Expansion of the Cathaysian Oldland through the Ordovician-Silurian transition:Emerging evidence and possible dynamics显示文摘Located northwest of the Jiangshan-Shaoxing Fault Zone, western and northwestern Zhejiang and northeastern Jiangxi provinces experienced major changes in bio-and litho-facies and paleogeography through the Ordovician-Silurian transition (late Katian,Hirnantian, and early Rhuddanian),as manifested by stratigraphic, paleontologic and synecologic records.Three geographic units under consideration are South,Central, and North areas. The western margin of the South area was occupied by the Huaiyu Mountains, whereas the other two parts were covered by the Zhe-Gan Sea during late Katian (Late Ordovician) time.In the early stage of the Changwu Formation deposition (late Katian),the sea was deepening northeastward, but with shallower conditions in the southwest and deeper conditions in the northeast.During mid to late stages of Changwu Formation deposition (latest Katian),the sea became much shallower and the sea bottom was uplifted substantially, which occurred somewhat prior to the global trend.During the Hirnantian (latest Ordovician) and early Rhuddanian (earliest Silurian),the study region became a shallow bay under expansion of the Cathaysian Oldland. There occurred a major drop of sea level and great changes in benthic biota with the occurrence of many new immigrants through the Ordovician-Silurian transition, which are closely related to a unique regional orogeny. The Yangtze and Cathaysian blocks may have amalgamated within the South China Paleoplate during this interval to cause the continuous uplifting and northwestward expansion of the Cathaysian Oldland.RONG JiaYu ZHAN RenBin XU HongGen HUANG Bing YU GuoHua 2010Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,1:37
The role of the gut microbiome and its metabolites in metabolic diseases显示文摘It is well known that an unhealthy lifestyle is a major risk factor for metabolic diseases, while in recent years, accumulating evidence has demonstrated that the gut microbiome and its metabolites also play a crucial role in the onset and development of many metabolic diseases, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, cardiovascular disease and so on.Numerous microorganisms dwell in the gastrointestinal tract, which is a key interface for energy acquisition and can metabolize dietary nutrients into many bioactive substances, thus acting as a link between the gut microbiome and its host. The gut microbiome is shaped by host genetics, immune responses and dietary factors. The metabolic and immune potential of the gut microbiome determines its significance in host health and diseases. Therefore, targeting the gut microbiome and relevant metabolic pathways would be effective therapeutic treatments for many metabolic diseases in the near future. This review will summarize information about the role of the gut microbiome in organism metabolism and the relationship between gut microbiome-derived metabolites and the pathogenesis of many metabolic diseases.Furthermore, recent advances in improving metabolic diseases by regulating the gut microbiome will be discussed.Jiayu Wu Kai Wang Xuemei Wang Yanli Pang Changtao Jiang 2021Protein & Cell2021,12,5:40
Antidiabetic Effects of Gegen Qinlian Decoction via the Gut Microbiota Are Attributable to Its Key Ingredient Berberine显示文摘Gegen Qinlian Decoction(GQD),a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)formula, has long been used for the treatment of common metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, the main limitation of its wider application is ingredient complexity of this formula. Thus,it is critically important to identify the major active ingredients of GQD and to illustrate mechanisms underlying its action. Here,we compared the effects of GQD and berberine,a hypothetical key active pharmaceutical ingredient of GQD,on a diabetic rat model by comprehensive analyses of gut microbiota,short-chain fatty acids, proinflammatory cytokines, and ileum transcriptomics. Our results show that berberine and GQD had similar effects on lowering blood glucose levels, modulating gut microbiota, inducing ileal gene expression,as well as relieving systemic and local inflammation. As expected, both berberine and GQD treatment significantly altered the overall gut microbiota structure and enriched many butyrate-producing bacteria, including Faecalibacterium and