| 2 | Fast increasing of surface ozone concentrations in Pearl River Delta characterized by a regional air quality monitoring network during 2006–2011显示文摘Based on the observation by a Regional Air Quality Monitoring Network including 16 monitoring stations, temporal and spatial variations of ozone(O3), NO2and total oxidant(Ox) were analyzed by both linear regression and cluster analysis. A fast increase of regional O3concentrations of 0.86 ppbV/yr was found for the annual averaged values from 2006 to 2011 in Guangdong, China. Such fast O3increase is accompanied by a correspondingly fast NOx reduction as indicated by a fast NO2 reduction rate of 0.61 ppbV/yr. Based on a cluster analysis, the monitoring stations were classified into two major categories – rural stations(non-urban) and suburban/urban stations. The O3concentrations at rural stations were relatively conserved while those at suburban/urban stations showed a fast increase rate of 2.0 ppbV/yr accompanied by a NO2 reduction rate of 1.2 ppbV/yr. Moreover, a rapid increase of the averaged O3 concentrations in springtime(13%/yr referred to 2006 level) was observed, which may result from the increase of solar duration, reduction of precipitation in Guangdong and transport from Eastern Central China. Application of smog production algorithm showed that the photochemical O3production is mainly volatile organic compounds(VOC)-controlled. However, the photochemical O3production is sensitive to both NOx and VOC for O3pollution episode. | 3 | The Yellow Sea green tides were dominated by one species, Ulva (Enteromorpha) prolifera, from 2007 to 2011显示文摘Green tides have occurred in the Yellow Sea successively from 2007 to 2011. Genetic analysis of the 5-year green-tide-forming algae needs to be performed to determine the source of the biomass and understand the mechanism of the green tide blooms. In this study, free-floating green algae were collected at different sites in the Yellow Sea in 2010 and 2011. Data on 182 free-floating samples and 155 attached Ulva samples from previous studies on the Yellow Sea green tides from 2007 to 2009 were also taken into consideration. Morphology observation and molecular phylogenetic analyses indicated that the Yellow Sea green tides were dominated by a single species, Ulva prolifera, from 2007 to 2011. | 5 | Evaluation and intercomparison of ozone simulations by Models-3/CMAQ and CAMx over the Pearl River Delta显示文摘Ozone pollution over the Pearl River Delta (PRD) in October 2004 has been simulated using the regional air quality models Models-3/CMAQ and CAMx. The results from both models were evaluated and compared with the observed concentrations from 12 monitoring stations. By integrated process rate analysis, the influences of different physical and chemical processes were quantified, and the causes of the deviations between the two models were investigated. Both CMAQ and CAMx repro- duced the magnitudes and variations of ozone at most stations over the PRD. The correlation coefficients (R) between the sim- ulated results and monitoring data were 0.73 for CMAQ and 0.74 for CAMx. The normalized mean bias (NMB) for CMAQ and CAMx over the 12 sites was ?8.5% and 8.8% on average, respectively. The normalized mean error (NME) for CMAQ and CAMx was 36.7% and 37.9%, respectively. The correlation between the results of two models was very high (R = 0.92), and their simulated ozone spatial distributions exhibited common features. But the values obtained using CMAQ simulation were about 17% lower than those obtained using CAMx on average. The results of simulations using the two models were not identical in certain regions, or for different types of monitoring stations. The differences in dry deposition, reaction parameters and vertical transport near the Pearl River Estuary can account for the discrepancies in the results obtained using the two models. In the upwind areas, the discrepancy in the boundary concentration of the finest nest was the main cause of the higher values obtained using CAMx compared with those obtained using CMAQ. There is a need for CAMx to provide more choices of dry deposition algo- rithms. | 8 | In situ U-Pb dating of titanite by LA-ICPMS显示文摘Titanite is an ideal mineral for U-Pb isotopic dating because of its relatively high U,Th and Pb contents.Here,we developed a technique for U-Pb dating of titanite using the 193 nm ArF laser-ablation system and Agilent 7500a Q-ICP-MS.Standards of titanite (BLR-1 and OLT-1) and zircon (91500 and GJ-1) were dated using single spot and line raster scan analytical methods.To check the matrix effect,titanite (BLR-1) and zircon (91500) standards were analyzed as the external standards.The weighted mean 206 Pb/238 U ages of OLT-1 titanite are 1015±5 Ma (2,n=24) and 1017±6 Ma (2,n=24) by single spot and line raster scan analyses,respectively,using BLR-1 titanite as the external standard.These ages are consistent with its reference age of about 1014 Ma.However,using 91500 zircon as the external standard,the weighted mean 206 Pb/238 U ages are 917±4 Ma (2,n=24) and 927±5 Ma (2,n=24) for BLR-1 titanite,and 891±4 Ma (2,n=24) and 901±5 Ma (2,n=24) for OLT-1 titanite by single spot and line raster scan analyses,respectively.It is evident that these ages are ~12% younger than their reference values.Our results reveal that significant matrix effect does exist between different kinds of minerals during LA-ICPMS U-Pb age determination,whereas it is insignificant between same minerals.Therefore,same mineral must be used as the external standard for fractionation corrections during in situ LA-ICPMS U-Pb age analysis.In addition,we determined U-Pb ages for titanites from the Early Cretaceous Fangshan pluton,which indicates a rapid cooling history of this pluton. | SUN JinFeng YANG JinHui wu FuYuan XIE LieWen YANG YueHeng LIU ZhiChao LI XianHua | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,20: | 14 |

