-week intervention period(P<0.001).Further,according to the findings of multivariate linear regression analysis,the participants’pain(VAS score)was related to their marital status,age,smoking habits and body mass index.No adverse reactions were reported for any participants in this trial.Conclusion The effectiveness of TCM combined with the new physiotherapy tool is superior to that of NSAID combined with topical plasters,regarding to pain intensity,TCM symptoms and quality of life.The TCM plus physiotherapy also showed more stable and long-lasting therapeutic effects. | Jun-yan He Xiao-yu Tu Zi-fei Yin Hui Mu Ming-jun Luo Xing-yu Chen Wei-bin Cai Xue Zhao Can Peng Fan-fu Fang Can Lü Bai Li | 2024 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2024,22,1: | 0 |
