1Rapid species identification of pathogenic bacteria from a minute quantity exploiting three-dimensional quantitative phase imaging and artificial neural network显示文摘The healthcare industry is in dire need of rapid microbial identification techniques for treating microbial infections.Microbial infections are a major healthcare issue worldwide,as these widespread diseases often develop into deadly symptoms.While studies have shown that an early appropriate antibiotic treatment significantly reduces the mortality of an infection,this effective treatment is difficult to practice.The main obstacle to early appropriate antibiotic treatments is the long turnaround time of the routine microbial identification,which includes time-consuming sample growth.Here,we propose a microscopy-based framework that identifies the pathogen from single to few cells.Our framework obtains and exploits the morphology of the limited sample by incorporating three-dimensional quantitative phase imaging and an artificial neural network.We demonstrate the identification of 19 bacterial species that cause bloodstream infections,achieving an accuracy of 82.5%from an individual bacterial cell or cluster.This performance,comparable to that of the gold standard mass spectroscopy under a sufficient amount of sample,underpins the effectiveness of our framework in clinical applications.Furthermore,our accuracy increases with multiple measurements,reaching 99.9%with seven different measurements of cells or clusters.We believe that our framework can serve as a beneficial advisory tool for clinicians during the initial treatment of infections.Geon Kim Daewoong Ahn Minhee Kang Jinho Park DongHun Ryu YoungJu Jo Jinyeop Song Jea Sung Ryu Gunho Choi Hyun Jung Chung Kyuseok Kim Doo Ryeon Chung In Young Yoo Hee Jae Huh Hyun-seok Min Nam Yong Lee YongKeun Park 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,7:2

4Comparison of excyclotorsion following graded inferior oblique recession for primary versus secondary inferior oblique overaction显示文摘AIM:To compare the changes in excyclotorsion after inferior oblique(IO)recession in patients with primary and secondary inferior oblique overaction(IOOA).METHODS:We retrospectively analyzed the data obtained from patients with IOOA who underwent graded IO recession.The patients were followed up for at least 3 mo after surgery.Fundus photographs were taken preand postoperatively,and the sum of the angles of torsion in both eyes was used to analyze changes in excyclotorsion.Patients were divided into two groups:those diagnosed with primary IOOA were enrolled in the 1’IOOA group,and those diagnosed with secondary IOOA caused by superior oblique palsy(SOP)were enrolled in the 2’IOOA group.Excyclotorsion before and after surgery were compared between the two groups.RESULTS:A total of 78 patients were enrolled in this study:34 eyes in the 1’IOOA group and 44 eyes in the 2’IOOA group.In the 78 patients,torsional angle significantly decreased from 15.31°±7.40°to 12.11°±6.53°after IO recession(P<0.001).Mean preoperative torsional angle was larger in the 2’IOOA group than in the 1’IOOA group(P=0.03).In both groups,excyclotorsion significantly decreased after IO recession(P=0.001 and P<0.001,respectively);however,there was no significant difference in the amounts of changes in excyclotorsion between the two groups.CONCLUSION:Excyclotorsion is significantly larger in secondary IOOA than in primary IOOA,and a significant decrease in the torsional angle occurs after IO recession in both types of IOOA.Donghun Lee Won Jae Kim Myung Mi Kim 2020International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2020,13,8:1

9Effects of Angelica sinensis on longitudinal bone growth rate in adolescent female rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of A.sinensis on longitudinal bone growth rate in adolescent female rats.METHODS A.sinensis was extracted with 30% EtOH for 3h at 90℃in a reflux apparatus.Female Sprague-Dawley rats(33d-old)were randomly divided into three groups:control(vehicle),recombinant human growth hormone(rhGH;20μg·kg-1·d-1),and A.sinensis(300mg·kg-1·d-1).A.sinensis extracts or vehicle was administered orally twice daily for 4d.Longitudinal bone growth rate in newly synthesized bone was observed using tetracycline labeling(20mg·kg-1,intraperitoneally).RESULTS A.sinensis significantly increased longitudinal bone growth rate in adolescent female rats at 300mg·kg-1(6.1%,357.34±32.67μm·d-1)compared to control group(336.80±14.47μm·d-1).CONCLUSION A.sinensis extract significantly increased longitudinal bone growth rate and growth plate height in adolescent female rats.These results suggest that A.sinensis could be helpful for increasing bone growth rate in children who have growth retardation.Hai-ling GUO Donghun LEE Young-Sik KIM Jung-bin SONG Hyun Soo KIM Hyun Jung LEE Sung Hyun LEE Juyeon PARK Hocheol KIM 2015中国药理学与毒理学杂志2015,29,S1:0
