| 1 | Anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombogenic effects of atorvastatin in acute ischemic stroke显示文摘Atorvastatin decreases inflammation and thrombogenesis in patients with carotid artery plaque. Atorvastatin is administered to lower lipid levels, but its anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombogenic effects remain unclear. Eighty-nine patients from northeastern China with acute ischemic stroke caused by large-artery atherosclerosis were randomly divided into the study and control groups. All patients received routine treatment, including antiplatelet therapy, circulatory support, and symp-tomatic treatment. The study group (n=43) also received daily atorvastatin 20 mg/d, and the control group (n=46) received daily placebo pills containing glucose. After 4 weeks, the levels of C-reactive protein, fibrinogen, and D-dimer were significantly lower in the study group than in the control group. Decreases in the levels of C-reactive protein, fibrinogen, and D-dimer were not associated with de-creases in the levels of triacylglycerol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. | 2 | Correlation between tongue manifestations and glucose, total cholesterol, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in patients with acute cerebral infarction显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To analyze the association between tongue manifestations and the levels of glucose (GLU), total cholesterol(TCH), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) in subjects with acute cerebral infarction.METHODS: Hospitalized patients with first unilateral cerebral infarction in the Neurological Department of Xuanwu Hospital were included and the correlation between tongue fur color, fur nature,and the levels of GLU,TCH, HDL-C were analyzed.RESULTS: HDL level in the thin fur group was higher than that in the thick fur group(P=0.02). The difference in the levels of GLU,TCH, and HDL-C among the groups was significant(P<0.05), classified in terms of slippery, moist, and dry fur. Further comparison between the groups by Student-Newman-Keuls test showed that GLU level in the dry fur group was the highest. | 4 | Virus-induced Gene Silencing in Eggplant(Solanum melongena)显示文摘Eggplant(Solanum melongena)is an economically important vegetable requiring investigation into its various genomic functions.The current limitation in the investigation of genomic function in eggplant is the lack of effective tools available for conducting functional assays.Virus-induced gene silencing(VIGS)has played a critical role in the functional genetic analyses.In this paper,TRV-mediated VIGS was successfully elicited in eggplant.We first cloned the CDS sequence of PDS(PHYTOENE DESATURASE) in eggplant and then silenced the PDS gene.Photo-bleaching was shown on the newly-developed leaves four weeks after agroinoculation,indicating that VIGS can be used to silence genes in eggplant.To further illustrate the reliability of VIGS in eggplant,we selected Chl H,Su and CLA1 as reporters to elicit VIGS using the high-pressure spray method.Suppression of Chl H and Su led to yellow leaves,while the depletion of CLA1 resulted in albino.In conclusion,four genes,PDS,Chl H,Su(Sulfur),CLA1,were down-regulated significantly by VIGS,indicating that the VIGS system can be successfully applied in eggplant and is a reliable tool for the study of gene function. | Haiping Liu Daqi Fu Benzhong Zhu Huaxue Yan Xiaoying Shen Jinhua Zuo Yi Zhu Yunbo Luo | 2012 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2012,54,6: | 11 |
| 5 | Publication trends in studies examining radix notoginseng as a treatment for ischemic brain injury显示文摘Acute ischemic stroke has become a major disease burden with high mortality and morbidity rates. There is a lack of evidence-based medicine confirming the efficacy of common treatments. Panax notoginseng saponins, the main active ingredient of radix notoginseng, have a neuroprotective role in ischemic brain injury, and have been popularized as a maintenance treatment for acute cerebral infarction and its sequelae. We conducted literature searches on the Web of Science, ClinicalTrials.gov, Cochrane Collaboration, CNKI, Wanfang and the China Scientific & Technological Achievements Database and analyzed the experimental and clinical outcomes of studies investigating the use of radix notoginseng in the treatment of ischemic brain injury to improve the understanding of relevant research trends and existing problems. We found that over the past 10 years, China has maintained its interest in Panax notoginseng research, while such studies are scarce on the Web of Science. However, Chinese researchers often focus on the neuroprotective role of radix notoginseng in ischemic brain injury, but there are no large-scale clinical data to confirm its efficacy and safety. | 9 | Compound Gaoziban tablet(复方高滋斑片) alleviates depression via toll-like receptor 4/myeloid differentiation factor 88/nuclear factor-kappa B pathway显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of compound Gaoziban tablet(复方高滋斑片, CGZBT) on depression, and to investigate the underlying mechanism. METHODS: The components of CGZBT were analysed by high-performance liquid chromatography. Then, we assessed the effects of varying doses of CGZBT on an established chronic unpredictable mild stress(CUMS) model in rats. Whether animals were depressed was evaluated by sucrose preference test, open field test and forced swimming test. Neurotransmitters of hippocampus were detected by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α), interleukin(IL)-1β, IL-6, IL-4, and IL-10 were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Expressions of toll-like receptor 4(TLR4), myeloid differentiation factor 88(My D88), phospho-nuclear factorkappa B(p-NF-κB), cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2), ionized calcium binding adapter molecule-1(IBA-1) were assessed by immunohistochemical staining and western blotting. RESULTS: Eight compounds were identified from CGZBT, moreover, our results showed that CGZBT effectively reversed the CUMS-induced decrease in sucrose preference, shortened the movement distance and prolonged immobility time. CGZBT significantly increased levels of 5-hydroxytryptamine, dopamine, norepinephrine, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid levels, and reduced the expression of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, yet increased IL-4 and IL-10. Furthermore, the expressions of TLR4, My D88, COX-2, p-NF-κB and IBA-1 in hippocampus were effectively reversed after treatment with CGZBT.
