1Geochemical characteristics of pore water in shallow sediments from Shenhu area of South China Sea and their significance for gas hydrate occurrence显示文摘The Shenhu area is one of the promise target areas for marine gas hydrate exploration in the northern margin of the South China Sea.Pore water samples were collected from two piston cores (8.75 and 8.52 m) in site HS-A and site HS-B in the Shenhu area,and their major anion and cation contents and trace element contents have been analyzed in this study.Cl- concentrations in pore waters are similar to the seawater value and no systematic change along depth profiles has been found for the Cl- content in both sites.In site HS-A,the SO 2- 4 contents show a limited range in pore waters from 0 to 3 m depths,but a dramatic decrease is documented in depth below 3 m.Other elements such as Ca 2+,Mg 2+ and Sr 2+ show similar variation patterns as the SO 2- 4,i.e.,no variation in 0-3 m,but large decrease in depth below 3 m.In site HS-B,both the SO 4 and Ca 2+,Mg 2+ and Sr 2+ display a decrease pattern along the depth profile,but in 0-3 m the variation is less significant than those in depth below 3 m.In both sites HS-A and HS-B,I contents show a dramatic increase along depth profiles.Calculations show that the SMI depths are very shallow (10 and 11 m) in both sites,and the sulfate flux and I flux are very high.These geochemical characteristics and anomalies at Shenhu are quite similar to those found in other gas hydrate locations in the world,and a genetic link is suggested to be related to the gas hydrate occurrence at depths in the study area.In summary,we suggest that combined geochemical parameters in shallow sediment pore waters are useful indicators to indicate the gas hydrate occurrence at depths.YANG Tao JIANG ShaoYong GE Lu YANG JingHong WU NengYou ZHANG GuangXue LIU Jian 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,8:30
2Cadmium accumulation and tolerance of two castor cultivars in relation to antioxidant systems显示文摘To investigate the effects of Cd on tolerance and antioxidant activities of castor, two different castor(Ricinus communis L.) cultivars(Zibo No. 5 and Zibo No. 8) were used for a hydroponic experiment(0, 1 and 2 mg/L Cd) and a pot experiment using Cd-contaminated soil(34 mg/kg) with the addition of ethylenedinitrilotetraacetic acid(EDTA). The results indicated that there were significant differences between the two cultivars with respect to Cd uptake in shoots(113–248 mg/kg for Zibo No. 5 and 130–288 mg/kg Zibo No. 8), biomass tolerance indexes(64.9%–74.6% for Zibo No. 5 and 80.1%–90.9% for Zibo No. 8) in the hydroponic experiment and survival rates(0% for Zibo No. 5 and 100% for Zibo No. 8)determined by the addition of EDTA in the pot experiment, suggesting that Zibo No. 8 has higher tolerance than Zibo No. 5. Moreover, the castor cultivars have low bioconcentration factors(4.80% for Zibo No. 5 and 5.43% for Zibo No. 8) and low translocation factors(<1%).Consequently, Zibo No. 8 can participate in Cd phytostabilization in highly Cd-polluted areas. The results indicated that glutathione(GSH) as a non-enzymatic antioxidant, and antioxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase(SOD), catalase(CAT) and guaiacol peroxidase(GPX), were cultivar- and dose-dependent. 3Geochemistry of pore waters from HQ-1PC of the Qiongdongnan Basin, northern South China Sea, and its implications for gas hydrate exploration显示文摘The Qiongdongnan Basin is one of the target areas for marine gas hydrate exploration in the northern margin of the South China Sea. In this study, major anion (e.g., SO42 , Cl, Br, I), cation (e.g., Ca, Mg, K, Na), and trace element (e.g., Sr, Ba) con- centrations of pore water samples collected from site HQ-1PC in the Qiongdongnan Basin were analyzed. These geochemical data suggest that the process of AOM (Anaerobic Oxidation of Methane) is dominant in sulfate-reduction zone in this site due to high upwelling iodine flux and strong microbial activities. The iodine-rich fluids, which may carry methane for the gas hydrate formation, pass through the gas hydrate stability zone, mix with brine released during gas hydrate formation, and cause the geochemical anomalies observed at site HQ-1PC. 4Glycerol ether biomarkers and their carbon isotopic compositions in a cold seep carbonate chimney from the Shenhu area, northern South China Sea显示文摘At modern cold seeps,the anaerobic oxidation of methane(AOM)is the dominant pathway for methane consumption in marine sediments.AOM,which is mediated by a consortium of methane oxidizing archaea and sulfate reducing bacteria,is proposed to be responsible for authigenic carbonate formation.A methane-derived carbonate chimney was collected from the Shenhu area, northern South China Sea.The membrane lipids and their very low carbon isotopic compositions(?115‰to?104‰)in the Shenhu chimney suggest the presence of an AOM process.Three specific archaeal and bacterial biomarkers were detected,including Ar,DAGE 1f,and monocyclic MDGD.Their strongly depleted??13C values(?115‰to?104‰),which are lower than those of the normal marine lipids in sediments,reveal biogenic methane as their origin.The carbonate deposits exhibiting a chimney structure indicate that a vigorous methane-rich fluid expulsion may have occurred at the seafloor.We propose that the decomposition of gas hydrates at depth is the likely cause of seepage and cold seep carbonate formation in the Shenhu area.GE Lu JIANG ShaoYong YANG Tao YANG JingHong WU NengYou ZHANG GuangXue LIU Jian 2011Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,16:12
