| 1 | Role of the renin angiotensin system in diabetic nephropathy显示文摘Diabetic nephropathy has been the cause of lot of mor bidity and mortality in the diabetic population.The renin angiotensin system(RAS) is considered to be involved in most of the pathological processes that result in diabetic nephropathy.This system has var ious subsystems which contribute to the disease pat ho logy.One of these involves angiotensin Ⅱ(Ang Ⅱ) which shows in c reased activity during diabetic nephropathy.This causes hypertrophy of various renal cells and has a pres sor effect on arteriolar smooth muscle resulting in increas ed vascular pressure.Ang Ⅱ also induces inflamm ation,apoptosis,cell growth,migration and differentiation.Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 production responsible for renal f ibrosis is also regulated by RAS.Polymorphism of angiotensin converting enzym e(ACE) and Angiotensinogen has been shown to have effects on RAS.Available treatment modalities have proven effective in controlling the progression of nephropathy.Various drugs(based on antagonism of RAS) are currently in the market and others are still under trial.Amongst the approved drugs,ACE inhibitors and ang iot ensin receptor blockers(ARBs) are widely used in clinical practice.ARBs are shown to be superior to ACE inhibitors in terms of reducing proteinuria but the combined role of ARBs with ACE inhibitors in diabetic nephropathy is under debate. | Tanuj Chawla Deepika Sharma Archana Singh | 2010 | World Journal of Diabetes2010,1,5: | 34 |
| 2 | Evaluation of immunogenicity and reactogenicity of recombinant DNA hepatitis B vaccine produced in India显示文摘AIM: (1) To gain information on immune responses to an accelerated schedule of 0, 1, and 2 mo in paramedical staff and BDS students who are at an increased risk of getting hepatitis B infection and come under high risk groups. (2) To assess the efficacy and safety of EnivacHB in different age groups, using genetically modified yeast strain Pichia pastoris, a new recombinant hepatitis B vaccine developed and manufactured in India.METHODS: A prospective, comparative, and single blinded trial of rapid (0, 1, and 2 mo) hepatitis B immunization schedulewas reported. A total of three hundred and seven (212 females and 95 males) healthy volunteers divided into three age groups (18-29, 30-39,and 40-49) were enrolled after screening for markers of hepatitis B. All the volunteers received 20 mg of the vaccine intramuscularly at 0, 1, and 2 mo.RESULTS: Geometric mean titers were calculated pre and post vaccination. Before immunization the GMT was 0.0124 mIU/mL. One month after the administration of the third dose of recombinant vaccine 296/307 (96.5%)subjects achieved seroprotective levels of anti-HBs. The geometric mean anti-HBs titers achieved after one month of the third dose was 2 560.0 mIU/mL. The geometric mean anti-HBs titer of males was 2 029.0 mIU/mL, while that of the females was 2 759.0 mIU/mL. In the age group of 18-29 years, anti-HBs titer was 3 025.0 mIU/mL, while that in the age group of 30-39 years was 2096.0 mIU/mL. In third age group of 40-49 years, antiHBs titer was 1 592.0 mIU/mL. Hyper-responses (antiHBs≥100 mIU/mL) were shown in 88.0% (271/307) of subjects. Eleven (3.5%) subjects responded poorly to the vaccine in the age group of 40-49 years. | 10 | Prevalence of internet addiction among college students in the Indian setting:a systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘Background The internet is an integral part of everyone’s life.College going adolescents are highly vulnerable to the misuse of the internet.Aims To estimate the pooled prevalence of internet addiction(IA)among college students in India.Methods Literature databases(PubMed,Web of Science,Scopus,EMBASE,PsycINFO and Google Scholar)were searched for studies assessing IA using the Young Internet Addiction Test(Y-IAT)among adolescents from India,published in the English language up to December 2020.We included studies from 2010 to 2020 as this is the marked era of momentum in wireless internet connectivity in India.The methodological quality of each study was scored,and data were extracted from the published reports.Pooled prevalence was estimated using the fixed-effects model.Publication bias was evaluated using Egger’s test and visual inspection of the symmetry in funnel plots.Results Fifty studies conducted in 19 states of India estimated the prevalence of IA and the overall prevalence of IA as 19.9%(95%CI:19.3%to 20.5%)and 40.7%(95%CI:38.7%to 42.8%)based on the Y-IAT cut-off scores of 50 and 40,respectively.The estimated prevalence of severe IA was significantly higher in the Y-IAT cut-off points of 70 than 80(12.7%(95%CI:11.2%to 14.3%)vs 4.6%(95%CI:4.1%to 5.2%)).The sampling method and quality of included studies had a significant effect on the estimation of prevalence in which studies using non-probability sampling and low risk of bias(total quality score≥7)reported lower prevalence.The overall quality of evidence was rated as‘moderate’based on the Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development and Evaluation criteria.Conclusions Our nationally representative data suggest that about 20%to 40%of college students in India are at risk for IA.There is a need for further research in the reconsideration of Y-IAT cut-off points among Indian college students. | Jaison Joseph Abin Varghese Vijay VR Manju Dhandapani Sandeep Grover Suresh Sharma Deepika Khakha Sucheta Mann Biji P Varkey | 2021 | General Psychiatry2021,34,4: | 1 |
