Characteristics of carbonate cementation in clastic rocks from the Chang 6 sandbody of Yanchang Formation, southern Ordos Basin显示文摘Densification of reservoir is an important factor that restricts oil and gas exploration from low porosity and extra-low permeability reservoirs. Carbonate cementation was heavily developed in Chang 6 sandbody, a facies of underwater distributary channel in delta front, of Upper Triassic Yanchang Formation in Fuxian area, southern Ordos Basin, and the cementation is one of the major factors that affect quality of reservoir. Based on the macro-microcosmic petrology and geochemistry features, the genesis of densification of carbonate-cemented reservoir was systematically discussed. The carbonate cementation can be classified into endogenous and exogenous, and the essential differences between them are that they were formed in different fluids and in different diagenesis periods. With the aid of identification of thin sections, analyses on electron probe, trace and rare-earth elements, carbon and oxygen isotope, we propose that the endogenous fluid for cementation came from the rock itself during early diagenetic stage. The minerals related to endogenous fluid had good shapes. The reservoir property was enhanced with porosity increasing by 3%-8% because of later dissolution by endogenous fluid. The exogenous fluid might be water combining with CO 2 , likely released from organic matter-rich mudstone. Calcite cement, in form of substrate cementation, was precipitated from the fluid and filled in the remaining pores of sandstones in late diagenetic stage as variations of physical and chemical conditions. The exogenous cement reduced rock porosity, damaged reservoir property, affected some oil enrichment, and seriously caused Chang 6 reservoir densification. Some of the dense layers that formed on top of sandbody could have served as diagenetic traps, and thus the exogenous cementation area could be favorable for oil exploration.LIU ChunYan ZHENG HeRong HU ZongQuan YIN Wei LI Song 2012Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,1:11
Geochemical characteristics and geological significance of the Neoproterozoic carbonates from northern Anhui Province, China显示文摘Petrographical and geochemical studies were carried out of the Neoproterozoic carbonates from northern Anhui Province, China. These carbonates can be subdivided into two types, including purified limestone (PL) and mixed limestone and siliclastic rocks (MLS). PLs are low in Si, Al, Zr and total REE but high in CaO compared with MLSs. Correlations between Zr, Fe2O3, P2O5 and total REE are also less remarkable, indicating that they were not obviously contaminated by continental materials but directly precipitated from seawater. So they can be used for the inversion of paleo-seawater REE patterns. The inversed results indicated that the REE pattern of Neoproterozoic seawater was similar to that of the modern seawater except for the lack of Ce depletion, which was probably affected by the reduced hydrothermal solution. In combination with previous studies, the geochemical trending of these carbonatic samples towards the continental arc in the La- Th-Sc and Th-Sc-Zr/10 diagrams is interpreted as the contamination of arc volcanism. The tectonic background of the southern margin of the North China Craton in the Neoproterozoic was probably related to the Grenville orogeny during the convergence of the Rodinia supercontinent, rather than an intra-plate environment.SUN Linhua GUI Herong CHEN Song MA Yanping HE Zhenyu 2011Chinese Journal Of Geochemistry2011,30,1:9

Geochemistry of sandstones from the Neoproterozoic Jinshanzhai Formation in northern Anhui Province, China: Provenance, weathering and tectonic setting显示文摘Sandstones from the Neoproterozoic Jinshanzhai Formation in northern Anhui Province, China, were analyzed for major oxides and trace elements to infer their provenance, the intensity of paleo-weathering of their source rocks and the depositional tectonic setting. Diagrams of (SiO2/20)-(Na2O+K2O)-(MgO+TiO2+FeO*), TiO2-Ni, Th-Hf-Co, Hf-La/Th and some ratios of elements indicate that felsic rocks constitute the source rocks in the provenance. The values of Chemical Index of Alteration (CIA) are low, which are considered to be affected by K-metasomatism. Whereas the high CIW (Chemical Index of Weathering) values indicate intensive weathering of the source material. Plots of sandstones on bivariate and triangle discriminant diagrams, as well as ICV (Index of Compositional Variation) values revealed that they were deposited on a passive continental margin or in an intra-plate basin. Our recent study, in combination with previous studies and the research progress of the Rodinia super continent, demonstrated that the convergence and extension of the Rodinia super continent were preserved by twice extension as expressed by petrological variation of the southeastern margin of the North China Craton (NCC) during the Neoproterozoic.SUN Linhua GUI Herong CHEN Song 2013Chinese Journal Of Geochemistry2013,32,1:3
