| 1 | Phytoplankton composition and its ecological effect in subsurface cold pool of the northern Bering Sea in summer as revealed by HPLC derived pigment signatures显示文摘CHEMTAX analysis of high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) pigment was conducted to study phytoplankton community structure in the northern Bering Sea shelf, where a seasonal subsurface cold pool emerges. The results showed that fucoxanthin(Fuco) and chlorophyll a(Chl a) were the most abundant diagnostic pigments, with the integrated water column values ranging from 141 to 2 160 μg/m2 and 477 to 5 535 μg/m2, respectively. Moreover, a diatom bloom was identified at Sta. BB06 with the standing stock of Fuco up to 9 214 μg/m3. The results of CHEMTAX suggested that the phytoplankton community in the northern Bering Sea shelf was dominated by diatoms and chrysophytes with an average relative contribution to Chl a of 80% and 12%, respectively, followed by chlorophytes, dinoflagellates, and cryptophytes. Diatoms were the absolutely dominant algae in the subsurface cold pool with a relative contribution exceeding 90%, while the contribution of chrysophytes was generally higher in oligotrophic upper water. | 2 | Image formation of brain function in patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis treated with moxibustion显示文摘OBJECTIVES:Functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI) technology was used to study changes to the resting state blood flow in the brains of patients with knee osteoarthritis(KOA) before and after treatment with moxibustion at the acupoint of the left Dubi(ST 35) and to probe the cerebral mechanism underlying the effect of moxibustion.METHODS:The resting state brain function of 30 patients with left KOA was scanned with fMRI before and after treatment with moxibustion.The analytic methods of fractional amplitude of low frequency fluctuation(fALFF) and regional homogeneity(ReHo) were used to observe changes in resting state brain function.RESULTS:The fALFF values of the right cerebrum,extra-nucleus,left cerebellum,left cerebrum and white matter of patients after moxibustion treatment were higher than before treatment,and the fALFF values of the precentral gyrus,frontal lobe and occipital lobe were lower than before treatment(P<0.05,K≥85).The ReHo values of the thalamus,extra-nucleus and parietal lobe of patients were much higher than those before moxibustion treatment,and the ReHo values of the right cerebrum,left cerebrum and frontal lobe were lower than before treatment(P<0.05,K≥85).CONCLUSION:The influence of moxibustion on obvious changes in brain regions basically conforms to the way that pain and warmth is transmitted in the body,and the activation of sensitive systems in the body may be objective evidence of channel transmission.The regulation of brain function by moxibustion is not in a single brain region but rather in a network of many brain regions. | Hongwu Xie Fangming Xu Rixin Chen Tianyou Luo Mingren Chen Weidong Fang Fajin Lü Fei Wu Yune Song Jun Xiong | 2013 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2013,33,2: | 7 |

| 4 | Nitrate δ^(15)N and δ^(18)O evidence for active biological transformation in the Changjiang Estuary and the adjacent East China Sea显示文摘The Changjiang Estuary has been considered as one of the most polluted estuaries in the world due to high nitrate (NO-3) input, especially in spring and summer. In this study, δ15N and δ18O of NO-3 , along with other chemical parameters in this area, were measured in spring to evaluate NO-3 biogeochemical processes. A simple two end-members mixing model was used to examine the relative contribution of the Changjiang River Diluted Water and marine water to NO-3 sources in the Changjiang Estuary and the adjacent East China Sea. The isotopic signals show that NO-3 behaved relatively and conservatively in Transect F and Transect P where assimilation was weak possibly due to vertical mixing, while active assimilation and weak nitrification occurred in Transect D. Spatial difference in assimilation was indicated by the~1:1 enrichment of δ15N and δ18O in the three transects, while spatial difference in nitrification was reflected by deviations of δ15 N and δ18O from assimilation line. | 5 | Response of nutrients and the surface phytoplankton community to ice melting in the central Arctic Ocean显示文摘During the fourth Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition cruise in summer 2010, a time-series