Solid-state additive manufacturing and repairing by cold spraying:A review显示文摘High-performance metal additive manufacturing(AM) has been extensively investigated in recent year because of its unique advantages over traditional manufacturing processes. AM has been applied to form complex components of Ti, Fe or Ni alloys. However, for other nonferrous alloys such as Al alloys, Mg alloys and Cu alloys, AM may not be appropriate because of its melting nature during processing by laser electron beam, and/or arc. Cold spraying(CS) has been widely accepted as a promising solid-state coating technique in last decade for its mass production of high-quality metals and alloys, and/or metal matrix composites coatings. It is now recognized as a useful and powerful tool for AM, but the related research work has just started. This review summarized the literature on the state-of-the-art and problems for C as an AM and repairing technique.Wenya Li Kang Yang Shuo Yin Xiawei Yang Yaxin Xu Rocco Lupoi 2018Journal of Materials Science & Technology2018,34,3:35
Deposition of FeCoNiCrMn high entropy alloy(HEA) coating via cold spraying显示文摘High entropy alloys(HEAs) are of great interest in the community of materials science and engineering due to their unique phase structure. They are constructed with five or more principal alloying elements in equimolar or near-equimolar ratio. Therefore, HEAs can derive their performance from multiple principal elements rather than a single element. In this work, solid-state cold spraying(CS) was applied for the first time to produce FeCoNiCrMn HEA coating. The experimental results confirm that CS can be used to produce a thick HEA coating with low porosity. As a low-temperature deposition process, CS completely retained the HEA phase structure in the coating without any phase transformation. The characterization also reveals that the grains in the CSed HEA coating had experienced significant refinement as compared to those in the as-received HEA powder due the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization at the highly deformed interparticle region. Due to the increased dislocation density and grain boundaries,CSed HEA coating was much harder than the as-received powder. The tribological study shows that the CSed FeCoNiCrMn HEA coating resulted in lower wear rate than laser cladded HEA coatings.Shuo Yin Wenya Li Bo Song Xingchen Yan Min Kuang Yaxin Xu Kui Wen Rocco Lupoi 2019Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,6:13
Precipitation and hot deformation behavior of austenitic heat-resistant steels: A review显示文摘The austenitic heat resistant-steels have been considered as important candidate materials for advanced supercritical boilers, nuclear reactors, super heaters and chemical reactors, due to their favorable combination of high strength, corrosion resistance, perfect mechanical properties, workability and low cost.Since the precipitation behavior of the steels during long-term service at elevated temperature would lead to the deterioration of mechanical properties, it is essential to clarify the evolution of secondary phases in the microstructure of the steels. Here, a summary of recent progress in the precipitation behavior and the coarsening mechanism of various precipitates during aging in austenitic steels is made. Various secondary phases are formed under service conditions, like MX carbonitrides, M_(23)C_6 carbides, Z phase, sigma phase and Laves phase. It is found that the coarsening rate of M_(23)C_6 carbides is much higher than that of MX carbonitrides. In order to understand the thermal deformation mechanism, a constitutive equation can be established, and thus obtained processing maps are beneficial to optimizing thermal processing parameters, leading to improved thermal processing properties of steels.Yinghui Zhou Yongchang Liu Xiaosheng Zhou Chenxi Liu Jianxin Yu Yuan Huang Huijun Li Wenya Li 2017Journal of Materials Science & Technology2017,33,12:12
Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) numerical simulations on the interaction of the solar wind with the magnetosphere: A review显示文摘The magnetosphere is the outermost layer of the geospace, and the interaction of the solar wind with the magnetosphere is the key element of the space weather cause-and-effect chain process from the Sun to Earth, which is one of the most challenging scientific problems in the geospace weather study. The nonlinearity, multiple component, and time-dependent nature of the geospace make it very difficult to describe the physical process in geospace using traditional analytic analysis approach. Numerical simulations, a new research tool developed in recent decades, have a deep impact on the theory and application of the geospace. MHD simulations started at the end