| 1 | Implications for rock instability precursors and principal stress direction from rock acoustic experiments显示文摘The characteristics of rock instability precursors and the principal stress direction are very crucial for the prevention of geological disasters.This study investigated the qualitative relationship between rock instability precursors and principal stress direction through wave velocity in rock acoustic emission(AE)experiments.Results show that the wave velocity variation exhibits obvious anisotropic characteristics in 0%–20%and 60%–90%of peak strength due to the differences of stress-induced microcrack types.The amplitude of wave velocity variation is related to the azimuth and position of wave propagation path,which indicates that the principal stress direction can be identified by the anisotropic characteristics of wave velocity variations.Furthermore,the experiments also demonstrate that the AE event rate and wave velocity show quiet and stable variations in the elastic stage of rock samples,while they present a trend of active and unstable variations in the plastic stage.It implies that both the AE event rate and wave velocity are effective monitoring parameters for rock instability.The anisotropic characteristics of the wave velocity variation and AE event rate are beneficial complements for identifying the rock instability precursors and determining the principal stress direction,which provides a new analysis method for stability monitoring in practical rock engineering. | Longjun Dong Yongchao Chen Daoyuan Sun Yihan Zhang | 2021 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2021,31,5: | 10 |
| 2 | Geographical genetic diversity and divergence of common wild rice (O. rufipogon Griff.) in China显示文摘Using 36 SSR markers and 889 accessions of common wild rice in China, the genetic diversity and the divergence among different geographical populations are investigated. Guangdong Province has the largest number of alleles, which account for 84% of the total alleles detected in the study, followed by Guangxi Province. The Nei's gene diversity indices, from high to low, are in the sequence of Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Hunan, Jiangxi, and Yunnan provinces. Two genetic diversity centers of Chinese common wild rice are detected on the basis of geographic analysis, i.e., the region covering Boluo, Zijin, Lufeng, Haifeng, Huidong and Huiyang counties of Guangdong Province and the region covering Yongning, Longan, Laibin and Guigang counties of Guangxi Province. The common wild rice in Yunnan, Hunan, Jiangxi, and Fujian provinces are diverged into respectively independent populations with relatively large genetic distances, whereas, those in Hainan, Guangdong and Guangxi provinces have relatively low genetic divergence. | 3 | Quantitative classification and analysis on plant communities in the middle reaches of the Tarim River显示文摘Plant communities were sampled in the lower reaches of the Tarim River, Xinjiang. The results showed that there are 23 species belonging to 21 genera in 11 families, most of which have low occurrence frequency in quadrats. The most common species is Tamarix ramosissima, which occurred in 17 sites accounting for 89.47% of the total 19 sites. Quantitative classification (TWINSPAN) and ordination (CCA) methods were used to study the distribution patterns of 23 plant species in 19 sites in this valley. TWINSPAN results showed that the plant communities in the middle reaches of the Tarim River could be divided into 3 groups and the sampling sites could be divided into 7 types in 3 groups. | 4 | Effects of temperature and light on seed germination of ephemeral plants in the Gurbantunggut Desert, China: implications for vegetation restoration显示文摘Seed germination is a key transitional stage in plant life cycle and is strongly regulated by temperature and light.Therefore, research on the effects of temperature and light on seed germination is extremely meaningful for vegetation restoration, especially in desert ecosystems.Seeds of 28 ephemeral plants collected from the Gurbantunggut Desert of China were incubated at different temperatures(5℃/1℃, 15℃/5℃, 20℃/5℃, 25℃/10℃ and 30℃/15℃) in 12-h light/12-h darkness or continuous darkness regimes, and the responses of seed germination to temperature and light and the germination speed were studied in 2016.Results showed that seed germination percentage of the 28 ephemeral plants significantly differed to temperature and light.We classified the studied plants as the following groups based on their responses to temperature: 1 low temperature responsed plants, 12 moderate temperature responsed plants, 7 high temperature responsed plants, 4 non-responsed plants and 5 plants of no germination.It should be noted that Corispermum lehmannianum Bunge is sensitive to both moderate and high temperatures.There were 4 groups of plant in response to light, i.e., 7 light responsed plants, 10 dark responsed plants, 6 light non-responsed plants and 5 plants of no germination.Based on seed germination speed of the 28 ephemeral plants, we divided them into 4 patterns of germination, i.e., very rapid, moderately rapid, moderate and slow.Combining variations of temperature, precipitation and sand dune types in the study area, we suggested that very rapid and moderately rapid germinated plants could be used to moving sand dunes in early spring during vegetation restoration, moderate germinated plants could be used to semi-fixed sand dunes in late autumn, and slow germinated plants could be used to sand plain in summer.Thus, seedling establishment and vegetation restoration would be improved by considering seed germination characteristics of these ephemeral plants in the Gurbantunggut Desert, China. | CHEN Yanfeng CAO Qiumei LI Dexin LIU Huiliang ZHANG Daoyuan | 2019 | Journal of Arid Land2019,11,6: | 4 |