Roseburia, thereby attenuating intestinal inflammation and lowering glucose.Levels of short-chain fatty acids in rat feces were also significantly elevated after treatment with berberine or GQD.Moreover, concentration of serum proinflammatory cytokines and expression of immune-related genes, including Nfkb1,Stat1,and Ifnrg1,in pancreatic islets were significantly reduced after treatment. Our study demonstrates that the main effects of GQD can be attributed to berberine via modulating gut microbiota. The strategy employed would facilitate further standardization and widespread application of TCM in many diseases.Xizhan Xu Zezheng Gao Fuquan Yang Yingying Yang Liang Chen Lin Han Na Zhao Jiayue Xu Xinmiao Wang Yue Ma Lian Shu Xiaoxi Hu Na Lyu Yuanlong Pan Baoli Zhu Linhua Zhao Xiaolin Tong Jun Wang 2020Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2020,18,6:29

Tracking shallow marine red beds through geological time as exemplified by the lower Telychian (Silurian) in the Upper Yangtze Region,South China显示文摘Marine red beds occur frequently in China through geological time.Despite their complex environments, the red beds are found in three depositional settings:1) oceanic, deep water,as in the Upper Cretaceous of southern Tibet;2) outer shelf, deeper water,as in the Lower-Middle Ordovician of South China;and 3) inner shelf, shallow water,as in the Silurian and Triassic in South China. The Silurian marine red beds are recurrent in the lower Telychian, upper Telychian, and upper Ludlow. This paper is to document the marine nature of the lower Telychian red beds (LRBs) in the Upper Yangtze Region and to discuss the spatial and temporal distribution of the LRBs and their depositional environments. The LRBs are best developed on the north side of the Cathaysian Oldland, which can be interpreted as the source area.It is inferred that they were deposited during a marine regression, characterized by the lack of upwelling, low nutrition and organic productivity with a decrease of biodiversity and a high rate of sedimentation. The iron-rich sediments may have been transported by rivers on the oldland into the Upper Yangtze Sea,as rates of deposition were rapid enough to counteract normal reducing effect around sediment-water interface. The LRBs are different from the off-shore,deeper water red beds of lower Telychian in Avalonia and Baltica and further from the oceanic, deep water red beds of Upper Cretaceous in southern Tibet chiefly in palaeogeographic settings, biotic assemblages and marine environments.RONG JiaYu WANG Yi ZHANG XiaoLe 2012Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,5:25
Geological constraints of giant and medium-sized gas fields in Kuqa Depression显示文摘There is a gas-rich and well-charged petroleumsystem in the Kuqa Depression where Triassic and Jurassicsource rocks play important roles. Distributed in an area ofmore than 10000 km and with a thickness of up to 1000 m,they are composed of dark mudstones, carbonaceous mud-stones and coal seams containing 6%, 40% and 90% of TOC,respectively, and are mainly the humic organic matter. Ashigh-quality regional cap rocks, the Neogene and Eogenegypsum rocks and gypseous mudstones matched well withthe underlying Neogene and Cretaceous-Eogene sandstones. They have formed the most favorable reservoir-seal assem-blages in the Kuqa Depression. Also the Jurassic sandstonesand mudstones formed another favorable reservoir-seal as-semblage. The traps are shaped late in the fold-thrust belt, mainly fixed in the Tertiary-Quaternary, where ten structurestyles have been distinguished. These traps spread as a zonein N-S, are scattered like a segmental line in W-E and showtier-styled vertically. The best traps are gypsum-salt coveredfault-bend anticlines related to the passive roof duplex. Thispetroleum system is characterized by late accumulation. Inthe early Himalayan Movement, mainly gas condensate andoil accumulated and were distributed in the outer circularregion of the kitchen; whereas in the middle and late Hima-layan the gas accumulations mainly formed and were dis-tributed in the inner circular region near the kitchen. Theoverpressure of gas pools is common and is formed by sealcapacity of thick gypsum layers, extensive tectonic compres-sion and large uplift. The well-preserved anticline traps un-derlying the high-quality regional cap rocks of the Tertiarygypsum rocks and gypseous mudstones are the main targetsfor the discovery of giant and medium-sized gas fields. Aboveconclusions are important for the petroleum geology theoryand the exploration of the fold-thrust belt in foreland basinsin central and western China.JIA Chengzao GU Jiayu ZHANG Guangya 2002Chinese Science Bulletin2002,47,S1:17
