| 5 | Essential oil content and composition of Indian sandalwood (Santalum album) in Sri Lanka显示文摘Santalum album (Indian Sandalwood) is found in the mountainous regions of the intermediate zone of Sri Lanka. Few studies have been conducted on sandalwood ecology in this region, and ours is the first recorded study of essential oil content and chemical composition of heartwood. We harvested two trees with State permission and took crosssections for analysis. We demonstrated a difference in the heartwood formation and oil yield of the trees. The composition of the oil was found to be consistent between trees and along the trunk of the tree. Main aromatic compounds were santalols and other compounds are recorded in lesser quantities. Results of this study comply with the other published work on sandalwood elsewhere. | 6 | Chlorophyll, anthocyanin, and gas exchange changes assessed by spectroradiometry in Fragaria chiloensis under salt stress显示文摘Chlorophyll and anthocyanin contents provide a valuable indicator of the status of a plant's physiology, but to be more widely utilized it needs to be assessed easily and non‐destructively. This is particularly evident in terms of assessing and exploiting germplasm for plant‐breeding programs. We report, for the first time, experiments with Fragaria chiloensis(L.)Duch. and the estimation of the effects of response to salinity stress(0, 30, and 60 mmol NaCl/L) in terms of these pigments content and gas exchange. It is shown that both pigments(which interestingly, themselves show a high correlation) give a good indication of stress response. Both pigments can be accurately predicted using spectral reflectance indices(SRI);however, the accuracy of the predictions was slightly improved using multilinear regression analysis models and genetic algorithm analysis. Specifically for chlorophyll content, unlike other species, the use of published SRI gave better indications ofstress response than Normalized Difference Vegetation Index.The effect of salt on gas exchange is only evident at the highest concentration and some SRI gave better prediction performance than the known Photochemical Reflectance Index. This information will therefore be useful for identifying tolerant genotypes to salt stress for incorporation in breeding programs. | Miguel Garriga Jorge B. | 8 | EFFECT OF REVERT RECYCLE TIMES ON MICROSTRUCTURE AND FATIGUE PROPERTIES IN COBALT-BASE SUPERALLOY K640S显示文摘Effect of revert cycles on microstructure and fatigue properties of cast cobalt base superalloy K640S has been investigated. The results show that: at 70 times of cool heat cycles, there were microcracks found in seven times revert and ten times revert. With the increasing of thermal fatigue cycles, the crack of revert grows a little faster than virgin. When the cycle time reaches 200, the crack length for both virgin and reverts have been as long as 2mm. The low cycle fatigue life has no remarkable change, with the increase of revert cycles at 815℃, 360MPa ,0 5Hz. | 9 | Refining constitutive relation by integration of finite element simulations and Gleeble experiments显示文摘Thermo-mechanical coupled finite element calculations were carried out to simulate the Gleeble compression of the samples of a titanium alloy(Ti60), and the results are analyzed and compared with the actual compression tests conducted on a Gleeble 3800 thermo-mechanical simulator. The changes in temperature, stress and strain distribution in the samples and the source of error on the constitutive relations from Gleeble hot compression test were analyzed in detail. Both simulations and experiments showed that the temperature distribution in the specimen is not uniform during hot compression, resulting in significant deformation inhomogeneity and non-ignorable error in the flow stress strain relation,invalidating the uniform strain assumption commonly assumed when extracting the constitutive relation from Gleeble tests. | 10 | Variation among poplar clones for growth and crown traits under field conditions at two sites of North-western India显示文摘We evaluated the growth and crown traits of 36 poplar clones at two distinct agro-climatic regions of Punjab (Ludhiana and Bathinda) in northwestern India, following randomized block design with three replications and plot size of four trees. Significant differences among clones (p<0.001) were observed for diameter at breast height (DBH), tree height, volume, crown width and number of branches under both the site conditions. Clones 'G-3', '25-N' and '41-N' at Ludhiana and 'G-3', 'RD-01' and 'S 7 C 8 ' at Bathinda were found to be superior for volume production. All growth and crown traits registered significantly higher values at Ludhiana in comparison to those at Bathinda. Clone × site interaction was also significant (p<0.001). For volume, clones 'L-62/84', '113520', '25-N' and 'S 4 C 2 ' witnessed huge fluctuations in ranking between sites. The correlations between growth traits were positive and highly significant (p<0.001) at both sites. The clonal mean heritability was moderate for DBH and volume both at Ludhiana (0.61 0.66) and Bathinda (0.61 0.62). The ferroelectric remnant polarization P. of SBT had a severe decrease in the containing H2 atmosphere at 400℃. SEM results showed that Bi could be reduced from SBT thin films for the effect of H2. The reduction role increased with a rise of annealing temperature. SBT thin films lost their ferroelectricity when the annealing temperature was above 450℃. It implied that the degradation of P. value or the disappearance of ferroelectricity in SBT thin films had the relationship with the reductive amounts of Bi in SBT. | 14 | Seasonal Inhomogeneity of Soot Particles over the Central Indo-Gangetic Plains,India:Influence of Meteorology显示文摘Black carbon(BC) particles play a unique and important role in earth's climate system.BC was measured(in-situ) in the central part of the Indo-Gangetic Plains(IGP) at Varanasi,which is a highly populated and polluted region due to its topography and extensive emission sources.The annual mean BC mass concentration was 8.92 ± 7.0 μg m^(-3),with 34%of samples exceeding the average value.Seasonally,BC was highest during the post-monsoon and winter periods(approximately 18 μg m^(-3)) and lower in the premonsoon/monsoon seasons(approximately 6 μg m^(-3)).The highest frequency(approximately 46%) observed for BC mass was in the interval from 5 to 10 μg m^(-3).However,during the post-monsoon season,the most common values(approximately 23%) were between 20 and 25 μg m^(-3).The nighttime concentrations of BC were approximately twice as much as the daytime values because of lower boundary layer heights at nighttime.The Angstrom exponent was significantly positively correlated(0.55) with ground-level BC concentrations,indicating the impact of BC on the columnar aerosol properties.The estimated mean absorption Angstrom exponent was 1.02 ± 0.08 μg m^(-3),indicating that the major source of BC was from fossil fuel combustion.Significant negative correlations between BC mass and meteorological parameters indicate a pronounced effect of atmospheric dynamics on the BC mass in this region.The highest mean BC mass concentration(18.1 ± 6.9 μg m^(-3)) as a function of wind speed was under calm wind conditions(38%of the time). | SINGH B.P.
