Mass production and industrial applications of graphene materials显示文摘Graphene is considered a promising material for industrial application based on the intensive laboratoryscale research in the fields of physics, chemistry, materials science and engineering, and biology over the last decade. Many companies have thus started to pursue graphene materials on a scale of tons(for the flake material) or hundreds of thousands of square meters(for the film material) for industrial applications. Though the graphene industry is still in its early stages, very significant progress in mass production and certain industrial applications has become obvious. In this report, we aim to give a brief review of the mass production of graphene materials for some industrial applications and summarize some features or challenges for graphene in the marketplace.yanwu zhu hengxing ji hui-ming cheng rodney s.ruoff 2018National Science Review2018,5,1:15
Rainfall-induced landslide stability analysis in response to transient pore pressure——A case study of natural terrain landslide in Hong Kong显示文摘Transient pore pressure in response to short intense rainfall process plays an important role in shallow landslide occurrence. Using GIS technology, we carry out the rainfall-induced landslide stability analysis in response to transient pore pressure by means of transient and unsaturated rainfall infiltration modeling. A case study is performed on the shallow landslide stability analysis in Hong Kong. Detailed analysis and discussion reached some useful conclusions on the tempo-spatial behavior and characteristics of slope stability response and pore pressure response to typical rainfall process. Comparison analysis is performed on some important issues including landslide stability response in different types of slopes with different hydraulic properties, antecedent rainfall and landslide stability, and the nature of pore pressure response time. These studies might give us an important insight into landslide tringgering mechanism and the hydrological process in response to rainfall, and provide systematic information and evidences for effective risk assessment and warning system establishment.LAN Hengxing, ZHOU Chenghu C. 3Impacts of Land Cover Changes on Ecosystem Carbon Stocks Over the Transboundary Tumen River Basin in Northeast Asia显示文摘Understanding the effects of land cover changes on ecosystem carbon stocks is essential for ecosystem management and environmental protection, particularly in the transboundary region that has undergone marked changes. This study aimed to examine the impacts of land cover changes on ecosystem carbon stocks in the transboundary Tumen River Basin(TTRB). We extracted the spatial information from Landsat Thematic Imager(TM) and Operational Land Imager(OLI) images for the years 1990 and 2015 and obtained convincing estimates of terrestrial biomass and soil carbon stocks with the InVEST model. The results showed that forestland, cropland and built-up land increased by 57.5, 429.7 and 128.9 km2, respectively, while grassland, wetland and barren land declined by 24.9, 548.0 and 43.0 km2, respectively in the TTRB from 1990 to 2015. The total carbon stocks encompassing aboveground, belowground, soil and litter layer carbon storage pools have declined from 831.48 Tg C in 1990 to 831.42 Tg C in 2015 due to land cover changes. In detail, the carbon stocks decreased by 3.13 Tg C and 0.44 Tg C in Democratic People's Republic of Korea(North Korea) and Russia, respectively, while increased by 3.51 Tg C in China. Furthermore, economic development, and national policy accounted for most land cover changes in the TTRB. Our results imply that effective wetland and forestland protection policies among China, North Korea, and Russia are much needed for protecting the natural resources, promoting local ecosystem services and regional sustainable development in the transnational area.XIANG Hengxing JIA Mingming WANG Zongming LI Lin MAO Dehua ZHANG Da CUI Guishan ZHU Weihong 2018Chinese Geographical Science2018,28,6:6
Risk Assessment of Secondary Geological Disasters Induced by the Yushu Earthquake显示文摘The Yushu Ms 7.1 earthquake occurred on April 14,2010 in Qinghai Province,China. It induced a mass of secondary geological disasters, such as collapses, landslides, and debris flows.Risk assessment maps are important for geological disaster prevention and mitigation, and also can serve as a guide for post-earthquake reconstruction.Firstly,a hazard assessment index system of secondary geological disasters in the earthquake region was built in this paper, which was based on detailed analysis of environmental and triggering factors closely related to geological disasters in the study area.GIS technology was utilized to extract and analyze the assessment index.Hazard assessment maps of secondary geological disasters were obtained by spatial modeling and overlaying analysis.Secondly,an analysis of the vulnerability of hazard bearing bodies in the area was conducted, important information, such as, population density, percentage of arable land, industrial and agricultural outputs per unit area were regarded as assessment indices to evaluate socioeconomic vulnerability.Thirdly, the risk level of secondary geological disasters of the area was obtained by the formula:Risk=Hazard×Vulnerability. Risk assessment maps were categorized into four levels, including'low','moderate','high'and'very high'.These results show that some urban areas are at very high risk, including Jiegu,Chengwen,Xiaxiula and Sahuteng towns. This research can provide some references and suggestions to improve decisionmaking support for emergency relief and post- earthquake reconstruction in the study area.NIU Quanfu CHENG Weiming LIU Yong XIE Yaowen LAN Hengxing CAO Yanrong 2012Journal of Mountain Science2012,9,2:5
