In this paper, a broad overview of the available technologies for arsenic removal has been presented on the basis of literature survey. The main treatment methods included coagulation-sedimentation, adsorption separation and ion exchange, membrane technique, which have both advantages and disadvantages. It concluded that the selection of treatment process should be site specific and prevailing conditions and no process can serve the purpose under diverse conditions as each technology has its own limitations. | 3 | Incorporation of TOPMODEL into land surface model SSiB and numerically testing the effects of the corporation at basin scale显示文摘In order to examine and analyze the effects of integration of land surface models with TOPMODEL and different approaches for the integration on the model simulation of water and energy balances,the coupled models have been developed,which incorporate TOPMODEL into the Simplified Biosphere Model(SSiB) with different approaches(one divides a basin into a number of zones according to the distribution of topographic index,and the other only divides the basin into saturated and unsaturated zones).The coupled models are able to(but SSiB is not able to) take into account the impacts of topography variation and vertical heterogeneity of soil saturated hydraulic conductivity on horizontal distribution of soil moisture and in turn on water and energy balances within the basin(or a grid cell).By using the coupled models and SSiB model itself,the daily hydrological components such as runoffs are simulated and final results are analyzed carefully.Simulated daily results of hydrological components produced by both SSiB and coupled models show that(i) There is significant difference between results of soil wetness,its vertical distribution and seasonal variation,water and energy balance,and daily runoff in the basin predicted by SSiB and by the coupled models.The land surface model currently used such as SSiB is likely to misrepresent real feature of water and energy balances in the basin.(ii) Compared with the results for the basin predicted by SSiB,the coupled models predict more strong vertical and seasonal changes in soil wetness,higher evaporation and lower runoff,and improve the base flow simulation obviously.(iii) Comparing the results for the basin predicted by two coupled models with different integration approach and SSiB one by one,the results of daily runoffs and soil wetness predicted by the two coupled models are quite similar.It means,for the coupled models,the approach by dividing a region being considered into more subzones may have limited effects on improving runoff simulation results.The scheme only to divide the region into saturated and unsaturated zones may be a convenient and effective scheme.But then,if the results from the two coupled models for the basin are carefully compared,the simulated results by the coupled model with dividing the basin into more subzones will show higher evaporation and surface runoff but lower subsurface flow,lower total runoff,and lower ground water level averaged for five years. | DENG HuiPing SUN ShuFen | 2012 | Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,10: | 5 |
| 4 | Application of waste frying oils in the biosynthesis of biodemulsifier by a demulsifying strain Alcaligenes sp.S-XJ-1显示文摘Exploration of biodemulsifiers has become a new research aspect.Using waste frying oils(WFOs) as carbon source to synthesize biodemulsifiers has a potential prospect to decrease production cost and to improve the application of biodemulsifiers in the oilfield.In this study,a demulsifying strain,Alcaligenes sp.S-XJ-1,was investigated to synthesize a biodemulsifier using waste frying oils as carbon source.It was found that the increase of initial pH of culture medium could increase the biodemulsifier yield but decrease the demulsification ratio compared to that using paraffin as carbon source.In addition,a biodemulsifier produced by waste frying oils and paraffin as mixed carbon source had a lower demulsification capability compared with that produced by paraffin or waste frying oil as sole carbon source.Fed-batch fermentation of biodemulsifier using waste frying oils as supplementary carbon source was found to be a suitable method.Mechanism of waste frying oils utilization was studied by using tripalmitin,olein and tristearin as sole carbon sources to synthesize biodemulsifier.The results showed saturated long-chain fatty acid was diffcult for S-XJ-1 to utilize but could effectively enhance the demulsification ability of the produced biodemulsifier.Moreover,FT-IR result showed that the demulsification capability of biodemulsifiers was associated with the content of C=O group and nitrogen element. | Jia Liu Kaiming Peng Xiangfeng Huang Lijun Lu Hang Cheng Dianhai Yang Qi Zhou Huiping Deng | 2011 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,6: | 4 |
