Pattern of latest tectonic motion and its dynamics for active blocks in Sichuan-Yunnan region, China显示文摘Based on the concept of 'active blocks' and spatial distribution of historical earthquakes with surface ruptures as well as major and subordinate active faults. The Sichuan-Yunnan region can be divided into four first-order blocks. They are the Markam block (I), the Sichuan-Yunnan rhombic block (II), Baoshan-Pu'er block (III), and Mizhina-Ximeng block (IV). Cut by sub-ordinate NE-trending active faults, the Sichuan-Yunnan rhombic block (II) can be further divided into two sub-blocks: the northwestern Sichuan sub-block (II1) and the middle Yunnan sub-block (II2), while the Baoshan- Pu'er block (III) can be further divided into three sub-blocks: Baoshan sub-block (III1), Jinggu sub-block (III2), and Mengla sub-block (III3). A quantitative study of offset landforms is carried out and the basic types of active faults and their long-term slip rates along the major boundaries of active blocks of different orders in the Sichuan-Yunnan region are determined, through slip vector analysis, the motion states of the active blocks are clarified and the deformation coordination on the block margins is discussed. It is suggested that the tectonic motion of the blocks in this region is a complex or superimposition of three basic types of motions: southeastward sliding, rotating on vertical axis, and uplifting. The Markam block (I), the northwestern Sichuan sub-block (II1), and middle Yunnan sub-block (II2) have a southeastward horizontal sliding rate of 1-5 mm/a, clockwise rotating angular rate of 1.4-4(/Ma, and uplifting rate of about 1 mm/a. The Baoshan-Pu'er (III) and Mizhina-Ximeng (IV) blocks have also been extensively clockwise rotated. This pattern of motion is a strain response to the collision between the Indian and Eurasian plates and the localized deformation and differential slip on the block margins associated with the northward motion of the Indian Plate. Because a set of transverse thrusts between the blocks absorbs and transforms some components of eastward or southeastward sliding motion, the eastward escape or extrusion of the Tibetan Plateau is limited as 'imbricated thrusting transformation-limited extrusion model'.XU Xiwei (徐锡伟) WEN Xueze (闻学泽) ZHENG Rongzhang (郑荣章) MA Wentao (马文涛) SONG Fangming (宋方敏) YU Guihua (于贵华) 2003Science China Earth Sciences2003,46,z2:127
Internet of Things to network smart devices for ecosystem monitoring显示文摘Smart, real-time, low-cost, and distributed ecosystem monitoring is essential for understanding and managing rapidly changing ecosystems. However, new techniques in the big data era have rarely been introduced into operational ecosystem monitoring, particularly for fragile ecosystems in remote areas. We introduce the Internet of Things(IoT) techniques to establish a prototype ecosystem monitoring system by developing innovative smart devices and using IoT technologies for ecosystem monitoring in isolated environments. The developed smart devices include four categories: large-scale and nonintrusive instruments to measure evapotranspiration and soil moisture, in situ observing systems for CO2 and d13 C associated with soil respiration, portable and distributed devices for monitoring vegetation variables, and Bi-CMOS cameras and pressure trigger sensors for terrestrial vertebrate monitoring. These new devices outperform conventional devices and are connected to each other via wireless communication networks. The breakthroughs in the ecosystem monitoring IoT include new data loggers and longdistance wireless sensor network technology that supports the rapid transmission of data from devices to wireless networks. The applicability of this ecosystem monitoring IoT is verified in three fragile ecosystems, including a karst rocky desertification area, the National Park for Amur Tigers, and the oasis-desert ecotone in China. By integrating these devices and technologies with an ecosystem monitoring information system, a seamless data acquisition, transmission, processing, and application IoT is created. The establishment of this ecosystem monitoring IoT will serve as a new paradigm for ecosystem monitoring and therefore provide a platform for ecosystem management and decision making in the era of big data.Xin Li Ning Zhao Rui Jin Shaomin Liu Xiaomin Sun Xuefa Wen Dongxiu Wu Yan Zhou Jianwen Guo Shiping Chen Ziwei Xu Mingguo Ma Tianming Wang Yonghua Qu Xinwei Wang Fangming Wu Yuke Zhou 2019Science Bulletin2019,64,17:10