The Central Guizhou and Yi-chang uplifts, Upper Yangtze region, between Ordovician and Silurian显示文摘The Central Guizhou and Yichang Uplifts are present in central Guizhou to western Hubei. Biostrati-graphic evidences from more than 20 sections in 14 counties of this region provide the data about the duration of these uplifts. Although this duration differs from locality to locality, it is mainly from Ashgillian to Rhuddanian. The uplifts result from a horizontally driven movement to the South China Paleoplate from an uncertain block in southeast. Global sea-level drop during the end of the Ordovician made the uplifts obvious, particularly the Central Guizhou Uplift. It might have emerged above sea level in the short interval between the Ordovician and Silurian.CHEN Xu RONG Jiayu ZHOU Zhiyi ZHANG Yuandong ZHAN Renbin LIU Jianbo FAN Junxuan 2001Chinese Science Bulletin2001,46,18:17
Design strategies for two-dimensional material photodetectors to enhance device performance显示文摘Two-dimensional(2D)materials are intensively attractive for fabricating high sensitive photodetectors in terms of atomically thin flexible and ultrafast charge transport feature.Due to their atomically thin body, designing high performance detector requires new physical mechanisms and device structures. In this review,we classify design strategies and device structures into four categories depending on their physical mechanisms(photovoltaic effect, photoconductive effect, photothermoelectric effect or photobolometric effect, and surface plasma-wave-assisted effect),and summarize the device performances. Finally, future prospects and development direction for 2D material photodetectors are described. Those design strategies descriptions about photoelectronic detector provide a reference for high responsivity and fast response speed photodetector at broadband sensing in the future.Jun Wang Jiayue Han Xiaoqing Chen Xinran Wang 2019InfoMat2019,1,1:16
The prognostic and therapeutic implications of circulating tumor cell phenotype detection based on epithelial-mesenchymal transition markers in the first-line chemotherapy of HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer显示文摘Background:Epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)is implicated in the metastatic process and presents a chal-lenge to epithelial cell adhesion molecule-based detection of circulating tumor cells(CTCs),which have been demon-strated to be a prognostic indicator in metastatic breast cancer.Although evidence has indicated that heterogeneity of CTCs based on EMT markers is associated with disease progression,no standard recommendations have been established for clinical practice. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of dynamic CTC detection based on EMT for metastatic breast cancer patients. Methods:We enrolled 108 human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative metastatic breast cancer patients from the prospective phase III CAMELLIA study and applied the CanPatrol CTC enrichment technique to identify CTC phenotypes(including epithelial CTCs,biphenotypic epithelial/mesenchymal CTCs,and mesenchymal CTCs)in peripheral blood samples.Receiver operating characteristic curve analyses of total CTC count and the proportion of mesenchymal CTCs for predicting the 1-year progression-free survival(PFS)rate were conducted to determine the optimal cut-off values, and Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazards regression analysis were performed to investigate the prognostic value of the cut-off values of both total CTC count and the proportion of mesenchymal CTCs in combination. Results:For predicting the 1-year PFS rate, the optimal cut-off value of total CTC count was 9.5(Area under the curve[AUC]=0.538,95%confidence interval[CI]=0.418-0.657),and that of the proportion of mesenchymal CTCs was 10.7%(AUC=0.581,95%CI=0.463-0.699).We used the two cut-off values in combination to forecast PFS in which the total CTC count was equaled to or exceeded 10/5 mL with the proportion of mesenchymal CTCs surpassed 10.7%.Patients who met the combined criteria had significantly shorter median PFS than did those who did not meet the criteria(6.2 vs.9.9 months,P=0.010).A nomogram was constructed based on the criteria and significant clinicopatho-logical characteristics with a C-index of 0.613(P=0.010).Conclusions: The criteria, which combine the total CTC count and the proportion of mesenchymal CTCs, may be used to monitor therapeutic resistance and predict prognosis in patients with metastatic breast cancer.Xiuwen Guan Fei Ma Chunxiao Li Shiyang Wu Shangying Hu Jiefen Huang Xiaoying Sun Jiayu Wang Yang Luo Ruigang Cai Ying Fan Qiao Li Shanshan Chen Pin Zhang Qing Li Binghe Xu 2019Cancer Communications2019,39,1:15
