1Biomimetic strategies for tendon/ligament-to-bone interface regeneration显示文摘Tendon/ligament-to-bone healing poses a formidable clinical challenge due to the complex structure,composition,cell population and mechanics of the interface.With rapid advances in tissue engineering,a variety of strategies including advanced biomaterials,bioactive growth factors and multiple stem cell lineages have been developed to facilitate the healing of this tissue interface.Given the important role of structure-function relationship,the review begins with a brief description of enthesis structure and composition.Next,the biomimetic biomaterials including decellularized extracellular matrix scaffolds and synthetic-/natural-origin scaffolds are critically examined.Then,the key roles of the combination,concentration and location of various growth factors in biomimetic application are emphasized.After that,the various stem cell sources and culture systems are described.At last,we discuss unmet needs and existing challenges in the ideal strategies for tendon/ligament-to-bone regeneration and highlight emerging strategies in the field.Tingyun Lei Tao Zhang Wei Ju Xiao Chen Boon Chin Heng Weiliang Shen Zi Yin 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,8:6
2The heterogeneity of islet autoantibodies and the progression of islet failure in type 1 diabetic patients显示文摘Type 1 diabetes mellitus is heterogeneous in many facets. The patients suffered from type 1 diabetes present several levels of islet function as well as variable number and type of islet-specific autoantibodies. This study was to investigate prevalence and heterogeneity of the islet autoantibodies and clinical phenotypes of type 1 diabetes mellitus; and also discussed the process of islet failure and its risk factors in Chinese type 1 diabetic patients. A total of 1,291 type 1 diabetic patients were enrolled in this study. Demographic information was collected. Laboratory tests including mixed-meal tolerance test, human leukocyte antigen alleles, hemoglobin A1 c, lipids, thyroid function and islet autoantibodies were conducted. The frequency of islet-specific autoantibody in newly diagnosed T1 DM patients(duration shorter than half year) was 73% in East China. According to binary logistic regressions, autoantibody positivity, longer duration and lower Body Mass Index were the risk factors of islet failure. As the disease developed, autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase declined as well as the other two autoantibodies against zinc transporter 8 and islet antigen 2. The decrease of autoantibodies was positively correlated with aggressive beta cell destruction. Autoantibodies can facilitate the identification of classic T1 DM from other subtypes and predict the progression of islet failure. 4Effects of Multiple Cleaning and Disinfection Interventions on Infectious Diseases in Children: A Group Randomized Trial in China显示文摘Objective To assess the effectiveness of multiple cleaning and disinfection interventions in the homes and kindergartens, in reducing gastrointestinal and respiratory illnesses of children. Methods From October 2010 to September 2011, we performed a prospective, controlled study in China. 408 children under 5 years old were recruited and group randomized into intervention and control groups. Families and kindergartens in the intervention group were provided with antibacterial products for hand hygiene and surface cleaning or disinfection for one year. Each child's illness symptoms and sick leave were recorded every day. Results A total of 393 children completed the study, with similar baseline demographics in each of the 2 groups. Except for abdominal pain, the odds of symptoms(fever, cough and expectoration, runny nose and nasal congestion, diarrhea), illness(acute respiratory illness and gastrointestinal illness), and sick leave per person each month were significantly reduced by interventions. The rates of fever, diarrhea, acute respiratory illness, gastrointestinal illness and sick leave per person per year were significantly decreased as well. 7A scaffold with zinc-whitlockite nanoparticles accelerates bone reconstruction by promoting bone differentiation and angiogenesis显示文摘The therapy of bone defects based on advanced biological scaffolds offers the most promising therapeutic strategy for bone reconstruction.It is still challenging to develop scaffolds with the mechanical,osteogenic,angiogenic,and antibacterial properties required for bone defect reconstruction.Here,a novel organic/inorganic composite scaffold(zinc-whitlockite(ZnWH)/G/H)was synthesized using gellan gum(GG),human-like collagen(HLC),and ZnWH nanoparticles.The scaffold had excellent mechanical properties,adjustable swelling ratio,and interconnected pore structure.In addition to its excellent biocompatibility,it could promote osteogenic differentiation by releasing ZnWH nanoparticles to stimulate human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(hBMSCs)to upregulate the levels of alkaline phosphatase(ALP),osteocalcin(OCN),and osteopontin(OPN).In addition,this study showed that ZnWH nanoparticles could also promote angiogenesis by upregulating the paracrine secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in hBMSCs.At the same time,the scaffold could inhibit the proliferation of bacteria.After 12 weeks of treatment in the rabbit femoral defect model,the ZnWH/G/H scaffold significantly accelerated the process of bone reconstruction.Therefore,these results demonstrate that the prepared novel nanocomposite scaffold,ZnWH/G/H,offers a promising candidate for bone regeneration.Mingming Wang Jiaxin Yao Shihong Shen Chunning Heng Yanyi Zhang Tao Yang Xiaoyan Zheng 2023Nano Research2023,16,1:1