10Effect of Dioscorea batatas on longitudinal bone growth rate in adolescent female rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE The root of Dioscorea batatas,rich in steroidal saponins,alkaloids,tannins,phytosterols,and starch,is an herbal medicine of tonifying qi and nourishing stomach after invigorating spleen with a long history of safe use for treatment of chronic dysentery and weakness of the spleen and stomach in Korea.This study was aimed to investigate the effect of D.batatas on longitudinal bone growth rate in adolescent female rats.METHODS D.batatas was extracted with 30% EtOH for 3h at 90℃in a reflux apparatus.In two groups,we administered a twice daily dosage of D.batatas extract(at 30 and 300mg·kg-1,respectively)per os for 4d,and in a control group,we administered vehicle only under the same conditions.Recombinant human growth hormone(rhGH)was subcutaneously injected once daily.All rats were born at same day(33d-old).On day 3,tetracycline was injected intraperitoneally to form a fluorescent band on the growth plates.RESULTS The bone growth rate in groups administered D.batatas 300mg·kg-1 and rhGH was significantly increased to 343.8±20.7,and 359.6±30.2μm·d-1 respectively from control group,320.7±23.2μm·d-1.No difference was observed in the amount of food intake or mean body weight among all groups during the acclimation or administration period.CONCLUSION These results suggest that D.batatas extracts have the potential to induce height increase;however,further research,including clinical trials,is necessary.Hyun Soo KIM Donghun LEE Young-Sik KIM Jung-bin SONG Hyun Jung LEE Seunggyeong LEE Sung Hyun LEE Juyeon PARK Hocheol KIM 2015中国药理学与毒理学杂志2015,29,S1:0

12Inhibitory activity of Cinnamomum Cassia extract on hypersensitivity in mice显示文摘OBJECTIVE Cinnamomum cassia has been used in traditional medicine in East Asian countries to treatallergic disease.Previous studies have demonstrated that C.cassiainhibits the development of mite antigen-induced skin lesions in NC/Nga mice by suppressing the Thelper 2cell response.The objective of this study is to investigate whether C.cassia has an efficient inhibition on systemic anaphylaxis and contact hypersensitivity in mice.METHODS To induce systemic anaphylaxis,mice were injected intraperitoneally with compound 48/80.Mortality was monitored for 1h after the injection.Contact hypersensitivity reaction was induced by topical application of 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene(DNFB)to the ears of mice.After DNFBchallenge,ear thickness was measured 0,24 and 48h.RESULTS We discovered that C.cassia significantly inhibited compound 48/80-induced anaphylaxis and DNFB-induced ear swelling.Compound 48/80-induced anaphylaxiswas completely inhibited at the dose of 60mg·kg-1 body weight.Ear swelling at 24 h after DNFB-challenge was significantly less than that in the control group(0.16±0.03 vs.0.32±0.03 mm,P<0.01),while C.cassia was administered at the dose of 200mg·kg-1.CONCLUSION These findings indicate that C.cassiasuppresses allergic reactions,thus has potential value for mitigation of atopic dermatitis.Seunggyeong LEE Jungbin SONG Donghun LEE Young Sik KIM HyunSoo KIM Hailing GUO Juyeon PARK Hocheol KIM 2015中国药理学与毒理学杂志2015,29,S1:0
13Neural Network-Based State of Charge Estimation Method for Lithium-ion Batteries Based on Temperature显示文摘Lithium-ion batteries are commonly used in electric vehicles,mobile phones,and laptops.These batteries demonstrate several advantages,such as environmental friendliness,high energy density,and long life.However,battery overcharging and overdischarging may occur if the batteries are not monitored continuously.Overcharging causesfire and explosion casualties,and overdischar-ging causes a reduction in the battery capacity and life.In addition,the internal resistance of such batteries varies depending on their external temperature,elec-trolyte,cathode material,and other factors;the capacity of the batteries decreases with