Experimental investigation of ghost imaging of reflective objects with different surface roughness显示文摘We present an experimental demonstration of ghost imaging of reflective objects with different surface roughness. The influence of the surface roughness, the transverse size of the test detector, and the reflective angle on the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) is analyzed by measuring the second-order correlation of the light field based on classical statistical optics. It is shown that the SNR decreases with an increment of the surface roughness and the detector's transverse size or a decrease of the reflective angle. Additionally, the comparative studies between the rough object and the smooth one under the same conditions are also discussed.SUQIN NAN YANFENG BAI XIAOHUI SHI QIAN SHEN LIJIE QU HENGXING LI XIQUAN FU 2017Photonics Research2017,5,4:5
Geological and surfacial processes and major disaster effects in the Yellow River Basin显示文摘The Yellow River Basin(YRB) is characterized by active geological and tectonic processes, rapid geomorphological evolution, and distinct climatic diversity. Correspondingly, major disasters in the YRB are characterized by varied types, extensive distributions, and sudden occurrences. In addition, major disasters in the YRB usually evolve into disaster chains that cause severe consequences. Therefore, major disasters in the YRB destroy ecologies and environments and influence geological and ecological safety in the basin. This paper systematically reviews research on geological and surface processes, major disaster effects, and risk mitigation in the YRB, discusses the trends and challenges of relevant research, analyzes the key scientific problems that need to be solved, and suggests prospects for future research based on the earth system science concept. Themes of research that should be focused on include geological, surface and climatic processes in the YRB and their interlinking disaster gestation mechanisms;formation mechanisms and disaster chain evolutions of giant landslides in the upper reach of the YRB;mechanisms and disaster chain effects of loess water-soil disasters in the middle reach of the YRB;occurrence patterns and amplifying effects of giant flood chains in the lower reach of the YRB;and risk mitigations of major disasters in the YRB. Key scientific problems that need to be solved are as follows: how to reveal the geological, surface and climatic processes that are coupled and interlinked with gestation mechanisms of major disasters;how to clarify the mutual feedback effects between major disasters and ecology;and how to develop a human-environmental harmony-based integrated risk mitigation system for major disasters. Prospects for future studies that follow the earth system science concept include the following: highlighting interdisciplinary research to reveal the interlinked disaster gestation mechanisms of the geology, surface and climate in the YRB in the past, present, and future;forming theories to clarify the regional patterns, dynamic mechanisms, and mutual-feedback effects between disaster chains and ecology in the YRB on land and in rivers in the region;solving technological bottlenecks to develop assessment models and mitigation theories for integrated risks in the YRB by following the human-environment harmony concept;and finally, establishing a demonstratable application pattern characterized by 'whole-basin coverage' and 'zonal controls', thereby guaranteeing ecological and geological safety in the basin and providing scientific support for ecological conservation and high-quality development of the YRB.Hengxing LAN Jianbing PENG Yanbo ZHU Langping LI Baotian PAN Qiangbing HUANG Junhua LI Qiang ZHANG 2022Science China Earth Sciences2022,65,2:4
Optical characterization of ZnO thin films deposited by RF magnetron sputtering method显示文摘This study investigated the process parameter effects on the structural and optical properties of ZnO thin film using radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering on amorphous glass substrates. The process parameters included RF power and working pressure. Results show that RF power was increased to promote the crystalline quality and decrease ZnO thin film defects. However, when the working pressure was increased to 3 Pa the ZnO thin film crystalline quality became worse. At a 200 W RF power and 1 Pa working pressure, the ZnO thin film with an optical band gap energy of 3.225 eV was obtained.TANG Ning WANG JinLiang XU HengXing PENG HongYong FAN Chao 2009Science China(Technological Sciences)2009,52,8:3
