1Phytoplankton composition and its ecological effect in subsurface cold pool of the northern Bering Sea in summer as revealed by HPLC derived pigment signatures显示文摘CHEMTAX analysis of high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) pigment was conducted to study phytoplankton community structure in the northern Bering Sea shelf, where a seasonal subsurface cold pool emerges. The results showed that fucoxanthin(Fuco) and chlorophyll a(Chl a) were the most abundant diagnostic pigments, with the integrated water column values ranging from 141 to 2 160 μg/m2 and 477 to 5 535 μg/m2, respectively. Moreover, a diatom bloom was identified at Sta. BB06 with the standing stock of Fuco up to 9 214 μg/m3. The results of CHEMTAX suggested that the phytoplankton community in the northern Bering Sea shelf was dominated by diatoms and chrysophytes with an average relative contribution to Chl a of 80% and 12%, respectively, followed by chlorophytes, dinoflagellates, and cryptophytes. Diatoms were the absolutely dominant algae in the subsurface cold pool with a relative contribution exceeding 90%, while the contribution of chrysophytes was generally higher in oligotrophic upper water. 2Image formation of brain function in patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis treated with moxibustion显示文摘OBJECTIVES:Functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI) technology was used to study changes to the resting state blood flow in the brains of patients with knee osteoarthritis(KOA) before and after treatment with moxibustion at the acupoint of the left Dubi(ST 35) and to probe the cerebral mechanism underlying the effect of moxibustion.METHODS:The resting state brain function of 30 patients with left KOA was scanned with fMRI before and after treatment with moxibustion.The analytic methods of fractional amplitude of low frequency fluctuation(fALFF) and regional homogeneity(ReHo) were used to observe changes in resting state brain function.RESULTS:The fALFF values of the right cerebrum,extra-nucleus,left cerebellum,left cerebrum and white matter of patients after moxibustion treatment were higher than before treatment,and the fALFF values of the precentral gyrus,frontal lobe and occipital lobe were lower than before treatment(P<0.05,K≥85).The ReHo values of the thalamus,extra-nucleus and parietal lobe of patients were much higher than those before moxibustion treatment,and the ReHo values of the right cerebrum,left cerebrum and frontal lobe were lower than before treatment(P<0.05,K≥85).CONCLUSION:The influence of moxibustion on obvious changes in brain regions basically conforms to the way that pain and warmth is transmitted in the body,and the activation of sensitive systems in the body may be objective evidence of channel transmission.The regulation of brain function by moxibustion is not in a single brain region but rather in a network of many brain regions.Hongwu Xie Fangming Xu Rixin Chen Tianyou Luo Mingren Chen Weidong Fang Fajin Lü Fei Wu Yune Song Jun Xiong 2013Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2013,33,2:7
3Nitrate δ^(15)N and δ^(18)O evidence for active biological transformation in the Changjiang Estuary and the adjacent East China Sea显示文摘The Changjiang Estuary has been considered as one of the most polluted estuaries in the world due to high nitrate (NO-3) input, especially in spring and summer. In this study, δ15N and δ18O of NO-3 , along with other chemical parameters in this area, were measured in spring to evaluate NO-3 biogeochemical processes. A simple two end-members mixing model was used to examine the relative contribution of the Changjiang River Diluted Water and marine water to NO-3 sources in the Changjiang Estuary and the adjacent East China Sea. The isotopic signals show that NO-3 behaved relatively and conservatively in Transect F and Transect P where assimilation was weak possibly due to vertical mixing, while active assimilation and weak nitrification occurred in Transect D. Spatial difference in assimilation was indicated by the~1:1 enrichment of δ15N and δ18O in the three transects, while spatial difference in nitrification was reflected by deviations of δ15 N and δ18O from assimilation line. 4Response of nutrients and the surface phytoplankton community to ice melting in the central Arctic Ocean显示文摘During the fourth Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition cruise in summer 2010, a time-series observation was carried out to examine the response of nutrients and phytoplankton community in the ice-water interface to the ice melting ice in the central Arctic Ocean. Phosphate and silicate in the ice-water interface were rich relative to dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), based on the Redfield ratio (16N:1P:16Si), suggesting that DIN was the potential limiting nutrient. DIN concentrations in the sea ice were about 3-4 times that in the surface seawater, indicating that melting ice delivered DIN to the surface water. Pigment analysis showed that fucoxanthin and chlorophyll a contribute to carotenoids and chlorophylls in particles. The mean concentrations of chlorophyll c,diatoxanthin, diadinoxanthin and fucoxanthin from 15 August to 18 August were 6 μgm-3, 22 μgm-3, 73 μgm-3 and 922 μg·m-3, respectively, suggesting that diatoms dominated in the phytoplankton community composition.Furthermore, a notable enhancement in fucoxanthin and chlorophyll a during a large-scale ice melting was likely attributed to senescent diatoms released from the bottom sea-ice as well as phytoplankton diatoms growth in the water column due to the input of nutrients (i.e., DIN) and reducing light limitation from melting ice. 6Development and Validation of a Nomogram for Prediction of the Risk of MAFLD in an Overweight and Obese Population显示文摘Background and Aims:Metabolic associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)is a serious condition,and a simple meth-od is needed for practitioners to identify patients with the disease and have a high risk of disease progression.Meth-ods:We developed and validated a nomogram for fatty liver disease and reclassified the risk factors for MAFLD.The development cohort had 335 patients who received bioel-ectrical impedance analysis and liver ultrasound attenua-tion measurements at Shenzhen People’s Hospital between September 2020 and