5Controlling factors for gas hydrate occurrence in Shenhu area on the northern slope of the South China Sea显示文摘Temperature and pressure on seafloor of the northern slope in the South China Sea are suitable for gas hydrate formation, but bottom simulation reflector (BSR), an indication of gas hydrate occurrence, only occurred in limited areas of the slope. Drillings in the BSR-distributed area (the District S) on the northern slope of the South China Sea suggested that gas hydrate only occurred at Sites SH2, SH3, and SH7 with high saturation (up to 20%-40%), and there is no hydrate at Sites SH1 and SH5 although the distance between SH1 to SH3 is only 500m. In this paper, we investigated seafloor gradient, fault development, temperature, and pressure in the District S on the northern slope of the South China Sea to understand the possible factors con- trolling BSR distribution and gas hydrate occurrence. The District S is a structurally fractured continental slope zone and its seafloor gradient varied greatly. The BSR-occurred areas have an average gradient of 19.89×10 2 whereas the BSR-free zone has the average gradient of 10.57×10 2 . The calculated relative structural intensities from fault densities and displacements show that the BSR-distributed areas tend to occur in the areas with a moderately high structural intensity, where faults frequently developed close to the seafloor that are possibly favored for lateral migration of gases. On the basis of temperatures and pressures at drilling sites, hydrate-occurred Sites SH2, SH3, and SH7 are located within the thermodynamically stable area for methane hydrate, and hydrate-absent Sites SH1 and SH5 are out of the thermodynamically stable area for methane hydrate formation, suggesting that both BSR and the thermodynamic stability are necessary for hydrate occurrence in the subsurface.WANG HongBin YANG ShengXiong WU NengYou ZHANG GuangXue LIANG JinQiang CHEN DuoFu 2013Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,4:10
6Seismic Characteristics and Development Patterns of Miocene Carbonate Platform in the Beikang Basin,Southern South China Sea显示文摘The Beikang Basin is located in the southern part of the South China Sea(SCS),which is one of most tectonically complex sea areas.It is a deepwater sedimentary basin that was mainly deposited during the Cenozoic era.Owing to data restrictions,the research on carbonate platforms of this area is still in its infancy.High-resolution seismic data are analyzed to identify the Miocene carbonate platforms and reconstruct the architecture and growth history.The carbonate platforms of Beikang Basin began to develop in the Late Oligocene-Early Miocene,were extended in the Middle Miocene,and declined in the Late Miocene.The carbonate platform mainly developed during two periods:the Oligocene to the Early Miocene,and the Middle Miocene.The carbonate platforms that developed in the Middle Miocene were the most prosperous.The Middle Miocene carbonate platform in the Beikang Basin can be divided into three stages.In the first stage,the platforms had wide range which were thin.During the second stage,the platforms had a smaller range that was controlled by faults.In the third stage,the platforms were gradually submerged.The platform structure developed in the Middle Miocene at the Beikang Basin was controlled by the rate of rising/falling of the sea level and the carbonate growth rate.Based on an analysis of these changes and relationship,the platform can be divided into several patterns:retrogradation,submerged,aggradation,progradation,outward with up-stepping,outward with down-stepping,and down-stepping platforms.At the top of the carbonate platforms in the Beikang Basin a set of carbonate wings or mushrooms usually appeared.These were formed during a period of relative sea-level decline.It is believed that the Miocene carbonate platforms in the Beikang Basin are mainly controlled by tectonic and sedimentary environments,and are also affected by terrestrial detritus.YAN Wei ZHANG Guangxue XIA Bin ZHANG Li YANG Zhen LEI Zhenyu YAO Huiqiang 2020Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2020,94,5:5
