| 1 | Application of high silica zeolite ZSM-5 in a hybrid treatment process based on sequential adsorption and ozonation for VOCs elimination显示文摘In this study,a hydrophobic synthetic zeolite,namely ZSM-5 is chosen as an adsorbent/catalyst for toluene removal.Experimental results showed that toluene adsorption onto ZSM-5 was favourable,following a Langmuir adsorption isotherm model.ZSM-5 zeolite was regenerated using gaseous ozone at low temperature.Adsorbed toluene was oxidised,releasing mainly CO_2 and H_2O.Traces of oxidation by-products such as acetic acid and acetaldehyde were formed and remained adsorbed after the oxidativate regeneration with ozone.After four successive cycles of adsorption/ozonation,the adsorption efficiency was not affected(92%-99%).These results showed that volatile organic compound(VOC)removal by adsorption onto ZSM-5 zeolite followed by ozone regeneration could be used as a promising hybrid process for the control of VOC emissions in terms of efficiency. | Hicham Zaitan Marie Hélène Manero Héctor Valdés | 2016 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,3: | 23 |

| 3 | Gastric leaks post sleeve gastrectomy:Review of its prevention and management显示文摘Gastric sleeve gastrectomy has become a frequent bariatric procedure. Its apparent simplicity hides a number of serious,sometimes fatal,complications. This is more important in the absence of an internationally adopted algorithm for the management of the leaks complicating this operation. The debates exist even regarding the definition of a leak,with several classification systems that can be used to predict the cause of the leak,and also to determine the treatment plan. Causes of leak are classified as mechanical,technical and ischemic causes. After defining the possible causes,authors went into suggesting a number of preventive measures to decrease the leak rate,including gentle handling of tissues,staple line reinforcement,larger bougie size and routine use of methylene blue test per operatively. In our review,we noticed that the most important clinical sign or symptom in patients with gastric leaks are fever and tachycardia,which mandate the use of an abdominal computed tomography,associated with an upper gastrointrstinal series and/or gastroscopy if no leak was detected. After diagnosis,the management of leak depends mainly on the clinical condition of the patient and the onset time of leak. It varies between prompt surgical intervention in unstable patients and conservative management in stable ones in whom leaks present lately. The management options include also endoscopic interventions with closure techniques or more commonly exclusion techniques with an endoprosthesis. | 18 | Phenolic extract from Ocimum basilicum restores lipid metabolism in Triton WR-1339-induced hyperlipidemic mice and prevents lipoprotein-rich plasma oxidation显示文摘In this study we investigated the hypolipidemic and anti-lipoprotein-oxidation activities of phenolic extract from sweet basil a popular culinary herb.The hypolipidemic activity was studied in mice model injected intraperitoneally with Triton WR-1339 at a dose of 200 mg/kg body weight.The animals were grouped as follows:normolipidemic control group(n=8),hyperlipidemic control group(n=8)and phenolic extract-treated group(n=8)at a dose of 200 mg/kg body weight.After 7 h and 24 h treatment,the oral administration of the phenolic extract exerts a significant reduction of plasma total cholesterol,triglycerides and LDL-cholesterol concentrations(P<0.001).On the other hand,we demonstrated that the phenolic extract prevents plasma lipid oxidation by 16%(P<0.001),20%(P<0.001),32%(P<0.001)and 44%(P<0.001)at a doses of 10,25,50 and 100g/mL,respectively.The results were compared with ascorbic acid used as standard synthetic antioxidant.HPLC analysis shows that the extract contains 4 major phenolics and is especially rich in rosmarinic acid.This finding indicates that the phenolic extract might be beneficial in lowering hyperlipidemia and preventing atherosclerosis. | Ilham Touiss Saloua Khatib Oussama Bekkouch Souliman Amrani Hicham Harnafi | 2017 | Food Science and Human Wellness2017,6,1: | 1 |
| 19 | Acute cytomegalovirus infection in liver transplant recipients:An independent risk for venous thromboembolism显示文摘Acute cytomegalovirus(CMV) infection is a commonly encountered complication in the post liver transplant setting. We present a case of a 71-year-old male with acute CMV infection, initially presenting with a gastro- intestinal bleed due to acute CMV gastritis and later on complicated by acute venous thromboembolism occur- ring as an unprovoked event in the post liver transplant period. Traditional risk factors for venous thromboem- bolism have been well described in the medical litera- ture. Sporadic cases of thromboembolism due to CMV infection in the immune compromised patients have been described, especially in the post kidney transplant patients. Liver transplant recipients are equally prone to CMV infection particularly in the first year after suc- cessful transplantation. Venous thromboembolism in this special population is particularly challenging due to the fact that these patients may have persistent throm- bocytopenia and anticoagulation may be a challenge for the treating physician. Since liver transplantation is severely and universally limited by the availability of donor organs, we feel that this case report will provide valuable knowledge in the day to day management of these patients, whose clinical needs are complex and require a multidisciplinary approach in their care and management.
