| 2 | Isolation and characterization of dengue virus serotype 2 from the large dengue outbreak in Guangdong, China in 2014显示文摘Dengue has been well recognized as a global public health threat,but only sporadic epidemics and imported cases were reported in recent decades in China.Since July 2014,an unexpected large dengue outbreak has occurred in Guangdong province,China,resulting in more than 40000 patients including six deaths.To clarify and characterize the causative agent of this outbreak,the acute phase serum from a patient diagnosed with severe dengue was subjected to virus isolation and high-throughput sequencing(HTS).Traditional real-time RT-PCR and HTS with Ion Torrent PGM detected the presence of dengue virus serotype 2(DENV-2).A clinical DENV-2 isolate GZ05/2014 was obtained by culturing the patient serum in mosquito C6/36 cells.The complete genome of GZ05/2014 was determined and deposited in Gen Bank under the access number KP012546.Phylogenetic analysis based on the complete envelope gene showed that the newly DENV-2 isolate belonged to Cosmopolitan genotype and clustered closely with other Guangdong strains isolated in the past decade.No amino acid mutations that are obviously known to increase virulence or replication were identified throughout the genome of GZ05/2014.The high homology of Guangdong DENV-2 strains indicated the possibility of establishment of local DENV-2 circulation in Guangdong,China.These results help clarify the origin of this epidemic and predict the future status of dengue in China. | ZHAO Hui ZHAO Ling Zhai JIANG Tao LI Xiao Feng FAN Hang HONG Wen Xin ZHANG Yu ZHU Qin YE Qing TONG Yi Gang CAO Wu Chun ZHANG Fu Chun QIN Cheng Feng | 2014 | Science China(Life Sciences)2014,57,12: | 21 |

| 5 | Geochronology and Sr-Nd-Hf isotopic composition of the granites,enclaves,and dikes in the Karamay area,NW China:Insights into late Carboniferous crustal growth of West Junggar显示文摘New whole-rock major and trace elements,and zircon U-Pb and Hf-Nd isotope compositions are reported for the Karamay dikes,enclaves,and host granites in the West Junggar,NW China.Zircon U-Pb dating of the Karamay pluton yields an age of 300.7 ± 2.3 Ma for the enclave and 300.0 ± 2.6 Ma for the host granite,which was intruded by dike with an age of 298 Ma.The host granites exhibit relatively low SiO_2 contents and A/CNK and Ga/Al ratios,low initial ^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr ratios(0.703421—0.703526) and positive εHf(t)(5.5—14.1) and εNd(t)(7.3—8.1) values with a young model age,suggesting that they are I-type granites and were mainly derived from a juvenile lower crustal source.The enclaves and dikes belong to an andesitic calc-alkaline series and have high MgO concentrations at low silica content and positive εNf(t)(7.6-13.2,14.2-14.9) and εNd(t)(6.8-8.3,~6.9) values.They are enriched in LILEs(Rb,Ba and U) and LREE and depleted in HFSEs(Nb and Ta) with insignificant negative Eu anomalies,indicating that the melts were derived from an enriched lithospheric mantle modified by subducted oceanic crust-derived melts and minor fluids,followed by fractional crystallization.The Karamay host granites and enclaves are of mixed origin and are most probably formed by the interaction between the lower crust- and lithospheric mantle-derived magmas,and were intruded by the unmixed dikes subsequently.The upwelling mantle through a slab window in an island arc environment might have triggered partial melting of the lithospheric mantle and its subsequent interaction with the granitic magma,further suggesting that the ridge subduction played an important role in the crustal growth of West Junggar. | Di Li Dengfa He Chun Fan | 2015 | Geoscience Frontiers2015,6,2: | 8 |