The interaction among gut microbes, the intestinal barrier and short chain fatty acids显示文摘The mammalian gut is inhabited by a massive and complicated microbial community, in which the hostachieves a stable symbiotic environment through the interdependence, coordination, reciprocal constraintsand participation in an immune response. The interaction between the host gut and themicrobiota is essential for maintaining and achieving the homeostasis of the organism. Consequently, guthomeostasis is pivotal in safeguarding the growth and development and potential productive performanceof the host. As metabolites of microorganisms, short chain fatty acids are not only the preferredenergy metabolic feedstock for host intestinal epithelial cells, but also exert vital effects on antioxidantsand the regulation of intestinal community homeostasis. Herein, we summarize the effects of intestinalmicroorganisms on the host gut and the mechanisms of action of short chain fatty acids on the fourintestinal barriers of the organism, which will shed light on the manipulation of the intestinal communityto achieve precise nutrition for specific individuals and provide a novel perspective for theprevention and treatment of diseases.Jiayu Ma Xiangshu Piao Shad Mahfuz Shenfei Long Jian Wang 2022Animal Nutrition2022,,2:15
Early-Mid Ordovician brachiopod diversification in South China显示文摘Affected by paleogeographic position, paleoclimatic condition and depositional environments, the increase of the Early-Mid Ordovician brachiopod diversity of South China commenced at the beginning of the Ordovician (early Tremadoc), accelerated from the Tetra- graptus approximatus Biozone (base of Arenig), and reached its first acme in the Didymograptus eobifidus Biozone (mid early Arenig) when the number of brachiopod genera was over 7 times as great as that at the start of the Ordovician. This was the first radiation in the history of brachiopod macroevolution in South China, which occurred nearly 5 graptolitic biozones earlier than the global trend of the great Ordovician biodiversification (in the lower part of the Undulograptus austrodentatus Biozone). It is also characterized by (1) the origination or first occurrences of some major groups, such as the punctate dalmanelloids and the pseudopunctate stro- phomenoids including Plectambonitoidea (cardinal process simple or absent) and Stro- phomenoidea (cardinal process bilobed) in South China; (2) niche expansion, particularly in the first occupation of deeper water benthic regimes by the Euorthisina-Nocturnellia Association developed at Houping, Chengkou, northern Chongqing; and (3) the differentiation of brachiopod faunas under different environmental conditions. The gradual and increasing separation from Gondwana may have been one of the factors responsible for the radiation in South China.ZHAN Renbin, RONG Jiayu, CHENG Jinhui & CHEN Pengfei Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences State Key Laboratory of Palaeobiology and Stratigraphy, Nanjing 210008, China 2005Science China Earth Sciences2005,48,5:14
Advancing application of mesenchymal stem cell-based bone tissue regeneration显示文摘Reconstruction of bone defects, especially the critical-sized defects, with mechanical integrity to the skeleton is important for a patient's rehabilitation, however,it still remains challenge.Utilizing biomaterials of human origin bone tissue for therapeutic purposes has provided a facilitated approach that closely mimics the critical aspects of natural bone tissue with regard to its properties. However, not only efficacious and safe but also costeffective and convenient are important for regenerative biomaterials to achieve clinical translation and commercial success.Advances in our understanding of regenerative biomaterials and their roles in new bone formation potentially opened a new frontier in the fast-growing field of regenerative