| 2 | Colorectal cancer burden and trends:Comparison between China and major burden countries in the world显示文摘Objective:To summarize the colorectal cancer(CRC)burden and trend in the world,and compare the difference of CRC burden between other countries and China.Methods:Incidence and mortality data were extracted from the GLOBOCAN2018 and Cancer Incidence in Five Continents.Age-specific incidence trend was conducted by Joinpoint analysis and average annual percent changes were calculated.Results:About 1.85 million new cases and 0.88 million deaths were expected in 2018 worldwide,including 0.52 million(28.20%)new cases and 0.25 million(28.11%)deaths in China.Hungary had the highest age-standardized incidence and mortality rates in the world,while for China,the incidence and mortality rates were only half of that.CRC incidence and mortality were highly correlated with human development index(HDI).Unlike the rapid increase in Republic of Korea and the downward trend in Canada and Australia,the age-standardized incidence rates by world standard population in China and Norway were rising gradually.The age-specific incidence rate in the age group of 50-59 years in China was increasing rapidly,while in Republic of Korea and Canada,the fastest growing age group was 30-39 years.Conclusions:The variations of CRC burden reflect the difference of risk factors,as well as levels of HDI and screening(early detection activities).The burden of CRC in China is high,and the incidence of CRC continues to increase,which may lead to a sustained increase in the burden of CRC in China in the future.Screening should be expanded to control CRC,and focused on young people in China. | Jiachen Zhou Rongshou Zheng Siwei Zhang Hongmei Zeng Shaoming Wang Ru Chen Kexin Sun Minjuan Li Jianhua Gu Guihua Zhuang Wenqiang Wei | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2021,33,1: | 16 |
| 3 | Total mesopancreas excision for pancreatic head cancer: analysis of 120 cases显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and safety of total mesopancreas excision(TMpE) in the treatment of pancreatic head cancer. Methods: The clinical and pathological data of 120 patients with pancreatic head cancer who had undergone TMpE in our center from May 2010 to January 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The mean operative time was(275.0±50.2) min and the average intra-operative blood loss was(390.0±160.5) mL. Post-operative complications were reported in 45 patients, while no peri-operative death was noted. The specimen margins were measured in three dimensions, and 86 patients(71.6%) achieved R0 resection. | 4 | Brassinosteroids function in spikelet differentiation and degeneration in rice显示文摘Brassinosteroids(BRs) play crucial roles in many aspects of plant development. However, their function in spikelet differentiation and degeneration in rice(Oryza sativa L.) remains unclear. Here, we investigated the roles of these phytohormones in spikelet development in fieldgrown rice subjected to five different nitrogen(N)fertilization treatments during panicle differentiation. BR levels and expression of genes involved in BR biosynthesis and signal transduction were measured in spikelets. Pollen fertility and the number of differentiated spikelets were closely associated with 24-epicastasterone(24-epiCS) and 28-homobrassinolide(28-homoBL) levels in spikelets.Enhanced BR biosynthesis and signal transduction, in response to N treatment, enhanced spikelet differentiation, reduced spikelet degeneration, and increased grain yield. Increases in proton-pumping ATPase activity, ATPconcentration, energy charge, and antioxidant system(AOS) levels were consistent with 24-epiCS and28-homoBL concentrations. Exogenous application of 24-epiCS or 28-homoBL on young panicles induced a marked increase in endogenous 24-epiCS or 28-homoBL levels, energy charge, AOS levels, spikelet differentiation, and panicle weight. The opposite effects were observed following treatment with a BR biosynthesis inhibitor. | 5 | Power electronic transformer with adaptive PLL technique for voltage-disturbance ride through显示文摘The power electronic transformer(PET) has recently emerged as a type of power converter. It features the basic functions of power conversion and isolation as well as additional functions related to power quality control. A novel PET for a distribution grid called a flexible power distribution unit is