| 1 | Cropland redistribution to marginal lands undermines environmental sustainability显示文摘Cropland redistribution to marginal land has been reported worldwide;however,the resulting impacts on environmental sustainability have not been investigated sufficiently.Here we investigated the environmental impacts of cropland redistribution in China.As a result of urbanization-induced loss of high-quality croplands in south China(~8.5 t ha^(-1)),croplands expanded to marginal lands in northeast(~4.5 t ha^(-1)) and northwest China(~2.9 t ha^(-1)) during 1990-2015 to pursue food security.However,the reclamation in these low-yield and ecologically vulnerable zones considerably undermined local environmental sustainability,for example increasing wind erosion(+3.47%),irrigation water consumption(+34.42%),fertilizer use(+20.02%) and decreasing natural habitats(-3.11%).Forecasts show that further reclamation in marginal lands per current policies would exacerbate environmental costs by 2050.The future cropland security risk will be remarkably intensified because of the conflict between food production and environmental sustainability.Our research suggests that globally emerging reclamation of marginal lands should be restricted and crop yield boost should be encouraged for both food security and environmental benefits. | Wenhui Kuang Jiyuan Liu Hanqin Tian Hao Shi Jinwei Dong Changqing Song Xiaoyong Li Guoming Du Yali Hou Dengsheng Lu Wenfeng Chi Tao Pan Shuwen Zhang Rafiq Hamdi Zherui Yin Huimin Yan Changzhen Yan Shixin Wu Rendong Li Jiuchun Yang Yinyin Dou Wenbin Wu Liqiao Liang Bao Xiang Shiqi Yang | 2022 | National Science Review2022,9,1: | 13 |

| 3 | Daily variation characteristics of CO2 emission fluxes and contributions of environmental factors in semiarid grassland of Inner Mongolia, China显示文摘Fixed field experimental studies are carried out on daily variations of the undis- turbed community and soil respiration fluxes in different phenological phases of 2001―2002 in semiarid Aneurolepidium chinense steppe of Inner Mongolia, China using static black chamber method. Corresponding statistical analysis of the contributions of the water-heat factors (air temperature, ground temperature, surface soil water content) and ecological factors (above- ground biomass, underground biomass, litter biomass) to daily variation law of the undisturbed community and soil respiration fluxes as well as differences in daily respiration are also con- ducted. The results indicate that undisturbed community and soil respiration have apparent daily variation laws, daily variation patterns of respiration fluxes during different phenological phases are basically the same, and the variations of environmental factors only exert effect on CO2 emission intensities, while the effect on daily variation pattern of grassland CO2 emission fluxes is relatively small. The daily total respiration of the undisturbed community in different phenological phases ranges from 1.34―10.13 g·m?2; soil daily total respiration ranges from 0.98―5.17 g·m?2; both daily variations of undisturbed community and soil respiration fluxes are significantly corre- lated (p < 0.05) or extremely significantly correlated (p < 0.01) with air temperatures and ground surface temperatures, but the correlativity with the soil temperature at 5 and 10 cm depths is relatively weak; multiple regression analysis indicates that about 80% of the difference in daily respiration of the undisturbed community among different phenological phases is induced by the variation of the aboveground biomass, while the variations of the remaining factors can jointly explain around 20% of the daily respiration variations of the whole grassland ecosystem; about 83% of the soil daily respiration variation of the different phenological phases is caused by 0―20 cm underground biomass. | 5 | Physiological and ultralstructural changes of Chlorella sp. induced by UV-B radiation显示文摘In order to investigate the mechanisms of enhanced UV-B radiation on algae, the effects of UV-B radiation on the physiological and ultrastructural changes of Chlorella sp. were examined. The results showed that UV-B radiation could inhibit the growth and photosynthesis of microalgae. UV-B radiation at lower doses increased the photosynthetic pigment (chlorophyll a (Chla) and carotenoid (Car)) contents, while at higher doses of UV-B radiation Chla and Car contents were decreased. The ultrastructure of Chlorella sp. without exposure to UV-B showed that the thylakoid lamellae were clear and regular, the stroma of its chloroplast was apparent and clear. The globules with photosynthetic pigments and the cristae of mitochondria were clearly seen. After exposure to UV-B radiation at dose of 2.88 kJ/m2, the thylakoid lamellae of Chlorella sp. were lost and