of the 1970s, and the initial study was limited to two-dimensional (2D) cases. Due to the intrinsic three-dimensional (3D) characteristics of the geospace, 3D MHD simulations emerged in the 1980s, in an attempt to model the large-scale structures and fundamental physical processes in the magnetosphere. They started to combine with the space exploration missions in the 1990s and make comparisons with observations. Physics-based space weather forecast models started to be developed in the 21st century. Currently only a few space-power countries such as USA and Japan have developed 3D magnetospheric MHD models. With the rapid advance of space science in China, we have developed a new global MHD model, namely PPMLR-MHD, which has high order spatial accuracy and low numerical dissipation. In this review, we will briefly introduce the global 3D MHD modeling, especially the PPMLR-MHD code, and summarize our recent work based on the PPMLR-MHD model, with an emphasis on the interaction of interplanetary shocks with the magnetosphere, large-scale current systems, reconnection voltage and transpolar potential drop, and Kelvin-Helmholtz (K-H) instability at the magnetopause.WANG Chi GUO XiaoCheng PENG Zhong TANG BinBin SUN TianRan LI WenYa HU YouQiu 2013Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,7:10

Pinless Friction Stir Welding of AA2024-T3Joint and Its Failure Modes显示文摘The joining of aluminum alloy sheets with thickness less than 2.0 mm is difficult via conventional frictionstir welding owing to the defects in the joint, such as root flaw, keyhole and lazy S. In the present research, a newlydesigned pinless tool with involute grooves on its shoulder surface was applied to weld 1.5 mm thick AA2024-T3. Theeffects of the rotating speed and welding speed on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the joints were analyzed. The experimental results showed that the root flaw and keyhole were successfully eliminated. The lazy S wasalso eliminated under the optimized welding parameters. The maximum tensile strength of the joints was 326 MPa,which is about 74.1% that of the base material. Moreover, all the tensile samples fractured from the retreating side. Two fracture modes were observed during the tensile tests, which are related with the lazy S.Li Wenya Li Jinfeng Zhang Zhihan Gao Dalu Wang Weibing Luan Guohong 2014Transactions of Tianjin University2014,20,6:6
Tianwen-1 MINPA observations in the solar wind显示文摘The Mars Ion and Neutral Particle Analyzer(MINPA)is one of the three scientific instruments onboard the Tianwen-1 orbiter to investigate the Martian space environment.During Tianwen-1’s transfer orbit to Mars, the MINPA was switched on to measure the solar wind ions. Here,we present the first results of the MINPA observations in the solar wind.During cruise, nearly half of the MINPA ion field-of-view(FOV)was blocked by the lander capsule;thus only the solar-wind ions with azimuthal speeds pointing towards the unblocked FOV sectors could be detected. We perform a detailed comparison of the MINPA’s solar wind observations with data from Earth-based missions when MINPA reached its count-rate peak, finding a general consistency of the ion moments between them. The blocking effect due to the lander is evaluated quantitatively under varying solar-wind velocity conditions.Despite the blocking effect, the MINPA’s solar wind measurements during the transfer orbit suggest a good performance.AiBing Zhang LingGao Kong WenYa Li Lei Li BinBin Tang ZhaoJin Rong Yong Wei JiJie Ma YiTeng Zhang LiangHai Xie YuXian Wang JianSen He Bin Liu WenJing Wang Bin Su JiaWei Li Xu Tan Fang Wang TaiFeng Jin FuHao Qiao Peter Wurz Yan Zhu YunFei Bai YiRen Li XinBo Zhu YueQiang Sun YongLiao Zou Chi Wang 2022Earth and Planetary Physics2022,6,1:5
Characterizations and anisotropy of cold-spraying additive-manufactured copper bulk显示文摘In this study, thick copper coatings were deposited by cold spraying(CS) as an additive manufacturing(AM) method. The interfacial microstructure evolution and mechanical behavior were investigated for the as-sprayed and annealed conditions. In addition, experiments together with numerical simulations were employed to study the recrystallization in different stages. Finally, the mechanical anisotropy of the CSed deposit was tested for the first time, being important to the applications of CS-AM. Results show that there exist two stages of recrystallization in the spraying and annealing processes. Heat treatment has a significant effect on mechanical properties, i.e., the tensile strength increases by 34.2% while microhardness decreases by 43.6%. The mechanical anisotropy analysis shows that the tensile strengths of different directions are completely different and show some regular changes.Kang Yang Wenya Li Xueping Guo Xiawei Yang Yaxin Xu 2018Journal of Materials Science & Technology2018,34,9:5
Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of linear friction welded S31042 heat-resistant steel显示文摘S31042 heat-resistant steel was joined by linear friction welding(LFW) in this study. The microstructure and the mechanical properties of the LFWed joint were investigated by optical microscopy, scanning electronic microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, hardness test and tensile test. A defect-free joint was achieved by using LFW under reasonable welding parameters. The dynamic recrystallization of austenitic grains and the dispersed precipitation of NbCrN particles resulting from the high stress and high temperature in welding, would lead to a improvement of mechanical property of the welded joint. With increasing the distance from the weld zone to the parent metal, the austenitic grain size gradually increases from ~1μm to ~150μm, and the microhardness decreases from 301 HV to 225 HV. The tensile strength(about 731 MPa) of the welded joint is comparable to that of the S31042 in the solution-treated state.Yanmo Li Yongchang Liu Chenxi Liu Chong Li Zongqing Ma Yuan Huang Zumin Wang Wenya Li 2018Journal of Materials Science & Technology2018,34,4:5
Effect of Substrate Type on Deposition Behavior and Wear Performance of Ni-Coated Graphite/Al Composite Coatings Deposited by Cold Spraying显示文摘This work focused on the deposition characteristics and wear behavior of Ni-coated graphite mixed with40 vol.% Al(Ni-Gr/Al) composite coatings sprayed on an Al alloy and a steel substrate by cold spraying(CS). The morphology of the ?attened Ni-Gr particles was examined by single-impact tests. Crosssectional microstructure and wear performance of the Ni-Gr/Al composite coatings were studied. Results showed that a larger number of Ni-Gr particles were ?nally bonded with the steel substrate, whereas many craters existed on the Al alloy substrate after the single-impact tests. The coating on the steel substrate had a high thickness, high graphite content and low coe?cient of friction(COF) compared to those on the Al alloy substrate. In addition, the CS coatings presented a homogeneous distribution and uniform morphology of graphite, and a comparative COF to that of conventional thermal sprayed coatings. It was shown that CS could avoid the decomposition and transformation of graphite phase.Chunjie Huang Wenya Li Yingchun Xie Marie-Pierre Planche Hanlin Liao Ghislain Montavon 2017Journal of Materials Science & Technology2017,33,4:4
Characterization of a disease susceptibility locus for exploring an efficient way to improve rice resistance against bacterial blight显示文摘Bacterial blight caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv.oryzae(Xoo) is the most harmful bacterial disease of rice worldwide.Previously,we characterized major disease resistance(MR) gene xa25,which confers race-specific resistance to Xoo strain PXO339.The xa25 is a recessive allele of the SWEET13 locus, but SWEET13's interaction with PXO339 and how efficiently using this locus for rice breeding still need to be defined. Here we show that the SWEET 13 allele from rice Zhenshan 97 is a susceptibility gene to PXO339.Using this allele's promoter to regulate xa25 resulted in disease, suggesting that the promoter is a key determinant in SWEET13 caused disease in Zhanshan 97 after PXO339 infection.PXO339 transcriptionally induces SWEET13 to cause disease.Partial suppressing SWEET13 expression leads to a high level of resistance to PXO339.Thus,the transcriptionally suppressed SWEET13 functions as xa25 in resistance to PXO339.Hybrid rice is widely grown in many countries. However, recessive MR genes have not been efficiently used for disease resistance breeding in hybrid rice production for both parents of the hybrid have to carry the same recessive gene. However, the suppressed SWEET 13 functions dominantly, which will have advantage to improve the resistance of hybrid rice to xa25-incomptible Xoo.Qi Cheng Weihua Mao Wenya Xie Qinsong Liu Jianbo Cao Meng Yuan Qinglu Zhang Xianghua Li Shiping Wang 2017Science China(Life Sciences)2017,60,3:4
