| 3 | Spatial variations of macrozoobenthos and sediment nutrients in Lake Yangcheng: Emphasis on effect of pen culture of Chinese mitten crab显示文摘We determined the effect of Chinese mitten crab(CMC) pen culture on the quantified spatial distribution of the macrozoobenthic community and sediment nutrients in Lake Yangcheng.Redundancy analysis indicated that water temperature, macrophyte occurrence, sediment type, and crab culture were the main environmental factors that influence the spatiotemporal macrozoobenthic distribution. Macrozoobenthic assemblages in the lake were characterized by eutrophic indicator species. In the most polluted estuaries, the abundance and diversity indices of the whole community and abundance of chironomids and oligochaetes were significantly depressed, and sediment carbon(C) and phosphorus(P) were significantly enhanced compared with those in the western, middle(MB), and eastern basin(EB). Crab culture in this lake had significant effects on the species composition of the macrozoobenthic community in one of three CMC culture pens(CP), and generally depressed the abundance of most chironomid and oligochaete species. Significantly increased diversity, evenness, sediment carbon and nitrogen content, and sediment C:P ratio in the CP were found compared with those in the three basins.However, no conspicuous difference in sediment P content between the CP and the two basins of MB and EB was detected. | 4 | Heyan Kuntai capsule versus dehydroepiandrosterone in treating Chinese patients with infertility caused by diminished ovarian reserve: a multicenter, randomized controlled trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Heyan Kuntai capsule(HYKT) in treating women with infertility caused by diminished ovarian reserve(DOR).METHODS: One hundred eight eligible patientsfrom three Chinese hospitals were randomly divided into an HYKT treatment group(n = 55) or a dehydroepiandrosterone(DHEA) treatment group(n =53). Patients in the HYKT group were treated orally with four 0.5 g HYKT three times a day; patients in the DHEA group were treated with one 25.0 mg DHEA capsule three times a day. All patients were treated for 3 months and followed up over a3-month period.RESULTS: Of 108 patients, 12 dropped out: six from the HYKT group, and six from the DHEA group. Eleven patients got pregnant during the treatment. Serum anti-Müllerian hormone levels and antral follicle counts increased significantly in both groups after treatment(P < 0.05) especially in the HYKT group(P < 0.05). Serum follicle stimulating hormone(FSH) levels and FSH/luteinizing hormone ratios decreased(P < 0.05) with no significant difference between the two groups. Estradiol levels in the HYKT group and DHEA-sulfate levels in the DHEA group both increased(P < 0.05). The spontaneous pregnancy rates were 12% and 11% in the HYKT and DHEA groups, respectively(not significant). During the follow-up period, 16 patients in the HYKT group underwent in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer(IVF-ET) and the number of retrieved oocytes was(5.1 ± 1.8). In DHEA group, 20 patients underwent IVF-ET and the number of retrieved oocyte was(4.2 ± 1.9)(not significant); clinical pregnancy rates were 38% in the HYKT group and 20%in DHEA group(not significant). No significant adverse reactions were observed.CONCLUSION: HYKT can improve the ovarian re-serve and hormone levels in patients with infertility caused by DOR. | 6 | Selective laser melting of Al–8.5Fe–1.3V–1.7Si alloy: Investigation on the resultant microstructure and hardness显示文摘This article presents the microstructure and hardness variation of an Al–8.5Fe–1.3V–1.7Si(wt%, FVS0812) alloy after selective laser melting(SLM) modification. Three zones were distinguished across the melting pool of the SLM-processed FVS0812 alloy: the laser melted zone(LMZ), the melting pool border, and the heat affected zone(HAZ) in the previously deposited area around the melting pool. Inside the LMZ, either an extremely fine cellular-dendritic structure or a mixture zone of the a-Al matrix and nanoscale Al_(12)(Fe,V)_3Si particles appeared. With a decreased laser beam scanning speed, the cellular-dendritic structure zone within the LMZ shrank significantly while the mixture zone expanded. The a-Al and Al_(12)(Fe,V)_3Si mixture zone was also observed in the HAZ, but another phase, submicron h-Al_(13)Fe_4 particles with rectangular or hexagonal shapes,formed along the melting pool border. | 13 | Effect of emodin on Aquaporin 5 expression in rats with sepsis-induced acute lung injury显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of emodin on aquaporin 5(AQP5) expression in rats with sepsis-induced acute lung injury.METHODS: We divided 60 adult male Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 200-230 g, into four groups: control, sham surgery, model and emodin groups(n = 15 for each). We created a sepsis model with cecal ligation and puncture; the sham surgery group had their cecums replaced after exposure outside the abdominal cavity. Each group was further divided into three subgroups(n = 5 for each)and expressions of AQP5 m RNA and proteins in lung tissue were measured by real-time fluorescence polymerase chain reaction and western blot at 6, 12 and 24 h after surgery.RESULTS: AQP5 expression did not change over time in the control group and sham surgery group,but decreased over time in the model group. The lowest expression was found in 12-h subgroup,which significantly differed from the 6-h subgroup(P < 0.01). Compared with the model group, AQP5 expression in the emodin group was significantly higher in all the subgroups(all P <0.01). Expressions in the 12-h subgroup were the highest, and significantly differed from the other subgroups. | 14 | Community replacement sequences and paleoenvironmental changes in reef areas of South China from Late Permian to Early Triassic exemplified by Panlongdong section in northeastern Sichuan Basin显示文摘The well-known Permian Changhsingian calcisponge reef located at Panlongdong section,Xuanhan county,northeastern Sichuan Basin has attracted wide attention.Due to severe dolomitization and poor quality of the fossils,the P-T boundary in this section is difficult to determine.This study,for the first time,recognized six communities in the Upper Permian Changhsingian Changxing Formation through the Lower Triassic Induan Feixianguan Formation of the Panlongdong section.They are Bryozoan-Archaeolithoporella-calcisponge Community,Calcareous green algae-foraminifer-crinoid Community,Microgastropod-foraminifer Community,Ostracod-microgastropod-cystic microbe Community,Ostracod-small brachiopod Community,and Non-calcified cyanobacteria Community.By using community replacement and palaeoenvironmental analysis,for the first time,we set the P-T boundary of the Panlongdong section at the middle of the calcimicrobialite containing cystic microbes.The community replacement sequence in the Panlongdong section is similar to that in other contemporaneous sections in reef areas of South China,indicating universal palaeoenvironmental changes during the Permian-Triassic transition.The results show that:(1)Changhsingian calcisponge reefs in South China generally vanished before the mass extinction and may be related to the large regression in the Late Permian.(2)The Calcareous green algae-foraminifer-crinoid Community replaced reef community and continued till the mass extinction.The mass extinction was probably related to the global sea-level drop.(3)The first aftermath community was dominated by specialized microgastropods,followed by the microbes,and then by the specialized microgastropods and small brachiopods.The succession of the three communities reflected the change in environmental conditions from dysoxic to anoxic and again to dysoxic.(4)In the Early Triassic,the relict community in shallow sea had very low diversity and low abundance,and was dominated by crinoids,gastropods,and bivalves. | LIU LiJing JIANG HongXia WU YaSheng CAI ChunFang | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,5: | 4 |

There is a sophisticated ER quality control(ERQC) system to mitigate the effects of malfunctioning proteins and maintain ER homeostasis. The accumulation of misfolded proteins in the ER activates the unfolded protein response(UPR) to enhance ER protein folding and the degradation of misfolded proteins mediate by ERassociated degradation(ERAD). That ERQC reduces abiotic stress damage has been well studied in mammals and yeast. However, in plants, both ERAD and UPR have been studied separately and found to be critical for plant abiotic stress tolerance. In this study, we discovered thatUPR-associated transcription factors Atb ZIP17, AtbZIP28 and AtbZIP60 responded to tunicamycin(TM) and Na Cl induced ER stress and subsequently enhanced Arabidopsis thaliana abiotic stress tolerance. They regulated the expression level of ER chaperones and the HRD1-complex components.