Lotus seed skin proanthocyanidin extract exhibits potent antioxidant property via activation of the Nrf2-ARE pathway显示文摘Lotus seed is well known as traditional food and medicine, but its skin is usually discarded.Recent studies have shown that lotus seed skin contains a high concentration of proanthocyanidins that have multi-functions,such as antioxidation,anti-inflammation,and anti-cancer effects. In the present study,we aimed to isolate and purify the proanthocyanidins from lotus seed skin by acetone extraction and rotary evaporation, identify their chemical structures by HPLC-MS-MS and NMR,and further investigate the antioxidant properties of the extract purified by macroporous resin (PMR) from lotus seed skin both in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that PMR mainly contained oligomeric proanthocyanidins, especially dimeric procyanidin B1 (PB1),procyanidin B2 and procyanidin B4.Although it had limited ability to directly scavenge radicals in vitro,PMR could significantly enhance the expressions of antioxidant proteins via activation of nuclear factory-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-antioxidant response element (ARE) pathway in HepG2 cells.Molecular data revealed that PB1,a major component in PMR,stabilized Nrf2 by inhibiting the ubiquitination of Nrf2,which led to subsequent activation of the Nrf2-ARE pathway, including the enhancements of Nrf2 nuclear translocation,Nrf2-ARE binding and ARE transcriptional activity. Moreover, the in vivo results in high fat diet-induced mice further verified the powerful antioxidant property of PMR.These results revealed that lotus seed skin is a promising resource for functional food development.Tao Li Qili Li Weiguo Wu Yong Li De-xing Hou Hua Xu Baodong Zheng Shaoxiao Zeng Yang Shan Xiangyang Lu Fangming Deng Si Qin 2019Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2019,51,1:8
Image formation of brain function in patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis treated with moxibustion显示文摘OBJECTIVES:Functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI) technology was used to study changes to the resting state blood flow in the brains of patients with knee osteoarthritis(KOA) before and after treatment with moxibustion at the acupoint of the left Dubi(ST 35) and to probe the cerebral mechanism underlying the effect of moxibustion.METHODS:The resting state brain function of 30 patients with left KOA was scanned with fMRI before and after treatment with moxibustion. The analytic methods of fractional amplitude of low frequency fluctuation(fALFF) and regional homogeneity(ReHo) were used to observe changes in resting state brain function.RESULTS:The fALFF values of the right cerebrum,extra-nucleus,left cerebellum, left cerebrum and white matter of patients after moxibustion treatment were higher than before treatment, and the fALFF values of the precentral gyrus, frontal lobe and occipital lobe were lower than before treatment(P<0.05,K≥85).The ReHo values of the thalamus,extra-nucleus and parietal lobe of patients were much higher than those before moxibustion treatment, and the ReHo values of the right cerebrum, left cerebrum and frontal lobe were lower than before treatment(P<0.05,K≥85).CONCLUSION:The influence of moxibustion on obvious changes in brain regions basically conforms to the way that pain and warmth is transmitted in the body, and the activation of sensitive systems in the body may be objective evidence of channel transmission. The regulation of brain function by moxibustion is not in a single brain region but rather in a network of many brain regions.Hongwu Xie Fangming Xu Rixin Chen Tianyou Luo Mingren Chen Weidong Fang Fajin Lü Fei Wu Yune Song Jun Xiong 2013Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2013,33,2:7
Coagulation factors VII, IX and X are effective antibacterial proteins against drug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria显示文摘Infections caused by drug-resistant“superbugs”pose an urgent public health threat due to the lack of effective drugs;however, certain mammalian proteins with intrinsic antibacterial activity might be underappreciated. Here, we reveal an antibacterial property against Gram-negative bacteria for factors VII, IX and X, three proteins with well-established roles in initiation of the coagulation cascade. These factors exert antibacterial function via their light chains (LCs). Unlike many antibacterial agents that target cell metabolism or the cytoplasmic membrane, the LCs act by hydrolyzing the major components of bacterial outer membrane, lipopolysaccharides, which are crucial for the survival of Gram-negative bacteria. The LC of factor VII exhibits in vitro efficacy towards all Gram-negative bacteria tested, including extensively drug-resistant (XDR) pathogens, at nanomolar concentrations. It is also highly effective in combating XDR Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii infections in vivo. Through decoding a unique mechanism whereby factors VII, IX and X behave as antimicrobial proteins, this study advances our understanding of the coagulation system in host defense, and suggests that these factors may participate in the pathogenesis of coagulation disorder-related diseases such as sepsis via their dual functions in blood coagulation and resistance to infection. Furthermore, this study may offer new strategies for combating Gram-negative “superbugs”.Jinwu Chen Xiaojie Li Ling Li Ting Zhang Qing Zhang Fangming Wu Diyue Wang Hongze Hu Changlin Tian Dongsheng Liao Liang Zhao Danxia Song Yongyun Zhao Chuanfang Wu Xu Song 2019Cell Research2019,29,9:6