| 5 | Impact of total organic carbon and chlorine to ammonia ratio on nitrification in a bench-scale drinking water distribution system显示文摘Nitrification occurs in chloraminated drinking water systems and is affected by water quality parameters.The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of total organic carbon and chlorine to ammonia ratio on nitrification potential in a simulated drinking water distribution system as during chloramination.The occurrence of nitrification and activity of nitrifying bacteria was primarily monitored using four rotating annular bioreactors(RAB)with different chlorine to ammonia ratios and total organic carbon(TOC)levels.The results indicated that nitrification occurred despite at a low influent concentration of ammonia,and a high concentration of nitrite nitrogen was detected in the effluent.The study illustrated that reactors 1(R1)and 3(R3),with higher TOC levels,produced more nitrite nitrogen,which was consistent with the ammonia-oxidizing bacteria(AOB)counts,and was linked to a relatively more rapid decay of chloramines in comparison to their counterparts(R2 and R4).The AOB and HPC counts were correlated during the biofilm formation with the establishment of nitrification.Biofilm AOB abundance was also higher in the high TOC reactors compared with the low TOC reactors.The chlorine to ammonia ratio did not have a significant impact on the occurrence of nitrification.Bulk water with a high TOC level supported the occurrence of nitrification,and AOB development occurred at all examined chlorine to ammonia dose ratios(3:1 or 5:1). | Yongji ZHANG Lingling ZHOU Guo ZENG Huiping DENG Guibai LI | 2010 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2010,4,4: | 3 |

| 11 | Efficient Semi‑Transparent Wide‑Bandgap Perovskite Solar Cells Enabled by Pure‑Chloride 2D‑Perovskite Passivation显示文摘Wide-bandgap(WBG)perovskite solar cells suffer from severe non-radiative recombination and exhibit relatively large opencircuit voltage(V_(OC))deficits,limiting their photovoltaic performance.Here,we address these issues by in-situ forming a well-defined 2D perovskite(PMA)_(2)PbCl_(4)(phenmethylammonium is referred to as PMA)passivation layer on top of the WBG active layer.The 2D layer with highly pure dimensionality and halide components is realized by intentionally tailoring the side-chain substituent at the aryl ring of the post-treatment reagent.First-principle calculation and single-crystal X-ray diffraction results reveal that weak intermolecular interactions between bulky PMA cations and relatively low cation-halide hydrogen bonding strength are crucial in forming the well-defined 2D phase.The(PMA)_(2)PbCl_(4)forms improved type-I energy level alignment with the WBG perovskite,reducing the electron recombination at the perovskite/hole-transport-layer interface.Applying this strategy in fabricating semi-transparent WBG perovskite solar cells(indium tin oxide as the back electrode),the V_(OC)deficits can be reduced to 0.49 V,comparable with the reported state-of-the-art WBG perovskite solar cells using metal electrodes.Consequently,we obtain hysteresis-free 18.60%-efficient WBG perovskite solar cells with a high V_(OC)of 1.23 V. | Liu Yang Yongbin Jin Zheng Fang Jinyan Zhang Ziang Nan Lingfang Zheng Huihu Zhuang Qinghua Zeng Kaikai Liu Bingru Deng Huiping Feng Yujie Luo Chengbo Tian Changcai Cui Liqiang Xie Xipeng Xu Zhanhua Wei | 2023 | Nano-Micro Letters2023,15,8: | 1 |

To date, very little is known about brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and Bcl-2 gene and protein changes following morphine addiction. The present study utilized immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization techniques, which revealed that there were increased BDNF levels, but decreased Bcl-2 levels in the prefrontal cortex, locus coeruleus, hippocampus, and the ventral tegmental area during morphine-dependence formation and abstinence. However, the levels of BDNF remained unchanged, and Bcl-2 expression was increased in the nucleus accumbens. | 15 | Effects of Dynamic Vegetation on Global Climate Simulation Using the NCEP GFS and SSiB4/TRIFFID显示文摘Two global experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of dynamic vegetation processes on numerical climate simulations from 1948 to 2008.The NCEP Global Forecast System(GFS)was coupled with a biophysical model,the Simplified Simple Biosphere Model(SSi B)version 2(GFS/SSi B2),and it was also coupled with a biophysical and dynamic vegetation model,SSi B version 4/Top-down Representation of Interactive Foliage and Flora Including Dynamics(TRIFFID)(GFS/SSi B4/TRIFFID).The effects of dynamic vegetation processes on the simulation of precipitation,near-surface temperature,and the surface energy budget were identified on monthly and annual scales by assessing the GFS/SSi B4/TRIFFID and GFS/SSi B2 results against the satellite-derived leaf area index(LAI)and albedo and the observed land surface temperature and precipitation.The results show that compared with the GFS/SSiB2 model,the temporal correlation coefficients between the globally averaged monthly simulated LAI and the Global Inventory Monitoring and Modeling