| 4 | A universal strategy for the creation of machine learning-based atomistic force fields显示文摘Emerging machine learning(ML)-based approaches provide powerful and novel tools to study a variety of physical and chemical problems.In this contribution,we outline a universal strategy to create ML-based atomistic force fields,which can be used to perform high-fidelity molecular dynamics simulations.This scheme involves(1)preparing a big reference dataset of atomic environments and forces with sufficiently low noise,e.g.,using density functional theory or higher-level methods,(2)utilizing a generalizable class of structural fingerprints for representing atomic environments,(3)optimally selecting diverse and nonredundant training datasets from the reference data,and(4)proposing various learning approaches to predict atomic forces directly(and rapidly)from atomic configurations.From the atomistic forces,accurate potential energies can then be obtained by appropriate integration along a reaction coordinate or along a molecular dynamics trajectory.Based on this strategy,we have created model ML force fields for six elemental bulk solids,including Al,Cu,Ti,W,Si,and C,and show that all of them can reach chemical accuracy.The proposed procedure is general and universal,in that it can potentially be used to generate ML force fields for any material using the same unified workflow with little human intervention.Moreover,the force fields can be systematically improved by adding new training data progressively to represent atomic environments not encountered previously. | Tran Doan Huan Rohit Batra James Chapman Sridevi Krishnan Lihua Chen Rampi Ramprasad | 2017 | npj Computational Materials2017,,1: | 10 |
| 5 | Combined treatment of non-small cell lung cancer using radiotherapy and immunotherapy: challenges and updates显示文摘The efficacy of immunotherapy for advanced non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)remains unsatisfactory,as the majority of patients either do not experience an objective response or acquire secondary resistance.As a result,several methods to enhance the systemic efficacy of immunotherapy have been investigated,including a large area of active research by combining immunotherapy with radiation therapy(RT).Given the rapidly burgeoning concept of combining immunotherapy and RT for increasing therapeutic benefit,we review the progress in this field thus far and explore further avenues for enhancing this combination.This review commences with a discussion of the only two existing randomized trials(and a pooled analysis)showing that the addition of RT to immunotherapy improves the abscopal response rate,progression-free survival,and overall survival in metastatic NSCLC patients.We then discussed factors and biomarkers that may be associated with a proportionally greater benefit to additional RT,such as low programmed cell death protein ligand 1(PD-L1)status,tumor mutational burden(TMB),and patient’s immune function.Next,the implementation of RT to overcome immunotherapy resistance is discussed,including a mechanistic discussion and methods with which these mechanisms could be exploited.Lastly,the emerging role of low-dose RT is discussed,which may help to overcome inhibitory signals in the tumor stroma that limit T-cell infiltration.Taken together,given the current state of this rapidly expanding realm,these futuristic strategies may be reflected upon to further enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy for a wider group of patients. | Shijie Shang Jie Liu Vivek Verma Meng Wu James Welsh Jinming Yu Dawei Chen | 2021 | Cancer Communications2021,41,11: | 10 |
| 6 | The Weng'an biota and the Ediacaran radiation of multicellular eukaryotes显示文摘The rise of multicellularity represents a major evolutionary transition and it occurred independently in multiple eukaryote clades.Although simple multicellular organisms may have evolved in the Mesoproterozoic Era or even earlier,complex multicellular eukaryotes began to diversify only in the Ediacaran Period,just before the Cambrian explosion.hus,the Ediacaran fossil record can provide key paleontological evidence about the early radiation of multicellular eukaryotes that ultimately culminated in the Cambrian explosion.he Ediacaran Weng’an biota in South China hosts exceptionally preserved eukaryote fossils,including various acanthomorphic acritarchs,pseudoparenchymatous thalli,tubular microfossils,and spheroidal fossils such as Megasphaera,Helicoforamina,Spiralicellula,and Caveasphaera.Many of these fossils have been interpreted as multicellular eukaryotes,although alternative interpretations have also been proposed.In