1Using iron fertilizer to control Cd accumulation in rice plants: A new promising technology显示文摘Effects of two kinds of iron fertilizer, FeSO4 and EDTA·Na2Fe were studied on cadmium accumulation in rice plants with two rice genotypes, Zhongzao 22 and Zhongjiazao 02, with soil culture systems. The results showed that application of iron fertilizers could hardly make adverse effects on plant growth and rice grain yield. Soil application of EDTA·Na2Fe significantly reduced the Cd accumulation in rice roots, shoots and rice grain. Cd concentration in white rice of both rice genotypes in the treatment of soil application of EDTA·Na2Fe was much lower than 0.2 mg/kg, the maximal Cd permission concentra- tion in cereal crop foods in State standard. However, soil application of FeSO4 or foliar application of FeSO4 or EDTA·Na2Fe resulted in the significant increase of Cd accumulation in rice plants including rice grain compared with the control. The results also showed iron fertilizers increased the concentra- tion of iron, copper and manganese element in rice grain and also affected zinc concentration in plants. 2Effect of various crop rotations on rice yield and nitrogen use efficiency in paddy–upland systems in southeastern China显示文摘To evaluate the effects of various rotation systems on rice grain yield and N use efficiency, a paddy–upland cropping experiment(2013–2016) was conducted in southeastern China. The experiment was designed using six different rice––winter crop rotations: rice–fallow(RF),rice–wheat(RW), rice–potato with rice straw mulch(RP), rice–green manure(Chinese milk vetch; RC–G), rice–oilseed rape(RO), and rice–green manure crop(oilseed rape with fresh straw incorporated into soil at flowering; RO–G) and three N rates, N0(0 kg N ha-1), N1(142.5 kg N ha-1), and N2(202.5 kg N ha-1). Average rice yields in the RF(5.93 t ha-1) rotation were significantly lower than those in the rotations with winter crops(7.20–7.48 t ha-1)under the N0 treatment, suggesting that incorporation of straw might be more effective for increasing soil N than winter fallow. The rice yield differences among the rotations varied by year with the N input. In general, the grain yields in the RP and RO–G rotations –were respectively 11.6–28.5% and 14.80–37.19% higher than those in the RF in plots with N applied. Increasing the N rate may have tended to minimize the average yield gap between the RF and the other rotations; the yield gaps were 18.55%, 4.14%, and 0.23% in N0, N1, and N2, respectively. However, the N recovery efficiency in the RF was significantly lower than that in other rotations, except for 2015 under both N1 and N2 rates, a finding that implies a large amount of chemical N loss. No significant differences in nitrogen agronomic efficiency(NAE) and physiological efficiency(NPE) were found between the rotations with legume(RC–G) and non–legume(RO and RW) winter crops, a result that may be due partly to straw incorporation. For this reason, we concluded that the return of straw could reduce differences in N use efficiency between rotations with and without legume crops. The degree of synchrony between the crop N demand and the N supply was evaluated by comparison of nitrogen balance degree(NBD) values. The NBD values in the RP and RW were significantly lower than those in the other rotations under both N1 and N2 rates. Thus,in view of the higher grain yield in the RP compared to the RW under the N1 rate, the RP rotation might be a promising practice with comparable grain yield and greater N use efficiency under reduced N input relative to the other rotations. The primary yield components of the RF and RP were identified as number of panicles m-2 and numbers of kernels panicle-1, respectively. 5Agronomic performance of drought-resistance rice cultivars grown under alternate wetting and drying irrigation management in southeast China显示文摘Compared to drought-susceptible rice cultivars(DSRs),drought-resistance rice cultivars(DRRs)could drastically reduce the amount of irrigation water input and simultaneously result in higher grain yield under water-saving irrigation conditions.However,the mechanisms underlying these properties are unclear.We investigated how improved agronomic traits contribute to higher yield and higher water use efficiency(WUE)in DRRs than in DSRs under alternate wetting and drying(AWD).Two DRRs and two DSRs were field-grown in 2015 and 2016 using two different irrigation regimes:continuous flooding(CF)and AWD.Under CF,no statistical differences in grain yield and WUE were observed between DRRs and DSRs.Irrigation water under the AWD regime was 275–349 mm,an amount 49.8%–56.2% of that(552–620 mm)applied under the CF regime.Compared to CF,AWD significantly decreased grain yield in both DRRs and DSRs,with a more significant reduction in DSRs,and WUE was increased in DRRs,but not in DSRs,by 9.9%–23.0% under AWD.Under AWD,DRRs showed a 20.2%–26.2% increase in grain yield and an 18.6%–24.5% increase in WUE compared to DSRs.Compared to DSRs,DRRs showed less redundant vegetative growth,greater sink capacity,higher grain filling efficiency,larger root biomass,and deeper root distribution under AWD.We conclude that these improved agronomic traits exert positive influences on WUE in DRRs under AWD.Guang Chu Tingting Chen Song Chen Chunmei Xu Danying Wang Xiufu Zhang 2018The Crop Journal2018,6,5:8