Hydrochemical characteristics and water quality evaluation of shallow groundwater in Suxian mining area,Huaibei coalfield,China显示文摘The aim of this study is to evaluate the hydrogeochemical characteristics and water environmental quality of shallow groundwater in the Suxian mining area of Huaibei coalfield,China. The natural formation process of shallow groundwater in Suxian is explored using Piper trilinear charts and Gibbs diagrams, and by examining the ratios between the major ions.United States Salinity Laboratory(USSL)charts,Wilcox diagrams, and the water quality index(WQI)are further employed to quantify the differences in water quality. The results reveal that the main hydrochemical facies of groundwater are HC03-Ca,and that silicate dissolution is the main factor controlling the ion content in shallow groundwater. The USSL charts and Wilcox diagrams show that most of the water samples would be acceptable for use in irrigation systems. The WQI results for each water sample are compared and analyzed, and the quality of groundwater samples around collapse ponds is found to be relatively poor.Hao Yu Herong Gui Honghai Zhao Meichen Wang Jun Li Hongxia Fang Yaqi Jiang Yaru Zhang 2020International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2020,7,4:3

Characterization of a Lacustrine Shale Reservoir and the Evolution of its Nanopores: A Case Study of the Upper Cretaceous Qingshankou Formation in the Songliao Basin, Northeastern China显示文摘The Songliao Basin is one of the most important petroliferous basins in northern China. With a recent gradual decline in conventional oil production in the basin, the exploration and development of unconventional resources are becoming increasingly urgent. The Qingshankou Formation consists of typical Upper Cretaceous continental strata, and represents a promising and practical replacement resource for shale oil in the Songliao Basin. Previous studies have shown that low-mature to mature Qingshankou shale mainly preserves type Ⅰ and type Ⅱ1 organic matter, with relatively high total organic carbon(TOC) content. It is estimated that there is a great potential to explore for shale oil resources in the Qingshankou Formation in this basin. However, not enough systematic research has been conducted on pore characteristics and their main controlling factors in this lacustrine shale reservoir. In this study, 19 Qingshankou shales from two wells drilled in the study area were tested and analyzed for mineral composition, pore distribution and feature evolution using Xray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), low-pressure nitrogen gas adsorption(N2-GA), and thermal simulation experiments. The XRD results show that clay, quartz, and feldspar are the dominant mineral constituents of Qingshankou shale. The clay minerals are mostly illite/smectite mixed layers with a mean content of 83.5%, followed by illite, chlorite, and kaolinite. There are abundant deposits of clay-rich shale in the Qingshankou Formation in the study area, within which many mineral and organic matter pores were observed using SEM. Mineral pores contribute the most to shale porosity;specifically, clay mineral pores and carbonate pores comprise most of the mineral pores in the shale. Among the three types of organic matter pores, type B is more dominant the other two. Pores with diameters greater than 10 nm supply the main pore volume;most are half-open slits and wedge-shaped pores. The total pore volume had no obvious linear relationship with TOC content, but had some degree of positive correlation with the content of quartz + feldspar and clay minerals respectively. However, it was negatively correlated with carbonate mineral content. The specific surface area of the pores is negatively related to TOC content, average pore diameter, and carbonate mineral content. Moreover, it had a somewhat positive correlation with clay mineral content and no clear linear relationship with the content of quartz + feldspar. With increases in maturity, there was also an increase in the number of carbonate mineral dissolution pores and organic matter pores, average pore diameter, and pore volume, whereas there was a decrease in specific surface area of the pores. Generally, the Qingshankou shale is at a low-mature to mature stage with a TOC content of more than 1.0%, and could be as thick as 250 m in the study area. Pores with diameters of more than 10 nm are well-developed in the shale. This research illustrates that there are favorable conditions for shale oil occurrence and enrichment in the Qingshankou shale in the study area.ZHANG Xu LIU Chenglin LI Bing WU Linqiang GUI Herong WANG Ziling ZHANG Zhihui LIANG Dexiu 2020Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2020,94,2:2