proposed in this paper, and the energy exchange mechanism between the network and the load is revealed. A 30 kW 600 VAC/220 VAC/110 VDC medium-frequency isolated prototype is developed and demonstrated. This paper also presents key control strategies of the PET for electrical distribution grid applications,especially under grid voltage disturbance conditions.Moreover, stability issues related to the grid-connected three-phase PET are discussed and verified with an impedance-based analysis. The PET prototype is tested, and it passes the voltage-disturbance ride-through function. | 7 | The heterogeneity of islet autoantibodies and the progression of islet failure in type 1 diabetic patients显示文摘Type 1 diabetes mellitus is heterogeneous in many facets. The patients suffered from type 1 diabetes present several levels of islet function as well as variable number and type of islet-specific autoantibodies. This study was to investigate prevalence and heterogeneity of the islet autoantibodies and clinical phenotypes of type 1 diabetes mellitus; and also discussed the process of islet failure and its risk factors in Chinese type 1 diabetic patients. A total of 1,291 type 1 diabetic patients were enrolled in this study. Demographic information was collected. Laboratory tests including mixed-meal tolerance test, human leukocyte antigen alleles, hemoglobin A1 c, lipids, thyroid function and islet autoantibodies were conducted. The frequency of islet-specific autoantibody in newly diagnosed T1 DM patients(duration shorter than half year) was 73% in East China. According to binary logistic regressions, autoantibody positivity, longer duration and lower Body Mass Index were the risk factors of islet failure. As the disease developed, autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase declined as well as the other two autoantibodies against zinc transporter 8 and islet antigen 2. The decrease of autoantibodies was positively correlated with aggressive beta cell destruction. Autoantibodies can facilitate the identification of classic T1 DM from other subtypes and predict the progression of islet failure. | 9 | Signatures within esophageal microbiota with progression of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma显示文摘Objective: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC) is one of the dominant malignances worldwide, but currently there is less focus on the microbiota with ESCC and its precancerous lesions.Methods: Paired esophageal biopsy and swab specimens were obtained from 236 participants in Linzhou, China.Data from 16 S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing were processed using quantitative insights into microbial ecology(QIIME2) and R Studio to evaluate differences. The Wilcoxon rank sum test and Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test were used to compare diversity and characteristic genera by specimens and participant groups. Ordinal logistic regression model was used to build microbiol prediction model.Results: Microbial diversity was similar between biopsy and swab specimens, including operational taxonomic unit(OTU) numbers and Shannon index. There were variations and similarities of esophageal microbiota among different pathological characteristics of ESCC. Top 10 relative abundance genera in all groups include Streptococcus, Prevotella, Veillonella, Actinobacillus, Haemophilus, Neisseria, Alloprevotella, Rothia, Gemella and Porphyromonas. Genus Streptococcus, Haemophilus, Neisseria and Porphyromonas showed significantly difference in disease groups when compared to normal control, whereas Streptococcus showed an increasing tendency with the progression of ESCC and others showed a decreasing tendency. About models based on all combinations of characteristic genera, only taken Streptococcus and Neisseria into model, the prediction performance was the ideal one, of which the area under the curve(AUC) was 0.738.Conclusions: Esophageal biopsy and swab specimens could yield similar microbial characterization. | 10 | A simple model of radial nerve injury in the rhesus monkey to evaluate peripheral nerve repair显示文摘Current research on bone marrow stem cell transplantation and autologous or xenogenic nerve transplantation for peripheral nerve regeneration has mainly focused on the repair of peripheral nerve defects in rodents.In this study,we established a standardized experimental model of radial nerve defects in