| 1 | Type 2 diabetes mellitus and CA 19-9 levels显示文摘AIM:To prospectively investigate serum CA 19-9 levels in type 2 diabetic patients in comparison with age-and gender-matched control subjects. METHODS:We recorded duration of diabetes and examined fasting glucose levels,HbA1c levels and serum CA 19-9 levels in 76 type 2 diabetic patients and 76 controls.Abdominal CT was performed in order to eliminate abdominal malignancy in the diabetic and control groups. RESULTS:The average CA 19-9 level was 46.0±22.4 U/mL for diabetic patients whereas it was 9.97±7.1 U/mL for the control group(P<0.001).Regression analysis showed a positive correlation between diabetes and CA 19-9 independent from age,gender,glucose level and HbA1c level(t=8.8,P<001).Two of the diabetic patients were excluded from the study because of abdominal malignancy shown by CT at the initial evaluation.For all patients,abdominal CT showed no pancreatic abnormalities. CONCLUSION:CA 19-9 is a tumor-associated antigen, which is elevated in pancreatic,upper gastrointestinal tract,ovarian hepatocellular,and colorectal cancers,as well as in inflammatory conditions of the hepatobiliary system,biliary obstruction and in thyroid diseases. Diabetes has been claimed to be a risk factor for pancreatic cancer,which is increasing its incidence and has one of the lowest survival rates of all cancers.CA 19-9 is used in the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer but is also a marker of pancreatic tissue damage that might be caused by diabetes.We propose that a higher cut- off value of CA 19-9 should be used in diabetics to differentiate benign and malignant pancreatic disease, and subtle elevations of CA 19-9 in diabetics should be considered as the indication of exocrine pancreatic dysfunction. | Oya Uygur-Bayramicli Resat Dabak Ekrem Orbay Can Dolapclo■lu Mehmet Sargin Gamze Kilico■lu Yüksel Güleryüzlü Alpaslan Mayada■li | 2007 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2007，13，40： | 63 |

This systematic review examines the published literature reporting hand bone mass in patients with RA, particularly those using the dual X-ray absorptiometry(DXA) methods The majority of the studies reported that hand bone loss is associated with disease activity, functional statusand radiological progression in early RA. | 3 | Interaction between seed size and NaCl on germination and early seedling growth of some Turkish cultivars of chickpea(Cicer arietinum L.)显示文摘Chickpea is an important food legume crop of Turkey and is largely grown for human consumption on low moisture or salt-affected soils. The objective of the study was to find the effects of NaCl stress at electrical conductivities of 4.5,8.6,12.7 and 16.3 dS/m and seed sizes(7,8 and 9 mm) on germination and early seedling growth of three popular chickpea cultivars(AKN-97,Gokce and Uzunlu-99). Mean frequency of germination,germination time,germination index,root length,shoot length and seedling fresh weight showed seed size-dependent responses of cultivars to salt stress. In general,small seeds germinated and grew more rapidly compared to medium and large seeds of the same cultivars against all levels of salt stress,with the best results in cultivar Uzunlu-99. No effect of NaCl treatments was observed on frequency of germination;however,a drastic decrease in early seedling growth was recorded at increased NaCl concentrations. Regression analysis results showed a significantly positive rela-tionship(P<0.01) between seed size and mean germination time,whereas a significantly negative relationship was recorded between seed size and germination index,root length,shoot length. Moreover,linear regression values apparently confirmed that increased seed size in each cultivar affected decreased germination index,root and shoot lengths with enhanced mean germination time. | 4 | Spontaneous calcaneal fracture in patients with diabetic foot ulcer: Four cases report and review of literature显示文摘Spontaneous calcaneal fractures in diabetic patients without obvious trauma may occur, sometimes accompanying diabetic foot ulcers. In the current study we report four cases who were hospitalized for diabetic foot ulcer with concomitant calcaneal fractures. There were four diabetic patients(one type 1 and three type 2) who registered with diabetic foot ulcers with coexisting calcaneal fractures, all of which were classified as Type A according to Essex Lopresti Calcaneal Fracture Classification. Two of the patients with renal failure were in a routine dialysis program, as well as vascular compromise and osteomyelitis in all of the patients. The diabetic foot ulcer