Rare earth element geochemistry of groundwater from a deep seated sandstone aquifer, northern Anhui province,China显示文摘Deep coal mines in northern Anhui province,China, provide opportunities for tracing the distribution and fractionation of rare earth elements(REEs) in deep seated environments.Major ions,as well as REE concentrations were measured in groundwater from a sandstone aquifer located between-400 and-280 m.Our results indicate that this groundwater consists of Cl HCO3-Na or Cl CO3-Na water types with warm temperature(30.1-31.4 °C),circumneutral pH(7.27-8.61) and high levels of total dissolved solids(TDS = 1306-2165 mg/L).Concentrations of REEs in groundwater are high as expressed by their Nd concentrations(0.0086-0.018 lg/L).Except for weak heavy REEs(HREE) enrichment relative to light REEs(LREE),the similarity of REE distribution patterns between groundwater and aquifer rock indicate that enrichment of REEs is considered to be controlled by aquifer rock,as well as by their minerals, whereas the fractionation of REEs is controlled by HREE enriched minerals and,to a lesser extent,by inorganic REE complexes.Ce anomalies normalized to Post Archean Average Shale(PAAS) and aquifer rock are weak, which probably reflect the contribution of reduced conditions in combination with pH,rather than a signature of aquifer rock.Gui Herong Sun Linhua Chen Luwang Chen Song 2011Mining Science and Technology2011,21,4:2

Geology and geomechanics of hydraulic fracturing in the Marcellus shale gas play and their potential applications to the Fuling shale gas development显示文摘Geological characteristics, geomechanical behavior and hydraulic fracture propagation mechanism in the Marcellus shale gas play are analyzed and compared with China’s Fuling shale play.Successful experiences in hydraulic fracturing and shale gas development in the Marcellus shale gas play are summarized, which might be applicable in other shale plays. The main factors contributing to the successful development of the Marcellus shale gas play include adoption of advanced drilling and completion technologies, increases of hydraulic fracturing stages, proppant concentration and fluid injection volume. The geological and geomechanical mechanisms related to those technologies are analyzed, particularly the in-situ stress impacts on hydraulic fracturing. The minimum horizontal stress controls where the fractures are initiated, and the maximum horizontal stress dominates the direction of the hydraulic fracture propagation.Hydraulic fracturing performed in the shale reservoir normally has no stress barriers in most cases because the shale has a high minimum horizontal stress, inducing hydraulic fractures propagating beyond the reservoir zone, resulting in inefficient stimulation. This is a common problem in shale plays, and its mechanism is studied in the paper. It is also found that the on-azimuth well has a higher productivity than the off-azimuth well, because shear fractures are created in the off-azimuth well, causing main fractures to kink and increasing fracture tortuosity and friction. The Fuling shale gas play has a markedly higher minimum horizontal stress and much smaller horizontal stress difference. The high minimum horizontal stress causes a much higher formation breakdown pressure;therefore, hydraulic fracturing in the Fuling shale gas play needs a higher treatment pressure, which implies higher difficulty in fracture propagation. The small difference in the two horizontal stresses in the Fuling shale gas play generates shorter and more complex hydraulic fractures, because hydraulic fractures in this case are prone to curve to preexisting fractures. To overcome these difficulties,we recommend reducing well spacing and increasing proppant concentration to increase gas productivity for the Fuling shale gas development.Herong Zheng Jincai Zhang Yuanchang Qi 2020Energy Geoscience2020,1,1:1