this review,we critically examine these various interpretations,focusing particularly on Megasphaera,which has been variously interpreted as a sulfur-oxidizing bacterium,a unicellular protist,a mesomycetozoean-like holozoan,a volvocine green alga,a stem-group animal,or a crown-group animal.We conclude that Megasphaera is a multicellular eukaryote with evidence for cell-to-cell adhesion,a lexible membrane unconstrained by a rigid cell wall,spatial cellular diferentiation,germ–soma separation,and programmed cell death.hese features are inconsistent with the bacterium,unicellular protist,and mesomycetozoean-like holozoan interpretations.hus,the surviving hypotheses,particularly the stem-group animal and algal interpretations,should be further tested with additional evidence.he Weng’an biota also hosts cellularly diferentiated pseudoparenchymatous thalli with specialized reproductive structures indicative of an ainity with lorideophyte red algae.he other Weng’an fossils reviewed here may also be multicellular eukaryotes,although direct cellular evidence is lacking in some and phylogenetic ainities are poorly constrained in others.he Weng’an biota ofers many research opportunities to resolve the life histories and phylogenetic diversity of early multicellular eukaryotes and to illuminate the evolutionary prelude to the Cambrian explosion. | Shuhai Xiao A.D.Muscente Lei Chen Chuanming Zhou James D.Schiffbauer Andrew D.Wood Nicholas F.Polys Xunlai Yuan | 2014 | National Science Review2014,1,4: | 9 |

| 9 | Evaluation of Glycosaminoglycan in the Lumbar Disc Using Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer MR at 3.0 Tesla:Reproducibility and Correlation with Disc Degeneration显示文摘Objective This study aims to explore the clinical applicability and relevance of glycosaminoglycan Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer(gag CEST) for intervertebral disc. Methods 25 subjects ranging in age from 24 yrs to 74 yrs were enrolled. gag CEST was acquired using a single-slice TSE sequence on a 3T. Saturation used a continuous rectangular RF pulse with B1=0.8 μT and a fixed duration time =1100 ms. Sagittal image was obtained firstly without saturation pulse, and then saturated images were acquired at 52 offsets ranging from ±0.125 to ±7 parts per million(ppm). MR T2 relaxivity map was acquired at the identical location. Six subjects were scanned twice to assess scan-rescan reproducibility. Results Gag CEST intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC) of six subjects was 0.759 for nucleus pulposus(NP) and 0.508 for annulus fibrosus(AF). Bland-Altman plots showed NP had a mean difference of 0.10%(95% limits of agreement:-3.02% to 3.22%); while that of AF was 0.34%(95% limits of agreement:-2.28% to 2.95%). For the 25 subjects, gag CEST in NP decreased as disc degeneration increased, with a similar trend to T2 relaxivity. Gag CEST of AF showed a better correlation with disc degeneration than T2 relaxivity. | 14 | Efficacy and safety of Xinfeng capsule in the treatment of osteoarthritis:a multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, controlled trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Xinfeng capsule(XFC) in patients with osteoarthritis(OA).METHODS: This was a multicenter, double-blinded,randomized, controlled, clinical trial. Patients with OA were assigned to the XFC group [treated with XFC and a glucosamine(GS) placebo, n = 129] or the GS group(treated with GS and an XFC placebo,n = 126). Both groups were treated for 4 weeks. The primary endpoint was the difference between the two groups in the Western Ontario and Mc Master Universities OA(WOMAC) index total score at 4 th week. The secondary endpoints were the visual analogue scale for pain, Lequesne index, function influence index rating, quality of life as assessed by the Short Form-36, erythrocyte sedimentation rate,and C-reactive protein concentration at baseline and at second week and 4 th week. Bone mineral density were checked by X ray absorptiometry at baseline and 4 th week.RESULTS: After 4 weeks of treatment, all patients in both groups showed similar significant improvements compared with baseline. There were no significant differences between groups regarding pain relief, bilateral femoral bone mineral density, and laboratory indices such as erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein concentration.Both groups had a significantly lower function influence index rating score and curative effect for each sign/symptom in week 4 than in week 0, and these changes did not significantly differ between groups. XFC was superior to GS in improving the WOMAC index total score, WOMAC scores