observation was carried out to examine the response of nutrients and phytoplankton community in the ice-water interface to the ice melting ice in the central Arctic Ocean. Phosphate and silicate in the ice-water interface were rich relative to dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), based on the Redfield ratio (16N:1P:16Si), suggesting that DIN was the potential limiting nutrient. DIN concentrations in the sea ice were about 3-4 times that in the surface seawater, indicating that melting ice delivered DIN to the surface water. Pigment analysis showed that fucoxanthin and chlorophyll a contribute to carotenoids and chlorophylls in particles. The mean concentrations of chlorophyll c,diatoxanthin, diadinoxanthin and fucoxanthin from 15 August to 18 August were 6 μgm-3, 22 μgm-3, 73 μgm-3 and 922 μg·m-3, respectively, suggesting that diatoms dominated in the phytoplankton community composition.Furthermore, a notable enhancement in fucoxanthin and chlorophyll a during a large-scale ice melting was likely attributed to senescent diatoms released from the bottom sea-ice as well as phytoplankton diatoms growth in the water column due to the input of nutrients (i.e., DIN) and reducing light limitation from melting ice. | 7 | Diagnostic value of fluid attenuated inversion recovery versus T_2-weighted image in diffuse axonal injury显示文摘BACKGROUND:At present, the most common examination modality for diffuse axonal injury (DAI) is CT or MRI. However, both methods exhibit low sensitivity in the diagnosis of DAI lesions. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the value of fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) in the clinical diagnosis of DAI, and to compare with T2-weighted images. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: This prospective study was based on imaging analysis, and was performed in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University (Chongqing, China) between October 2002 and April 2004. PARTICIPANTS: Sixty-three patients with craniocerebral injury were admitted to the Department of Neurosurgery at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, including 50 males and 13 females. The patients were included in the experiment and were divided into DAI (n=24) and non-DAI (n=39) groups, according to the emergent CT findings and clinical manifestations. METHODS: Both groups underwent MR examinations, including axial and sagittal T1 weighted images (TR = 450 ms, TE = 8–9 ms), T2-weighted images (TR = 3 600 ms, TE = 100 ms), and FLAIR (TR = 10 000 ms, TI = 2 500 ms, TE = 40 ms), 8-mm thick and 2-mm wide, using a GE Sigma MRI device. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The DAI diagnostic rate and lesion-detecting rate of T2-weighted images and FLAIR were determined. RESULTS: All 63 patients were included in the final analysis. The DAI diagnosis rates of FLAIR and T2-weighted images were 88% (21/24) and 62% (15/24), respectively, of which the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). T2-weighted images and FLAIR detected lesions located in the gray matter-white matter junction in parasagittal areas, the corpus callosum, deep periventricular white matter, basal ganglia, internal capsule, hippocampus, cerebellum, and brain stem, with a detailed amount of 123 and 256, respectively. FLAIR was significantly greater than T2-weighted images (P < 0.01). | 8 | Evaluation of non-typical diffuse axonal injury by magnetic resonance techniques显示文摘Because diffuse axonal injury (DAI) lacks specific clinical manifestations, it is difficult to evaluate DAI using computer tomography or conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This study investigated the value of magnetic resonance techniques using fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1HMRS) for diagnosing DAI. The corpus callosum and basal nuclei were analyzed using morphological and functional imaging. Similar to the DAI group, the non-typical DAI group exhibited similar lesion characteristics on FLAIR, as well as post-injury neurochemical and molecular changes in the corpus callosum, as detected by 1HMRS. However, there were differences in degree and severity of injury. Compared to conventional MRI, FLAIR significantly increased lesion detection. 