| 1 | Nano-Graphene Oxide for Cellular Imaging and Drug Delivery显示文摘Two-dimensional graphene offers interesting electronic,thermal,and mechanical properties that are currently being explored for advanced electronics,membranes,and composites.Here we synthesize and explore the biological applications of nano-graphene oxide(NGO),i.e.,single-layer graphene oxide sheets down to a few nanometers in lateral width.We develop functionalization chemistry in order to impart solubility and compatibility of NGO in biological environments.We obtain size separated pegylated NGO sheets that are soluble in buffers and serum without agglomeration.The NGO sheets are found to be photoluminescent in the visible and infrared regions.The intrinsic photoluminescence(PL)of NGO is used for live cell imaging in the near-infrared(NIR)with little background.We found that simple physisorption viaπ-stacking can be used for loading doxorubicin,a widely used cancer drug onto NGO functionalized with antibody for selective killing of cancer cells in vitro.Owing to its small size,intrinsic optical properties,large specifi c surface area,low cost,and useful non-covalent interactions with aromatic drug molecules,NGO is a promising new material for biological and medical applications. | Xiaoming Sun Zhuang Liu Kevin Welsher Joshua Tucker Robinson Andrew Goodwin Sasa Zaric Hongjie Dai | 2008 | Nano Research2008,1,3: | 118 |

| 3 | Carbon Nanotubes in Biology and Medicine:In vitro and in vivo Detection,Imaging and Drug Delivery显示文摘Carbon nanotubes exhibit many unique intrinsic physical and chemical properties and have been intensively explored for biological and biomedical applications in the past few years.In this comprehensive review,we summarize the main results from our and other groups in this field and clarify that surface functionalization is critical to the behavior of carbon nanotubes in biological systems.Ultrasensitive detection of biological species with carbon nanotubes can be realized after surface passivation to inhibit the non-specific binding of biomolecules on the hydrophobic nanotube surface.Electrical nanosensors based on nanotubes provide a label-free approach to biological detection.Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy of carbon nanotubes opens up a method of protein microarray with detection sensitivity down to 1 fmol/L.In vitro and in vivo toxicity studies reveal that highly water soluble and serum stable nanotubes are biocompatible,nontoxic,and potentially useful for biomedical applications.In vivo biodistributions vary with the functionalization and possibly also size of nanotubes,with a tendency to accumulate in the reticuloendothelial system(RES),including the liver and spleen,after intravenous administration.If well functionalized,nanotubes may be excreted mainly through the biliary pathway in feces.Carbon nanotube-based drug delivery has shown promise in various In vitro and in vivo experiments including delivery of small interfering RNA(siRNA),paclitaxel and doxorubicin.Moreover,single-walled carbon nanotubes with various interesting intrinsic optical properties have been used as novel photoluminescence,Raman,and photoacoustic contrast agents for imaging of cells and animals.Further multidisciplinary explorations in this field may bring new opportunities in the realm of biomedicine. | Zhuang Liu Scott Tabakman Kevin Welsher Hongjie Dai | 2009 | Nano Research2009,2,2: | 50 |

| 5 | Nano-formulations for transdermal drug delivery:A review显示文摘Transdermal drug delivery refers to a means of delivering drugs through the surface of the skin for local or systemic treatment. The drug functions after absorption through the skin into the systemic circulation via capillary action at a certain rate. Use of traditional physical and chemical enhancers to improve the transdermal permeation rate by increasing drug solubility, diffusion coefficient, and reservoir effect is not feasible owing to the toxic side effects of the overuse of chemical penetration enhancers. Nanoformulations generally vary in size and range from 10 nm to 100 nm. The smaller particle size leads to increased drug permeability, stability, retention, and targeting, making nano-formulations suitable for transdermal drug delivery. The different applications of nano-formulations(vesicles or nanoparticles and nanoemulsions) have been widely studied. | 6 | Disentangling the effects of topography and space on the distributions of dominant species in a subtropical forest显示文摘Topography and space are two important factors determining plant species assemblages in forest communities.Quantification of the contribution of these two factors in determining species distribution helps us to evaluate their relative importance in determining species assemblages.This study aims to disentangle the effect of topography and space on the distributions of 14 dominant species in a subtropical mixed forest.Spearman correlation analysis and the torustranslation test were used to test the species–habitat associations.Variation partitioning was used to quantify the relative contributions of topography and space at three sampling scales and three life stages.Correlation analyses and torus-translation tests showed species abundance was mostly correlated with topographic