1In vitro degradation and biocompatibility evaluation of typical biodegradable metals (Mg/Zn/Fe) for the application of tracheobronchial stenosis显示文摘Tracheobronchial obstruction in children due to benign stenosis or tracheobronchomalacia still remains a challenging matter of concern.Currently,there is 10%–20%complication rate in clinical treatment.The nonbiodegradable property of silicone stents and nickel-titanium memory alloy stents take the primary responsibility for drawbacks including stimulating local granulation tissue proliferation,displacement,and stent-related infections.Permanent tracheobronchial stent will be a persistent foreign object for a long time,causing excessive secretion of tracheal mucosa,ulceration and even perforation,which is particularly unsuitable for young children with persistent tracheal growth.In this study,the degradation and biocompatibility performance of three typical biodegradable metals were investigated as potential tracheobronchial stent materials.The results exhibited that these materials showed different degradation behaviors in the simulating respiratory fluid environment compared with SBF.Except for pure iron group,high purity magnesium and zinc showed favorable cell adhesion and proliferation in three culture methodologies(direct culture,indirect culture and extraction culture).The proper corrosion rate and good biocompatibility indicated that high purity magnesium and zinc may be good candidates as tracheobronchial stent materials.Yangyang Li Jianglong Yan Wenhao Zhou Pan Xiong Pei Wang Wei Yuan Yufeng Zheng Yan Cheng 2019Bioactive Materials2019,4,1:8
2Pleniglacial millennium-scale climate variations in northern China based on records from the Salawusu River Valley显示文摘Situated in the Salawusu River Valley, southeast of China's Mu Us Desert, the MGS2 (Milanggouwan section) portion of the Milanggouwan stratigraphic section records 5.5 sedimentary cycles consisting of alternations between dune sand deposits and fluvial or lacustrine facies. We analyzed the grain-size and CaCO 3 distributions in MGS2, and found that Mz (mean particle diameter) and σ (standard deviation) displayed clear variations in peaks and valleys within different sedimentary facies. The CaCO 3 content averaged 0.4% in the dune sand deposits, 1.43% in the fluvial facies, and 8.82% in the lacustrine facies. Both the grain-size distribution and CaCO 3 contents, which equal the indicators for the alternation among the sedimentary facies, suggest the occurrence of 5.5 cycles. These results suggest that the observed cycles mainly resulted from fluctuations between a cold and dry winter monsoon climate and a warm and humid summer monsoon climate, and that the MGS2 portion experienced at least 5.5 fluctuations between these two extremes. 5Tissue engineered esophagus by copper——small intestinal submucosa graft for esophageal repair in a canine model显示文摘Acellular porcine small intestinal submucosa(SIS)has been used for esophagoplasty with success in a canine model.However,it did not lead to complete epithelialization.For better reconstruction,a cellular component is required.Moreover,promotion of angiogenesis with copper has been widely recognized by basic research as well as clinical studies.In this study,we have evaluated the feasibility and effectiveness of combined Cu and SIS(SIS-Cu patch)for the esophageal repair using a canine model.Eighteen male beagle dogs were subjected to surgical resection to produce cervical esophageal defects(5 cm in length,180°in range).SIS with Cu(5 or 25μmol L 1copper)or without Cu was patched on the esophageal defects.Barium esophagram and histology exam were carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the therapy.As shown,the SIS-Cu graft promoted re-epithelialization,re-vascularization and muscular regeneration.SIS-Cu patch is more effective than SIS alone for esophageal repair,and the SIS+25μmol L 1Cu group demonstrated additional advantages over the SIS+5μmol L 1Cu.TAN Bo WANG Min CHEN Xi HOU JiangLong CHEN XiaoHe WANG Yue LI-LING Jesse XIE HuiQi 2014Science China(Life Sciences)2014,57,2:3

14Experimental Study on Improvement Effects of Completely Weathered Phyllite Using Red Clay and Cement for High-Speed Railway Embankments显示文摘Completely weathered phyllite(CWP)has the characteristics of difficult compaction,low shear strength after compaction and large settlement after construction.The traditional improvement method using a single agent of red clay or cement for CWP satisfies the subgrade requirements for ordinary railway,but cannot meet the requirements of immediate strength and long-term post-construction settlement of high-speed railway at the same time.A series of experimental investigations were undertaken for the blended CWP soils,with three additives used.The first additive was red clay,the second was cement and the third was a combination of both red clay and cement at various portions.Results of consolidation test and shear strength test carried out for the treated CWP soils show that:1)The effect of cement on improving the compression modulus of CWP is much better than that of red clay;2)The settlement of an embankment of 10 m high formed by blended soil of CWP with 3%cement can be controlled within 15 mm,while the settlement will be 25.15 mm for the same embankment of blended soil of CWP with 40%red clay;3)The shear strength and ultimate bearing capacity of CWP improved by red clay are much better than those of 5%cement;4)The ultimate bearing capacity of CWP improved by 40%red clay is 3.42 times of that by 3%cement and 2.95 times by 5%cement.Furthermore,the bearing capacity of CWP when improved by red clay can meet railway subgrade requirements immediately after compaction,while cement improved CWP needs a curing time of 1 day or longer.This is an impediment to rapid construction process.The improvement mechanism of red clay is mainly filling effect and grading improvement effect,while the improvement mechanism of cement is mainly hardening reaction,which produces high strength material to cement.It is found that 40%red clay and 3%cement treated CWP,which is considered to be optimum,can meet the subgrade requirements of both immediate bearing capacity and long-term post-construction settlement for the high-speed railway.Xiushao Zhao Jianglong Rao Qijing Yang Yu Rong Zhitao Fu Zhiyao Wang Zixi Chen 2022Journal of Renewable Materials2022,10,5:1
