| 1 | Endoscopic diagnosis of cervical esophageal heterotopic gastric mucosa with conventional and narrow-band images显示文摘AIM:To compare the diagnostic yield of heterotopic gastric mucosa(HGM)in the cervical esophagus with conventional imaging(CI)and narrow-band imaging(NBI).METHODS:A prospective study with a total of 760patients receiving a CI examination(mean age 51.6years;47.8%male)and 760 patients undergoing NBI examination(mean age 51.2 years;45.9%male).The size of HGM was classified as small(1-5 mm),medium(6-10 mm),or large(>1 cm).A standardized questionnaire was used to obtain demographic characteristics,social habits,and symptoms likely to be related to cervical esophageal HGM,including throat symptoms(globus sensation,hoarseness,sore throat,and cough)and upper esophageal symptoms(dysphagia and odynophagia)at least 3 mo in duration.The clinicopathological classification of cervical esophageal HGM was performed using the proposal by von Rahden et al.RESULTS:Cervical esophageal HGM was found in 36of 760(4.7%)and 63 of 760(8.3%)patients in the CI and NBI groups,respectively(P=0.007).The NBI mode discovered significantly more small-sized HGM than CI(55%vs 17%;P<0.0001).For the 99 patients with cervical esophageal HGM,biopsies were performed in 56 patients;37(66%)had fundic-type gastric mucosa,and 19 had antral-type mucosa.For the clinicopathological classification,77 patients(78%)were classified as HGMⅠ(asymptomatic carriers);21 as HGMⅡ(symptomatic without morphologic changes);and one as HGMⅢ(symptomatic with morphologic change).No intraepithelial neoplasia or adenocarcinoma was found.CONCLUSION:NBI endoscopy detects more cervical esophageal HGM than CI does.Fundic-type gastric mucosa constitutes the most common histology.One-fifth of patients have throat or dysphagic symptoms. | Chi-Liang Cheng Cheng-Hui Lin Nai-Jen Liu Jui-Hsiang Tang Yen-Lin Kuo Yi-Ning Tsui | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,1: | 13 |
| 2 | Optimum design of hierarchical stiffened shells for low imperfection sensitivity显示文摘A concept of hierarchical stiffened shell is proposed in this study,aiming at reducing the imperfection sensitivity without adding additional weight.Hierarchical stiffened shell is composed of major stiffeners and minor stiffeners,and the minor stiffeners are generally distributed between adjacent major stiffeners.For various types of geometric imperfections,e.g.,eigenmode-shape imperfections,hierarchical stiffened shell shows significantly low imperfection sensitivity compared to traditional stiffened shell.Furthermore,a surrogate-based optimization framework is proposed to search for the hierarchical optimum design.Then,two optimum designs based on two different optimization objectives(including the critical buckling load and the weighted sum of collapse loads of geometrically imperfect shells with small-and large-amplitude imperfections)are compared and discussed in detail.The illustrative example demonstrates the inherent superiority of hierarchical stiffened shells in resisting imperfections and the effectiveness of the proposed framework.Moreover,the decrease of imperfection sensitivity can finally be converted into a decrease of structural weight,which is particularly important in the development of large-diameter launch vehicles. | Bo Wang Peng Hao Gang Li Jia-Xin Zhang Kai-Fan Du Kuo Tian Xiao-Jun Wang Xiao-Han Tang | 2014 | Acta Mechanica Sinica2014,30,3: | 12 |

| 4 | Role of body mass index in colon cancer patients in Taiwan显示文摘AIM:To determine the effect of body mass index(BMI) on the characteristics and overall outcome of colon cancer in Taiwan.METHODS:From January 1995 to July 2003,2138 patients with colon cancer were enrolled in this study.BMI categories(in kg/m 2) were established according to the classification of the Department of Health of Taiwan.Postoperative morbidities and mortality,and survival analysis including overall survival(OS),diseasefree survival(DFS),and cancer-specific survival(CSS) were compared across the BMI categories.RESULTS:There were 164(7.7%) underweight(BMI < 18.5 kg/m 2),1109(51.9%) normal-weight(BMI = 18.5-23.9 kg/m 2),550(25.7%) overweight(BMI = 24.0-26.9 kg/m 2),and 315(14.7%) obese(BMI ≥27 kg/m 2) patients.Being female,apparently anemic,hypoalbuminemic,and having body weight loss was more likely among underweight patients than among the other patients(P < 0.001).Underweight patients had higher mortality rate(P = 0.007) and lower OS(P < 0.001) and DFS(P = 0.002) than the other patients.OS and DFS did not differ significantly between normal-weight,overweight,and obese patients,while CSS did not differ significantly with the BMI category.CONCLUSION:In Taiwan,BMI does not significantly affect colon-CSS.Underweight patients had a higher rate of surgical mortality and a worse OS and DFS than the other patients.Obesity does not predict a worse survival. | Chih-Chien Chin Yi-Hung Kuo Chien-Yuh Yeh Jinn-Shiun Chen Reiping Tang Chung-Rong Changchien Jeng-Yi Wang Wen-Shih Huang | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,31: | 4 |