| 11 | Does dyslipidemia worsen the hearing level in diabetics?显示文摘Objective: To identify the effect of dyslipidemia on auditory function detected by Pure Tone Audiometry. To check if dyslipidemia worsens the hearing level in diabetics.Design: This was a comparative study where 120 subjects between the age group of 20 and 50 years underwent pure tone audiometry, lipid profile and blood sugars. Group 1 consisted of 30 subjects with type 2 diabetes and dyslipidemia; Group 2 had 30 subjects with isolated diabetes;Group 3 had 30 with isolated dyslipidemia and Group 4 included 30 normal subjects as control.Results: Significant hearing loss was seen only in the group with isolated diabetes(63%). The most common type of hearing loss was high frequency sensorineural hearing loss. When comparison was made between the combinations of different lipid profiles, no association was found to the level of hearing.Conclusions: Diabetics are more prone to high frequency hearing loss. | 18 | Surface-modified elastomeric nanofluidic devices for single nanoparticle trapping显示文摘Our work focuses on the development of simpler and effective production of nanofluidic devices for high-throughput charged single nanoparticle trapping in an aqueous environment.Single nanoparticle confinement using electrostatic trapping has been an effective approach to study the fundamental properties of charged molecules under a controlled aqueous environment.Conventionally,geometry-induced electrostatic trapping devices are fabricated using SiOx-based substrates and comprise nanochannels imbedded with nanoindentations such as nanopockets,nanoslits and nanogrids.These geometry-induced electrostatic trapping devices can only trap negatively charged particles,and therefore,to trap positively charged particles,modification of the device surface is required.However,the surface modification process of a nanofluidic device is cumbersome and time consuming.Therefore,here,we present a novel approach for the development of surface-modified geometry-induced electrostatic trapping devices that reduces the surface modification time from nearly 5 days to just a few hours.We utilized polydimethylsiloxane for the development of a surface-modified geometry-induced electrostatic trapping device.To demonstrate the device efficiency and success of the surface modification procedure,a comparison study between a PDMS-based geometry-induced electrostatic trapping device and the surface-modified polydimethylsiloxane-based device was performed.The device surface was modified with two layers of polyelectrolytes(1:poly(ethyleneimine)and 2:poly(styrenesulfonate)),which led to an overall negatively charged surface.Our experiments revealed the presence of a homogeneous surface charge density inside the fluidic devices and equivalent trapping strengths for the surface-modified and native polydimethylsiloxane-based geometry-induced electrostatic trapping devices.This work paves the way towards broader use of geometry-induced electrostatic trapping devices in the fields of biosensing,disease diagnosis,molecular analysis,fluid quality control and pathogen detection. | Deepika Sharma Roderick Y.H.Lim Thomas Pfohl Yasin Ekinci | 2021 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2021,7,3: | 0 |

| 20 | Spatio-temporal variation of trace elements distributed over surface water of Upper Ganga River Basin in Western Himalayan Region显示文摘The rivers draining from the Himalayan range distribute enormous amount of fresh water to the people living in downstream regions.Trace metals flowed with river water can lead to serious impact on ecological system and human health.Nevertheless,the documentation on trace elements of Himalayan rivers is inadequately documented.The current study deals with the spatial and temporal variability of the major and trace elements of Ganga river water in epirhithron,metarhithron and hyporhithron zone belonging to Himalayan segment.Water samples from nineteen monitoring locations were collected in pre-monsoon(May-June),monsoon(AugustSeptember)and post-monsoon(December)seasons and subjected to be assessed for 20 elements(Ag,Al,Ba,Cd,Ca,Cr,Cu,Fe,Ga,K,Mn,Mg,Na,Ni,Pb,Sr,Th,U,Zn,and Zr)using ICP-OES(Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometer).Different water pollution indexes such as HPI(Heavy Metal Pollution Index),MI(Metal Index)and PI(Pollution Index)were used to describe current water quality status at each monitoring station under particular classified ecological zone.The studied stations in hyporhithron zone had the value of Metal Index(MI>1),indicating threshold of warning.Further,the highest values of HPI in hyporhithron zone correspond to poor water quality status.Sites with poor water quality were also found to be contaminated as per the Pollution Index(PI),exhibiting high concentrations for element(Fe).However,the epirhithron and metarhithron zone in Himalayan segment showed excellent water quality mainly contributed from natural sources.Cluster Analysis(CA)and Principal Component Analysis(PCA)were applied to identify the main influential sources for Ganga river water pollution.The Kriging interpolation method was also applied to prepare spatial distribution map of computed indexes(HPI,MI,and PI).With the help of index of local Moran’s I(LMI),identified spatial clusters and spatial outliers revealed the elevated concentration of most elements in hyporhithron zone.The dataset presented in this study would be convenient for government officials in developing more effective management policies and necessary steps to check and monitor the Ganga river water quality.It was also suggested that further investigations in terms of trace elemental sources and their role in self-purification properties of Ganga water can be addressed in future. | Deepika DIMRI Ambika KUMAR DeepakKumar MISHRA Archana SHARMA | 2023 | Journal of Mountain Science2023,20,1: | 0 |
