| 1 | Development of land use transitions research in China显示文摘With the introduction of the concept of land use transition into China,related researches have been carried out extensively in the past two decades,which enrich the knowledge of land system science.This paper describes the development of research on land use transitions in China from the perspectives of conceptual connotations,theoretical model,research methods,and research progress and prospects.With the in-depth investigation of land use transitions,the concept and connotations of land use morphology are developed and encapsulated as two kinds,i.e.,dominant morphology and recessive morphology.The dominant morphology refers to the land use structure of a certain region over a certain period of time,with features such as the quantity and spatial pattern of land use types.While the recessive morphology includes the land use features in the aspects of quality,property rights,management mode,input,output and function.Accordingly,the concept of land use transition is further developed,and the theoretical model of regional land use transitions is established.Thereafter,three innovative integrated approaches to study land use transitions are put forward,i.e.,multidisciplinary research framework for recessive land use transition,transect and horizontal comparison.To date,there have been 62 Ph.D.and 166 M.S.dissertations on the topic of'land use transition'in China.During 2002–2019,the National Natural Science Foundation of China has funded 48 research programs on the theme of'land use transition'.As such,the Chinese scholars have adapted the concept derived from western literature to the situations and experiences in China. | LONG Hualou QU Yi TU Shuangshuang ZHANG Yingnan JIANG Yanfeng | 2020 | Journal of Geographical Sciences2020,30,7: | 15 |

| 7 | Desertification: China provides a solution to a global challenge显示文摘Desertification has been caused by various factors and is a major environmental problem and development bottleneck faced by the world. It is also a serious threat to ecological security and to sustainable economic and social development. As a stubborn world problem, focused on by the United Nations 2030 sustainable development goal 15.3, China aims to combat desertification by implementing the 'eight-column fourbeam' strategy, and also suggest the 'four-medicine'approach for global desertification governance. | 8 | Long-term straw incorporation increases rice yield stability under high fertilization level conditions in the rice–wheat system显示文摘Straw incorporation is a global common practice to improve soil fertility and rice yield.However,the effect of straw incorporation on rice yield stability is still unknown,especially under high fertilization level conditions.Here,we reported the effect of straw returning on rice yield and yield stability under high fertilization levels in the rice–wheat system over nine years.The results showed that straw incorporation did not significantly affect the average rice yield of nine years.Straw incorporation reduced the coefficient of variation of rice yield by 25.8%and increased the sustainable yield index by 8.2%.The rice yield positively correlated with mean photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) of rice growth season and the effects of straw incorporation on rice yield depended on the PAR.Straw incorporation increased the rice yield by 5.4%in the low PAR years,whereas it did not affect the rice yield in the high PAR years.Long-term straw incorporation lowered soil bulk density but improved the soil organic matter,total N,available N,available P,and available K more strongly than straw removal.Our findings suggest that straw incorporation can increase rice yield stability through improving the resistance of rice plant growth to low PAR. | Jianwei Zhang Weiwei Li Yan Zhou Yanfeng Ding Lei Xu Yu Jiang Ganghua Li | 2021 | The Crop Journal2021,9,5: | 3 |

| 10 | Impact of diabetes on prognosis of gastric cancer patients performed with gastrectomy显示文摘Objective: This study aimed to determine the impact of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2 DM) on clinical outcomes of gastric cancer(GC) patients and explore whether metformin use and good glycemic control could reverse it.Methods: Clinicopathologic data of consecutive GC patients who underwent gastrectomy at Nanfang Hospital between October 2004 and December 2015 were included. Propensity score matching(PSM) was performed to balance the important factors of the disease status between non-T2 DM and T2 DM group. The last follow-up time was January 2019.Results: A total of 1,692 eligible patients(1,621 non-T2 DM vs. 71 T2 DM) were included. After PSM, nonT2 DM group(n=139) and T2 DM group(n=71) were more balanced in baseline variables. The 5-year cancerspecific survival(CSS) rate in T2 DM group(47.0%) was inferior to that in non-T2 DM group(58.0%), but did not reach statistical significance [hazard ratio(HR)=1.319, 95% confidence interval(95% CI): 0.868-2.005, P=0.192].While the 5-year progress-free survival(PFS) rate of T2 DM group(40.6%) is significantly worse than that in nonT2 DM group(56.3%)(HR=1.516, 95% CI: 1.004-2.290, P=0.045). Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that T2 DM was an independent risk factor for PFS but not for CSS. In T2 DM group, metformin use subgroup was associated with superior 5-year CSS and PFS in compared with non-metformin use subgroup, although the difference was not statistically significant(5-year CSS: 48.0% vs. 45.4%, HR=0.680, 95% CI: 0.352-1.313,P=0.246;5-year PFS: 43.5% vs. 35.7%, HR=0.763, 95% CI: 0.400-1.454, P=0.406). The 5-year CSS rate was47.5% in good glycemic control subgroup and 44.1% in poor glycemic control subgroup(HR=0.826, 95% CI:0.398-1.713, P=0.605). And both two subgroups yielded a similar 5-year PFS rate(42.2% vs. 36.3%, HR=0.908,95% CI: 0.441-1.871, P=0.792).Conclusions: DM promoted disease progress of GC after gastrectomy but had not yet led to the significant discrepancy of CSS. | 17 | Coping with extremes:lowered myocardial phosphofructokinase activities and glucose content but increased fatty acids content in highland Eurasian Tree Sparrows显示文摘Background:Efficient and selective utilization of metabolic substrates is one of the key strategies in high-altitude animals to cope with hypoxia and hypothermia.Previous findings have shown that the energy substrate utilization of highland animals varies with evolutionary history and phylogeny.The heart is a proxy for the cardiopulmonary system,and the metabolic substrate utilization in the myocardium is also under the strong selective pressure of chronically hypoxic and hypothermic environments.However,little information is available on the physiological adjustments in relation to metabolic substrate utilization in the myocardium for coping with high-altitude environments.Methods:We compared the metabolic enzyme activities,including hexokinase(HK),phosphofructokinase(PFK),pyruvate kinase(PK),citrate synthase(CS),carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1(CPT-1),lactic dehydrogenase(LDH),and creatine kinase(CK),and metabolic substrate contents including glucose(Glu),triglyceride(TG),and free fatty acid(FFA)in the myocardium of a typical human commensal species,Eurasian Tree Sparrows(Passer montanus)between the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(the QTP,3230 m)and low altitude population(Shijiazhuang,80 m),and between sexes.Results:Among the seven metabolic enzymes and three substrates investigated,we identified no significant differences in PK,CPT-1,HK,CS,LDH,and CK activities and TG content of the myocardium between high and low altitude populations.However,the QTP sparrows had significantly lower Glu content and PFK activities but higher FFA content relative to their lowland counterparts.In addition,male sparrows had higher myocardial HK and CS activities relative to females,independent of altitude.Conclusions:Our results showed that the QTP sparrows elevated fatty acid utilization rather than glucose preference in the myocardium relative to lowland counterpart,which contributes to uncovering both the physiological adjustments for adapting to the extreme conditions of the QTP,intraspecifically. | Boyang Ding Yuliang Zhao Yanfeng Sun Qian Zhang Mo Li Ghulam Nabi Yuefeng Wu Chuan Jiang Dongming Li | 2021 | Avian Research2021,12,4: | 1 |