| 6 | Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. | 7 | Ultrasonic diagnosis and vasoactive substances examination in patients with cirrhosis显示文摘Objective:To investigate hemodynamic change of patients with cirrhosis by using Color Doppler ultrasound technique and to explore the significance of change in the content of vasoactive substances-plasma endothelin-1(ET-1)and calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP).Methods:A total of 178 cases with cirrhosis were regarded as study groups,and were divided into three degrees:A,B and C according to child-pugh and meanwhile 60 cases were regarded as normal control group.Portal vein and splenic vein of patients were explored by adopting Color Doppler ultrasound technique,related indexes were recorded and the blood flow as well as their ration in the two groups was calculated.Radio immunoassay was adopted to detect the content of plasma ET-1 and CGRP in both study group and contrast group.Results:Compared with the healthy cases in the contrast group,there was abnormal hemodynamics in the system of portal vein of patients with cirrhosis and the content of plasma ET-1 and CGRP was increased obviously.In the Child-Pugh liver function grades,the content of ET-1 and CGRP was increased as the degree of cirrhosis became more and more serious.There was no significant difference in the comparison between those without ascites and those in contrast group(P>0.05),the content of plasma ET-1and CGRP in patients without ascites was increased remarkably.Besides,there was positive correlation between the content of plasma ET-1 and CGRP and Dpv,Dsv and Qsv.Conclusion:Dotection of abnormal hemodynamics of portal vein and splenic vein by Color Doppler ultrasound technique can be one of the means for diagnosis of hypertension.Plasma ET-1 and CGRP of patients with cirrhosis reflect the serious degree of the damage in live function and play an important role in the formation and development of portal hypertension. | Mei Fan Chun Su Lin Lu Jun-Chang Qin Pei Li Jia-Ying Yuan | 2014 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2014,7,4: | 7 |
| 8 | Role of epidermal growth factor in pathogenesis of uterine leiomyomas显示文摘Objective:To investigate the role of epidermal growth factor(EGF) in the pathogenesis of uterine leiomyomas.Methods:Human myometrial smooth muscle cells(HM-SMCs) and smooth muscle cells of human uterine leiomyomas(HL-SMCs) were separated from patients' specimens and cultured.After processed by EGF or PD98059(inhibitor of MKK/MEK) +EGF,the proliferation rate of both SMCs was detected by BrdU method and the phosphorylation level of p44/42 mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK) was determined by Western-blot.After different processing time by EGF,the phosphorylation levels of p44/42 MAPK and AKT and p27 expression level in both SMCs were detected by Western-blot.Results:EGF could significantly promote HL-SMCs proliferation and PD98059 could inhibit this effect(P<0.05);besides,PD98059 could inhibit the increase of the phosphorylation level of p44/42 MAPK in both SMCs induced by EGF.When the processing time by EGF was over 15 min,the phosphorylation levels of p44/42 MAPK and AKT in both SMCs decreased sharply and were close to zero:p27 expression in HM-SMCs raised significantly while the upregulation in HL-SMCs was little.Conclusions:EGF could not cause activation of EGFR because of the dephosphorylation of p44/42 MAPK and AKT in HL-SMCs,which caused p27 expression insufficiently and cell cycle dysregulation. | Chun Su Mei Fan Lin Lu Pei Li | 2015 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2015,8,5: | 6 |

| 10 | On the horizon of Protopteryx and the early vertebrate fossil assemblages of the Jehol Biota显示文摘Protopteryx, a monotypic fossil bird discovered from the Sichakou basin in Fengning, Hebei, is the most primitive enantiornithine currently known. The bird-bearing strata do not contain the index fossils of the Yixian Formation in western Liaoning; the fish and bird fossils have more primitive features than the related forms found in the Yixian Formation, and the conchostracans are those usually distributed in the Dabeigou and Dadianzi formations in northern Hebei. Besides, the Protopteryx-bearing strata underlie the deposits bearing the index fossils of the Yixian Formation in the neighboring basin. Thus, it could be confirmed that the horizon of Protopteryx should be lower than the Yixian Formation, and is approximately equivalent to the Dadianzi Formation in northern Hebei. This is the lowest horizon