| 2 | Determination of rice panicle numbers during heading by multi-angle imaging显示文摘Plant phenomics has the potential to accelerate progress in understanding gene functions and environmental responses. Progress has been made in automating high-throughput plant phenotyping. However, few studies have investigated automated rice panicle counting. This paper describes a novel method for automatically and nonintrusively determining rice panicle numbers during the full heading stage by analyzing color images of rice plants taken from multiple angles. Pot-grown rice plants were transferred via an industrial conveyer to an imaging chamber. Color images from different angles were automatically acquired as a turntable rotated the plant. The images were then analyzed and the panicle number of each plant was determined. The image analysis pipeline consisted of extracting the i2 plane from the original color image, segmenting the image, discriminating the panicles from the rest of the plant using an artificial neural network, and calculating the panicle number in the current image. The panicle number of the plant was taken as the maximum of the panicle numbers extracted from all 12 multi-angle images. A total of 105 rice plants during the full heading stage were examined to test the performance of the method. The mean absolute error of the manual and automatic count was 0.5, with 95.3% of the plants yielding absolute errors within ± 1. | 3 | Restorative effect and mechanism of mecobalamin on sciatic nerve crush injury in mice显示文摘Mecobalamin,a form of vitamin B12 containing a central metal element(cobalt),is one of the most important mediators of nervous system function.In the clinic,it is often used to accelerate recovery of peripheral nerves,but its molecular mechanism remains unclear.In the present study,we performed sciatic nerve crush injury in mice,followed by daily intraperitoneal administration of mecobalamin(65 μg/kg or 130 μg/kg) or saline(negative control).Walking track analysis,histomorphological examination,and quantitative real-time PCR showed that mecobalamin significantly improved functional recovery of the sciatic nerve,thickened the myelin sheath in myelinated nerve fibers,and increased the cross-sectional area of target muscle cells.Furthermore,mecobalamin upregulated m RNA expression of growth associated protein 43 in nerve tissue ipsilateral to the injury,and of neurotrophic factors(nerve growth factor,brain-derived nerve growth factor and ciliary neurotrophic factor) in the L4–6 dorsal root ganglia.Our findings indicate that the molecular mechanism underlying the therapeutic effect of mecobalamin after sciatic nerve injury involves the upregulation of multiple neurotrophic factor genes. | Lin Gan Minquan Qian Keqin Shi Gang Chen Yanglin Gu Wei Du Guoxing Zhu | 2014 | Neural Regeneration Research2014,9,22: | 11 |
| 4 | Energy flux characteristics of seismic waves at the interface between soil layers with different saturations显示文摘Based on the multiphase poroelasticity theory describing the propagation of waves in the unsaturated fluid-saturated porous medium,the reflection and transmission coefficients of the seismic waves at the interface between soil layers with different saturations are obtained.Our unsaturated model consists of a deformable skeleton in which two compressible and viscous fluids(i.e.,water and gas)flow in the interstices.Three compressional waves(i.e.,P1,P2,and P3 waves)and one shear(i.e.,S wave)wave exist in the unsaturated soils.The expressions for the energy ratios of the various reflected and transmitted waves at the interface during the transmission and reflection processes are presented in explicit forms accordingly.At last,numerical computations are performed and the results obtained are respectively depicted graphically.The variation of the energy ratios with the incident angle,wave frequency and saturation degrees of the upper and lower soil layers is illustrated in detail.The calculation results show that the allocation of incident seismic waves at the interface is influenced not only by the angle and frequency of the incident seismic waves,but also by the saturations of the upper and lower soil layers.It is also verified that,at the interface,the sum of energy ratios of the reflected and transmitted waves is approximately equal to unity as was expected.This study is of importance to several fields such as geotechnical engineering,seismology,and geophysics. | CHEN WeiYun CHEN GuoXing XIA TangDai CHEN Wei | 2014 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,10: | 10 |
| 5 | A deep learning-integrated micro-CT image analysis pipeline for quantifying rice lodging resistance-related traits显示文摘Lodging is a common problemin rice,reducing its yield andmechanical harvesting efficiency.Rice architecture is a key aspect of its domestication and a major factor that limits its high productivity.The ideal rice culm structure,includingmajor_axis_culm,minor axis_culm,andwall thickness_culm,is critical for improving lodging resistance.However,the traditionalmethod ofmeasuring rice culms is destructive,time consuming,and labor intensive.In this study,we used a high-throughput micro-CT-RGB imaging system and deep learning(SegNet)todevelopa high-throughputmicro-CTimageanalysis pipelinethatcanextract 24 riceculmmorphological traits and lodging resistance-related traits.When manual and automatic measurements were compared at themature stage,the mean absolute percentage errors for major_axis_culm,minor_axis_culm,andwall_thickness_culmin 104 indica rice accessionswere 6.03%,5.60%,and 9.85%,respectively,and the R^(2) valueswere 0.799,0.818,and 0.623.We also builtmodels of bending stress using culmtraits at the mature and tillering stages,and the R^(2) values were 0.722 and 0.544,respectively.The modeling results indicated that this method can quantify lodging resistance nondestructively,even at an early growth stage.In addition,we also evaluated the relationships of bending stress toshoot dryweight,culm density,and drought-related traits and found that plants with greater resistance to bending stress had slightly higher biomass,culm density,and culm area but poorer drought resistance.In conclusion,we developed a deep learning-integrated micro-CT image analysis pipeline to accurately quantify the phenotypic traits of rice culms in4.6 min per plant;this pipeline will assist in future high-throughput screening of large rice populations for lodging resistance. | Di Wu Dan Wu Hui Feng Lingfeng Duan Guoxing Dai Xiao Liu Kang Wang Peng Yang Guoxing Chen Alan P.Gay John H.Doonan Zhiyou Niu Lizhong Xiong Wanneng Yang | 2021 | Plant Communications2021,2,2: | 7 |

