| 1 | Postpartum pubic symphysis diastasis-conservative and surgical treatment methods, incidence of complications: Two case reports and a review of the literature显示文摘BACKGROUND Widening of the pubic joint of more than 10 mm is diagnostic and defined as pubic symphysis diastasis and is considered a complication of vaginal childbirth or pregnancy.As it is a rare pathology(ranging from 1 in 300 to 1 in 30000 pregnancies),no gold standard treatment has been defined.CASE SUMMARY This study examines two cases,a 27-year-old woman(gravida 1,para 1)and a 32-year-old woman(gravida 2,para 2),who presented to the clinic after uneventful vaginal deliveries.A normal pregnancy with no complications was observed in both patients.Severe pain in the pubic region occurred after labour and was accompanied by complicated locomotion.Pubic symphysis diastasis was confirmed radiologically and bed rest with lateral decubitus positioning was recommended.Oral non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs were administered to relieve pain exacerbations.The symptoms decreased after treatment.Posttreatment magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)in the first case showed a reduction in symphyseal separation with no signs of osteitis.Three years later the symptoms recurred;MRI examination showed no further symphyseal widening or signs of osteitis.A relapse of symphyseal separation was diagnosed and conservative treatment was re-administered resulting in successful recovery.In the second case,pain recurred when the patient conceived for the second time.This time no benefit following conservative treatment was observed.Persistent pain and complicated locomotion led to scoliotic deformation of the lumbar part of the spine and leg length discrepancy,thus surgical treatment was chosen and internal pubic synthesis was performed.CONCLUSION Overall,surgical treatment resulting from insufficient conservative treatment showed a high risk of postoperative complications following the treatment of postpartum pubic symphysis diastasis. | Kristina Norvilaite Monika Kezeviciute Diana Ramasauskaite Audrone Arlauskiene Daiva Bartkeviciene Valentinas Uvarovas | 2020 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2020,8,1: | 5 |

| 16 | Bio-refinery of plant drinks press cake permeate using ultrafiltration and lactobacillus fermentation into antimicrobials and its effect on the growth of wheatgrass in vivo显示文摘For sustainable plant drinks production,the biorefinery concept of obtained press cakes(PC)using ultrasonication,mechanical separation,and ultra-filtration was designed in Fraunhofer UMSICHT(Germany).In this study obtained permeates,as wastes after ultrafiltration of PC(soyabeans,almonds,coconut,oats,and rice)were analyzed and their bio-stimulatory effect on the growth of wheatgrass in vivo was investigated.Permeates with higher soluble protein content(soy,almonds,and coconut)resulted in a significant increase in germination parameters(germination percentage(GP),length of stem and root as well as biomass of stem and root increased on averge by 8.3%,15.8%,9.2%,2.22 times and 1.8 times,respectively)compared to the control treatment.Additionally,the fermentation using antimicrobial lactic acid bacteria(LAB)strains(Lactobacillus brevis LUHS173,Pediococcus acidilactici LUHS236 and Lactobacillus farraginis LUHS206)was applied for bio-treatment of permeates.The efficiency of fermentation process was evaluated on the changes of pH,TTA,LAB growth kinetics and lactic acid and its isomers production.Furthermore,the antifungal activity of selected fermented products against fungi(Fusarium graminearum F,F.graminearum,and F.culmorum)was determined.It was found that the highest antifungal activity(18.0 mm and 16.5 mm,respectively)was obtained by 48 h fermentation of permeates from grain press cake(oats and rice),containing the most reducing saccharides,and they significantly improved the germination of contaminated grains.Innovations in the sustainable production of plant-origin drinks enable to implementation of new,environmentally friendly technologies in food sector. | Karolina Trakselyte-Rupsiene Grazina Juodeikiene Gabriele Alzbergaite Daiva Zadeike Elena Bartkiene Fatih Ozogul Lukas Rueller Josef Robert Jo˜ao Miguel F.Rocha | 2022 | Food Bioscience2022,46,2: | 0 |