wetness index,vertical distance from the channel network and convexity.Variation partitioning showed that pure topography,pure space and spatially structured topography explained about 2.1 %,41.2 % and 13.8 %of the variation in species distributions,respectively.For nine species,total topography fractions peaked in 20 m quadrats.For ten species,the pure space fractions peaked in 50 m quadrats.For many species,the total topography fraction andthe pure space fraction were larger for the most abundant life stages,which reflected the importance of sampling effect.However,some cases did not follow this trend suggesting that the effects of ecological processes such as habitat filtering,density dependence or dispersal limitation may exceed the sampling effects.In conclusion,we found that spatially structured topography and pure space primarily shaped the distribution of dominant tree species.Furthermore,their effects were both scale- and life stage-dependent. | Qinggang Wang Yaozhan Xu Zhijun Lu Dachuan Bao Yili Guo Junmeng Lu Kuihan Zhang Haibo Liu Hongjie Meng Xiujuan Qiao Handong Huang Mingxi Jiang | 2014 | Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,35: | 16 |

| 9 | Preparation of organically functionalized silica gel as adsorbent for copper ion adsorption显示文摘A novel adsorbent (AMPS-silica) was synthesized by bounding AMPS (2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid) onto silica surface, which functioned with γ-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane reagent. The adsorbent was characterized by nitrogen adsorption/desorption measurement, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and potentiometric titration analysis. The TGA result indicated that the surface modification reactions introduced some organic functional groups onto the surface of silica. The surface area of AMPSsilica was 389.7 m2/g. The adsorbent was examined for copper ion removal in series of batch adsorption experiments. Results showed that the adsorption of Cu2+ onto AMPS-silica was pH dependent, and the adsorption capacity increased with increasing pH from 2 to 6. The adsorption kinetics showed that Cu2+ adsorption was fast and the data fitted well with a pseudo secondorder kinetic model. The adsorption of Cu2+ onto AMPS-silica obeyed both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms, with r2 = 0.993 and r2 = 0.984, respectively. The maximum Cu2+ adsorption capacity was 19.9 mg/g. The involved mechanism might be the adsorption through metal binding with organic functional groups such as carboxyl, amino and sulfonic groups. | 10 | Aligned Graphene Nanoribbons and Crossbars from Unzipped Carbon Nanotubes显示文摘Aligned graphene nanoribbon (GNR) arrays have been made by unzipping of aligned single-walled and few-walled carbon nanotube (CNT) arrays. Nanotube unzipping was achieved by a polymer-protected Ar plasma etching method, and the resulting nanoribbon array can be transferred onto any chosen substrate. Atomic force microscope (AFM) imaging and Raman mapping on the same CNTs before and after unzipping confirmed that ~80% of CNTs were opened up to form single layer sub-10 nm GNRs. Electrical devices made from the GNRs (after annealing in H2 at high temperature) showed on/off current (Ion/Ioff) ratios up to 103 at room temperature, suggesting the semiconducting nature of the narrow GNRs. Novel GNR-GNR and GNR-CNT crossbars were fabricated by transferring GNR arrays across GNR and CNT arrays, respectively. | 11 | RESUSPENSION METHOD FOR ROAD SURFACE DUST COLLECTION AND AERODYNAMIC SIZE DISTRIBUTION CHARACTERIZATION显示文摘Traffic-generated fugitive dust is a source of urban atmospheric particulate pollution in Beijing. This paper introduces the resuspension method, recommended by the US EPA in AP-42 documents, for collecting Beijing road-surface dust. Analysis shows a single-peak distribution in the number size distribution and a double-peak mode for mass size distribution of the road surface dust. The median diameter of the mass concentration distribution of the road dust on a high-grade road was higher than that on a low-grade road. The ratio of PM2.5 to PM10 was consistent with that obtained in a similar study for Hong Kong. For the two selected road samples, the average relative deviation of the size distribution was 10.9% and 11.9%. | 13 | Protective effect of Yiguanjian decoction against DNA damage on concanavalin A-induced liver injury mice model显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To investigate the inhibitory effect of Yiguanjian decoction(YD) on DNA damage in Concanavalin A(Con A)-induced liver injury mice model and to explain the possible mechanism.METHODS:Totally 120 male BALB/c mice were randomly divided into 6 groups,20 mice each:normal group,model group,Bifendate group,YD low dose group,YD middle dose group and YD high dose group.Except normal group,liver injury model induced by Con A was established.While modeling,each mouse in YD group was given YD(0.4 m L/20 g per day) by intragastric administration(0.13 g YD for YD low dose group;0.26 g for YD middle dose group;0.52 g for YD high dose group).Bifendate group was given Bifendate(0.2 gnd model·kg-1 grou·d-1) by gavage.Normal group ap were fed with same volume of physiological saline daily.After 8 weeks,the