| 7 | Formation control with obstacle avoidance of second-order multi-agent systems under directed communication topology显示文摘This paper addresses the obstacle avoidance problem of formation control for the multi-agent systems modeled by double integrator dynamics under a directed interconnection topology. The control task is finished by a leader-follower formation scheme combined with an artificial potential field(APF) method.The leader-follower scheme is carried out by taking the desired trajectory with the desired velocity as virtual leader, while the APF method is carried out by dealing with the obstacles as the high potential points. When the obstacle avoidance tasks are finished, the artificial potential forces degrade the formation performance, so their undesired effects are treated as disturbances, which is analyzed by the robust H∞performance. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, it is proved that the proposed formation approach can realize the control objective. The result is also extended to the switching multi-agent formation. | 8 | Pore water pressure increment model for saturated Nanjing fine sand subject to cyclic loading显示文摘Three groups of dynamic triaxial tests were performed for saturated Nanjing fine sand subjected to uniform cyclic loading. The tested curves of the excess pore water pressure (EPWP) ratio variation with the ratio of the number of cycles are provided. The concept of the EPWP increment ratio is introduced and two new concepts of the effective dynamic shear stress ratio and the log decrement of effective stress are defined. It is found that the development of the EPWP increment ratio can be divided into three stages: descending, stable and ascending. Furthermore, at the stable and ascending stages, a satisfactory linear relationship is obtained between the accumulative EPWP increment ratio and natural logarithm of the effective dynamic shear stress ratio. Accordingly, the EPWP increment ratio at the number of cycles N has been deduced that is proportional to the log decrement of effective stress at the cycle number N-1, but is independent of the cyclic stress amplitude. | 14 | Dynamic shear modulus and damping ratio characteristics of undisturbed marine soils in the Bohai Sea,China显示文摘This paper presents results from a series of stress-controlled undrained cyclic triaxial tests on the undisturbed marine silty clay,silt,and fine sand soils obtained from the Bohai Sea,China.Emphasis is placed on the major factors for predominating the dynamic shear modulus(G)and damping ratio(λ)in the shear strain amplitude(γ_(a))from 10^(-5) to 10^(-2),involving depth,sedimentary facies types,and water content of marine soils.The empirical equations of the small-strain shear modulus(G_(max))and damping ratio(λ_(min))using a single-variable of depth H are established for the three marine soils.A remarkable finding is that the curves of shear modulus reduction(G/G_(max))and the damping ratio(λ)with increasing γ_(a) of the three marine soils can be simply determined through a set of explicit expressions with the two variables of depth H and water content W.This finding is validated by independent experimental data from the literature.At the similar depths,the G value of the marine soils of terrestrial facies is the largest,followed b_(y) the neritic facies,and the G value of the marine soils of abyssal facies is the smallest.The sedimentary facies types of the marine soils have slight effect on theλvalue.Another significant finding is that the shear modulus reduction curves plotted against the γ_(a) of the three marine soils at the similar depths are significantly below those of the corresponding terrigenous soils,while the damping curves plotted against γ_(a) are just the opposite.The results presented in this paper serve as a worthful reference for the evaluation of seabed seismic site effects in the Bohai Sea due to lack of experimental data. | Zhang Yan Zhao Kai Peng Yanjv Chen Guoxing | 2022 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2022,21,2: | 4 |
| 15 | Adaptive walking control of quadruped robots based on central pattern generator (CPG) and reflex显示文摘This paper presents a central pattern generator (CPG) and vestibular reflex combined control strategy for a quadruped robot. An oscillator network and a knee-to-hip mapping function are presented to realize the rhythmic motion for the quadruped robot. A two-phase parameter tuning method is designed to adjust the parameters of oscillator network. First, based on the numerical simulation, the influences of the parameters on the output signals are analyzed, then the genetic algorithm (GA) is used to evolve the phase relationships of the oscillators to realize the basic animal-like walking pattern. Moreover, the animal's vestibular reflex mechanism is mimicked to realize the adaptive walking of the quadruped robot on a slope terrain. Coupled with the sensory feedback information, the robot can walk up and down the slope smoothly. The presented bio-inspired control method is validated through simulations and experiments with AIBO. Cioning with in vitro culured foetal fibroblast cells, in comparison with embryonic cells, can be used not only to theoretically study the embryonic or cellular development and differentiation in mammals, but also to utilize the unlimited fibroblast cells to produce large numbers of clonings. The preliminary results are as follows: (i) The division and development of the cloned embryos with embryonic donor cells and goat foetal fibroblast donor cells were 55%, 77% and 35%, 31%, respectively. | 17 | Behavior of large post-liquefaction deformation in saturated Nanjing fine sand显示文摘Laboratory tests on the large post-liquefaction deformation of saturated Nanjing fine sand were performed by using a hollow cylinder apparatus. The stress-strain responses and the characteristics of excess pore water pressure after liquefaction were studied. It was found that the relationship between deviatoric stress and axial strain presented a sigmoid curve, and there was a good linearity relationship between normalized pore water pressure and deviatoric stress. On this basis, a constitutive model of stress-strain responses and a dissipation model of excess pore water pressure were established. It was found that the results predicted by the two models were in good agreement with the experimental data. The influence of relative densities and confi ning pressure on the characteristics of liquef ied soil were studied. The results showed the relative densities and initial effective confining pressure all had an important influence on the stress-strain responses of liquefi ed saturated Nanjing fine sand.