15Research progress of p-type Fe-based skutterudite thermoelectric materials显示文摘Filled skutterudite is currently one of the most promising intermediate-temperature thermoelectric(TE)materials,having good thermoelectric transport performance and excellent mechanical properties.For the preparation of high-efficiency filled skutterudite TE devices,it is important to have p-and n-type filled skutterudite TE materials with matching performance.However,the current TE properties of p-type Fe-based filled skutterudite materials are worse than n-type filled skutterudite materials.Therefore,how to obtain high-performance p-type Fe-based filled skutterudite materials is the key to preparation of high-efficiency skutterudite-based TE devices.This review summarizes some methods for optimizing the thermal transport performance of p-type filled skutterudite materials at the atomic-molecular and nano-mesoscopic scale that have been used in recent years.These methods include doping,multi-atom filling,and use of low-dimensional structure and of nanocomposite.In addition,the synergistic optimization methods of the electrical and thermal transport parameters and advanced preparation technologies of p-type filled skutterudite materials in recent years are also briefly summarized.These optimizational methods and advanced preparation technologies can significantly improve the TE properties of p-type Fe-based filled skutterudite materials.Xin TONG Zhiyuan LIU Jianglong ZHU Ting YANG Yonggui WANG Ailin XIA 2021Frontiers of Materials Science2021,15,3:1
16Polyetheretherketone with citrate potentiated influx of copper boosts osteogenesis,angiogenesis,and bacteria-triggered antibacterial abilities显示文摘A well designed coating for polyetheretherketone(PEEK)implants can provide enough support to overcome crucial medical challenges,which are insufficient osseointegration and high rate of infection.Herein,we utilize the co-deposition of polydopamine(PDA)and copper-citrate nanoclusters to construct a p H-responsive coating on porous PEEK for synergistic bone regeneration,vascular formation and anti-infection.Specifically,this PDA coating released high dose of copper and citrate at lower p H value,which increased intracellular copper content,boosted production of reactive oxygen species and severe damage of protein,leading to killing of 93%planktonic bacterial and eradication of adherent bacteria.At p H of 7.4,the release of copper and citrate were in a slow and sustained behavior,synergistically enhanced vascular formation potential and osteodiffereration of Ad-MSC in vitro.After implanted in rabbit tibia for 6 and 12 weeks,the micro-CT evaluation and histological analysis consistently highlighted the ability of this PDA coating to increase new bone formation adjacent to coated PEEK implant and enhance bone-implant interfacial integration.These results were proven to be related to the synergistic effect that citrate facilitated a 2-fold influx of copper into cells,which not only enhanced the bacteria-killing ability but also encouraged bone regeneration of implants.This present work provides an effective method to control infections while promoting osseointegration simultaneously,which will show tremendous clinical application and can be a solution to current challenges facing orthopedics.Jianglong Yan Dandan Xiab Pan Xionga Yangyang Li Wenhao Zhou Qiyao Li Pei Wang Yufeng Zheng Yan Cheng 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,12:1

18Annealing engineering induced high thermoelectric performance in Yb-filled CoSb_(3) skutterudites显示文摘The great pressure of energy shortage has made CoSb_(3) materials with excellent mechanical stability in the mid-temperature region favored for the integration of thermoelectric devices.However,their ex-cessive lattice thermal conductivity and poor Seebeck coefficient lead to low energy conversion effi-ciency.Filling Yb into the lattice void to optimize the band structure and regulate the chemical po-tential is an indispensable means for improving the thermoelectric properties of CoSb_(3)-based materials,while the phase structure and thermoelectric properties vary with the preparation process.This motivates the current work to focus on the influence of annealing temperature on the microstructure and thermoelectric properties of Yb-filled CoSb_(3).Experimental analysis and theoretical model eluci-dated that an increase in annealing temperature can optimize the Yb filling fraction,which simulta-neously manipulates the band structure as well as chemical potential,resulting in an excellent electrical property.Furthermore,the phase and microstructure characterization clarify that the annealing temperature can effectively affect the grain size.The complex grain boundary induced by grain refinement,more filled Yb atoms and precipitates strongly scatter wide-frequency phonons,significantly suppressing the lattice thermal conductivity.As a result,a superior dimensionless figure of merit(ZT)value of~1.33 at 823 K and an average ZTave of~0.9(323-823 K)were achieved in the Ybo.4Co4Sb12 sample annealed at 923 K,and the calculated conversion efficiency could reach~13%.This work pro-vides a unique paradigm to improve thermoelectrics in the filled CoSb_(3)-based skutterudites by annealing engineering.Haoran Feng Qian Deng Yan Zhong Xuri Rao Yadong Wang Jianglong Zhu Fujie Zhang Ran Ang 2023Journal of Materials Science & Technology2023,,19:0
