| 1 | Seismogenic Structure of the April 20, 2013, Lushan Ms7 Earthquake in Sichuan显示文摘At 08:02 on April 20, 2013, a Ms7.0 earthquake occurred in Lushan, Ya'an, in the Longmenshan fault zone, Sichuan. The epicenter was located between Taiping Town and Shuangshi Town, Lushan County and the maximum earthquake intensity at the epicenter reached class IX. Field investigations in the epicenter area found that, although buildings were seriously damaged, no obvious surface rupture structure was produced, only some ground fissures and sand blows and water ejection phenomena being seen. An integrated analysis of high-resolution remote sensing image interpretation, mainshock and aftershock distribution, and focal mechanism solutions indicated that this earthquake was an independent rupturing event in the southwestern segment of the Longmenshan fault zone, belonging to the thrust-type earthquake. Ruptures occurred along the south-central segment of the Shuangshi-Dachuan fault and the principal rupture plane dipped SW at 33-43°. It is inferred that the Lushan earthquake might be related to the ramp activity of the basal detachment zone (13-19 km) of the Longmenshan fault zone. Historically, there occurred at least two Ms6-6.5 earthquakes along the Shuangshi-Dachuan fault zone; thus it is thought that the Lushan earthquake, different from the Wenchuan earthquake, was a characteristic one in the southwestern segment of the Longmenshan fault zone. In-situ stress measurements indicated the Lushan earthquake was the result of stress release of the southwestern segment of the Longmenshan fault zone after the Wenchuan earthquake. | 6 | Solvent extraction of lanthanum and cerium ions from hydrochloric acidic aqueous solutions using partly saponified 2-ethylhexyl phosphonic acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester显示文摘In order to clarify the extraction process with saponified extractant, the solvent extraction experiments of rare earth elements(REEs), lanthanum and cerium, by using partly saponified 2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester(EHEHPA, HL) from hydrochloric acidic solutions have been performed. The concentration of initial aqueous rare earth ion was in a range of 0.0010–0.1000 mol·L^(-1); EHEHPA in a range of 0.2877–0.8631 mol·L^(-1) with saponification rate of 0.3(mole fraction), and the initial aqueous p H in a range of 1.00–4.00. Firstly, the extracted species were determined by the saturation extraction capacity method. Secondly, according to the equilibrium aqueous pH values, the extraction processes were divided into three different categories: extraction with saponified EHEHPA, extraction with un-saponified EHEHPA, and hydrolysis process. | 13 | Insights into simultaneous adsorption and oxidation of antimonite[Sb(III)]by crawfish shell-derived biochar:spectroscopic investigation and theoretical calculations显示文摘Removal of antimonite[Sb(Ⅲ)]from the aquatic environment and reducing its biotoxicity is urgently needed to safeguard environmental and human health.Herein,crawfish shell-derived biochars(CSB),pyrolyzed at 350,500,and 650℃,were used to remediate Sb(Ⅲ)in aqueous solutions.The adsorption data best fitted to the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models.Biochar produced at 350℃(CSB350)showed the highest adsorption capacity(27.7 mg g^(−1)),and the maximum 78%oxidative conversion of Sb(Ⅲ)to Sb(V).The adsorption results complemented with infrared(FTIR),X-ray photoelectron(XPS),and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure(NEXAFS)spectroscopy analyses indicated that the adsorption of Sb(Ⅲ)on CSB involved electrostatic interaction,surface complexation with oxygen-containing functional groups(C=O,O=C-O),π-πcoordination with aromatic C=C and C-H groups,and H-bonding with-OH group.Density functional theory calculations verified that surface complexation was the most dominant adsorption mechanism,whilstπ-πcoordination and H-bonding played a secondary role.Furthermore,electron spin resonance(ESR)and mediated electrochemical reduction/oxidation(MER/MEO)analyses confirmed that Sb(Ⅲ)oxidation at the biochar surface was governed by persistent free radicals(PFRs)(•O_(2)^(−)and•OH)and the electron donating/accepting capacity(EDC/EAC)of biochar.The abundance of preferable surface functional groups,high concentration of PFRs,and high EDC conferred CSB350 the property of an optimal adsorbent/oxidant for Sb(Ⅲ)removal from water.The encouraging results of this study call for future trials to apply suitable biochar for removing Sb(Ⅲ)from wastewater at pilot scale and optimize the process. | Hanbo Chen Yurong Gao Jianhong Li Chenghua Sun Binoy Sarkar Amit Bhatnagar Nanthi Bolan Xing Yang Jun Meng Zhongzhen Liu Hong Hou Jonathan WCWong Deyi Hou Wenfu Chen Hailong Wang | 2022 | Biochar2022,4,1: | 0 |