dissolved, the globules which contained photosynthetic pigments in chloroplast were bleached; some mitochondria cristae were dissolved; slight plasmolysis was found in some Chlorella sp. cells. After exposure to 5.76 kJ/m2 UV-B radiation, the thylakoid was in disarray and disintegration, plasmolysis was found in most cells, and the cell wall was broken and began to fall out. Many blank areas were observed in cells, mitochondria were seriously deformed and most of the mitochondria cristae were dissolved. Also, globules containing photosynthetic pigments in chloroplast were bleached and some empty globules were found in chloroplast. (1) The ultrastructure of D. salina cell in the control experiment showed that the arrangement of thylakoid lamellae was regular, and there were many large starch grains among the thylakoid lamellae. A prominent well-developed pyrenoid was found in the middle of the chloroplast. Nucleus envelope and nucleolus were clearly ob- served. The Golgi apparatus accompanied by numerous vesicles with a compact arrangement of cisternae and the peripheral tips of the cisternae were swollen to a size comparable to that of some of the associated vesicles. (2) The ultrastructure of D. salina cell in en- riched CO2 showed that the arrangement of thylakoid was regular and the lamellae were vivid. Developed pyrenoids were found in the low-CO2-grown cells, but not in the high-CO2-grown cells. The mitochondria cristae were vivid. The arrangement of Golgi apparatus was compact. (3) The ultrastructure of D. salina cell in enhanced UV- B showed that the thylakoid was dissolved and the cells had a less developed pyrenoid or no detectable pyrenoid. Part of the nucleus envelope was dissolved. The number of mitochondria was in- creased and some mitochondria cristae were disintegrated. The starch grains were broken apart into many small starch grains. The Gol- gi apparatus with a loose arrangement of cisternae and the peripheral tips of the Golgi cisternae were not especially swollen, with sev- eral large associated vesicles. (4) The ultrastructure of D. salina cell in the enriched CO2/enhanced UV- B showed that part of the thy- lakoid and nucleus envelopes of some cells were dissolved. The pyrenoid was larger than that of the enhanced UV- B. There were many mitochondria between stroma and chloroplast membrane, but mitochondria cristae were partly dissolved. Many small starch grains were accumulated in cells. The starch sheath was broken into several discontinuous starch grains with different sizes. The ar- rangement of Golgi apparatus was loose. | 15 | Chromosome-scale genome assembly of Prunus pusilliflora provides novel insights into genome evolution, disease resistance, and dormancy release in Cerasus L.显示文摘Prunus pusilliflora is a wild cherry germplasm resource distributed mainly in Southwest China.Despite its ornamental and economic value,a high-quality assembled P.pusilliflora genome is unavailable,hindering our understanding of its genetic background,population diversity,and evolutionary processes.Here,we de novo assembled a chromosome-scale P.pusilliflora genome using Oxford Nanopore,Illumina,and chromosome conformation capture sequencing.The assembled genome size was 309.62 Mb,with 76 scaffolds anchored to eight pseudochromosomes.We predicted 33035 protein-coding genes,functionally annotated 98.27%of them,and identified repetitive sequences covering 49.08%of the genome.We found that P.pusilliflora is closely related to Prunus serrulata and Prunus yedoensis,having diverged from them∼41.8 million years ago.A comparative genomic analysis revealed that P.pusilliflora has 643 expanded and 1128 contracted gene families.Furthermore,we found that P.pusilliflora is more resistant to Colletotrichum viniferum,Phytophthora capsici,and Pseudomonas syringae pv.tomato(Pst)DC3000 infections than cultivated Prunus avium.P.pusilliflora also has considerably more nucleotide-binding site-type resistance gene analogs than P.avium,which explains its stronger disease resistance.The cytochrome P450 and WRKY families of 263 and 61 proteins were divided into 42 and 8 subfamilies respectively in P.pusilliflora.Furthermore,81 MADS-box genes were identified in P.pusilliflora,accompanying expansions of the SVP and AGL15 subfamilies and loss of the TM3 subfamily.Our assembly of a high-quality P.pusilliflora genome will be valuable for further research on cherries and molecular breeding. | Songtao Jiu Baozheng Chen Xiao Dong Zhengxin Lv Yuxuan Wang Chunjin Yin Yan Xu Sen Zhang Jijun Zhu Jiyuan Wang Xunju Liu Wanxia Sun Guoqian Yang Meng Li Shufeng Li Zhuo Zhang Ruie Liu Lei Wang Muhammad Aamir Manzoor Quero-García José Shiping Wang Yahui Lei Ling Yang Elisabeth Dirlewanger Yang Dong Caixi Zhang | 2023 | Horticulture Research2023,10,5: | 0 |