temperature.In this study,we develop a method for estimating the state of charge(SOC)using a neural network model that is best suited to the external tem-perature of such batteries based on their characteristics.During our simulation,we acquired data at temperatures of 25°C,30°C,35°C,and 40°C.Based on the tem-perature parameters,the voltage,current,and time parameters were obtained,and six cycles of the parameters based on the temperature were used for the experi-ment.Experimental data to verify the proposed method were obtained through a discharge experiment conducted using a vehicle driving simulator.The experi-mental data were provided as inputs to three types of neural network models:mul-tilayer neural network(MNN),long short-term memory(LSTM),and gated recurrent unit(GRU).The neural network models were trained and optimized for the specific temperatures measured during the experiment,and the SOC was estimated by selecting the most suitable model for each temperature.The experimental results revealed that the mean absolute errors of the MNN,LSTM,and GRU using the proposed method were 2.17%,2.19%,and 2.15%,respec-tively,which are better than those of the conventional method(4.47%,4.60%,and 4.40%).Finally,SOC estimation based on GRU using the proposed method was found to be 2.15%,which was the most accurate.Donghun Wang Jonghyun Lee Minchan Kim Insoo Lee 2023Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing2023,,5:0
14Multimodal Fused Deep Learning Networks for Domain Specific Image Similarity Search显示文摘The exponential increase in data over the past fewyears,particularly in images,has led to more complex content since visual representation became the new norm.E-commerce and similar platforms maintain large image catalogues of their products.In image databases,searching and retrieving similar images is still a challenge,even though several image retrieval techniques have been proposed over the decade.Most of these techniques work well when querying general image databases.However,they often fail in domain-specific image databases,especially for datasets with low intraclass variance.This paper proposes a domain-specific image similarity search engine based on a fused deep learning network.The network is comprised of an improved object localization module,a classification module to narrow down search options and finally a feature extraction and similarity calculation module.The network features both an offline stage for indexing the dataset and an online stage for querying.The dataset used to evaluate the performance of the proposed network is a custom domain-specific dataset related to cosmetics packaging gathered from various online platforms.The proposed method addresses the intraclass variance problem with more precise object localization and the introduction of top result reranking based on object contours.Finally,quantitative and qualitative experiment results are presented,showing improved image similarity search performance.Umer Waqas Jesse Wiebe Visser Hana Choe Donghun Lee 2023Computers, Materials & Continua2023,,4:0
15High-throughput computational-experimental screening protocol for the discovery of bimetallic catalysts显示文摘To accelerate the discovery of materials through computations and experiments,a well-established protocol closely bridging these methods is required.We introduce a high-throughput screening protocol for the discovery of bimetallic catalysts that replace palladium(Pd),where the similarities in the electronic density of states patterns were employed as a screening descriptor.Using first-principles calculations,we screened 4350 bimetallic alloy structures and proposed eight candidates expected to have catalytic performance comparable to that of Pd.Our experiments demonstrate that four bimetallic catalysts indeed exhibit catalytic properties comparable to those of Pd.Moreover,we discover a bimetallic(Ni-Pt)catalyst that has not yet been reported for H_(2)O_(2) direct synthesis.In particular,Ni_(61)Pt_(39) outperforms the prototypical Pd catalyst for the chemical reaction and exhibits a 9.5-fold enhancement in cost-normalized productivity.This protocol provides an opportunity for the catalyst discovery for the replacement or reduction in the use of the platinum-group metals.Byung Chul Yeo Hyunji Nam Hyobin Nam Min-Cheol Kim Hong Woo Lee Sung-Chul Kim Sung Ok Won Donghun Kim Kwan-Young Lee Seung Yong Lee Sang Soo Han 2021npj Computational Materials2021,,1:0