serum alanine transaminase(ALT)and aspartate transaminase(AST) were tested.The hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to evaluate the grade of liver inflammation and liver fibrosis stage.Hepatocellular DNA damage was detected by single cell gel electrophoresis technology.The protein expression of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),Bax and Mut T Homolog 1(MTH1) was detected by western blotting and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay.Bax m RNA and MTH1 m RNA were detected by Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction(PCR).RESULTS:YD can improve the degree of liver inflammation and fibrosis in the liver of chronic hepatitis mice,the dose effect relationship is remarkable(P < 0.05).YD can reduce liver cell DNA damage.The difference between YD middle dose group and model group was statistically significant(P < 0.05).YD middle dose group had decreased the protein expression of TNF-α in the mice liver of immunological liver injury(P < 0.05).YD can increase the protein expression of Bax(P < 0.05).Compared with normal group,the protein expression of MTH1 was decreased(P < 0.05),but there was no statistical significance between YD group and model group(P >0.05).YD can increase the m RNA expression of Bax and MTH1(both P < 0.05).CONCLUSION:YD can effectively inhibit the DNA damage in immunological liver injury mice,the mechanism may be that it can decrease the TNF-αand increase the Bax and MTH1 expression. | Tian Mengxi Liu Wenlan You Hongjie Zhao Qingzhou Ouyang Luodan Gao Biane Zhang Xin Che Niancong | 2016 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2016,36,4: | 7 |
| 14 | Transferrin receptor and ferritin-H are developmentally regulated in oligodendrocyte lineage cells显示文摘Iron is an essential trophic element that is required for cell viability and differentiation, especially in oligodendrocytes, which consume relatively high rates of energy to produce myelin. Multiple iron metabolism proteins are expressed in the brain including transferrin receptor and ferritin-H. However, it is still unknown whether they are developmentally regulated in oligodendrocyte lineage cells for myelination. Here, using an in vitro cultured differentiation model of oligodendrocytes, we found that both transferrin receptor and ferritin-H are significantly upregulated during oligodendrocyte maturation, implying the essential role of iron in the development of oligodendrocytes. Additional different doses of Fe3+ in the cultured medium did not affect oligodendrocyte precursor cell maturation or ferritin-H expression but decreased the expression of the transferrin receptor. | 15 | Hierarchical nanostructured composite cathode with carbon nanotubes as conductive scaffold for lithium-sulfur batteries显示文摘Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are excellent scaffolds for advanced electrode materials, resulting from their intrinsic sp2 carbon hybridization, interconnected electron pathway, large aspect ratio, hierarchical porous structures, and low cost at a large-scale production. How to make full utilization of the mass produced CNTs as building blocks for nanocomposite electrodes is not well understood yet. Herein, a composite cathode containing commercial agglomerated multi-walled CNTs and S for Li-S battery was fabricated by a facile melt-diffusion strategy. The hierarchical CNT@S coaxial nanocables exhibited a discharging capacity of 1020 and 740 mAh g-1 at 0.5 and 2.0 C, respectively. A rapid capacity decay of 0.7% per cycle at the initial 10 cycles and a slow decay rate of 0.14% per cycle for the later 140 cycles were detected. | 16 | A vacuole localized β-glucosidase contributes to drought tolerance in Arabidopsis显示文摘The phytohormone abscisic acid (ABA) plays a critical role in plant growth, development, and adaptation to various stress conditions. The cellular ABA level is constantly adjusted to respond to changing physiological and environmental conditions. To date, the mechanisms for fine-tuning ABA levels remain elusive. Here, we report that BGLU10, a member of a multigene family of β-glucosidases, contributes to drought tolerance in Arabidopsis. The T-DNA insertion mutant bglu10 exhibited a droughtsensitive phenotype, characterized by an increased rate of water loss, and lower leaf temperature, β-glucosidase activity, ABA content, and expressions of ABA-and drought-responsive genes under drought stress. In contrast, lines overexpressing BGLU10 showed greater drought resistance than that of the wild-type, as shown by decreased water loss via transpiration, higher β-glucosidase activity, ABA level, and expressions of ABA- and stress-responsive genes under drought stress. Transient expression of BGLU10::GFP and γ-TIP1::RFP in mesophyll cell protoplasts showed that the BGLU10 enzyme protein was localized to the vacuole. | 17 | The force of oblique incident wave on the breakwater with a partially perforated wall显示文摘Wave forces induced by the interaction between the oblique incident wave and the breakwater with a partially perforated front wall isinvestigated. The fluid domain is divided into two sub-domains and the eigen-function expansion method is applied to expanding ve-locity potentials in each domain. In the eigen-expansion of the velocity