Expert Consensus on Polymyxin Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing and Clinical Interpretation显示文摘The polymyxins are important antimicrobial agents against antibiotic-resistant gram-negative bacilli. In 2020,the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute modified the clinical breakpoints for polymyxin susceptibility test by eliminating the'susceptible'interpretive category, only reporting intermediate(≤2 mg/L)and resistant(≥4 mg/L).However,the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing recommended the use of clinical breakpoints of W2 mg/L as susceptible and>2 mg/L as resistant. The first-line laboratorians and clinicians in China have been perplexed by the inconsistence of international polymyxin clinical breakpoints and discouraged by the difficulty of conducting polymyxin susceptibility testing. Therefore,it is urgently needed to make it clear for the laboratorians in China to know how to accurately carry out polymyxin susceptibility testing and standardize the interpretation of susceptibility testing results. To this end,the experts from relevant fields were convened to formulate this consensus statement on the testing and clinical interpretation of polymyxin susceptibility.Relevant recommendations are proposed accordingly for laboratorians and clinicians to streamline their daily work. | Qiwen Yang Xiaoling Ma Fupin Hu Jing Zhang Tongwen Sun Baiyi Chen Yingchun Xu Youning Liu Chinese Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing(ChiCAST) Expert Committee on Infectious Diseases,China Medical Education Association | 2021 | Chinese Medical Sciences Journal2021,36,1: | 1

Pancreatic stromal Gremlin 1 expression during pancreatic tumorigenesis显示文摘Chronic pancreatitis(CP)is a major risk factor of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC).How CP promotes pancreatic oncogenesis remains unclear.A characteristic feature of PDAC is its prominent desmoplasia in the tumor microenvironment, composed of activated fibroblasts and macrophages.Macrophages can be characterized as M1 or M2,with tumor-inhibiting or-promoting functions, respectively. We reported that Gremlin 1(GREM1),a key pro-fibrogenic factor,is upregulated in the stroma of CP.The current study aimed to investigate the expression of GREM1 and correlation between GREM1 and macrophages within the pancreas during chronic inflammation and the development of PDAC.By mRNA in situ hybridization,we detected GREM1 mRNA expression withinα-smooth muscle actin(SMA)-positive fibroblasts of the pancreatic stroma. These designated FibroblastsGrem1+marginally increased from CP to pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia(PanIN)and PDAC.Within PDAC,FibroblastsGrem1+increased with higher pathological tumor stages and in a majority of PDAC subtypes screened.Additionally,FibroblastsGrem1+positively correlated with total macrophages(MacCD68+)and M2 macrophages(M2CD163+)in PDAC.To begin exploring potential molecular links between FibroblastsGrem1+and macrophages in PDAC,we examined the expression of macrophage migration inhibitory factor(MIF),an endogenous counteracting molecule of GREM1 and an M1 macrophage promoting factor.By IHC staining of MIF,we found MIF to be expressed by tumor cells, positively correlated with GREM1;by IHC co-staining,we found MIF to be negatively correlated with M2CD163+expression.Our findings suggest that GREM1 expression by activated fibroblasts may promote PDAC development, and GREM1/MIF may play an important role in macrophage phenotype. | Joy M.Davis Binglu Cheng Madeline M.Drake Qiang Yu Baibing Yang Jing Li Chunhui Liu Mamoun Younes Xiurong Zhao Jennifer M.Bailey Qiang Shen Tien C.Ko Yanna Cao | 2022 | Genes & Diseases2022,9,1: | 0
Executive summary of Chinese expert consensus for topical application of anti-microbial agents for lower respiratory tract infection in adults显示文摘In recent years, with the increased prevalence of multi-drug resistant(MDR)bacterial infection and chronic pulmonary infection, the topical application of anti-microbial agents, mainly inhaled antibiotics, has come back to clinical practice.Several formulations for nebulization and dry powder inhaler(DPI)have been approved for inhaled anti-infective therapy.Meanwhile, evidence and experience have been accumulated in the use of anti-microbial agents delivered via airway. However, the available studies in this field are heterogenous in the study population, drug delivery route and dosages. The efficacy and safety of inhaled anti-infective therapy in various types of lower respiratory tract infections(LRTIs)need to be evaluated.Moreover. | Jing Zhang Qijian Cheng Yi Huang Hong Fan Guoxiang Lai Xiangdong Mu Wei Sha Danyang She Ning Shen Xin Su Jinfu Xu Feng Ye Xinlun Tian Tiantuo Zhang Hua Zhou Youning Liu Lixian He Heping Xiao Bei He Yi Shi Xiangyan Zhang Bin Cao Jieming Qu on behalf of Pulmonary Infection Assembly of Chinese Thoracic Society | 2022 | Chinese Medical Journal2022,135,22: | 0
Manufacturable Novel Nanogrease with Superb Physical Properties显示文摘High-performance nanogrease manufactured from carbon nanomaterials is observed to be stable and homogeneous and have superb physical properties, such as thermal and electrical conductivities, compared with current commercial greases made of lithium, calcium, and aluminum. For the first time, carbon nanomaterials have been observed to disperse well as the sole thickeners in oil systems,e.g.,polyalphaolefin and polyester(ROYCO),without the aid of any chemical surfactants.Three-dimensional percolation network structures that exist among carbon nanomaterials are easily scalable, which can be attributed to the intermolecular van der Waals forces. Moreover, the introduction of hydrogen bonding in any form to grease significantly increases its thermal and electrical conductivities and substantially reduces the weight percentage of carbon nanomaterials needed to fabricate stable grease. For example, loading of only 1.4 wt%hydroxyl-functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotube(MWNT-OH)with Krytox XHT750 oil leads to a 37.8%increase in thermal conductivity.Moreover,75%glycerol,25% water, and 4.5 wt% MWNT-OH yielded the lowest electrical resistivity of 10.0 Ω cm.This finding can be extended to hydrogen bonding materials with functional groups, such as OH,COOH,F,and NH.The nanogrease reported in this study has been manufactured using the three-roll mill method, which is an easy and cost-effective method,as the loading weight percentage of carbon nanomaterials to fabricate stable grease decreases from 12 wt% to 3-4 wt%.Furthermore, the process is easily scalable, reproduced, and optimized. This novel high-performance nanogrease has a high commercial value and numerous applications and could replace current commercial greases. | Hammad Younes Ding Lou Haiping Hong Huahui Chen Hongtao Liu Yinhuai Qiang | 2021 | Nanomanufacturing and Metrology2021,4,4: | 0
Boron quantum dots all-optical modulator based on efficient photothermal effect显示文摘All-optical devices without external electronic components have drawn extraordinary attentions in all-optical communication. In this work, boron quantum dots(BQDs)were synthesized by a facile liquid-phase exfoliation method. The as-prepared BQDs showed good structural homogeneity and crystallinity, broadband optical absorption as well as excellent photothermal properties.Femtosecond-resolved transient absorption further revealed the short carrier relaxation time of BQDs.Inspired by the outstanding photothermal properties and ultrafast carrier dynamic of BQDs,we fabricated BQDsbased all-optical modulator. The phase shift with a slope efficiency of 0.032π/m W and response time of 0.97 ms can be achieved. The modulator was used in laser resonance cavity to achieve all-optical actively Q-switched laser operation with control repetition rate. This prototypical BQDs-based all-optical modulator shows a great potential to be applied in all-optical information processing and communication. | Cong Wang Qianyuan Chen Hualong Chen Jun Liu Yufeng Song Jie Liu Delong Li Yanqi Ge Youning Gong Yupeng Zhang Han Zhang | 2021 | Opto-Electronic Advances2021,4,7: | 0