primates and evaluated the effect of repair on peripheral nerve injury.We repaired 2.5-cm lesions in the radial nerve of rhesus monkeys by transplantation of autografts,acellular allografts,or acellular allografts seeded with autologous bone marrow stem cells.Five months after surgery,regenerated nerve tissue was assessed for function,electrophysiology,and histomorphometry.Postoperative functional recovery was evaluated by the wrist-extension test.Compared with the simple autografts,the acellular allografts and allografts seeded with bone marrow stem cells facilitated remarkable recovery of the wrist-extension functions in the rhesus monkeys.This functional improvement was coupled with radial nerve distal axon growth,a higher percentage of neuron survival,increased nerve fiber density and diameter,increased myelin sheath thickness,and increased nerve conduction velocities and peak amplitudes of compound motor action potentials.Furthermore,the quality of nerve regeneration in the bone marrow stem cells-laden allografts group was comparable to that achieved with autografts.The wrist-extension test is a simple behavioral method for objective quantification of peripheral nerve regeneration. | Dong Wang Xijun Huang Guo Fu Liqiang Gu Xiaolin Liu Honggang Wang Jun Hu Jianhua Yi Xiaofeng Niu Qingtang Zhu | 2014 | Neural Regeneration Research2014,9,10: | 3 |
| 11 | Dosimetric parameters of palladium-103 brachytherapy source with Monte Carlo simulation显示文摘Before clinical application of a new source, the dosimetric parameters of the source should be accu- rately determined. This work is dedicated to the Monte Carlo method to calculate dosimetric parameters as recommended by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) TG-43 guidelines for model ADVANTAGETM palladium-103 source and, through comparison with data from another published report for the same source, presents a suggested dataset for clinical applications. From these calcula- tions, tables are presented for the radial dose function and the anisotropy function of palladium-103 brachytherapy source. The dose rate constants are found to be 0.671 (cGyh-1U-1) in liquid water and 0.673 (cGyh-1U-1) in Solid WaterTM. And the anisotropy constants in liquid water and Solid WaterTM are found to be 0.864 and 0.865 respectively. Comparison with the previous study shows that our results of dosimetric parameters are in good agreement with those measured and calculated by Meigooni et al. | 12 | QTL analysis across multiple environments reveals promising chromosome regions associated with yield-related traits in maize under drought conditions显示文摘Drought is one of the most critical abiotic stresses influencing maize yield. Improving maize cultivars with drought tolerance using marker-assisted selection requires a better understanding of its genetic basis. In this study, a doubled haploid(DH) population consisting of 217 lines was created by crossing the inbred lines Han 21(drought-tolerant) and Ye 478(drought-sensitive). The population was genotyped with a 6 K SNP assay and 756 SNP(single nucleotide polymorphism) markers were used to construct a linkage map with a length of 1344 c M. Grain yield(GY), ear setting percentage(ESP), and anthesis–silking interval(ASI) were recorded in seven environments under well-watered(WW) and water-stressed(WS) regimes. High phenotypic variation was observed for all traits under both water regimes. Using the LSMEAN(least-squares mean) values from all environments for each trait, 18 QTL were detected, with 9 associated with the WW and 9 with the WS regime. Four chromosome regions,Chr. 3: 219.8–223.7 Mb, Chr. 5: 191.5–194.7 Mb, Chr. 7: 132.2–135.6 Mb, and Chr. 10: 88.2–89.4 Mb, harbored at least 2 QTL in each region, and QTL co-located in a region inherited favorable alleles from the same parent. A set of 64 drought-tolerant BC_3F_6 lines showed preferential accumulation of the favorable alleles in these four regions, supporting an association between the four regions and maize drought tolerance. QTL-by-environment interaction analysis revealed 28 ed QTL(environment-dependent QTL) associated with the WS regime and 22 associated with the WW regime for GY, ESP, and ASI. All WS QTL and55.6% of WW QTL were located in the ed QTL regions. | 13 | DNA damage repair promotion in colonic epithelial cells by andrographolide downregulated cGAS-STING pathway activation and contributed to the relief of