A review on SRAM-based computing in-memory:Circuits,functions,and applications显示文摘Artificial intelligence(AI)processes data-centric applications with minimal effort. However,it poses new challenges to system design in terms of computational speed and energy efficiency. The traditional von Neumann architecture cannot meet the requirements of heavily datacentric applications due to the separation of computation and storage. The emergence of computing inmemory(CIM)is significant in circumventing the von Neumann bottleneck.A commercialized memory architecture, static random-access memory(SRAM),is fast and robust, consumes less power, and is compatible with state-of-the-art technology. This study investigates the research progress of SRAM-based CIM technology in three levels:circuit, function, and application. It also outlines the problems, challenges, and prospects of SRAM-based CIM macros.Zhiting Lin Zhongzhen Tong Jin Zhang Fangming Wang Tian Xu Yue Zhao Xiulong Wu Chunyu Peng Wenjuan Lu Qiang Zhao Junning Chen 2022Journal of Semiconductors2022,43,3:2

Improved two-step hydrothermal process for acetic acid production from carbohydrate biomass显示文摘An improved two-step process for converting carbohydrate biomass to acetic acid under hydrothermal conditions is proposed. The first step consists of the production of lactic acid from carbohydrate biomass, and the second step consists of conversion of the lactic acid obtained in the first step to acetic acid using CuO as an oxidant. The results indicated that CuO as an oxidant in the second step can significantly improve the production of high-purity acetic acid from lactic acid, and the maximum yield of acetic acid was 61%, with a purity of 90%. The yield of acetic acid obtained using the improved two-step hydrothermal process from carbohydrate biomass, such as glucose, cellulose and starch, was greater than that obtained using traditional two-step process with H2O2 orO2. In addition, a proposed pathway for the production of acetic acid from lactic acid in the second step with CuO was also discussed. The present study provides a useful two-step process for the production of acetic acid from carbohydrate biomass.Zhibao Huo Yan Fang Guodong Yao Xu Zeng Dezhang Ren Fangming Jin 2015Journal of Energy Chemistry2015,24,2:1
Memory access integrity:detecting fine-grained memory access errors in binary code显示文摘As one of the most notorious programming errors, memory access errors still hurt modern software security.Particularly, they are hidden deeply in important software systems written in memory unsafe languages like C/C++.Plenty of work have been proposed to detect bugs leading to memory access errors. However, all existing works lack the ability to handle two challenges.First, they are not able to tackle fine-grained memory access errors,e.g.,data overflow inside one data structure. These errors are usually overlooked for a long time since they happen inside one memory block and do not lead to program crash.Second, most existing works rely on source code or debugging information to recover memory boundary information,so they cannot be directly applied to detection of memory access errors in binary code. However, searching memory access errors in binary code is a very common scenario in software vulnerability detection and exploitation. In order to overcome these challenges,we propose Memory Access Integrity(MAI),a dynamic method to detect finegrained memory access errors in off-the-shelf binary executables. The core idea is to recover fine-grained accessing policy between memory access behaviors and memory ranges, and then detect memory access errors based on the policy. The key insight in our work is that memory accessing patterns reveal information for recovering the boundary of memory objects and the accessing policy.Based on these recovered information, our method maintains a new memory model to simulate the life cycle of memory objects and report errors when any accessing policy is violated. We evaluate our tool on popular CTF datasets and real world softwares.Compared with the state of the art detection tool, the evaluation result demonstrates that our tool can detect fine-grained memory access errors effectively and efficiently. As the practical impact, our tool has detected three 0-day memory access errors in an audio decoder.Wenjie Li Dongpeng Xu WeiWu Xiaorui Gong Xiaobo Xiang Yan Wang Fangming gu Qianxiang Zeng 2019Cybersecurity2019,2,1:1