| 6 | CDH13 Genetic Polymorphisms, Adiponectin and Ischemic Stroke: a Chinese Family-based Sib-pair Study显示文摘Objective To understand the relationships between CDH13(T-cadherin) genetic polymorphisms, adiponectin levels and ischemic stroke, and possible interactions between CDH13 polymorphisms and other risk factors. Methods We recruited 342 Chinese ischemic stroke sib pairs. We genotyped rs4783244 and rs7193788 on CDH13 using time-of-flight mass spectrometry genotyping technology and measured total and high-molecular weight(HMW) adiponectin levels. We investigated associations between SNPs and ischemic stroke, and interactions between SNPs and other risk factors using multi-level mixed-effects regression model. Results In individuals without ischemic stroke, CDH13 rs4783244 was associated with total adiponectin levels(per T: Coef =-0.257, P = 0.001). CDH13 rs7193788 was associated with total adiponectin levels(per A: Coef =-0.221, P = 0.001) and HMW adiponectin levels(per A: Coef =-0.163, P = 0.003). rs7193788 was significantly associated with ischemic stroke(GA/AA vs. GG: OR = 1.55, 95% CI: 1.07 to 2.24, P = 0.020) after Bonferroni correction(α = 0.025). There was an interaction between rs7193788 and diabetes(P = 0.036). Compared to diabetes-free individuals with rs7193788 GG genotype, diabetes patients with rs7193788 GA/AA genotypes had higher risks for ischemic stroke(OR = 2.64, 95% CI: 1.58-4.40, P < 0.001). Conclusion CDH13 genetic polymorphisms are associated with adiponectin levels and ischemic stroke. | 7 | Assessment of causal association between thyroid function and lipid metabolism:a Mendelian randomization study显示文摘Background:Thyroid dysfunction is associated with cardiovascular diseases.However,the role of thyroid function in lipid metabolism remains partly unknown.The present study aimed to investigate the causal association between thyroid function and serum lipid metabolism via a genetic analysis termed Mendelian randomization(MR).Methods:The MR approach uses a genetic variant as the instrumental variable in epidemiological studies to mimic a randomized controlled trial.A two-sample MR was performed to assess the causal association,using summary statistics from the Atrial Fibrillation Genetics Consortium(n=537,409)and the Global Lipids Genetics Consortium(n=188,577).The clinical measures of thyroid function include thyrotropin(TSH),free triiodothyronine(FT3)and free thyroxine(FT4)levels,FT3:FT4 ratio and concentration of thyroid peroxidase antibodies(TPOAb).The serum lipid metabolism traits include total cholesterol(TC)and triglycerides,high-density lipoprotein,and low-density lipoprotein(LDL)levels.The MR estimate and MR inverse variance-weighted method were used to assess the association between thyroid function and serum lipid metabolism.Results:The results demonstrated that increased TSH levels were significantly associated with higher TC(β=0.052,P=0.002)and LDL(β=0.041,P=0.018)levels.In addition,the FT3:FT4 ratio was significantly associated with TC(β=0.240,P=0.033)and LDL(β=0.025,P=0.027)levels.However,no significant differences were observed between genetically predicted FT4 and TPOAb and serum lipids.Conclusion:Taken together,the results of the present study suggest an association between thyroid function and serum lipid metabolism,highlighting the importance of the pituitary-thyroid-cardiac axis in dyslipidemia susceptibility. | Jing-Jia Wang Zhen-Huang Zhuang Chun-Li Shao Can-Qing Yu Wen-Yao Wang Kuo Zhang Xiang-Bin Meng Jun Gao Jian Tian Ji-Lin Zheng Tao Huang Yi-Da Tang | 2021 | Chinese Medical Journal2021,,9: | 3 |

| 9 | Biomedical polymers: synthesis, properties, and applications显示文摘Biomedical polymers have been extensively developed for promising applications in a lot of biomedical fields, such as therapeutic medicine delivery, disease detection and diagnosis, biosensing, regenerative medicine, and disease treatment. In this review, we summarize the most recent advances in the synthesis and application of biomedical polymers, and discuss the comprehensive understanding of their property-function relationship for corresponding biomedical applications. In particular, a few burgeoning bioactive polymers, such as peptide/biomembrane/microorganism/cell-based biomedical polymers, are also introduced and highlighted as the emerging biomaterials for cancer precision therapy. Furthermore, the foreseeable challenges and outlook of the development of more efficient, healthier and safer biomedical polymers are discussed.
