2Small molecules for fat combustion: targeting obesity显示文摘Obesity is increasing in an alarming rate worldwide, which causes higher risks of some diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Current therapeutic approaches,either pancreatic lipase inhibitors or appetite suppressors, are generally of limited effectiveness. Brown adipose tissue(BAT) and beige cells dissipate fatty acids as heat to maintain body temperature, termed non-shivering thermogenesis; the activity and mass of BAT and beige cells are negatively correlated with overweight and obesity. The existence of BAT and beige cells in human adults provides an effective weight reduction therapy, a process likely to be amenable to pharmacological intervention. Herein, we combed through the physiology of thermogenesis and the role of BAT and beige cells in combating with obesity. We summarized the thermogenic regulators identified in the past decades, targeting G proteincoupled receptors, transient receptor potential channels, nuclear receptors and miscellaneous pathways.Advances in clinical trials were also presented. The main purpose of this review is to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge from the biological importance of thermogenesis in energy homeostasis to the representative thermogenic regulators for treating obesity. 3Identification of mecciRNAs and their roles in the mitochondrial entry of proteins显示文摘Mammalian mitochondria have small genomes encoding very limited numbers of proteins.Over one thousand proteins and noncoding RNAs encoded by the nuclear genome must be imported from the cytosol into the mitochondria.Here,we report the identification of hundreds of circular RNAs(mecciRNAs)encoded by the mitochondrial genome.We provide both in vitro and in vivo evidence to show that mecciRNAs facilitate the mitochondrial entry of nuclear-encoded proteins by serving as molecular chaperones in the folding of imported proteins.Known components involved in mitochondrial protein and RNA importation,such as TOM40 and PNPASE,interact with mecciRNAs and regulate protein entry.The expression of mecciRNAs is regulated,and these transcripts are critical for the adaption of mitochondria to physiological conditions and diseases such as stresses and cancers by modulating mitochondrial protein importation.mecciRNAs and their associated physiological roles add categories and functions to the known eukaryotic circular RNAs and shed novel light on the communication between mitochondria and the nucleus.Xu Liu Xiaolin Wang Jingxin Li Shanshan Hu Yuqi Deng Hao Yin Xichen Bao Qiangfeng Cliff Zhang Geng Wang Baolong Wang Qinghua Shi Ge Shan 2020Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,10:15
4Effects of elevated CO_2 concentration and nitrogen supply on biomass and active carbon of freshwater marsh after two growing seasons in Sanjiang Plain, Northeast China显示文摘An experiments were carried out with treatments differing in nitrogen supply (0, 5 and 15 g N/m2) and CO2 levels (350 and 700 μmol/mol) using OTC (open top chamber) equipment to investigate the biomass of Calamagrostis angustifolia and soil active carbon contents after two years. The results showed that elevated CO2 concentration increased the biomass of C. angustifolia and the magnitude of response varied with each growth period. Elevated CO2 concentration has increased aboveground biomass by 16.7% and 17.6% during the jointing and heading periods and only 3.5% and 9.4% during dough and maturity periods. The increases in belowground biomass due to CO2 elevation was 26.5%, 34.0% and 28.7% during the heading, dough and maturity periods, respectively. The responses of biomass to enhanced CO2 concentrations are differed in N levels. Both the increase of aboveground biomass and belowground biomass were greater under high level of N supply (15 g N/m2). Elevated CO2 concentration also increased the allocation of biomass and carbon in root. Under elevated CO2 concentration, the average values of active carbon tended to increase. The increases of soil active soil contents followed the sequence of microbial biomass carbon (10.6%) > dissolved organic carbon (7.5%) > labile oxidable carbon (6.6%) > carbohydrate carbon (4.1%). Stepwise regressions indicated there were significant correlations between the soil active carbon contents and plant biomass. Particularly, microbial biomass carbon, labile oxidable carbon and carbohydrate carbon were found to be correlated with belowground biomass, while dissolved organic carbon has correlation with aboveground biomass. 7Structural evolution of non dendritic AlSi7Mg alloy during reheating显示文摘The structural evolution of non dendritic AlSi7Mg alloy during reheating in resistance furnace was studied. The alloy ingots were produced by electromagnetic stirring during solidification. It was found that, the Si phase in eutectic dissolves in a way of diffusion toward α phase, its appearance changes from flake to dot like, and tends to be fine and spheroidal with increasing reheating temperature. The thinner the flake, the lower the temperature for the occurrence of this process, and the higher the transforming speed. The eutectic melts partially when Si phase dissolves to some extent, and the morphology and size of primary α phase begin to change. The dendrite and rosette α phases tends to sphericize. The size of the former becomes larger, while the size of the latter reduces to be 1/2~1/4 of the original size. 8Variation of carbon and nitrogen stoichiometry along a chronosequence of natural temperate forest in northeastern China显示文摘Aims Carbon(C)and