| 1 | Simultaneous mineralization of CO_2 and recovery of soluble potassium using earth-abundant potassium feldspar显示文摘CO2 capture and storage(CCS) is an important strategy in combatting anthropogenic climate change.However,commercial application of the CCS technique is currently hampered by its high energy expenditure and costs.To overcome this issue,CO2 capture and utilization(CCU) is a promising CO2 disposal method.We,for the first time,developed a promising method to mineralize CO2 using earth-abundant potassium feldspar in order to effectively reduce CO2 emissions.Our experiments demonstrate that,after adding calcium chloride hexahydrate as an additive,the K-feldspar can be transformed to Ca-silicates at 800 C,which can easily mineralize CO2 to form stable calcium carbonate and recover soluble potassium.The conversion of this process reached 84.7%.With further study,the pretreatment temperature can be reduced to 250 C using hydrothermal method by adding the solution of triethanolamine(TEA).The highest conversion can be reached 40.1%.The process of simultaneous mineralization of CO2 and recovery of soluble potassium can be easily implemented in practice and may provide an economically feasible way to tackle global anthropogenic climate change. | XIE HePing WANG YuFei JU Yang LIANG Bin ZHU JiaHua ZHANG Ru XIE LingZhi LIU Tao ZHOU XiangGe ZENG HongMei LI Chun LU HouFang | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013，58，1： | 16 |

| 3 | Generation of electricity from CO_2 mineralization: Principle and realization显示文摘Current CO2 reduction and utilization technologies suffer from high energy consuming. Thus, an energy favourable route is in urgent demanding. CO2 mineralization is theoretically an energy releasing process for CO2 reduction and utilization, but an approach to recovery this energy has so far remained elusive. For the first time, here we proposed the principle of harvesting electrical energy directly from CO2 mineralization, and realized an energy output strategy for CO2 utilization and reduction via a CO2-mineralization fuel cell(CMFC) system. In this system CO2 and industrial alkaline wastes were used as feedstock, and industrial valuable Na HCO3 was produced concomitantly during the electricity generation. The highest power density of this system reached 5.5 W/m2, higher than many microbial fuel cells. The maximum open circuit voltage reached 0.452 V. Moreover, this system was demonstrated viable to low concentration CO2(10%) and other carbonation process. | 5 | Optimal Waist Circumference Cut-off values for Identifying Metabolic Risk Factors in Middle-aged and Elderly Subjects in Shandong Province of China显示文摘Objective To study the optimal waist circumference(WC) cut-off values for identifying metabolic risk factors in middle-aged and elderly subjects in Shandong Province of China. Methods A total of 2 873 men and 5 559 women were included in this cross-sectional study. Metabolic syndrome(MetS) was diagnosed according to the definition of Chinese Diabetes Society in 2004. The relation between WC and MetS was analyzed by multivariate logistic regression analysis. The optimal WC cut-off values were identified using the area under the ROC curve and the different diagnostic criteria for central obesity were compared. Results The WC was the risk factor for MetS independent of BMI, blood glucose, blood lipid, and blood pressure. The optimal WC cut-off value was 83.8 cm and 91.1 cm for identifying MetS in women and men, respectively. Compared with 80 cm and 85 cm for women and men, 85 cm and 90 cm had a higher Youden index for identifying all metabolic risk factors and MetS in women and men. | 8 | EQR SiPM with P-on-N diode configuration显示文摘The silicon photomultiplier(SiPM) with epitaxial quenching resistor(EQR) is an emerging and developing technology that has recently attracted the interest from the research community. It has characteristics of a continuous low-resistance cap layer and integrated quenching resisters in epitaxial silicon layer, which makes it possible to increase microcell density or reduce microcell size, thus obtaining large dynamic range and high photon detection efficiency(PDE) simultaneously. Results published show that the EQR SiPM with N-on-P diode configuration had relatively low PDE at peak wavelength of 480 nm as 16%. This paper reported the EQR SiPM with P-on-N diode configuration having active area of 3 × 3 mm^2 and cell density of 10,000/mm^2(total 90,000 pixels). It was characterized with gain of 2E5, dark count rate of 7 MHz, crosstalk of 7%, dynamic range of 85,000 pixels, overall recovery time of 32 ns at room temperature and over-voltage of 3.5 V. | 9 | PITPNC1 promotes the thermogenesis of brown adipose tissue under acute cold exposure显示文摘Brown adipose tissue (BAT) plays an essential role in non-shivering thermogenesis. The phosphatidylinositol transfer protein, cytoplasmic 1 (PITPNC1) is identified as a lipid transporter that reciprocally transfers phospholipids between intracellular membrane structures. However, the physiological significance of PITPNC1 and its regulatory mechanism remain unclear. Here, we demonstrate that PITPNC1 is a key player in thermogenesis of BAT. While Pitpnc1^(−/−) mice do not differ with wildtype mice in body weight and insulin sensitivity on either chow or high-fat diet, they develop hypothermia when subjected to acute cold exposure at 4℃. The Pitpnc1^(−/−) brown adipocytes exhibit defective β-oxidation and abnormal thermogenesis-related metabolism pathways in mitochondria. The deficiency of lipid mobilization in Pitpnc1^(−/−) brown adipocytes might be the result of excessive accumulation of phosphatidylcholine and a reduction of phosphatidic acid.