Redistribution of Li-ions using covalent organic frameworks towards dendrite-free lithium anodes:a mechanism based on a Galton Board显示文摘Because of its high theoretical specific capacity and low reduction potential,Li metal is considered to be key to reaching high energy density in rechargeable batteries. In this context, most of the research has focused on suppressing dendrite formation during Li deposition to improve the cycling reversibility and safety of the batteries. Here, covalent organic framework(COF)film coating on a commercial polypropylene separator is applied as an ion redistributor to eliminate Li dendrites. The COF crystallites consist of ordered nanochannels that hinder the movement of anions while allowing Li-ions to transport across, leading to a high Li-ion transference number of 0.77±0.01.The transport of Li-ions across the COF film can be considered to be analogous to beads passing through a Galton Board,a model that demonstrates a statistical concept of a normal distribution. Thus,an even distribution of Li-ions is obtained at the COF/Li metal interface. The controlled Li-ion flux yields a smooth Li metal surface after 1,000 h(500 times)of cycling, leading to a significantly improved cycling stability and reversibility,as demonstrated by Cu||Li half cells,Li||Li symmetric cells, and Li Fe PO4||Li full cells. These results suggest that, following the principle of a Galton Board, nanopore insulators such as COF-based materials are effective ion distributors for the different energy storage or conversion systems.Huanyu Xie Qing Hao Hongchang Jin Shuai Xie Zhaowei Sun Yadong Ye Chaohui Zhang Dong Wang Hengxing Ji Li-Jun Wan 2020Science China Chemistry2020,63,9:3
Estimating the size and travel distance of Klapperhorn Mountain debris flows for risk analysis along railway, Canada显示文摘Debris flows occurring on Klapperhorn Mountain in the Yellowhead Pass in the Canadian Rocky Mountains pose a significant hazard to railway operations at the base of the mountain. The size (volume) and travel distance of these debris flows play an important role in assessing the risk to the railway. GIS analysis, airphoto interpretation together with field work were undertaken on two debris flows located at track mileage 54.0 and 54.3. Characteristics of these two debris flow events were analyzed, including debris flow path morphology and event behavior. Their sizes and travel distances were estimated using an empirical-statistical model (UBCDFLOW) under different initiation conditions. Their potential impact on the railway bridge was evaluated using a bridge blockage ratio.Hengxing LAN C. Derek MARTIN C. H. ZHOU 2008International Journal of Sediment Research2008,23,3:3
Monitoring the mechanical properties of the solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)using electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation显示文摘Stable solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)has been well established to be critical for the reversible operation of Li(ion)batteries, yet our understanding of its mechanical properties currently remains incomplete. Here,we used an electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance combined with dissipation monitoring(EQCM-D)to investigate SEI formation.By quantitatively estimating in-situ,the change in mass, shear modulus, and viscosity of the SEI,we show that the SEI formation in propylene carbonate(PC)-and ethylene carbonate/diethyl carbonate(EC/DEC)-based electrolytes involves the growth of a rigid laye r followed by a viscoelastic layer, whereas a distinct'one-layer'rigid model is applicable to the SEI formulated in tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether(TEGDME)-based electrolyte. With the continuous formation of the SEI,its shear modulus decreases accompanied by an increase in viscosity. In TEGDME,the lightest/thinnest SEI(mass lower than in PC by a factor of nine)yet having the greatest stiffness(more than five times that in PC)is obtained. We attribute this behavior to differences in the chemical composition of the SEIs,which have been revealed by tracking the mass-change-per-mole-of-electrontransferred using EQCM-D and further confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.Yinguang Chai Wenshan Jia Zhiqiu Hu Song Jin Hongchang Jin Huanxin Ju Xingbin Yan Hengxing Ji Li-Jun Wan 2021Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,3:2
Cobalt and nitrogen atoms co-doped porous carbon for advanced electrical double-layer capacitors显示文摘Electrical double-layer capacitors are widely concerned for their high power density, long cycling life and high cycling efficiency. However, their wide application is limited by their low energy density. In this study,we propose a simple yet environmental friendly method to synthesize cobalt and nitrogen atoms co-doped porous carbon(CoAT-NC) material.Cobalt atoms connected with primarily pyridinic nitrogen atoms can be uniformly dispersed in the amorphous carbon matrix, which is benefit for improving electrical conductivity and density of states of the carbon material. Therefore,an enhanced perfo rmance is expected when CoAT-NC is served as electrode in a supercapacitor device.CoAT-NC displays a good gravimetric capacitance of 160 F/g at 0.5 A/g combing with outstanding capacitance retention of 90% at an extremely high current density of 100 A/g in acid electrolyte.Furthermore,a good energy density of 30 Wh/kg can be obtained in the organic electrolyte.Aiqin Xiang Shuai Xie Fei Pan Hongchang Jin Yiheng Zhai Yanwu Zhu Xianghua Kong Hengxing Ji 2021Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,2:2