| 5 | Desiccation tolerance in bryophytes: the rehydration proteomes of Bryum argenteum provide insights into the resuscitation mechanism显示文摘Bryum argenteum Hedw. is a desiccation tolerant bryophyte and belongs to one of the most important components of the biological soil crusts(BSCs) found in the deserts of Central Asia. Limited information is available on rehydration-responsive proteins in desiccation tolerant plants. As a complement to our previous research analyzing the rehydration transcriptome, we present a parallel quantitative proteomic effort to study rehydration-responsive proteins. Bryophyte gametophores were desiccated(Dry) and rehydrated for 2 h(R2) and 24 h(R24). Proteins from Dry, R2 and R24 gametophores were labeled by isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation(iTRAQ) to determine the relative abundance of rehydration-responsive proteins. A total of 5503 non-redundant protein sequences were identified and 4772(86.7%) protein sequences were annotated using Gene Ontology(GO) terms and Pfam classifications. Upon rehydration 239 proteins were elevated and 461 proteins were reduced as compared to the desiccated protein sample. Differentially up-regulated proteins were classified into a number of categories including reactive oxygen species scavenging enzymes, detoxifying enzymes, Late Embryogenesis Abundant(LEA) proteins, heat shock proteins, proteasome components and proteases, and photosynthesis and translation related proteins. | 7 | Implications for identification of principal stress directions from acoustic emission characteristics of granite under biaxial compression experiments显示文摘The rock fracture characteristics and principal stress directions are crucial for prevention of geological disasters.In this study,we carried out biaxial compression tests on cubic granite samples of 100 mm in side length with different intermediate principal stress gradients in combination with acoustic emission(AE)technique.Results show that the fracture characteristics of granite samples change from‘sudden and aggregated’to‘continuous and dispersed’with the increase of the intermediate principal stress.The effect of increasing intermediate principal stress on AE amplitude is not significant,but it increases the proportions of high-frequency AE signals and shear cracks,which in turn increases the possibility of unstable rock failure.The difference of stress in different directions causes the anisotropy of rock fracture and thus leads to the obvious anisotropic characteristics of wave velocity variations.The anisotropy of wave velocity variations with stress difference is probable to identify the principal stress directions.The AE characteristics and the anisotropy of wave velocity variations of granite under two-dimensional stress are not only beneficial complements for rock fracture characteristic and principal stress direction identification,but also can provide a new analysis method for stability monitoring in practical rock engineering. | Longjun Dong Yongchao Chen Daoyuan Sun Yihan Zhang Sijia Deng | 2023 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2023,15,4: | 1 |

| 9 | Denatured proteins show new vitality:Green synthesis of germanium oxide hollow microspheres with versatile functions by denaturing proteins around bubbles显示文摘The hollow structure has long attracted great attention because of its excellent properties.However,this special structure is usually synthesized through some complex approaches.Herein,we discovered that denatured bovine serum albumin(BSA)can trigger unusual biomineralization for the simple,green and shape-controllable synthesis of germanium oxide(GeOx)hollow microsphere(HMS).At high temperature(60℃),BSA was denatured,and a compact BSA layer was formed around the H2 bubbles.The denatured BSA layer was stable and suitable for anchoring and growing GeOx.By simply changing the BSA concentration and temperature,various morphologies of GeOx could be obtained.Due to the denatured protein skeletons and microenvironment-regulated collapse,GeOx HMS showed great potential for intelligently responsive pesticide delivery in the insect gut,showing superiority over traditional delivery systems,which early release pesticides in the mouth and stomach.Inspired by its large specific surface area,excellent biocompatibility,modifiable functional groups,and high electrocatalytic activity,GeOx HMS was also applied to versatile sensors for H_(2)O_(2) assays at physiological pH and rapid coronavirus COVID-19 detection.This work not only provides some evidence for understanding proteins in depth but also paves a new avenue for the biomineralization-inspired synthesis of hollow structures with versatile functions. | Yanfang Zhao Xin Liang Daoyuan Chen Xuhui Bian Wanjian Liu Lei Han | 2023 | Aggregate2023,4,1: | 0 |

| 14 | Development of a monitoring and warning system based on optical fiber sensing technology for masonry retaining walls and trees显示文摘Hong Kong has a long history of applying masonry retaining walls to provide horizontal platforms and stabilize man-made slopes.Due to the sub-tropical climate,some masonry retaining walls are colonized by trees.Extreme weather,such as typhoons and heavy rains,may cause rupture or root failure of those trees,thus resulting in instability of the retaining walls.A monitoring and warning system for the movement of masonry retaining walls and sway of trees has been designed with the application of fiber Bragg grating(FBG)sensing technology.The monitoring system is also equipped with a solar power system and 4G data transmission devices.The key functions of the proposed monitoring system include remote sensing and data access,early warning,and real-time data visualization.The setups and working principles of the monitoring systems and related transducers are introduced.The feasibility,accuracy,serviceability and reliability of this monitoring system have been checked by in-site calibration tests and four-month monitoring.Besides,a two-level interface has been developed for data visualization.The monitoring results show that the monitored masonry retaining wall had a reversible movement up to 2.5 mm during the monitoring period.Besides,it is found that the locations of the maximum strain on trees depend on the crown spread of trees. | Peichen Wu Daoyuan Tan Shaoqun Lin Wenbo Chen Jianhua Yin Numan Malik An Li | 2022 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2022,14,4: | 0 |
