| 2 | Ancient migration routes of Austronesian-speaking populations in oceanic Southeast Asia and Melanesia might mimic the spread of nasopharyngeal carcinoma显示文摘Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and non-recombining Y chromosome (NRY) are inherited uni-parentally from mother to daughter or from father to son respectively. Their polymorphism has initially been studied throughout populations of the world to demonstrate the 'Out of Africa' hypothesis. Here, to correlate the distribution of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in different populations of insular Asia, we analyze the mtDNA information (lineages) obtained from genotyping of the hyper variable region (HVS I & II) among 1400 individuals from island Southeast Asia (ISEA), Taiwan and Fujian and supplemented with the analysis of relevant coding region polymorphisms. Lineages that best represented a clade (a branch of the genetic tree) in the phylogeny were further analyzed using complete genomic mtDNA sequencing. Finally, these complete mtDNA sequences were used to construct a most parsimonious tree which now constitutes the most up-to-date mtDNA dataset available on ISEA and Taiwan. This analysis has exposed new insights of the evolutionary history of insular Asia and has strong implications in assessing possible correlations with linguistic, archaeology, demography and the NPC distribution in populations within these regions. To obtain a more objective and balanced genetic point of view, slowly evolving biallelic Y single nucleotide polymorphism (Y-SNP) was also analyzed. As in the first step above, the technique was first applied to determine affinities (macro analysis) between populations of insular Asia. Secondly, sixteen Y short tandem repeats (Y-STR) were used as they allow deeper insight (micro analysis) into the relationship between individuals of a same region. Together, mtDNA and NRY allowed a better definition of the relational, demographic, cultural and genetic components that constitute the make up of the present day peoples of ISEA. Outstanding findings were obtained on the routes of migration that occurred along with the spread of NPC during the settlement of insular Asia. | 3 | Redefining Budd-Chiari syndrome:A systematic review显示文摘AIM:To re-examine whether hepatic vein thrombosis(HVT)(classical Budd-Chiari syndrome)and hepatic vena cava-Budd Chiari syndrome(HVC-BCS)are the same disorder.METHODS:A systematic review of observational studies conducted in adult subjects with primary BCS,hepatic vein outflow tract obstruction,membranous obstruction of the inferior vena cava(IVC),obliterative hepatocavopathy,or HVT during the period of January2000 until February 2015 was conducted using the following databases:Cochrane Library,CINAHL,MEDLINE,Pub Med and Scopus.RESULTS:Of 1299 articles identified,26 were included in this study.Classical BCS is more common in women with a pure hepatic vein obstruction(49%-74%).HVCBCS is more common in men with the obstruction often located in both the inferior vena cava and hepatic veins(14%-84%).Classical BCS presents with acute abdominal pain,ascites,and hepatomegaly.HVC-BCS presents with chronic abdominal pain and abdominalwall varices.Myeloproliferative neoplasms(MPN)are the most common etiology of classical BCS(16%-62%)with the JAK2V617-F mutation found in 26%-52%.In HVCBCS,MPN are found in 4%-5%,and the JAK2V617-F mutation in 2%-5%.Classical BCS responds well to medical management alone and 1st line management of HVC-BCS involves percutaneous recanalization,with few managed with medical management alone.CONCLUSION:Systematic review of recent data suggests that classical BCS and HVC-BCS may be two clinically different disorders that involve the disruption of hepatic venous outflow. | Naomi Shin Young H Kim Hao Xu Hai-Bin Shi Qing-Qiao Zhang Jean Paul Colon Pons Ducksoo Kim Yi Xu Fei-Yun Wu Samuel Han Byung-Boong Lee Lin-Sun Li | 2016 | World Journal of Hepatology2016，8，16： | 6 |
| 4 | Therapeutic effect of Guijiajiao (Colla Carapacis et Plastri) on bone regeneration in rats and zebrafish显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of Guijiajiao(Colla Carapacis et Plastri, CCP), the glue of tortoise shell, on bone regeneration in zebrafish and male Wistar rats.METHODS: In this study, we applied in vitro and in vivo models, tissue section analysis, and quantitative polymerase chain reaction to assess the effects of CCP on bone repair. MG-63 cells were used in alkaline phosphatase(ALP) activity and mineralization assays. Zebrafish and male Wistar rats were used to evaluate the effects of CCP on bone repair in vivo.RESULTS: A simple preparation of CCP promoted osteogenesis in vivo and in vitro, and promoted MG-63 cell proliferation as well as ALP activity and mineralization. In addition, CCP activated Akt and extracellular signaling-regulated kinase pathways and significantly increased the expression of ossification-related genes and proteins such as runt-related transcription factor-2, osteocalcin, and osteopontin. | 5 | Staphylococcal thoracic aortitis complicated by aortic dissection显示文摘BACKGROUND:The diagnosis of aortitis is often delayed as symptoms are largely nonspecific.We report a case of Staphylococcal thoracic aortitis in a 73-year-old Chinese woman complicated by aortic dissection.METHODS:The patient presented with pyrexia of unknown origin,and a contrast enhanced computed tomography aortogram revealed a large thrombus at the anterior aspect of the ascending aorta with two large ulcerations as a result of a chronic type A aortic dissection.A hemiarch replacement with a 28 mm Gleweave Vascutek graft was performed with resuspension of aortic valve commisures.Aortic thrombus cultures were positive for coagulase negative Staphylococcus aureaus,and histology showed chronic dissection of the aorta.RESULTS:The patient was treated with intravenous cefazolin for a 6-week duration and made good progress.CONCLUSIONS:This case highlights Staphylococcal infective aortitis complicated by dissection presenting as fever of unknown origin.Timely diagnosis is essential as progression to catastrophic rupture may occur. | Paul Chun Yih Lim Jean Mui Hua Lee Yeow Leng Chua Stanley Chia1 | 2013 | World Journal of Emergency Medicine2013，4，2： | 3 |