nitrogen(N)stoichiometry contributes to under-standing elemental compositions and coupled biogeochemical cycles in ecosystems.However,we know little about the temporal patterns of C:N stoichiometry during forest development.The goal of this study is to explore the temporal patterns of intraspecific and ecosystem components’variations in C:N stoichiometry and the scaling relationships between C and N at different successional stages.Methods Along forest development in a natural temperate forest,northeastern China,four age gradients were categorized into ca.10-,30-,70-and 200-year old,respectively,and three 20 m×20 m plots were set up for each age class.Leaves,branches,fine roots and fresh litter of seven dominant species as well as mineral soil at depth of 0-10 cm were sampled.A Universal CHN Elemental Analyzer was used to determine the C and N concentrations in all samples.Important Findings Intraspecific leaf C,N and C:N ratios remained stable along forest development regardless of tree species;while C,N concentrations and C:N ratios changed significantly either in branches or in fine roots,and they varied with tree species except Populus davidiana(P<0.05).For ecosystem components,we discovered that leaf C:N ratios remained stable when stand age was below ca.70 years and dominant tree species were light-demanding pioneers such as Betula platyphylla and Populus davidiana,while increased signifi-cantly at the age of ca.200 years with Pinus koraiensis as the dom-inant species.C:N ratios in branches and fresh litter did not changed significantly along forest development stages.C concentrations scaled isometrically with respect to N concentrations in mineral soil but not in other ecosystem components.Our results indicate that,leaf has a higher intraspecific C:N stoichiometric stability compared to branch and fine root,whereas for ecosystem components,shifts in species composition mainly affect C:N ratios in leaves rather than other components.This study also demonstrated that C and N remain coupled in mineral soils but not in plant organs or fresh litter during forest development.Xingyun Liang Shirong Liu Hui Wang Jingxin Wang 2018Journal of Plant Ecology2018,11,3:9

10Design Bistatic Interferometric DEM Generation Algorithm and Its Theoretical Accuracy Analysis for LuTan-1 Satellites显示文摘LuTan-1(LT-1)is a constellation with two full-polarization L-band radar satellites designed by China,and the first satellite was scheduled to be launched in December 2021 and the second one in January 2022.The LT-1 will be operated for deformation monitoring in repeat-pass mode,and for DEM generation in bistatic mode,improving self-sufficiency of SAR data for the field of geology,earthquake,disaster reduction,geomatics,forestry and so on.In this paper,we focused on designing an algorithm for interferometric DEM generation using LT-1 bistatic satellites.The basic principle,main error sources and errors control of the DEM generation algorithm of LT-1 were systematically analyzed.The experiment results demonstrated that:①The implemented algorithm had rigorous resolution with a theoretic accuracy better than 0.03 m for DEM generation.②The errors in satellite velocity and Doppler centroid had no obvious effect on DEM accuracy and they could be neglected.While the errors in position,baseline,slant range and interferometric phase had a significant effect on DEM accuracy.And the DEM error caused by baseline error was dominated,followed by the slant range error,interferometric phase error and satellite position error.③To obtain an expected DEM accuracy of 2 m,the baseline error must be strictly controlled and its accuracy shall be 1.0 mm or better for Cross-Track and Normal-Direction component,respectively.And the slant range error and interferometric phase error shall be reasonably controlled.The research results were of great significance for accurately grasping the accuracy of LT-1 data products and their errors control,and could provide a scientific auxiliary basis for LT-1 in promoting global SAR technology progress and the generation of high-precision basic geographic data.Bing XU Liqun LIU Zhiwei LI Yan ZHU Jingxin HOU Wenxiang MAO 2022Journal of Geodesy and Geoinformation Science2022,5,1:6

13Hd1,Ghd7,and DTH8 synergistically determine the rice heading date and yield-related agronomic traits显示文摘Heading date determines the seasonal and regional adaptation of rice(Oryza sativa L.)varieties and is mainly controlled by photoperiod sensitivity(PS).The core heading date genes Hd1,Ghd7,DTH8,and PRR37 act synergistically in regulating the PS.In this study,we systematically analyze the heading date,PS,and agronomic traits of eight homozygous lines with various combinations of Hd1,Ghd7,and DTH8 alleles in the prr37 background under long-day(LD)and short-day(SD)conditions,respectively.We find that Hd1 alone promotes heading,regardless of the day length.However,under LDs,Hd1 suppresses flowering,in coordination with functional Ghd7 or with Ghd7 and DTH8.These loci cooperate to negatively regulate the Ehd1-Hd3 a/RFT1 pathway and delay heading.Under SDs,Hd1 competes with various heading suppressors to promote heading.Therefore,the dual function of Hd1 is vital for PS.The lines carrying Hd1 alone show reduced plant height with fewer primary and secondary branches in panicles.Lines carrying Ghd7 and DTH8(with hd1)show delayed heading and improve agronomic traits.Overall,our results reveal the regulation of rice PS flowering by the core heading date genes and their effects on agronomic traits,providing valuable information for the selection of rice varieties for adaptation to different light and temperature conditions.Kangli Sun Minghui Huang Wubei Zong Dongdong Xiao Chen Lei Yanqiu Luo Yingang Song Shengting Li Yu Hao Wanni Luo Bingqun Xu Xiaotong Guo Guangliang Wei Letian Chen Yao-Guang Liu Jingxin Guo 2022Journal of Genetics and Genomics2022,49,5:4