| 13 | Early prediction of pathological outcomes to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer patients using automated breast ultrasound显示文摘Objective: Early assessment of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC) for breast cancer allows therapy to be individualized.The optimal assessment method has not been established.We investigated the accuracy of automated breast ultrasound(ABUS) to predict pathological outcomes after NAC.Methods: A total of 290 breast cancer patients were eligible for this study.Tumor response after 2 cycles of chemotherapy was assessed using the product change of two largest perpendicular diameters(PC) or the longest diameter change(LDC).PC and LDC were analyzed on the axial and the coronal planes respectively.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curves were used to evaluate overall performance of the prediction methods.Youden's indexes were calculated to select the optimal cut-off value for each method.Sensitivity, specificity,positive and negative predictive values(PPV and NPV) and the area under the ROC curve(AUC) were calculated accordingly.Results: yp T0/is was achieved in 42 patients(14.5%) while yp T0 was achieved in 30 patients(10.3%) after NAC.All four prediction methods(PC on axial planes, LDC on axial planes, PC on coronal planes and LDC on coronal planes) displayed high AUCs(all>0.82), with the highest of 0.89 [95% confidence interval(95% CI), 0.83–0.95]when mid-treatment ABUS was used to predict final pathological complete remission(p CR).High sensitivities(85.7%–88.1%) were observed across all four prediction methods while high specificities(81.5%–85.1%) were observed in two methods used PC.The optimal cut-off values defined by our data replicate the WHO and the RECIST criteria.Lower AUCs were observed when mid-treatment ABUS was used to predict poor pathological outcomes.Conclusions: ABUS is a useful tool in early evaluation of p CR after NAC while less reliable when predicting poor pathological outcomes. | Xinguang Wang Ling Huo Yingjian He Zhaoqing Fan Tianfeng Wang Yuntao Xie Jinfeng Li Tao Ouyang | 2016 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2016,28,5: | 11 |

| 15 | Jasmonic acid carboxyl methyltransferase regulates development and herbivory-induced defense response in rice显示文摘Jasmonic acid(JA) and related metabolites play a key role in plant defense and growth. JA carboxyl methyltransferase(JMT) may be involved in plant defense and development by methylating JA to methyl jasmonate(Me JA) and thus influencing the concentrations of JA and related metabolites. However, no JMT gene has been well characterized in monocotyledon defense and development at the molecular level. After we cloned a rice JMT gene,Os JMT1, whose encoding protein was localized in the cytosol, we found that the recombinant Os JMT1 protein catalyzed JA to Me JA. Os JMT1 is up-regulated in response to infestation with the brown planthopper(BPH; Nilaparvata lugens). Plants in which Os JMT1 had been overexpressed(oeJMT plants) showed reduced height and yield. These oe-JMT plants also exhibited increased Me JA levels but reduced levels of herbivore-induced JA and jasmonoyl-isoleucine(JAIle). The oe-JMT plants were more attractive to BPH female adults but showed increased resistance to BPH nymphs,probably owing to the different responses of BPH female adults and nymphs to the changes in levels of H_2O_2 and Me JA in oe-JMT plants. | 16 | The fabrication of biomimetic biphasic CAN-PAC hydrogel with a seamless interfacial layer applied in osteochondral defect repair显示文摘Cartilage tissue engineering based on biomimetic scaffolds has become a rapidly developing strategy for repairing cartilage defects. In this study, a biphasic CAN-PAC hydrogel for osteochondral defect(OCD)regeneration was fabricated based on the density difference between the two layers via a thermally reactive,rapid cross-linking method. The upper hydrogel was cross-linked by CSMA and NIPAm, and the lower hydrogel was composed of PECDA, AAm and PEGDA. The interface between the two layers was first grafted by the physical cross-linking of calcium gluconate and alginate, followed by the chemical cross-linking of the carbon-carbon double bonds in the other components. The pore sizes of the upper and lower hydrogels were ~ 187.4 and ~ 112.6 μm, respectively. The moduli of the upper and lower hydrogels were ~ 0.065 and~ 0.261 MPa. This prepared