medicine.Taking inspiration from the role and multicomponent construction of native extracellular matrix(ECM)for cell accommodation, the ECM-mimicking biomaterials and the naturally decellularized ECM scaffolds were used to create new tissues for bone restoration. On the other hand, with the going deep in understanding of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs),they have shown great promise to jumpstart and facilitate bone healing even in diseased microenvironments with pharmacology-based endogenous MSCs rescue/mobilization,systemic/local infusion of MSCs for cytotherapy,biomaterials-based approaches,cell-sheets/-aggregates technology and usage of subcellular vesicles of MSCs to achieve scaffolds-free or cell-free delivery system, all of them have been shown can improve MSCsmediated regeneration in preclinical studies and several clinical trials. Here, following an overview discussed autogenous/allogenic and ECM-based bone biomaterials for reconstructive surgery and applications of MSCsmediated bone healing and tissue engineering to further offer principles and effective strategies to optimize MSCs-based bone regeneration.Fengqing Shang Yang Yu Shiyu Liu Leiguo Ming Yongjie Zhang Zhifei Zhou Jiayu Zhao Yan Jin 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,3:13
Occurrence and distribution of antibiotic resistance genes in the sediments of the East China Sea bays显示文摘The coastal area of the East China Sea has experienced rapid urbanization and industrialization in China since 1980 s, resulting in severe pollution of its environments.Antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs) are regarded as a kind of emerging pollutant with potential high risk. The sediment samples were collected from Hangzhou Bay(HB),Xiangshan Bay(XB), and Taizhou Bay(TB) to investigate the spatial occurrence and distribution of 27 ARGs and class I integron–integrase gene(intI1) in the coastal area of the East China Sea. The PCR results showed the frequent presence of 11 ARGs and intI1 in the sediments of the three bays. The qPCR results further showed that sulfonamide resistance was the most prevalent ARG type and antibiotic target replacement and protection were the most important resistance mechanisms in the sediments. Regarding the subtype of ARGs, sulI, tetW, and dfrA13 were the most abundant ARGs, in which sulI was higher in TB(based on both the absolute and relative abundances) and dfrA13 was higher in HB(based on the relative abundances). The network analysis revealed that intI1 had significant correlations with tetC, sulI, sulII, and blaPSE-1. Oil was the key connected factor, which had positive connections with sulI, sulII, and blaPSE-1. In addition, the joint effect of heavy metals and nutrients & organic pollutants might be crucial for the fate of ARGs in the coastal sediments.Jiayu Chen Zhiguo Su Tianjiao Dai Bei Huang Qinglin Mu Yongming Zhang Donghui Wen 2019Journal of Environmental Sciences2019,31,7:13
GBSS-BINDING PROTEIN,encoding a CBM48 domain-containing protein, affects rice quality and yield^∞显示文摘The percentage of amylose in the endosperm of rice(Oryza sativa)largely determines grain cooking and eating qualities.Granule-bound starch synthase I(GBSSI)and GBSSII are responsible for amylose biosynthesis in the endosperm and leaf, respectively. Here,we identified OsGBP,a rice GBSS-binding protein that interacted with GBSSI and GBSSII in vitro and in vivo. The total starch and amylose contents in osgbp mutants were significantly lower than those of wild type in leaves and grains, resulting in reduced grain weight and quality. The carbohydrate-binding module 48(CBM48)domain present in the C-terminus of OsGBP is crucial for OsGBP binding to starch. In the osgbp mutant, the extent of GBSSI and GBSSII binding to starch in the leaf and endospermwas significantly lower than wild type. Our data suggest that OsGBP plays an important role in leaf and endosperm starch biosynthesis by mediating the binding of GBSS proteins to developing starch granules. This elucidation of the function of OsGBP enhances our understanding of the molecular basis of starch biosyn-thesis in rice and contributes information that can be potentially used for the genetic improvement of yield and grain quality.Wei Wang Xiangjin Wei Guiai Jiao Wenqiang Chen Yawen Wu Zhonghua Sheng Shikai Hu Lihong Xie Jiayu Wang Shaoqing Tang Peisong Hu 2020Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2020,62,7:12