14Characteristics of typhoon disturbed gaps in an old-growth tropical montane rainforest in Hainan Island, China显示文摘Disturbances that create gaps can shape the structure and function of forests. However, such disturbance regimes in Asian tropical montane rainforests remain largely unquantified. Least studied are typhoon disturbances that are attributable to climate change. We investigated gap characteristics in terms of size, age, and gapmaker to quantify the gap disturbance regimes in an intact old-growth tropical montane rainforest on Hainan Island,China. The intensity of typhoons has increased since 1949,and typhoon winds blow mostly(45.5%) from the northeast corner of Hainan Island, resulting in a higher frequency of gaps in the northeast. A total of 221 gap-makers(trees that fell to create canopy gaps) and 53 gaps were observed in a 3.16 ha old-growth rainforest. Most canopy gaps(85%)were <200 m^2. The average size of canopy gaps was smaller in the rainforest than in other tropical forests, while the average size of expanded gaps was similar to those in other tropical forests. The maximum age of gaps was 23.5 years indicating that gaps had more rapid turnover than other parts of tropical forests. The frequency distribution of gap-makers followed a lognormal distribution with a distinctive peak at three gap-makers, which was different from the inverse J-shaped curve typical of other tropical forests. Gaps were recorded mainly on slopes between 20° and 35° and wood density of gap-makers was between 0.6 and 0.7 g cm^(-3). 16Thermal conductivity and bending strength of SiC composites reinforced by pitch-based carbon fibers显示文摘In this work,pitch-based carbon fibers were utilized to reinforce silicon carbide(SiC)composites via reaction melting infiltration(RMI)method by controlling the reaction temperature and resin carbon content.Thermal conductivities and bending strengths of composites obtained under different preparation conditions were characterized by various analytical methods.Results showed the formation of SiC whiskers(SiC_(w))during RMI process according to vapor–solid(VS)mechanism.SiC_(w) played an important role in toughening the C_(pf)/SiC composites due to crack bridging,crack deflection,and SiC_(w) pull-out.Increase in reaction temperature during RMI process led to an initial increase in thermal conductivity along in-plane and thickness directions of composites,followed by a decline.At reaction temperature of 1600℃,thermal conductivities along the in-plane and thickness directions were estimated to be 203.00 and 39.59 W/(m×K),respectively.Under these conditions,bending strength was recorded as 186.15±3.95 MPa.Increase in resin carbon content before RMI process led to the generation of more SiC matrix.Thermal conductivities along in-plane and thickness directions remained stable with desirable values of 175.79 and 38.86 W/(m×K),respectively.By comparison,optimal bending strength improved to 244.62±3.07 MPa.In sum,these findings look promising for future application of pitch-based carbon fibers for reinforcement of SiC ceramic composites.Liyang CAO Yongsheng LIU Yunhai ZHANG Yejie CAO Jingxin LI Jie CHEN Lu ZHANG Zheng QI 2022Journal of Advanced Ceramics2022,11,2:2
17Soil carbon dynamics in a Pinus massoniana plantation following clear-cutting and slash removal显示文摘Aims Slash removal is a common practice to prepare recently harvested sites for replanting.However,little is known about its impact on soil carbon(C)dynamics in subtropical plantations.This study evaluates the effects of burning versus manual slash removal site preparation treatments on soil organic carbon(SOC),soil respiration and soil microbial community structure in a Pinus massoniana plantation in southern China.Methods Three areas within a mature P.massoniana plantation were clearcut.Two months following harvesting,slash on one-half of each area was burned(BURN),whereas slash was manually removed(MANR)on the other portion.Slash removal treatments were also compared with adjacent uncut plantation areas(UNCUT).Soil samples,and soil respiration measurements were used to characterize soil properties and microbial communities following slash removal treatments.Important Findings Mean soil respiration rates from the MANR and BURN treatments were 26%and 17%lower,respectively,than the UNCUT treatment over 1 year.The MANR and BURN treatment resulted in soils with 27%and 9%reduction in total phospholipid fatty acids(PLFAs)and 18%and 10%reduction in bacterial PLFAs,respectively,compared with the UNCUT treatment.However,no significant differences existed between slash removal treatments with respect to soil chemical properties,SOC chemical compositions,soil respiration and microbial communities;although PLFA patterns were notably different for the burned plots.Most factors affecting C dynamics and microbial communities were not sensitive to the differences imparted to the ecosystem due to manual slash removal or burning.Our results suggested that low-intensity burning after clear-cutting might have no significant effect on soil C pool and its dynamics compared with manual slash removal in subtropical plantations.Yuan Wen Jamie LSchuler Shirong Liu Pu Mou Hui Wang Haolong Yu Jingxin Wang 2016Journal of Plant Ecology2016,9,1:2