1HMRS determined biochemical metabolism changes in midline structures following DAI, which resulted in increased diagnosis of non-typical DAI, which displayed similar lesion distribution, morphology, and function as DAI. | 10 | IDH1 fine-tunes cap-dependent translation initiation显示文摘The metabolic enzyme isocitrate dehydrogenase 1(IDH1)catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to a-ketoglutarate(a-KG).Its mutation often leads to aberrant gene expression in cancer.IDH1 was reported to bind thousands of RNA transcripts in a sequence-dependent manner;yet,the functional significance of this RNA-binding activity remains elusive.Here,we report that IDH1 promotes mRNA translation via direct associations with polysome mRNA and translation machinery.Comprehensive proteomic analysis in embryonic stem cells(ESCs)revealed strikingenrichmentof ribosomal proteins and translation regulators in IDH1-bound protein interactomes.We performed ribosomal profiling and analyzed mRNA transcripts that are associated with actively translating polysomes.Interestingly,knockout of IDH1 in ESCs led to significant downregulation of polysome-bound mRNA in IDH1 targets and subtle upregulation of ribosome densities at the start codon,indicating inefficient translation initiation upon loss of IDH1.Tethering IDH1 to a luciferase mRNA via the MS2-MBP system promotes luciferase translation,independently of the catalytic activity of IDH1.Intriguingly,IDH1 fails to enhance luciferase translation driven by an internal ribosome entry site.Together,these results reveal an unforeseen role of IDH1 in fine-tuning cap-dependent translation via the initiation step. | Lichao Liu JYuyang Lu Fajin Li Xudong Xing Tong Li Xuerui Yang Xiaohua Shen | 2019 | Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2019,11,10: | 2 |

| 12 | Development and Validation of a Nomogram for Prediction of the Risk of MAFLD in an Overweight and Obese Population显示文摘Background and Aims:Metabolic associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)is a serious condition,and a simple meth-od is needed for practitioners to identify patients with the disease and have a high risk of disease progression.Meth-ods:We developed and validated a nomogram for fatty liver disease and reclassified the risk factors for MAFLD.The development cohort had 335 patients who received bioel-ectrical impedance analysis and liver ultrasound attenua-tion measurements at Shenzhen People’s Hospital between September 2020 and June 2021.The validation cohort had 200 patients from other hospitals who received the same evaluation.A random forest procedure and binary logistic analysis were used to screen for risk factors,establish a fatty liver disease predictive model,and forecast the risk of MAFLD.The performance of the nomogram was evaluated by measurement of discrimination,calibration,and clinical usefulness.Results:The nomogram provided good predic-tions in a model that included body mass index(BMI)and waist circumference.The areas under the curve of the nom-ogram were 0.793 in the development cohort and 0.774 in the validation cohort.The nomogram performed well for calibration,category-free net reclassification improvement,and integrated discrimination improvement.Decision curve analysis indicated the nomogram performed better than BMI for predicting net outcome.Conclusions:The nomo-gram was an effective screening tool for fatty liver disease,and for those overweight individuals,may help physicians make appropriate decisions regarding treatment of MAFLD. | Di Song Qian Ge Ming Chen Song Bai Xiaoshu Lai Gege Huang Mengmeng Liu Miaofang Lin Jinfeng Xu Fajin Dong | 2022 | Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2022,10,6: | 1 |

| 14 | Dynamic changes of renal cortical blood perfusion before and after percutaneous transluminal renal artery stenting in patients with severe atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis显示文摘Background:This study aims to observe the dynamic changes of renal artery(RA)disease and cortical blood perfusion(CBP)evaluated by contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS)after percutaneous transluminal renal artery stenting(PTRAS)in patients with severe atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis(ARAS)and to analyze the relationship between CBP and prognosis.Methods:This was a single-center retrospective cohort study.A total of 98 patients with unilateral severe ARAS after successful PTRAS in Beijing Hospital from September 2017 to September 2020 were included.According to renal glomerular filtration rate(GFR)detected by radionuclide imaging at 12 months after PTRAS,all patients were divided into the poor prognosis