potential, evanescent waves are included. Numerical results ofthe present model are compared with other theories and a good agreement can be found between them. Experimental data have beencompared with the present theoretical results. The effect of the traverse wall on wave forces has been discussed in detail. | 18 | High manure load reduces bacterial diversity and network complexity in a paddy soil under crop rotations显示文摘Long-term application of chemical fertilizers causes soil degradation and nitrogen(N)loss,but these effects could be alleviated by organic fertilizers.In addition,crop rotation is a feasible practice to increase soil fertility,soil quality and crop yields comparing with monocultural cropping patterns.However,questions remain concerning how the soil microbiome responds to different manure application rates under crop rotations.Here,we collected soil samples from a rice-rape system to investigate the response of the soil microbiome to nine years of pig manure application at different rates(CK:0 kg ha^(-1),M1:1930 kg ha^(-1),M2:3860 kg ha^(-1) and M3:5790 kg ha^(-1)).Our results revealed that the bacterialα-diversity(Chao1 and Shannon index)in the rape season increased first and then decreased with increasing manure application rates,and a high manure load tended to decrease the bacterialα-diversity in the rice season.Long-term manure application enriched some copiotrophic bacteria,such as Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria,while it decreased the relative abundance of Nitrospirae.Redundancy analysis(RDA)and the Mantel test indicated that soil pH,TC,TN,AP,C/P and N/P ratios were the main factors influencing bacterial communities.Moreover,network analysis showed that a low manure application rate shaped a complexly connected and stable bacterial community,while higher manure application rate decreased the stability of the bacterial network.These findings improve our understanding of bacterial responses to longterm manure application under crop rotations and their relationships with soil factors,especially in the context of increasing fertilizer inputs. | Haiyang Liu Xing Huang Wenfeng Tan Hongjie Di Jianming Xu Yong Li | 2020 | Soil Ecology Letters2020,2,2: | 6 |
| 19 | Dynamic analysis on pressure fluctuation in vaneless region of a pump turbine显示文摘As the pump turbine tends to be operated with high head and high rotational speed, the study of stability problems becomes more important. The pump turbine usually works at operating conditions where the guide vanes experience strong vibrations. However, most traditional studies were carried out based on constant GVO(guide vane opening) simulations. In this work, dynamic analysis on pressure fluctuation in the vaneless region of a pump turbine model was conducted using a dynamic mesh method in turbine mode. 3D unsteady simulations were conducted where GVO was closed and opened by 1° from the initial 18°. Detailed time domain and frequency domain characteristics on pressure fluctuation in the vaneless region under different guide vane rotational states compared with constant GVO simulations were investigated. Results show that, during the guide vanes oscillating process, the low and intermediate frequency components in the vaneless region are significantly different. The amplitudes of pressure fluctuation are higher than those with constant GVO simulations, which agree better with the experimental data. In addition, the pressure fluctuation increases when GVO is opened, and vice versa. | 20 | Effects of the Fhb1 gene on Fusarium head blight resistance and agronomic traits of winter wheat显示文摘The gene Fhb1 has been used in many countries to improve wheat Fusarium head blight(FHB) resistance. To make better use of this gene in the Yellow-Huai River Valleys Winter Wheat Zone(YHWZ), the most important wheat-producing region of China, it is desirable to elucidate its effects on FHB resistance and agronomic traits in different genetic backgrounds. Based on a diagnostic marker for Fhb1, six BC2 populations were developed by crossing dwarf-male-sterile(DMS)-Zhoumai 16 to three Fhb1 donors(Ningmai 9, Ningmai 13, and Jianyang 84) and backcrossing to Zhoumai 16 and Zhoumai16’s derivative cultivars(Lunxuan 136 and Lunxuan 13) using marker-assisted backcross breeding. The progenies were assessed for FHB resistance and major agronomic traits.The Fhb1 alleles were identified using the gene-specific molecular marker. The plants with the Fhb1-resistant genotype(Fhb1-R) in these populations showed significantly fewer infected spikelets than those with the Fhb1-susceptible genotype(Fhb1-S). When Lunxuan 136 was used as the recurrent parent, Fhb1-R plants showed significantly fewer infected spikelets per spike than Fhb1-R plants produced using Lunxuan 13 as the recurrent parent, indicating that the genetic backgrounds of Fhb1 influence the expression of FHB resistance. Fhb1-R plants from the DMS-Zhoumai 16/Ningmai 9//Zhoumai 16/3/Lunxuan 136 population showed the highest FHB resistance among the six populations and a significantly higher level of FHB resistance than the moderately susceptible control Huaimai 20. No significant phenotypic differences between Fhb1-R and Fhb1-S plants were observed for the eight agronomic traits investigated.