of the 61 years old osteoporotic female patient healed with local debridement, vacuum assisted closure and then epidermal growth factor while the calcaneal fracture was then followed by elastic bandage. In two patients could not prevent progression of diabetic foot ulcers and calcaneal fractures to consequent below-knee amputation. The only patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus improved with antibiotic therapy and split thickness skin grafting, while the calcaneal fracture did not heal. In the current study we aimed to emphasize the spontaneous calcaneal fractures as possible co-existing pathologies in patients with diabetic foot ulcers. After all the medical treatment, amputation below knee had to be performed in 2 patients. Agardh (Chlorophyceae) Extract against Induction of Chromosome Aberration, Sister Chromatid Exchange and Micronuclei by Mutagenic Agent MMC显示文摘Objective To determine the in vitro possible clastogenic and cytotoxic activities of Ulva rigida crude extracts (URE), and identify their antigenotoxic and protective effects on chemotherapeutic agent mitomycine-C (MMC). Methods Anti-clastogenic and anti-genotoxic activities of Ulva rigida crude extracts (URE) were studied using chromosome aberration (CA), sister chromatid exchange (SCE), and micronuclei (MN) tests in human lymphocytes cultured in vitro. Results The chromosome aberration, sister chromatid exchange or micronuclei tests showed that URE at concentrations of 10, 20, and 40 μg/mL had no clastogenic activity in human lymphocyte cell culture. Three doses of URE significantly decreased the number of chromosomal aberrations and the frequencies of SCE and MN when compared with the culture treated with MMC (P<0.0001). | 11 | Protective effects of Rutin against methanol induced acute toxic optic neuropathy:an experimental study显示文摘AIM:To determine the effects of Rutin on methanol induced optic neuropathy and compare the results with the effects of ethanol.METHODS:Totally 30 rats were divided into 5 groups,with 6 rats in each group as follows:healthy controls(C),methotrexate(MTX),methotrexate+methanol(MTM),methotrexate+methanol+ethanol(MTME) and methotrexate+ methanol+Rutin(MTMR).In all rabbits except those of the control group,MTX,diluted in sterile serum physiologic,0.3 mg/kg per oral was applied for 7 d by the aid of a tube.After this procedure to the rats of MTM,MTME and MTMR groups,20% methanol with a dose of 3 g/kg per oral was given by the aid of a tube.In MTME group,4 h after the application of methanol,20% ethanol was applied by the same way with a dose of 0.5 g/kg.On the other hand,in MTMR group 4 h after the application of methanol,Rutin,which was dissolved in distilled water,was applied by the same way with a dose of 50 mg/kg.RESULTS:There were statistically significant differences in tissue 8-hydroxy-2 deoxyguanine(8-OHdG),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),malondialdehyde(MDA),myeloperoxidase(MPO).glutathione peroxidase(t GSH) and superoxide dismutase(SOD) levels between groups(P<0.001).In MTMR group tissue 8-OHdG,IL-1β,MDA,and MPO levels were similar with the healthy controls but significantly different than the other groups.In histopathological evaluations,in MTX group there was moderate focal destruction,hemorrhage and decrease innumber of astrocytes and oligodendrocytes;in MTM group there was severe destruction and edema with decrease in number of astrocytes and oligodendrocytes;in MTME group there was mild hemorrhage,mild edema,mildly dilated blood vessels with congestion while in MTMR group,optic nerve tissue was resembling the healthy controls.CONCLUSION:Rutin may prevent methanol-induced optic neuropathy via anti-inflammatory effects and decreasing the oxidative stress.New treatment options are warranted in this disease to avoid loss of vision in patients. | Nurdan Gamze Tasli Ferda Keskin Cimen Yücel Karakurt Turgay Ucak Renad Mammadov Bahadir Suleyman Nezahat Kurt Halis Suleyman | 2018 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2018，11，5： | 2 |

This change, known as ocean acidification, causes lower p H in seawater and may affect the physiology of seaweed species. Accordingly, the main goal of the current study was to determine the physiological responses of Bryopsis plumosa to elevated-CO2. The results indicated that photosynthesis of B. plumosa was insignificantly affected to elevated-CO2, but photosynthetic pigment contents and phenolics were significantly decreased. The results obtained from the research reveal that B. plumosa may become physiologically advanced when exposed to CO2-induced ocean acidification.