7Methodology to Evaluate Fatigue Damage of High-Speed Train Welded Bogie Frames Based on On-Track Dynamic Stress Test Data显示文摘The current method of estimating the fatigue life of railway structures is to calculating the equivalent stress amplitude based on the measured stress data. However, the random of the measured data is not considered. In this paper, a new method was established to compute the equivalent stress amplitude to evaluate the fatigue damage based on the measurable randomness, since the equivalent stress is the key parameter for assessment of structure fatigue life and load derivation. The equivalent stress amplitude of a high-speed train welded bogie frame was found to obey normal distribution under uniform operation route that verified by on-track dynamic stress data, and the proposed model is, in effect, an improved version of the mathematical model used to calculate the equivalent stress amplitude. The data of a long-term, on-track dynamic stress test program was analyzed to find that the normal distribution parameters of equivalent stress amplitude values differ across different operation route. Thus, the fatigue damage of the high-speed train welded bogie frame can be evaluated by the proposed method if the running schedule of the train is known a priori. 8A geomorphological response of beaches to Typhoon Meari in the eastern Shandong Peninsula in China显示文摘Eight representative beach profiles on the eastern coast of the Shandong Peninsula are observed and measured in2011 and 2012 to determine the coastal processes under the lower tropical wind speed condition and the beach response to and recovery from the tropical storm Meari in a rare typhoon region. The results show that it is the enhancement and directional change of cross-shore and longshore sediment transports caused by Meari that leads to the beach morphological changes, and most of the sediment transports occur during the pre-Meari landing phase. The erosional scarp formation and the berm or beach face erosion are the main geomorphological responses of the beaches to the storm. The storm characteristics are more important than the beach shapes in the storm response process of the beaches on Shandong Peninsula. 9Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of cyclohexanone catalyzed by cordierite honeycomb washcoated with Mg–Sn–W composite oxides显示文摘In this work, a series of Mg–Sn–W oxide powder catalysts with different tungsten oxide contents(0, 15 wt% and 30 wt%) were prepared and washcoated on cordierite honeycomb monoliths to produce monolithic catalysts,which were tested for the Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of cyclohexanone. The obtained monolithic catalysts,which combined the advantages of both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, showed high catalytic efficiency and overcame the problems of product separation that occurred in the homogeneous catalytic process.SEM and EDX tests showed that the catalytic coating, with a thickness of approximately 20 μm, was compact and homogeneous, and an enlarged BET surface area was indicated by N_2 adsorption–desorption compared with the bare cordierite honeycomb. The chemical properties on the catalytic surface of the powder and monolithic catalysts were characterized by XPS, which indicated the tin and tungsten on the catalysts exhibited their full oxide states and presented mainly as stannate and tungstate, as confirmed by XRD and FTIR characterizations.Moreover, the catalytic activity test indicated that the tungsten content of the catalysts played an important role in catalytic efficiency and that monolithic catalysts were produced without obvious catalytic activity loss compared with the corresponding powders.(M)W30, which exhibited excellent mechanical stability and maintained high activity after recycling three times, was the optimal catalyst, showing a high selectivity that exceeded 86%and a conversion above 64%. 10Calculation of Maximum Allowable Free Span Length and Safety Assessment of the DF1-1 Submarine Pipeline显示文摘The DF1-1 submarine pipeline was investigated using a dual-frequency side-scan sonar and a swath sounder system.More than a hundred scour pits under the pipeline were found,most of which have caused the span of the pipeline to increase and threatened its safety.The maximum allowable free span length (MAFSL) of the pipeline was determined through the limitations regarding maximum allowable stress under static or quasi-static loads and the onset of Vortex Induced Vibrations (VIV) under different hydrodynamic actions.The results show that the MAFSL under static conditions is 56 m.However,the MAFSLs are 30 m and 20 m under ordinary weather conditions and hurricane-induced currents for the 100-year return period,respectively,to avoid VIV as calculated by using the highest safety class factor.It is suggested that spanning pipelines longer than 20 m should be supported.Additionally,eight successive spans which may also threaten the pipeline were proposed.The most hazardous scour pits are along the pipeline section from KP42 to KP51.XU Jishang LI Guangxue Juan J. 11Mouse Karyotype Obtained by Combining DAPI Staining with Image Analysis显示文摘In this study, mitotic metaphase chromosomes in mouse were identified by a new chromosome fluorescence banding technique combining DAPI staining with image analysis. Clear 4’, 6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) multiple bands like G-bands could be produced in mouse. The MetaMorph software was then used to generate linescans of pixel intensity for the banded chromosomes from short arm to long arm. These linescans were sufficient not only to identify each individual chromosome but also analyze the physical sites of bands in chromosome. Based on the results, the clear and accurate karyotype of mouse metaphase chromosomes was established. 