Mars Ion and Neutral Particle Analyzer (MINPA) for Chinese Mars Exploration Mission (Tianwen-1): Design and ground calibration显示文摘The main objective of the Mars Ion and Neutral Particle Analyzer(MINPA)aboard the Chinese Mars Exploration Mission(Tianwen-1)is to study the solar wind-Mars interaction by measuring the ions and energetic neutral atoms(ENAs)near Mars. The MINPA integrates ion and ENA measurements into one sensor head, sharing the same electronics box.The MINPA utilizes a standard toroidal top-hat electrostatic analyzer(ESA)followed by a time of flight(TOF)unit to provide measurement of ions with energies from 2.8 eV to 25.9 keV and ENAs from 50 eV to 3 keV with a base time resolution of 4 seconds.Highly polished silicon single crystal substrates with an Al2O3 film coating are used to ionize the ENAs into positive ions. These ions can then be analyzed by the ESA and TOF,to determine the energy and masses of the ENAs.The MINPA provides a 360°×90°field of view(FOV)with 22.5°×5.4°angular resolution for ion measurement, and a 360°×9.7°FOV with 22.5°×9.7°angular resolution for ENA measurement. The TOF unit combines a-15 kV acceleration high voltage with ultra-thin carbon foils to resolve H+,He2+,He+,O+,O2+and CO2+for ion measurement and to resolve H and O(≥16 amu group)for ENA measurement. Here we present the design principle and describe our ground calibration of the MINPA.LingGao Kong AiBing Zhang Zhen Tian XiangZhi Zheng WenJing Wang Bin Liu Peter Wurz Daniele Piazza Adrian Etter Bin Su YaYa An JianJing Ding WenYa Li Yong Liu Lei Li YiRen Li Xu Tan YueQiang Sun 2020Earth and Planetary Physics2020,4,4:4
Hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of the laser solid formed TC4 titanium alloy显示文摘Hot compressive experiments of the laser solid formed(LSFed)TC4 titanium alloy were conducted at a wide temperature range of 650-950℃and strain rate of 0.01-10 s^(-1).The Arrheniustype constitutive models of the LSFed TC4 alloy were established at the temperature range of 800-950℃and of 650-800℃,respectively.The average relative error between the predicted stresses and experimental values in those two temperature ranges are 10.4%and 8.3%,respectively,indicating that the prediction models constructed in this paper are in a good agreement with experimental data.Processing maps were established by the principle of dynamic materials modeling on the basis of the data achieved from the hot compression experiments. The processing parameters corresponding to the stable and unstable regions of material deformation can be determined from the processing maps. The microstructure evolution of the stable and unstable regions of the samples after tests were observed. Finally, the effect of hot compressive parameters on the microstructure were investigated to research the dynamic recrystallization and the texture of the deformed LSFed TC4 alloy.Xiawei YANG Yanying WANG Xiurong DONG Chong PENG Baijin JI Yaxin XU Wenya LI 2021Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2021,34,5:3
Optimization of cold-sprayed AA2024/Al_2O_3 metal matrix composites via friction stir processing: Effect of rotation speeds显示文摘In this study, friction stir processing(FSP) was employed to modify cold-sprayed(CSed) AA2024/Al_2 O_3 metal matrix composites(MMCs). Three different rotation speeds with a constant traverse speed were used for FSP. Microstructural analysis of the FSPed specimens reveals significant Al_2 O_3 particle refinement and improved particle distribution over the as-sprayed deposits. After FSP, a microstructural and mechanical gradient MMC through the thickness direction was obtained. Therefore, a hybrid technique combining these two solid-state processes, i.e. CS and FSP, was proposed to produce functionally gradient deposits. The Guinier-Preston-Bagaryatskii zone was dissolved during FSP, while the amounts at different rotation speeds were approximately the same, which is possibly due to the excellent thermal conductivity of the used Cu substrate. Mechanical property tests confirm that FSP can effectively improve the tensile performance and Vickers hardness of CSed AA2024/Al_2 O_3 MMCs. The properties can be further enhanced with a larger rotation speed with a maximum increase of 25.9% in ultimate tensile strength and27.4% in elongation at 1500 rpm. Friction tests show that FSP decreases the wear resistance of CSed MMCs deposits due to the breakup of Al_2 O_3 particles. The average values and fluctuations of friction coefficients at different rotation speeds vary significantly.Kang Yang Wenya Li Chunjie Huang Xiawei Yang Yaxin Xu 2018Journal of Materials Science & Technology2018,34,11:3
Etching approach to hybrid structures of PtPd nanocages and graphene for efficient oxygen reduction reaction catalysts显示文摘Cathodic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is a highly important electrochemical reaction in renewable-energy technologies. In general, the surface area, exposed facets and electrical conductivity of catalysts all play important roles in determining their electrocatalytic activities, while their performance durability can be improved by integration with supporting materials. In this work we have developed a method to synthesize hybrid structures between PtPd bimetallic nanocages and graphene by employing selective epitaxial growth of single-crystal Pt shells on Pd nanocubes supported on reduced graphene oxide (rGO), followed by Pd etching. The hollow nature, {100} surface facets and bimetallic composition of PtPd nanocages, together with the good conductivity and stability of graphene, enable high electrocatalytic performance in ORR. The obtained PtPd nanocage-rGO structures exhibit mass activity (0.534 A.m-1) and which are 4.4 times and 3.9 times greater than the specific activity (0.482 mA-cm-2) corresponding values for Pt/C.Song Bai Chengming Wang Wenya Jiang Nana Du Jing Li Junteng Du Ran Long Zhengquan Li Yujie Xiong 2015Nano Research2015,8,9:3