Anionic formulation of electrolyte additive towards stable electrocatalytic oxygen evolution in seawater splitting显示文摘Hydrogen generation through seawater electrolysis provides a promising, attractive pathway towards the utilization of sustainable energy. However, the catalytic activity and stability of oxygen evolution anode are severely limited by the chloride-induced corrosion and competitive oxidation reactions. In this work,we demonstrate an anion-assisted performance improvement strategy by quick and universal screening of electrolyte additive via correlating Cl-repellency with the anionic properties.Particularly, the addition of phosphate ions is found to enable highly stable alkaline seawater splitting at industry-level current density(0.5 A cm^(-2))over 500 h using transition metal hydroxides as anodic electrocatalysts. In situ experiments and theoretical simulations further reveal that the dynamic anti-corrosion behaviors of surface-adsorbed phosphate ions are attributed to three factors including repelling Cl-ions without significantly blocking OH-diffusion,preventing transition metal dissolution and acting as a local pH buffer to compensate the fast OH-consumption under high current electrolysis.Meng Yu Jinhan Li Fangming Liu Jiuding Liu Wence Xu Honglu Hu Xijie Chen Weichao Wang Fangyi Cheng 2022Journal of Energy Chemistry2022,31,9:1
Exogenously applied oxalic acid assists in the phytoremediation of Mn by Polygonum pubescens Blume cultivated in three Mn-contaminated soils显示文摘The current study evaluated the effects of oxalic acid(OA)application on the growth and Mn phytoremediation efficiency of Polygonum pubescens Blume cultivated in three different manganese(Mn)-contaminated soils sampled from an unexplored area(US),an explored area(ES)and a tailing area(TS)of the Ertang Mn mine,South China. The supplied levels of OA were 0(control),1(low level),3(medium level),and 9(high level)mmol/kg,referred to as CK,OA1,OA3 and OA9,respectively.The results revealed that the average water-extractable Mn concentrations US,ES and TS amended with OA increased by 214.13,363.77 and 266.85%,respectively.All OA supply levels increased plant growth and Mn concentrations in US.The low OA supply level increased plant growth in ES and TS;however, contrasting results were found for the medium and high OA supply levels.Plant Mn concentrations and total Mn increased in ES and TS in response to all OA supply levels.Total Mn in the aerial parts increased by 81.18,44.17 and 83.17%in US,ES and TS,respectively;the corresponding percentages for the whole plants were 81.53,108.98 and 77.91%,respectively.The rate of·O_(2)^(−)production and malondialdehyde(MDA)concentrations increased in response to OA amendment, especially the medium and high OA supply levels in ES and TS.In general, antioxidant enzymes might play a vital role in alleviating Mn stress in plants cultivated in US,while non-enzymatic antioxidants might be the main factor for plants cultivated in ES and TS.Kehui Liu Jie Xu Chenglong Dai Chunming Li Yi Li Jiangming Ma Fangming Yu 2021Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2021,15,5:1

Over 50,000 Metagenomically Assembled Draft Genomes for the Human Oral Microbiome Reveal New Taxa显示文摘The oral cavity of each person is home to hundreds of bacterial species. While taxa for oral diseases have been studied using culture-based characterization as well as amplicon sequencing, metagenomic and genomic information remains scarce compared to the fecal microbiome. Here, using metagenomic shotgun data for 3346 oral metagenomic samples together with 808 published samples,we obtain 56,213 metagenome-assembled genomes(MAGs),and more than 64%of the 3589 species-level genome bins(SGBs)contain no publicly available genomes. The resulting genome collection is representative of samples around the world and contains many genomes from candidate phyla radiation(CPR)that lack monoculture. Also,it enables the discovery of new taxa such as a genus Candidatus Bgiplasma within the family Acholeplasmataceae.Large-scale metagenomic data from massive samples also allow the assembly of strains from important oral taxa such as Porphyromonas and Neisseria. The oral microbes encode genes that could potentially metabolize drugs.Apart from these findings,a strongly male-enriched Campylobacter species was identified.Oral samples would be more user-friendly collected than fecal samples and have the potential for disease diagnosis. Thus, these data lay down a genomic framework for future inquiries of the human oral microbiome.Jie Zhu Liu Tian Peishan Chen Mo Han Liju Song Xin Tong Xiaohuan Sun Fangming Yang Zhipeng Lin Xing Liu Chuan Liu Xiaohan Wang Yuxiang Lin Kaiye Cai Yong Hou Xun Xu Huanming Yang Jian Wang Karsten Kristiansen Liang Xiao Tao Zhang Huijue Jia Zhuye Jie 2022Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2022,20,2:1