June 2021.The validation cohort had 200 patients from other hospitals who received the same evaluation.A random forest procedure and binary logistic analysis were used to screen for risk factors,establish a fatty liver disease predictive model,and forecast the risk of MAFLD.The performance of the nomogram was evaluated by measurement of discrimination,calibration,and clinical usefulness.Results:The nomogram provided good predic-tions in a model that included body mass index(BMI)and waist circumference.The areas under the curve of the nom-ogram were 0.793 in the development cohort and 0.774 in the validation cohort.The nomogram performed well for calibration,category-free net reclassification improvement,and integrated discrimination improvement.Decision curve analysis indicated the nomogram performed better than BMI for predicting net outcome.Conclusions:The nomo-gram was an effective screening tool for fatty liver disease,and for those overweight individuals,may help physicians make appropriate decisions regarding treatment of MAFLD.Di Song Qian Ge Ming Chen Song Bai Xiaoshu Lai Gege Huang Mengmeng Liu Miaofang Lin Jinfeng Xu Fajin Dong 2022Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2022,10,6:1

9Infl uence of sequential tropical cyclones on phytoplankton blooms in the northwestern South China Sea显示文摘Upper ocean responses to the passage of sequential tropical cyclones over the northwestern South China Sea(SCS)in 2011 were investigated using satellite remote sensing data,Argo reanalysis data,and an array of mooring data.We found that the sea surface low temperature region lasted for more than 38 days and two phytoplankton blooms occurred after the passage of sequential tropical cyclones.The upper ocean cooling reached 2–5°C with a right-side bias was observed along the typhoon track to about 200 km.The maintenance of low temperature region and the two phytoplankton blooms were mainly driven by upwelling and near-inertial turbulence mixing induced by the sequential tropical cyclones.The fi rst phytoplankton bloom appeared on the 7 th day after the passage of the three tropical cyclones,and the chlorophyll-a(chl-a)concentration increased by 226%,which may be mainly driven by typhoons induced upwelling.The second phytoplankton bloom occurred on the 30 th day,the chl-a concentration increased by 290%.Further analysis suggested that only the typhoons with similar characteristics as Nesat and Nalgae can induce strong near-inertial oscillation(NIO).Strong turbulent mixing associated with the near-inertial baroclinic shear instability lasted for 26 days.The measured mean eddy diff usivity in the upper ocean was above 10-4 m 2/s after typhoon Nesat.Enhancement of the turbulent mixing in the upper ocean helped to transport nutrient-rich cold waters from the deep layer to the euphotic layer,and is a major mechanism for the long-term maintenance of low temperature region as well as the second phytoplankton bloom.Tongyu WANG Shuwen ZHANG Fajin CHEN Yonggui MA Chen JIANG Jie YU 2021Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2021,39,1:1

11The distribution and composition of hydrocarbons in sediments of the South Mid-Atlantic Ridge显示文摘Sediment samples obtained from the South Mid-Atlantic Ridge are analyzed by a gas chromatography-mass spectrometer(GC-MS) for the abundances and distributions of hydrocarbons. The hydrocarbons in the samples exhibit a bimodal distribution of n-alkanes and are rich in 3-methylalkanes, 8-methylalkanes and 2, 4,(n-1)-trimethylalkanes, which may be the result of metabolic activity of benthic microorganism. 13Distribution and Sources of Particulate Organic Matter in the Northern South China Sea: Implications of Human Activity显示文摘In order to understand origin and fate of particulate organic matter,the isotopic composition(δ^(13)C andδ^(15)N),total or-ganic carbon content,total nitrogen content,and C/N ratios were measured for suspended particulate organic matter(POM)collected from the northern South China Sea(NSCS)during summer.Our study revealed thatδ^(13)C generally decreased from land to sea,and elevatedδ^(13)C occurred at the nearshore stations,suggesting that POC was mainly contributed from the eutrophic level and microbial activity.Moreover,the distribution ofδ^(15)N values were complicated,and heterotrophic modification was responsible for higherδ^(15)N in the nearshore stations.These distribution patterns ofδ^(13)C andδ^(15)N in the nearshore stations may be associated with the intensifi-cation of human activity in the coast.Based on the Stable Isotope Analysis in R model,65%of POM was contributed by marine or-ganic matter in the NSCS,20%by terrestrial inputs,and 15%by freshwater algae.HUANG Chao LAO Qibin CHEN Fajin ZHANG Shuwen CHEN Chunqing BIAN Peiwang ZHU Qingmei 2021Journal of Ocean University of China2021,20,5:0
14Multi-proxy reconstructions of hydrological changes from continental shelf sediments in the northern South China Sea during the interval 9200–6200 cal a BP显示文摘Past hydroclimatic conditions in southern China are poorly constrained owing to the lack of high-resolution marine-sediment records. In this study, we present high-resolution geochemical and grain-size records of marine sediments from the coastal shelf of the northern South China Sea to investigate regional hydrological variations.Results suggest a warm and humid climate during the interval 9 200–7 600 cal a BP, followed by a cold and dry climate from 7 600 cal a BP to 6 500 cal a BP, and progressive humidification during the period 6 500–6 200 cal a BP.A prominent hydrological anomaly occurred during 7 600–6 500 cal a BP. 153-D observations of a red tide event in the offshore water along the western Guangdong coast显示文摘From November 24 to 26, 2014, a red tide event occurred in the offshore water off the Hailing Island located at the western Guangdong coast. The red tide appeared as pink strips distributed within 3 km in the offshore water and extended for about 10 km along the shoreline. During the flood tide, the pink seawater rushed to the beach with breaking waves, forming foam strips on the beach. Guangdong Province Key Laboratory for Coastal Ocean Variation and Disaster Prediction Technologies, Guangdong Ocean University, emergently responded to the event and organized three-dimensional observations from the air, onboard and on beach.