Electrochemical characterization and microstructure of cold sprayed AA5083/Al_(2)O_(3) composite coatings显示文摘This work focused on the role of Al_(2)O_(3) particles in the corrosion behavior of cold sprayed AA5083 aluminum alloy matrix composite(Al-MMC)coatings.The electrochemical characterization of the coatings was investigated in a 3.5 wt.%NaCl solution as a function of time. The results show that fragmentation of Al_(2)O_(3) particles is not clearly observed in the case of AA5083/20 vol.%Al_(2)O_(3) coating, while the broken Al_(2)O_(3) particles can be seen clearly in AA5083/40 vol.%Al_(2)O_(3) and AA5083/60 vol.%Al_(2)O_(3) coatings. The addition of 20 vol.%Al_(2)O_(3) particles yield the coating with the lowest porosity, and different volume fractions of Al_(2)O_(3)in the feedstock have important effects on the electrochemical behavior of composite coatings. The Al-MMC coating reinforced with 20 vol.%Al_(2)O_(3) particles exhibits the highest Ecorrand the lowest icorrcompared with the other conditions. The order of current density is as follows:AA5083/20vol.%Al_(2)O_(3)Xiawei Yang Wenya Li Siqi Yu Yaxin Xu Kaiwei Hu Yaobang Zhao 2020Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,59,24:3
In-situ formation of Ni-Al intermetallics-coated graphite/Al composite in a cold-sprayed coating and its high temperature tribological behaviors显示文摘In this study, cold spraying(CS) was used to deposit a mixture of nickel-coated graphite and 40 vol.% Al powder(Ni-Gr/Al) on a steel substrate aiming to effectively preserve a certain volume fraction of graphite in the deposited Ni-Gr/Al composite coating. The microstructure of the as-sprayed coating and the effect of post-spray heat-treatment(PSHT) temperatures on the in-situ formation of Ni-Al intermetallic phases in coating were studied. The tribological behaviors of the as-sprayed coating and the PSHTed coating under 450?C were tested at 25?C, while the as-sprayed coating was tested at 450?C for comparison. As a result, the Ni-Gr particles showed a homogenous distribution in the coating. The multilayer Ni-Al intermetallics-coated graphite/Al composite coating was achieved in situ after the PSHT of 450?C, where the graphite did decompose at 550?C leaving big pores in the coating. The coefficients of friction(COF)of the CSed coating and the PSHTed coating were measured at 450?C as well as 25?C, which showed a similar tendency, much higher than that of the CSed coating tested at 25?C. The lubrication phase(graphite) improved the formation of a graphite film during sliding friction and decreased the COF, while the hard Ni-Al intermetallic phases contributed to the increase of COF.Chunjie Huang Wenya Li Marie-Pierre Planche Hanlin Liao Ghislain Montavon 2017Journal of Materials Science & Technology2017,33,6:2
The solar wind plasma upstream of Mars observed by Tianwen-1:Comparison with Mars Express and MAVEN显示文摘On the great journey to Mars,China’s first planetary exploration mission, the Tianwen-1 came within 26 million kilometers of Mars from 31 October 2020 to 25 January 2021 and was getting closer to its destination, the red planet,in search of answers to the cataclysmic climate change that occurred in Martian history. Both the escape of the Martian atmosphere and the loss of surface water were firmly influenced by solar activities.Tianwen-1 provided a unique chance to depict the solar wind streams between Earth and Mars during the minimum of Solar Cycle 25.During the three-month cruise phase of Tianwen-1,the solar wind flows were successively observed at Earth,Tianwen-1,and Mars. After the field of view correction and noise reduction, the solar wind velocity and density measured by Tianwen-1 show good agreement with those at Earth and Mars. The results indicate that the performance of the ion analyzer onboard the Tianwen-1 orbiter is reliable and stable. It is worth looking forward to the joint observations of ion escape with other Mars probes in the following Martian years.Kai FAN Limei YAN Yong WEI Aibing ZHANG Linggao KONG Markus FRÄNZ Fei HE Lihui CHAI Chongjing YUAN Yuqi WANG Jun ZHONG Zhaojin RONG Zhonghua YAO Yongxin PAN Jun CUI Jiansen HE Wenya LI Binbin TANG Chi WANG 2022Science China Earth Sciences2022,65,4:2