| 17 | Global Alliance against Chronic Respiratory Diseases demonstration project:aerosol pollution and its seasonal peculiarities in primary schools of Vilnius显示文摘Background:The growing public health concern caused by non-communicable diseases in urban surroundings cannot be solved by health care alone;therefore a multidisciplinary approach is mandatory.This study aimed to evaluate the airborne aerosol pollution level in primary schools as possible factor influencing origin and course of the diseases in children.Methods:Seasonal aerosol particle number concentration(PNC)and mass concentration(PMC)were studied in the randomly selected eleven primary schools in the Lithuanian capital,Vilnius,as model of a middle-size Eastern European city.Total PNC in the size range from 0.01 to>1.0μm in diameter was measured using a condensation particle counter.Using an optical particle sizer,PNC was measured and PMC estimated for particles from 0.3 to 10.0μm.A descriptive statistics was used to estimate the aerosol pollution levels.Results:During all seasons,local cafeterias in the absence of ventilation were the main sources of the elevated levels of indoor PMC and PNC(up to 97,500 particles/cm3).The other sources of airborne particulates were the children’s activity during the lesson breaks with PMC up to 586μg/m3.Soft furniture,carpets in the classrooms and corridors were responsible for PMC up to 200μg/m3.Outdoor aerosol pollution(up to 18,170 particles/cm3)was higher for schools in city center.Elevated air pollution in classrooms also resulted from intermittent sources,such as construction work during classes(200-1000μg/m3)and petrol-powered lawn trimmers(up to 66,400 particles/cm3).Conclusion:The results of our survey show that even in a relatively low polluted region of Eastern Europe there are big differences in aerosol pollution within middle-sized city.Additional efforts are needed to improve air quality in schools:more frequent wet cleaning,monitoring the operation of ventilation systems,a ban on construction works during school year,on a use of sandblasting mechanisms in the neighborhood of schools. | Nina Prokopciuk Ulrich Franck Vadimas Dudoitis Nikolaj Tarasiuk Izabele Juskiene Daiva Cepuraite Kestutis Staras Algirdas Valiulis Vidmantas Ulevicius Arunas Valiulis | 2020 | Chinese Medical Journal2020,,13: | 0 |
| 18 | Recent changes in breeding abundance and distribution of the Common Pochard(Aythya ferina)in its eastern range显示文摘Background:The Common Pochard(Aythya ferina)(hereafter Pochard),a widespread and common freshwater diving duck in the Palearctic,was reclassified in 2015 from Least Concern to Vulnerable IUCN status based on rapid declines throughout its range.Analysis of its status,distribution and the potential causes for the decline in Europe has been undertaken,but there has never been a review of its status in the major part of its breeding range across Russia to the Pacific coast.Methods:We reviewed the scientific literature and unpublished reports,and canvassed expert opinion throughout Russia to assess available knowledge about changes in the species distribution and abundance since the 1980s.Results:While accepting available information may not be representative throughout the entire eastern range of the species,the review found marked declines in Pochard breeding abundance in the last two decades throughout European Russia.Pochard have also declined throughout Siberia.Declines throughout the steppe region seemed related to local drought severity in recent years,necessitating further research to confirm this climate link at larger spatial scales.Declines in the forest and forest-steppe regions appeared related to the major abandonment of fish farms in western Russia that had formerly provided habitat for breeding Pochard.However,hyper-eutrophication of shallow eutrophic lakes,cessation of grazing and haymaking in floodplain systems necessary to maintain suitable nesting habitat and disappearance of colonies of the Black-headed Gull(Chroicocephalus ridibundus)in a number of wetlands were also implicated.Increasing invasive alien predator species(e.g.American Mink Neovison vison and Raccoon Dog Nyctereutes procyonoides)and increasing spring hunting were also thought to contribute to declines.Reports of expansion in numbers and range only came from small numbers occurring in the Russian Far East,including on the border with China and the long-established isolated population on Kamchatka Peninsula.Conclusions:Widespread declines throughout the eastern breeding range of the Pochard give continued cause for concern.Although we could address all the potential causal factors identified above by management interventions,we urgently need better information relating to key factors affecting site-specific Pochard breeding success and abundance,to be able to implement effective actions to restore the species to more favourable conservation status throughout its breeding range. | Alexander Mischenko Anthony David Fox SauliusŠvažas Olga Sukhanova Alexandre Czajkowski Sergey Kharitonov Yuri Lokhman Oleg Ostrovsky Daiva Vaitkuvienė | 2020 | Avian Research2020,11,3: | 0 |