of the known fossil birds in China and Mesozoic enantiornithine birds in the world. Accompanying Protop- teryx, there are other birds, acipenseriform fishes, salamanders, and mammals, which compose the Peipiaosteus fengningensis-Protopteryx fengningensis assemblage. This new assemblage traces the vertebrate evolution history of the Jehol Biota back to 130.7 Ma before. | 11 | Potential association of long noncoding RNA HA117 with tetralogy of Fallot显示文摘Tetralogy of Fallot(TOF)is a congenital heart disease characterized by abnormal cardiomyocyte differentiation in the right ventricular outflow tract(RVOT),and HA117 is a novel long noncoding RNA(lncRNA)with anti-differentiation roles.To investigate the potential association of HA117 with TOF,we collected 84 RVOT tissues from patients with TOF.We determined the expression of HA117 in RVOT samples from TOF patients and collected clinical data to conduct a cross-sectional and short-term follow-up study.McGoon ratio,Nakata index,and left ventricular end-diastolic volume index(LVEDVI)were negatively correlated with the expression of HA117 based on subgroup analysis,correlation analysis and logistic regression analysis.Additionally,cardiopulmonary bypass(CPB)time and ICU stay were longer in patients with higher expression of HA117 than in patients with lower expression of HA117.Furthermore,percentage improvement in SPO2 was significantly reduced in patients with increased HA117 expression at 6 months after surgery.Our results suggested that the increased expression of the novel lncRNA HA117 is a risk factor for unfavorable McGoon ratio,Nakata index and LVEDVI in TOF patients.Additionally,an increased expression of HA117 might lead to adverse short-term outcomes in TOF patients. | Quan Wang Zhili Wang Chun Wu Zhengxia Pan Li Xiang Hang Liu Xin Jin Kerong Tong Shulei Fan Xianqing Jin | 2018 | Genes & Diseases2018,5,2: | 5 |

| 13 | Molecular and Epidemiological Characterization of Infant Botulism in Beijing, China显示文摘Laboratory-based pathogen isolation, identification, and toxicity determination were performed on samples from a suspected case of infant botulism. Mice injected with cultures generated from the enema sample and ingested Powered infant formula(PIF) presented typical signs of botulism. Antitoxins to polyvalent botulinum neurotoxins(BoNTs) and monovalent BoNT type B antitoxin had protective effects. Clostridium botulinum isolated from the enema and residual PIF samples were positive for type B toxin. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis(PFGE) revealed that the two strains of C. botulinum isolated from the two samples produced indistinguishable pulsotypes. | 14 | High Physical Activity is Associated with an Improved Lipid Profile and Resting Heart Rate among Healthy Middle-aged Chinese People显示文摘Objective To investigate the effects of physical activity(PA) on dyslipidemia and elevated resting heart rate(RHR) in a large-scale cross-sectional study in China. Methods We recruited community-based individuals who were 40-60 years old using a cluster sampling method. The PA levels of the participants were classified as low, moderate, or high, using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Dyslipidemia was defined as the detection of abnormalities in lipid indicators, and 4 lipid parameters were evaluated using fasting blood samples. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the associations of PA with dyslipidemia and RHR. Results A total of 10,321 participants(38.88% men) were included in this study. The percentages of individuals with high, moderate, and low PA levels were 46.5%, 43.9%, and 9.6%, respectively. In both men and women, high PA provided odds ratios of 0.88 [95% confidence interval(CI): 0.83, 0.94] for dyslipidemia and 0.82(95% CI: 0.73, 0.92) for elevated RHR, compared to participants with low PA. | 15 | Bioremediation of Hexavalent Chromium Pollution by Sporosarcina saromensis M52 Isolated from Offshore Sediments in Xiamen, China显示文摘Objective Cr(VI)removal from industrial effluents and sediments has attracted the attention of environmental researchers.In the present study,we aimed to