6C-reactive protein and diabetic retinopathy in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus显示文摘AIM:To investigate the relationship between Creactive protein(CRP)and diabetic retinopathy(DR)in a cohort of Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).·METHODS:Community-based observational cohort study.There were 1131 participants recruited from November 2009 to September 2011 in Desheng community in urban Beijing.Patients diagnosed T2DM were recruited and underwent a standardized evaluation consisting of a questionnaire,ocular and anthropometric examinations and laboratory investigation.The presence and severity of DR were assessed by seven fields 30°color fundus photographs.Subjects were then classified into groups with no DR,any DR,or vision-threatening DR.CRP was analyzed from serum of study subjects.·RESULTS:A total of 1007 patients with T2DM were included for analysis,including 408(40.5%)men and 599(59.5%)women.The median CRP level was 1.5 mg/L for women and 1.1 mg/L for men(P=0.004,OR 0.37,95%CI0.18-0.74).After adjusting for possible covariates,higher levels of CRP were associated with lower prevalence of any DR(P=0.02,OR 0.55,95%CI 0.35-0.89),but not associated with vision-threatening DR(P=0.62,OR 0.78,95%CI 0.28-2.14).After stratification by sex,the inverseassociation between CRP and DR was found to be statistically significant in men(P=0.006,OR 0.35,95%CI0.16-0.73),but not in women(P=0.58,OR 0.88,95%CI0.29-1.16).·CONCLUSION:The data drawn from a Chinese population with T2DM suggest that increasing CRP levels may be inversely associated with development of DR.Xiu-Fen Yang Yu Deng Hong Gu Apiradee Lim Torkel Snellingen Xi-Pu Liu Ning-Li Wang Amitha Domalpally Ronald Danis Ning-Pu Liu 2016International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,1:6
7Rhizosphere Aeration Improves Nitrogen Transformation in Soil, and Nitrogen Absorption and Accumulation in Rice Plants显示文摘Two rice cultivars(Xiushui 09 and Chunyou 84)were used to evaluate the effects of various soil oxygen(O2)conditions on soil nitrogen(N)transformation,absorption and accumulation in rice plants.The treatments were continuous flooding(CF),continuous flooding and aeration(CFA),and alternate wetting and drying(AWD).The results showed that the AWD and CFA treatments improved soil N transformation,rice growth,and N absorption and accumulation.Soil NO3–content,nitrification activity and ammonia-oxidising bacteria abundance,leaf area,nitrate reductase activity,and N absorption and accumulation in rice all increased in both cultivars.However,soil microbial biomass carbon and pH did not significantly change during the whole period of rice growth.Correlation analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between the nitrification activity and ammonia-oxidising bacteria abundance,and both of them significantly increased as the total N accumulation in rice increased.Our results indicated that improved soil O2 conditions led to changing soil N cycling and contributed to increases in N absorption and accumulation by rice in paddy fields.XU Chunmei CHEN Liping CHEN Song CHU Guang WANG Danying ZHANG Xiufu 2020Rice science2020,27,2:6
8Soil Nitrogen Distribution and Plant Nitrogen Utilization in Direct-Seeded Rice in Response to Deep Placement of Basal Fertilizer-Nitrogen显示文摘Deep placement of controlled-release fertilizer increases nitrogen (N) use efficiency in rice planting but is expensive. Few studies on direct-seeded rice have examined the effects of deep placement of conventional fertilizer. With prilled urea serving as N fertilizer, a two-year field experiment with two N rates (120 and 195 kg/hm2) and four basal N application treatments (B50, all fertilizer was broadcast with 50% as basal N;D50, D70 and D100 corresponded to 50%, 70% and 100% of N deeply placed as basal N, respectively) were conducted in direct-seeded rice in 2013 and 2014. Soil N distribution and plant N uptake were analyzed. The results showed that deep placement of basal N significantly increased total N concentrations in soil. Significantly greater soil N concentrations were observed in D100 compared with B50 at 0, 6 and 12 cm (lateral distance) from the fertilizer application point both at mid-tillering and heading stages. D100 presented the highest values of dry matter and N accumulation from seeding to mid-tillering stages, but it presented the lowest values from heading to maturity stages and the lowest grain yield for no sufficient N supply at the reproductive stage. The grain yield of D50 was the highest, however, no significant difference was observed in grain yield, N agronomic efficiency or N recovery efficiency between D70 and D50, or between D70 and B50, while D70 was more labor saving than D50 for only one topdressing was applied in D70 compared with twice in other treatments. The above results indicated that 70% of fertilizer-N deeply placed as a basal fertilizer and 30% of fertilizer-N topdressed as a panicle fertilizer constituted an ideal approach for direct-seeded rice. 9Effects of increasing panicle-stage N on yield and N use efficiency of indica rice and its relationship with soil fertility显示文摘Because of the higher nitrogen(N)recovery