13DAMAGE TOLERANCE ANALYSIS ON HOLLOW AXLES OF HIGH SPEED MOTOR TRAINS显示文摘According to the rules of UIC515-3,the service loads of the axles arc defined,which include some different loads cases as follows:the static loads;the impact loads resulted from running through the rail joints and unevenness rails;the loads through curves and fi'om braking.Through the calculating and analysis,the stress distribution of the hollow axles is obtained for 200 km/h high speed motor trains used in China.At the same time,the fatigue crack growth of hollow axles is studied,and the initial surface cracks of 2 mm depth caused by hard objects strike or the other causes are discussed.On the basis of the linear elastic fracture mechanics theory,the stress intensity factor of the crack of the geometry transition outside the wheel scat is also studied.Associated with fatigue crack propagation equation and the corresponding crack propagation threshold,the crack propagation characteristics under different shapes are calculated.Then the running distances arc educed with different shapes propagating to the critical length,and the estimation of the residual lives about hollow axles which are the reference values of examine and repair limit of the hollow axle is given.ZHOU Suxia XIE Jilong YANG Guangxue XIAO Nan 2008Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2008,21,5:2
14Temporal-Spatial Variation of Surface Suspended Matter and Controlling Factors in the Inner Shelf of the East China Sea in Winter显示文摘Based on the observed surface suspended matter in the East China Sea in February 2007 and June 2015, an empirical model was established using L1 b's band 4 data to retrieve surface suspended matter from the Moderate Resolution Imagine Spectroradiometer Terra imagery. The squared correlation coefficient is 0.8358, and the root mean square error is 0.4285 mg L-1. The model reflects the distribution characteristics of surface suspended matter in the inner shelf of the East China Sea. In this paper, the satellite images of the study area were retrieved in January from 2001 to 2015, and the monthly distribution of surface suspended matter were obtained. The inter-annual distribution of the study area is similar, and the concentration of surface suspended matter is higher near the shore than offshore. A large amount of surface suspended matter is transported southeast under the influence of Zhejiang and Fujian coastal current and Taiwan warm current. Only a small amount of surface suspension can reach the Kuroshio area. The surface suspended matter concentration changes obviously near the estuary because of the effect of differences in the flux of the Yangtze River. 15Responses of the Sea Surface Temperature and Suspended Matter Concentration to ENSO Events in the Bohai Sea显示文摘The sea surface temperature(SST)and sea surface suspended matter concentration data in the Bohai Sea were collected by multiple NOAA satellites from 1985 to 2018.The background calibration method was used to correct the systematic errors caused by the long-term observations through multiple NOAA satellites in this paper.Then,we studied the long-term variations of the sea surface temperature(SST)and sea surface suspended matter concentration(SSC)and their response to ENSO events in the Bohai Sea.Our results show that the SST and SSC of the Bohai Sea have been increasing since 1985,with an average rate of 0.04℃per year for SST,which is higher than the global average.The average increasing rate of SSC was 0.51 mg L^(-1)yr^(-1),which may be mainly due to the enhancement of winter monsoon in the Bohai.In winter,the SST and SSC of the Bohai Sea were higher in El Niño years than in La Niña years.In El Niño years,the ocean circulations were the main factor affecting the variation in SST.The robust circulation system caused by the strong winter monsoon enhances the water exchange between the cold water of the Bohai Sea and the warm water of the Yellow Sea,resulting in a higher SST in La Niña years.In summer,the SSTs of the Bohai Sea were lower in El Niño years than those in the La Niña years because of the decrease of the SST in the Western Pacific Ocean,the weakening of the subtropical high in the western Pacific,and its eastward shift caused by the El Niño events.LIU Xue DING Dong LI Guangxue ZHANG Yang LIU Shidong WANG Nan ZHONG Yi YANG Xue PAN Yufeng YU Di ZHANG Lei XUE Wenjing 2023Journal of Ocean University of China2023,22,3:1