CPT-11-induced intestinal mucositis显示文摘Gastrointestinal mucositis is one of the most debilitating side effects of the chemotherapeutic agent irinotecan(CPT-11). Andrographolide, a natural bicyclic diterpenoid lactone, has been reported to possess anti-colitis activity. In this study, andrographolide treatment was found to significantly relieve CPT-11-induced colitis in tumor-bearing mice without decreasing the tumor suppression effect of CPT-11. CPT-11 causes DNA damage and the release of double-stranded DNA(ds DNA) from the intestine, leading to cyclic-GMP-AMP synthase(c GAS)-stimulator of interferon genes(STING)-mediated colitis, which was significantly decreased by andrographolide both in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistic studies revealed that andrographolide could promote homologous recombination(HR) repair and downregulate ds DNA-c GAS-STING signaling and contribute to the improvement of CPT-11-induced gastrointestinal mucositis. | 15 | Biochar amendments increase soil organic carbon storage and decrease global warming potentials of soil CH4 and N2O under N addition in a subtropical Moso bamboo plantation显示文摘Background: Nitrogen(N) deposition affects soil greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions, while biochar application reduces GHG emissions in agricultural soils. However, it remains unclear whether biochar amendment can alleviate the promoting effects of N input on GHG emissions in forest soils. Here, we quantify the separate and combined effects of biochar amendment(0, 20, and 40 t·ha) and N addition(0, 30, 60, and 90 kg N·ha·yr) on soil GHG fluxes in a long-term field experiment at a Moso bamboo(Phyllostachys edulis) plantation.Results: Low and moderate N inputs(≤60 kg N·ha·yr) significantly increase mean annual soil carbon dioxide(CO) and nitrous oxide(NO) emissions by 17.0%–25.4% and 29.8%–31.2%, respectively, while decreasing methane(CH) uptake by 12.4%–15.9%, leading to increases in the global warming potential(GWP) of soil CHand NO fluxes by 32.4%–44.0%. Moreover, N addition reduces soil organic carbon(C;SOC) storage by 0.2%–6.5%. Compared to the control treatment, biochar amendment increases mean annual soil CO2emissions, CHuptake, and SOC storage by 18.4%–25.4%, 7.6%–15.8%, and 7.1%–13.4%, respectively, while decreasing NO emissions by 17.6%–19.2%, leading to a GWP decrease of 18.4%–21.4%. Biochar amendments significantly enhance the promoting effects of N addition on soil COemissions, while substantially offsetting the promotion of N2O emissions, inhibition of CHuptake, and decreased SOC storage, resulting in a GWP decrease of 9.1%–30.3%.Additionally, soil COand CHfluxes are significantly and positively correlated with soil microbial biomass C(MBC) and pH. | 20 | A spontaneous thermo-sensitive female sterility mutation in rice enables fully mechanized hybrid breeding显示文摘Male sterility enables hybrid crop breeding to increase yields and has been extensively studied. But thermo-sensitive female sterility, which is an ideal property that may enable full mechanization in hybrid rice breeding, has rarely been investigated due to the absence of such germplasm. Here we identify the spontaneous thermo-sensitive female sterility 1 (tfs1) mutation that confers complete sterility under regular/high temperature and partial fertility under low temperature as a point mutation in ARGONAUTE7 (AGO7). AGO7 associates with miR390 to form an RNA-Induced Silencing Complex (RISC), which triggers the biogenesis of small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) from TRANS-ACTING3 (TAS3) loci by recruiting SUPPRESSOR OF GENE SILENCING (SGS3) and RNA-DEPENDENT RNA POLYMERASE6 (RDR6) to TAS3 transcripts. These siRNAs are known as tasiR-ARFs as they act in trans to repress auxin response factor genes. The mutant TFS1 (mTFS1) protein is compromised in its ability to load the miR390/miR390* duplex and eject miR390* during RISC formation. Furthermore, tasiR-ARF levels are reduced in tfs1 due to the deficiency in RDR6 but not SGS3 recruitment by mTFS1 RISC under regular/high temperature, while low temperature partially restores mTFS1 function in RDR6 recruitment and tasiR-ARF biogenesis. A miR390 mutant also exhibits female sterility, suggesting that female fertility is controlled by the miR390-AGO7 module. Notably, the tfs1 allele introduced into various elite rice cultivars endows thermo-sensitive female sterility.