efficiency(NRE)of panicle-stage fertilization compared with basal and tillering fertilization,increasing the proportion of N topdressing at the booting stage(panicleN)is recommended and commonly practiced in parts of China.To investigate the effects of increasing panicle-N on grain yield and N use efficiency(NUE)and the relationships of the increase and the rice cultivar and soil fertility status,we increased the percentage of panicle-N from 20%to 40%by correspondingly reducing the N amount applied only at the tillering stage in both high-and low-fertility blue clayey paddy fields in 2018 and 2019.Four indica cultivars with diverse panicle types were used,and their grain yield,dry matter accumulation,and NUE were compared.In high-fertility soil,increasing topdressing panicle-N from 20%to 40%reduced tillering ability and reduced the effective panicle numbers of the multi-and medium-panicle cultivars Huanghuazhan(HHZ),C Liangyouhuazhan(CHZ),and Tianyouhuazhan(THZ).These cultivars gave the greatest yield when 30%of N was supplied as panicle fertilizer,whereas the yield,NRE,N agronomic efficiency(NAE),and nitrogen physiological efficiency(NPE)of the heavy-panicle inbred cultivar Yangdao 6(YD6)continued to increase,resulting in improved dry matter accumulation and grain filling in the late growth stage.The yield,NAE,NRE,and NPE of YD6 peaked when the panicle-N constituted 40%.While in low-fertility soil,the multipanicle cultivar HHZ showed the greatest yield when 30%of fertilizer-N was applied once at the panicle initiation(PI)stage,while the medium-panicle cultivar CHZ showed the greatest yield when the panicle-N percentage was 40%.Our results suggest that the percentage of panicle-N fertilizer should not exceed 30%for multipanicle cultivars,while can be appropriately increased to 40%for heavy-panicle indica cultivars.The effect of increasing topdressing panicle-N on the yield of medium-panicle cultivars was related to soil fertility.The optimum panicle-N percentage was 30%in the high-fertility soil and 40%in the low-fertility soil.Chang Ye Hengyu Ma Xiu Huang Chunmei Xu Song Chen Guang Chu Xiufu Zhang Danying Wang 2022The Crop Journal2022,10,6:3
10Synergistic osteogenic and angiogenic effects of KP and QK peptides incorporated with an injectable and self-healing hydrogel for efficient bone regeneration显示文摘Irregular defects generated by trauma or surgery in orthopaedics practice were usually difficult to be fitted by the preformed traditional bone graft substitute. Therefore, the injectable hydrogels have attracted an increasing interest for bone repair because of their fittability and mini-invasivity. However, the uncontrollable spreading or mechanical failures during its manipulation remain a problem to be solved. Moreover, in order to achieve vascularized bone regeneration, alternatives of osteogenic and angiogenic growth factors should be adopted to avoid the problem of immunogenicity and high cost. In this study, a novel injectable self-healing hydrogel system (GMO hydrogel) loaded with KP and QK peptides had been developed for enhancing vascularized regeneration of small irregular bone defect. The dynamic imine bonds between gelatin methacryloyl and oxidized dextran provided the GMO hydrogel with self-healing and shear-thinning abilities, which led to an excellent injectability and fittability. By photopolymerization of the enclosed GelMA, GMO hydrogel was further strengthened and thus more suitable for bone regeneration. Besides, the osteogenic peptide KP and angiogenic peptide QK were tethered to GMO hydrogel by Schiff base reaction, leading to desired releasing profiles. In vitro, this composite hydrogel could significantly improve the osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs and angiogenesis ability of HUVECs. In vivo, KP and QK in the GMO hydrogel demonstrated a significant synergistic effect in promoting new bone formation in rat calvaria. 12Proteome and transcriptome profile analysis reveals regulatory and stress-responsive networks in the russet fruit skin of sand pear显示文摘The epidermal tissues of the cuticular membrane(CM)and periderm membrane(PM)confer first-line protection from environmental stresses in terrestrial plants.Although PM protection is essentially ubiquitous in plants,the protective mechanism,the function of many transcription factors and enzymes,and the genetic control of metabolic signaling pathways are poorly understood.Different microphenotypes and cellular components in russet(PM-covered)and green(CM-covered)fruit skins of pear were revealed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy.The two types of fruit skins showed distinct phytohormone accumulation,and different transcriptomic and proteomic profiles.The enriched pathways were detected by differentially expressed genes and proteins from the two omics analyses.A detailed analysis of the suberin biosynthesis pathways identified the regulatory signaling network,highlighting the general mechanisms required for periderm formation in russet fruit skin.The regulation of aquaporins at the protein level should play an important role in the specialized functions of russet fruit skin and PM-covered plant tissues.Yuezhi Wang Meisong Dai Danying Cai Zebin Shi 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:1