bilayer hydrogel exhibited the characteristics of mimetic composition, mimetic structure and mimetic stiffness, which provided a microenvironment for sustaining cell attachment and viability. Meanwhile, the biodegradability and biocompatibility of the CAN-PAC hydrogel were examined in vivo. Furthermore, an osteochondral defect model was developed in rabbits, and the bilayer hydrogels were implanted into the defect. In thisstudy, we prepared S, Se-codoped CDs via a hydrothermal method anddemonstrated that the doping resulted in excitation wavelength-independentnear-infrared (NIR) emissions of the CDs, with peaks at 731 and 820 nm.Significantly, the CDs exhibited a photothermal conversion efficiency of -58.2%,which is the highest reported value for C nanostructures and is comparable tothat of Au nanostructures. Moreover, the CDs had a large two-photon absorptioncross section (-30,045 GM), which allowed NIR emissions and the photothermalconversion of the CDs through the two-photon excitation (TPE) mechanism. | 18 | Carbon Capture and Storage:History and the Road Ahead显示文摘The large-scale deployment of carbon capture and storage(CCS)is becoming increasingly urgent in the global path toward net zero emissions;however,global CCS deployment is significantly lagging behind its expected contribution to greenhouse gas emission reduction.Reviewing and learning from the examples and history of successful CCS practices in advanced countries will help other countries,including China,to promote and deploy CCS projects using scientific methods.This paper shows that the establishment of major science and technology CCS infrastructures in advanced countries has become the main source of CCS technological innovation,cost reduction,risk reduction,commercial promotion,and talent training in the development and demonstration of key CCS technologies.Sound development of CCS requires a transition from pilot-scale science and technology infrastructures to large-scale commercial infrastructures,in addition to incentive policies;otherwise,it will be difficult to overcome the technical barriers between small-scale demonstrations and the implementation of million-tonne-scale CCS and ten-million-tonne-scale CCS hubs.Geological CO_(2) storage is the ultimate goal of CCS projects and the driving force of CO_(2) capture.Further improving the accuracy of technologies for the measurement,monitoring,and verification(MMV)of CO_(2) storage capacity,emission reduction,and safety remains a problem for geological storage.CO_(2) storage in saline aquifers can better couple multiple carbon emission sources and is currently a priority direction for development.Reducing the energy consumption of lowconcentration CO_(2) capture and the depletion of chemical absorbents and improving the operational efficiency and stability of post-combustion CO_(2) capture systems have become the key constraints to largescale CCS deployment.Enhanced oil recovery(EOR)is also important in order for countries to maximize fossil fuel extraction instead of importing oil from less environmentally friendly oil-producing countries. | Jinfeng Ma Lin Li Haofan Wang Yi Du Junjie Ma Xiaoli Zhang Zhenliang Wang | 2022 | Engineering2022,8,7: | 9 |
| 19 | Housing characteristics and indoor environment in relation to children's asthma, allergic diseases and pneumonia in Urumqi, China显示文摘In order to evaluate the prevalence of childhood asthma,allergic diseases and pneumonia in Urumqi City,China,as well as its associations with housing and home characteristics,a cross-sectional study was performed in 4618 children(81.7%response rate,average age 4.7±0.9 year,boys accounting for 53.7%).Questions on children’s asthma and allergic diseases were from the International Study on Asthma and Allergies in Childhood(ISAAC)and were integrated with questions on the home environment from the Dampness in Buildings and Health(DBH)study,slightly modified to account for Chinese building characteristics and life habits.The prevalences of physician diagnosed asthma,allergic rhinitis(AR)and pneumonia were 3.6%,8.7%and 40.9%,respectively.One fourth of children reported wheezing and more than 40%AR symptoms in the last 12 months.Controlling for confounding factors,positive associations were found for home mold/dampness and wheezing(adjusted odds ratio,aOR 1.33,95%CI 1.07 1.66),AR symptoms(1.34,1.09 1.64)last 12 months and physician diagnosed pneumonia(1.33,1.09 1.62).Floor material by wood,PVC or carpeting;and walls by wallpaper,painting or wood material,were positively associated with AR symptoms.Home environmental tobacco smoke(ETS)was positively associated with wheezing(1.23,1.04 1.46)and pneumonia(1.25,1.07 1.45).In conclusion,there was a relatively high prevalence of asthmatic and AR symptoms and diagnosed pneumonia in preschool children in Urumqi.Home signs of mold growth or dampness,windowpane condensation,as well as ETS and interior surface materials emitting chemicals were risk factors for allergic symptoms and pneumonia. | WANG TingTing ZHAO ZhuoHui YAO Hua WANG ShuLan NORBACK Dan CHEN Jie MA JinFeng JI XiaoLi WANG Li SUNDELL Jan | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,34: | 9 |