System(GIMMS)/Global Land Surface Satellite(GLASS)LAI in the GFS/SSi B4/TRIFFID simulation increased from 0.31/0.29(SSiB2)to 0.47/0.46(SSiB4).The correlation coefficients between the simulated and observed monthly mean near-surface air temperature increased from 0.50(Africa),0.35(Southeast Asia),and 0.39(South America)to 0.56,0.41,and 0.44,respectively.The correlation coefficients between the simulated and observed monthly mean precipitation increased from 0.19(Africa),0.22(South Asia),and 0.22(East Asia)to 0.25,0.27,and 0.28,respectively.The greatest improvement occurred over arid and semiarid areas.The spatiotemporal variability and changes in vegetation and ground surface albedo modeled by the GFS with a dynamic vegetation model were more consistent with the observations.The dynamic vegetation processes contributed to the surface energy and water balance and in turn,improved the annual variations in the simulated regional temperature and precipitation.The dynamic vegetation processes had the greatest influence on the spatiotemporal changes in the latent heat flux.This study shows that dynamic vegetation processes in earth system models significantly improve simulations of the climate mean status. | Zhengqiu ZHANG Yongkang XUE Panmao ZHAI Huiping DENG | 2021 | Journal of Meteorological Research2021,35,6: | 1 |

| 19 | Stabilizing semi-transparent perovskite solar cells with a polymer composite hole transport layer显示文摘Semi-transparent perovskite solar cells(ST-PSCs)have broad applications in building integrated photovoltaics.However,the stability of ST-PSCs needs to be improved,especially in n-i-p ST-PSCs since the doped 2,2',7,7'-tetrakis(N,N-di-p-methoxyphenyl-amine)-9,9'-spirobifluorene(Spiro-OMeTAD)is unstable at elevated temperatures and high humidity.In this work,aπ-conjugated polymer poly[(2,6-(4,8-bis(5-(2-ethylhexyl)thiophene-2-yl)-benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene))-alt-(5,5-(1',3'-di-2-thienyl-5',7'-bis(2-ethylhexyl)benzo[1',2'-c:4',5'-c']dithiophene-4,8-dione)](PBDB-T)is selected to form a polymer composite hole transport layer(HTL)with Spiro-OMeTAD.The sulfur atom of the thiophene unit and the carbonyl group of the polymer interact with the undercoordinated Pb2+at the perovskite surface,which stabilizes the perovskite/HTL interface and passivates the interfacial defects.The incorporation of the polymer also increases the glass transition temperature and the moisture resistance of Spiro-OMeTAD.As a result,we obtain ST-PSCs with a champion efficiency of 13.71%and an average visible light transmittance of 36.04%.Therefore,a high light utilization efficiency of 4.94%can be obtained.Moreover,the encapsulated device can maintain 84%of the initial efficiency after 751 h under continuous one-sun illumination(at 30%relative humidity)at the open circuit and the unencapsulated device can maintain 80%of the initial efficiency after maximum power tracking for more than 1250 h under continuous one-sun illumination. | Yongbin Jin Huiping Feng Zheng Fang Liu Yang Kaikai Liu Bingru Deng Jingfu Chen Xueling Chen Yawen Zhong Jinxin Yang Chengbo Tian Liqiang Xie Zhanhua Wei | 2024 | Nano Research2024,17,3: | 0 |
| 20 | Simulation and comparative study of two types of Topographic Index model for a homogeneous mountain catchment显示文摘In order to expand the application range of the classic Topographic Index model(TOPMODEL) and develop a more appropriate submodel of hydrological processes for use in the land surface model, two types of TOPMODEL are investigated, one with saturated hydraulic conductivity change with depth obeying exponential law(classical e-TOPMODEL or e-TOPMODEL for short) and the other obeying general power law(general p-TOPMODEL or p-TOPMODEL for short). Using observation date in the Suomo River catchment located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the sensitivity study of the p-TOPMODEL was conducted and the simulated results from the model were examined and evaluated first, and then the results were compared with the results from the e-TOPMODEL to find the similarities and differences between the two types of models. The main conclusions obtained from the above studies are(1) topographic index and its distribution derived from the p-TOPPMODEL for the Suomo Basin are sensitive to changes of parameter n and m;(2) changes of n and m have impacts on the simulation results of various hydrological components(such as daily runoff, monthly averaged runoff, monthly averaged surface runoff and subsurface runoff), but have the weaker impacts on forty-year averaged total runoff; and(3) for the same value of m, the simulated results of e-TOPMODEL display higher surface runoff and lower subsurface runoff than the general p-TOPMODEL does but multi-year averaged total runoffs produced from the two types of TOPMODEL show insignificant difference. The differences between the two types of models indicate that it is necessary to pay close attention to correct selection from different hydrological models for use in land surface model development.