for function and stiffness, integrated symptoms, physiological function, energy, emotional function, mental health, and health changes. Fourteen adverse reactions were reported, and the incidence of adverse reactions did not significantly differ between groups. The most common adverse reactions were hepatic impairment, kidney functional damage,gastrectasia, and facial skin allergy. The types of adverse reactions did not differ between groups.CONCLUSION: XFC is effective and safe in the treatment of OA. | 15 | Consensus on the digestive endoscopic tunnel technique显示文摘With the digestive endoscopic tunnel technique(DETT), many diseases that previously would have been treated by surgery are now endoscopically curable by establishing a submucosal tunnel between the mucosa and muscularis propria(MP). Through the tunnel, endoscopic diagnosis or treatment is performed for lesions in the mucosa, in the MP, and even outside the gastrointestinal(GI) tract.At present, the tunnel technique application range covers the following:(1)Treatment of lesions originating from the mucosal layer, e.g., endoscopic submucosal tunnel dissection for oesophageal large or circular early-stage cancer or precancerosis;(2) treatment of lesions from the MP layer, per-oral endoscopic myotomy, submucosal tunnelling endoscopic resection, etc.; and(3) diagnosis and treatment of lesions outside the GI tract, such as resection of lymph nodes and benign tumour excision in the mediastinum or abdominal cavity. With the increasing number of DETTs performed worldwide, endoscopic tunnel therapeutics, which is based on DETT, has been gradually developed and optimized. However, there is not yet an expert consensus on DETT to regulate its indications, contraindications, surgical procedure, and postoperative treatment.The International DETT Alliance signed up this consensus to standardize the procedures of DETT. | 16 | Binary titanium alloys as dental implant materials—a review显示文摘Titanium(Ti)has been used for long in dentistry and medicine for implant purpose.During the years,not only the commercially pure Ti but also some alloys such as binary and tertiary Ti alloys were used.The aim of this review is to describe and compare the current literature on binary Ti alloys,including Ti-Zr,Ti-In,Ti-Ag,Ti-Cu,Ti-Au,Ti-Pd,Ti-Nb,Ti-Mn,Ti-Mo,Ti-Cr,Ti-Co,Ti-Sn,Ti-Ge and Ti-Ga,in particular to mechanical,chemical and biological parameters related to implant application.Literature was searched using the PubMed and Web of Science databases,as well as google without limiting the year,but with principle key terms such as‘Ti alloy’,‘binary Ti’,‘Ti-X’(with X is the alloy element),‘dental implant’and‘medical implant’.Only laboratory studies that intentionally for implant or biomedical applications were included.According to available literatures,we might conclude that most of the binary Ti alloys with alloying<20%elements of Zr,In,Ag,Cu,Au,Pd,Nb,Mn,Cr,Mo,Sn and Co have high potential as implant materials,due to good mechanical performance without compromising the biocompatibility and biological behaviour compare to cp-Ti. | Xiaotian Liu Shuyang Chen James K.H.Tsoi Jukka Pekka Matinlinna | 2017 | Regenerative Biomaterials2017,4,5: | 5 |

| 19 | Effects of protein and lignin on cellulose and xylan anaylses of lignocellulosic biomass显示文摘Interactions of lignocellulosic components during fiber analysis were investigated using the highly adopted compositional analysis procedure from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory(NREL),USA.Synthetic feedstock samples were used to study the effects of lignin/protein,cellulose/protein,and xylan/protein interaction on carbohydrate analysis.Disregarding structural influence in the synthetic samples,lignin and protein components were the most significant(P<0.05)factors on cellulose analysis.Measured xylan was consistent and unaffected by content variation throughout the synthetic analysis.Validation of the observed relationships from synthetic feedstocks was fulfilled using real lignocellulosic feedstocks:corn stover,poplar,and alfalfa,in which similar results have been obtained,excluding cellulose analysis of poplar under higher protein content and xylan analysis of alfalfa under higher protein content.The results elucidated that according to their protein and lignin contents of different lignocellulosic materials,accuracy of the NREL method on cellulose and xylan analyses could be improved by applying a stronger extraction step to replace water/ethanol extraction. | James MacLellan Rui Chen Zhengbo Yue Robert Kraemer Yan Liu Wei Liao | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2017,16,6: | 4 |