group(n=21,GFR decreased by≥20%compared with baseline)and the control group(n=77,GFR decreased by<20%or improved compared with baseline).Renal artery stenosis was diagnosed by digital subtraction angiography,and renal CBP was evaluated by CEUS using TomTec Imaging Systems(Germany)before PTRAS,at 6 months and 12 months after discharge.The receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve with area under the curve(AUC)was used to analyze the predictive value of CBP parameters,including area under ascending curve(AUC1),area under the descending curve(AUC2),rising time(RT),time to peak intensity(TTP),maximum intensity(IMAX),and mean transit time(MTT)for poor prognosis.Results:Among the 98 patients,there were 52 males(53.1%),aged 55–74 years old,with an average age of 62.1±8.7 years,and an average artery stenosis of 82.3±12.9%.The poor prognosis group was associated with significantly increased incidence of diabetes(76.2%vs.41.6%),and lower levels of GFR of the stenotic kidney(21.8 mL/min vs.25.0 mL/min)and total GFR(57.6 mL/min vs.63.7 mL/min)(all P<0.05),compared with the control group(P<0.05).In addition,the rate of RA restenosis was significantly higher in the poor prognosis group than in the control group(9.5%vs.0,χ^(2)=9.462,P=0.002).Compared with the control group,the poor prognosis group was associated with significantly decreased baseline AUC1 and AUC2,and extended duration of TTP and MTT(P<0.05).At 6 months and 12 months of follow-up,patients in the control group were associated with markedly increased AUC1,AUC2,and IMAX,and shorter duration of RT and MTT(P<0.05).The ROC curve showed that the predictive values of AUC1,AUC2,RT,TTP,IMAX,and MTT for poor prognosis were 0.812(95%CI:0.698–0.945),0.752(95%CI:0.591–0.957),0.724(95%CI:0.569–0.961),0.720(95%CI:0.522–0.993),0.693(95%CI:0.507–0.947),and 0.786(95%CI:0.631–0.979),respectively.Conclusions:Preoperative renal CBP in severe ARAS patients with poor prognosis is significantly reduced,and does not show significant improvement after stent treatment over the first year of follow-up.The parameter AUC1 may be a good predictor for renal dysfunction after PTRAS in severe ARAS patients.Trial Registration:ChiCTR.org.cn,ChiCTR1800016252. | Na Ma Yan Li Siyu Wang Mengpu Li Yongjun Li Hu Ai Hui Zhu Yang Wang Fajin Guo Junhong Ren | 2022 | Chinese Medical Journal2022,,13: | 1 |

| 18 | Infl uence of sequential tropical cyclones on phytoplankton blooms in the northwestern South China Sea显示文摘Upper ocean responses to the passage of sequential tropical cyclones over the northwestern South China Sea(SCS)in 2011 were investigated using satellite remote sensing data,Argo reanalysis data,and an array of mooring data.We found that the sea surface low temperature region lasted for more than 38 days and two phytoplankton blooms occurred after the passage of sequential tropical cyclones.The upper ocean cooling reached 2–5°C with a right-side bias was observed along the typhoon track to about 200 km.The maintenance of low temperature region and the two phytoplankton blooms were mainly driven by upwelling and near-inertial turbulence mixing induced by the sequential tropical cyclones.The fi rst phytoplankton bloom appeared on the 7 th day after the passage of the three tropical cyclones,and the chlorophyll-a(chl-a)concentration increased by 226%,which may be mainly driven by typhoons induced upwelling.The second phytoplankton bloom occurred on the 30 th day,the chl-a concentration increased by 290%.Further analysis suggested that only the typhoons with similar characteristics as Nesat and Nalgae can induce strong near-inertial oscillation(NIO).Strong turbulent mixing associated with the near-inertial baroclinic shear instability lasted for 26 days.The measured mean eddy diff usivity in the upper ocean was above 10-4 m 2/s after typhoon Nesat.Enhancement of the turbulent mixing in the upper ocean helped to transport nutrient-rich cold waters from the deep layer to the euphotic layer,and is a major mechanism for the long-term maintenance of low temperature region as well as the second phytoplankton bloom. | Tongyu WANG Shuwen ZHANG Fajin CHEN Yonggui MA Chen JIANG Jie YU | 2021 | Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2021,39,1: | 1 |

The hydrocarbons in the samples exhibit a bimodal distribution of n-alkanes and are rich in 3-methylalkanes, 8-methylalkanes and 2, 4,(n-1)-trimethylalkanes, which may be the result of metabolic activity of benthic microorganism.