The effect of collagen hydrogels on chondrocyte behaviors through restricting the contraction of cell/hydrogel constructs显示文摘Collagen is a promising material for tissue engineering, but the poor mechanical properties of collagen hydrogels, which tend to cause contraction under the action of cellular activity, make its application challengeable. In this study, the amino group of type I collagen(Col I)was modified with methacrylic anhydride(MA)and the photo-crosslinkable methacrylate anhydride modified type I collagen(CM)with three different degrees of substitution(DS)was prepared. The physical properties of CM and Col I hydrogels were tested, including micromorphology, mechanical properties and degradation properties. The results showed that the storage modulus and degradation rate of hydrogels could be adjusted by changing the DS of CM.In vitro, chondrocytes were seeded into these four groups of hydrogels and subjected to fluorescein diacetate/propidium iodide(FDA/PI)staining,cell counting kit-8(CCK-8)test,histological staining and cartilage-related gene expression analysis. In vivo, these hydrogels encapsulating chondrocytes were implanted subcutaneously into nude mice, then histological staining and sulfated glycosaminoglycan(sGAG)/DNA assays were performed. The results demonstrated that contraction of hydrogels affected behaviors of chondrocytes, and CM hydrogels with suitable DS could resist contraction of hydrogels and promote the secretion of cartilage-specific matrix in vitro and in vivo.Longpeng Dong Qingli Liu Yongli Gao Hengxing Jia Wenling Dai Likun Guo Hongsong Fan Yujiang Fan Xingdong Zhang 2021Regenerative Biomaterials2021,8,4:2

NS codoped carbon nanorods as anode materials for high-performance lithium and sodium ion batteries显示文摘NS codoped carbon nanorods(NS-CNRs) were prepared using crab shell as template and polyphenylene sulfide(PPS) as both the C and S precursor, followed by carbonization in NH_3. The as-obtained NS-CNRs had a diameter of ~50 nm, length of several micrometers, and N and S contents of 12.5 at.% and 3.7 at.%,respectively, which can serve as anodes for both lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) and sodium ion batteries(SIBs). When serving as an anode of LIB, the NS-CNRs delivered gravimetric capacities of 2154 mAh g^(-1)at current densities of 0.1 A g^(-1)and 625 mAh g^(-1)at current densities of 5.0 A g^(-1)for 1000 cycles. When serving as an anode of SIB, the NS-CNRs delivered gravimetric capacities of 303 mAh g^(-1)at current densities of 0.1 A g^(-1)and 230 mAh g^(-1)at current densities of 1.0 A g^(-1)for 3000 cycles. The excellent electrochemical performance of NS-CNRs could be ascribed to the one-dimensional nanometer structure and high level of heteroatom doping. We expect that the obtained NS-CNRs would benefit for the future development of the doped carbon materials for lithium ion batteries and other extended applications such as supercapacitor, catalyst and hydrogen storage.Ajuan Hu Song Jin Zhenzhen Du Hongchang Jin Hengxing Ji 2018Journal of Energy Chemistry2018,27,1:1
The indispensable role of resilience in rational landslide risk management for social sustainability显示文摘Landslide disasters reflect the conflict between human society and the natural environment, posing challenges to the sustainable development of mountain regions.Identification of potential landslides, estimation of the degree of damage and potential losses of elements at risk, and control of the loss are the major tasks of landslide risk management.Resilience is defined as a social system’s comprehensive abilities to cope with disasters, including the abilities to prepare, anticipate, preserve, absorb, respond, resist, recover, mitigate, learn, and adapt. As an indispensable role, resilience enables more rational landslide risk management for social sustainability. However, quantitative landslide risk management does not pay sufficient attention to the role of resilience.Hence,in this paper, the role of resilience in a landslide risk management framework is systematically discussed.A quantita-tive landslide risk management framework consists of hazard analysis, exposure analysis, risk estimation, risk evaluation, and risk control. In hazard analysis, resilience assessment could help identify potential landslides that could cause significant damage due to the poor resilience of the elements at risk.Resilience assessment in exposure analysis might aid in identifying the most vulnerable elements or regions to certain landslides.Consid-eration of resilience in risk estimation aids in the calculation of indirect losses and improves the results of direct losses analysis. In risk evaluation, resilience as a disaster-coping ability will impact the social system’s landslide risk tolerance threshold.Enhancing resilience is an essential strategy to reduce the vulnerability of social sys-tems.We also proposed that the efficient use of risk information will increase the accuracy of landslide resilience assessments.Naiman Tian Hengxing Lan 2023Geography and Sustainability2023,4,1:1