isolate bacteria for Cr(VI)bioremediation from sediment samples and to optimize parameters of biodegradation.Methods Strains with the ability to tolerate Cr(VI)were obtained by serial dilution and spread plate methods and characterized by morphology,16S r DNA identification,and phylogenetic analysis.Cr(VI)was determined using the 1,5-diphenylcarbazide method,and the optimum p H and temperature for degradation were studied using a multiple-factor mixed experimental design.Statistical analysis methods were used to analyze the results.Results Fifty-five strains were obtained,and one strain(Sporosarcina saromensis M52;patent application number:201410819443.3)having the ability to tolerate 500 mg Cr(VI)/L was selected to optimize the degradation conditions.M52 was found be able to efficiently remove 50-200 mg Cr(VI)/L in24 h,achieving the highest removal efficiency at p H 7.0-8.5 and 35°C.Moreover,M52 could completely degrade 100 mg Cr(VI)/L at p H 8.0 and 35°C in 24 h.The mechanism involved in the reduction of Cr(VI)was considered to be bioreduction rather than absorption.Conclusion The strong degradation ability of S.saromensis M52 and its advantageous functional characteristics support the potential use of this organism for bioremediation of heavy metal pollution. | ZHAO Ran WANG Bi CAI Qing Tao LI Xiao Xia LIU Min HU Dong GUO Dong Bei WANG Juan FAN Chun | 2016 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2016,29,2: | 4 |
| 16 | Ultrasonic diagnosis of patients with clonorchiasis and preliminary study of pathogenic mechanism显示文摘Objective:To discuss the liver function damage mechanism of patients with clonorchiasis by analyzing the ultrasound characteristics,liver function,change of the serum inflammatory factors and cell apoptosis factors.Methods:Color Doppler ultrasound technique was adopted to detect the portal vein and blood flow change of patients with clonorchiasis;ELISA was used to determine the level of different serum inflammatory factors.The levels of serum total bilirubin,serum albumin and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase were detected by automatic biochemical analyzer.Western blot was used to determine the expression of proteins relevant to apoptosis.Results:Compared with the health control group,the trunk diameter of portal vein and the thickness of spleen,as well as the hepatic artery pulsation index of clonorchiasis patients increased obviously,the mean blood flow velocity of portal vein(P<0.05 or P<0.01) decreased.The content of total bilirubin and transaminase in plasma increased significantly,but albumin decreased(P<0.05).Levels of TNF-α,IL-6 and IFN-γ increased remarkably,and the level of every factor was significantly different among patients with Child-Pugh Ⅰ,Child-Pugh Ⅱ and Child-Pugh Ⅲ classification of liver function(P<0.05 or P<0.01).With the exacerbation of liver dysfunction,levels of TNF-α,IL-6 and IFN-γ gradually increased(P<0.05).Compared with the healthy control group,the expression quantity of apoptosis protein Fas,FasL,Bax and Caspase-3 increased significantly(P<0.05 or P<0.01),but Bcl-2 decreased(P<0.05).Conclusions:Changes of ultrasonic characteristics and liver dysfunction,caused by liver fluke infection,may be related to that both inflammatory response and apoptosis response have participated in the pathogenic process and liver damage course of clonorchiasis. | Mei Fan Lin Lu Chun Su Mei Xue Ji-Mei Dou Pei Li Han-Qi Feng Yan-Bing Fan | 2016 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,7: | 3 |

According to the 2007 China Census, the number of left-behind children aged ≤ 14 years was estimated at 58 million, which suggested that these children constituted a large population, especially in Chinese rural areas[1]. Till date, only a few studies have investigated the problems of dietary behaviors in rural left-behind children. A pilot study indicated that approximately 50% of left-behind children in Chinese rural areas had poor dietary behaviors[2]. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of research with large sample sizes that could reveal the actual background of dietary behaviors in these children.