The enhanced genomic 6mA metabolism contributes to the proliferation and migration of TSCC cells显示文摘In contrast to the well-established genomic 5-methylcytosine(5mC),the existence of N^(6)-methyladenine(6 mA)in eukaryotic genomes was discovered only recently.Initial studies found that it was actively regulated in cancer cells, suggesting its involvement in the process of carcinogenesis. However, the contribution of 6 mA in tongue squamous cell carcinoma(TSCC)still remains uncharacterized. In this study,a pan-cancer type analysis was first performed, which revealed enhanced 6mA metabolism in diverse cancer types. The study was then focused on the regulation of 6 mA metabolism,as well as its effects on TSCC cells. To these aspects, genome 6mA level was found greatly increased in TSCC tissues and cultured cells.By knocking down 6mA methylases N6AMT1 and METTL4,the level of genomic 6mA was decreased in TSCC cells. This led to suppressed colony formation and cell migration.By contrast, knockdown of 6mA demethylase ALKBH1 resulted in an increased 6 mA level, enhanced colony formation, and cell migration.Further study suggested that regulation of the NF-κB pathway might contribute to the enhanced migration of TSCC cells. Therefore,in the case of TSCC,we have shown that genomic 6mA modification is involved in the proliferation and migration of cancer cells.Lei Xi Ying Yang Ying Xu Fangming Zhang Jinghui Li Xiyang Liu Zhenxi Zhang Quan Du 2022International Journal of Oral Science2022,14,1:0
Ni_(3)S_(2)@NiFePx electrode with dual-anion-modulated layer for efficient and stable oxygen evolution显示文摘The rational construction of high-performance and stable electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction(OER)is a prerequisite for efficient water electrolysis.Herein,we develop a broccoli-like Ni_(3)S_(2)@NiFeP_(x)(Ni_(3)S_(2)@NFP)catalyst on nickel foam(NF)via a sequential two-step layer-by-layer assembly electrodeposition method.X-ray diffraction,in situ Raman and Fourier-transform infrared spectra have mutually validated the element segregation and phase refusion during OER condition. The reconstruction of double layer Ni_(3)S_(2)@NFP facilitates the formation of the active(oxy)hydroxides, which is modulated by the dual anionic layer with mixed sulfate and phosphate ions.As a result, the obtained Ni_(3)S_(2)@NFP electrode exhibits low overpotential(329 mV)and long-term durability(∼500 h)for OER at current density of 500mA/cm^(2).Moreover,the self-supported Ni_(3)S_(2)@NFP can act as an efficient and durable anode in alkaline anion exchange membrane water electrolysis device(AEMWE).This work provides a facile and scaled-up strategy to construct self-supported electrocatalyst and emphasizes the crucial role of anions in pre-catalyst reconstruction and enhancing OER performance.Xijie Chen Keqiang Xu Jinhan Li Xiao Wang Tete Zhao Fangming Liu Meng Yu Fangyi Cheng 2023Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,11:0
Numerical modeling and performance evaluation of passive convergence-permeable reactive barrier(PC-PRB)显示文摘The passive convergence-permeable reactive barrier(PC-PRB)was proposed to address the limitations of traditional PRB configurations. To evaluate the hydraulic and pollutant removal performance of the PC-PRB system,we developed a simulation code named PRB-Trans.This code uses the two-dimensional(2D)finite element method to simulate groundwater flow and solute transport.Case studies demonstrate that PC-PRB technology is more efficient and cost-effective than continuous permeable reactive barrier(C-PRB)in treating the same contaminated plume.Implementation of PC-PRB technology results in a 33.3%and 72.7%reduction in PRB length(L_(PRB))and height(H_(PRB)),respectively,while increasing 2D horizontal and 2D vertical pollutant treatment efficiencies of PRB by 87.8%and 266.8%,respectively.In addition, the PC-PRB technology has the ability to homogenize the pollutant concentration and pollutant flux through the PRB system, which can mitigate the problems arising from uneven distribution of pollutants in the C-PRB to some extent. The L_(PRB)required for PC-PRB decreases as the water pipe length(L_(p))increases,while the H_(PRB)required initially decreases and then increases with increasing L_(p).The effect of passive well height(Hw)on H_(PRB)is not as significant as that of L_(p)on H_(PRB).Overall,PC-PRB presents a promising and advantageous PRB configuration in the effective treatment of various types of contaminated plumes.Kaixuan Zheng Dong Xie Yiqi Tan Zhenjiang Zhuo Tan Chen Hongtao Wang Ying Yuan Junlong Huang Tianwei Sun Fangming Xu Yuecen Dong Ximing Liang 2023Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2023,17,11:0
