1Quantitative simulation and verification of upgrade law of sustainable development in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration显示文摘The natural formation and development of urban agglomerations is a process in which core cities continue to unite their neighboring cities to enhance sustainability for their own sustainable development.The upgrade mechanism of sustainable development urban agglomeration is a nonlinear composite upgrade curve that is a function of time,increasing with the number of cities.In this paper,the sustainable upgrade function curve,upgrade rate,and upgrade speed of urban agglomerations were solved using a geometrical derivation,and the index system for measuring the upgrade capability of sustainable development of urban agglomerations was established.The dynamic change in economic sustainable upgrade capability,social sustainable upgrade capability,environmental sustainable upgrade capability,and comprehensive sustainable upgrade capability of a Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration from 2000 to 2015 was measured by technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution and a grey correlation method,and a comprehensive,intercity unite strength model and a unite threshold calculation method for urban agglomerations were established.The research shows that the economic sustainable upgrade capability,social sustainable upgrade capability,environmental sustainable upgrade capability,and comprehensive sustainable upgrade capability of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration all show a wave-like rising trend.The average annual upgrade speeds during 2000-2015 are,respectively,2.4%.1.67%,1.1%,and 1.74%,with the intercity comprehensive unite strength of urban agglomerations maintaining a general increase;but there is a limit to the joint threshold.From 2000 to 2015,as the core city of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration,Beijing,to enhance its sustainable upgrade capability,jointly developed with Tianjin,Langfang,and Baoding before 2000,Tangshan in 2002,Cangzhou in 2009,Zhangjiakou and Shijiazhuang in 2012,and Chengde in 2014.By 2015,the comprehensive unite strength between Beijing and four cities(Handan,Qinhuangdao,Hengshui,and Xingtai) was still lower than the unite threshold of 6.14.These four cities are relatively far from Beijing,and offer no substantial contribution to the sustainable upgrade capability of Beijing.Through multiple fittings of the upgrade curve using the long-term sequence index of the comprehensive sustainable upgrade capability of Beijing(the core city of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration) from 2000 to 2015,it was found that the simulated curve of the comprehensive sustainable upgrade function of the agglomeration was very similar to the curve of the comprehensive sustainable upgrade capability,which indicates that the simulation results are satisfactory.The future comprehensive sustainable upgrade capability of the agglomeration can be analyzed and predicted by the comprehensive sustainable upgrade function model.This study provides quantitative decision-supporting evidence for promoting the coordinated development of the Beijing-TianjinHebei urban agglomeration and provides theoretical guidance and algorithms for determining the number of cities joined with the sustainable development of national urban agglomerations.Chuanglin FANG Longwu LIANG Zhenbo WANG 2019Science China Earth Sciences2019,62,12:6

3Urbanization and eco-environment coupling circle theory and coupler regulation显示文摘A near-distance,nonlinear coupling relationship objectively exists between urbanization and the eco-environment.The issue of how to coordinate the relationship between them has become a global strategic and scientific issue.This study reveals the nature,relationship and intensity of coupling between urbanization and the eco-environment from a theoretical perspective.Based on the strength of coupling,relationships can be characterized as having very-low,low,medium,high,very-high or full coupling intensity,which correspond to the categories of random coupling,indirect coupling,loose coupling,cooperative coupling,close coupling,and controlled coupling.Together,these make up an urbanization and eco-environment'coupling tower.'This study also develops an urbanization and eco-environment coupling circle theory and generates 45 coupling graphs(including linear,exponential-curve,logarithmic-curve,double exponential-curve and S-curve graphs)per 10°of rotation of the coupling circle,with different graphs corresponding to different urban development stages and development models.Of the various coupling graphs,the S-curve graph is considered the optimum,as it reflects the best interactivity scenario between urbanization and the eco-environment.Using an S-curve coupling graph,and with the help of an SD model and based on the complex one-to-one,one-to-many,and many-to-many relationships between the variables,this study develops the Urbanization and Eco-environment Coupler(UEC).The UEC is composed of 11 regulating elements and 201 variables.If one variable changes,it changes the whole,affecting the structure,function and regulation of the entire coupler.The UEC includes three spatio-temporal scales:static regulation between multiple urbanization areas and eco-environment areas at the same time,dynamic regulation between the same urbanization area and eco-environment area at different times,and dynamic regulation between multiple urbanization areas and eco-environment areas at different times.Regulation gradually promotes evolution from low-level coupling to high-level coupling between urbanization and the eco-environment.FANG Chuanglin CUI Xuegang DENG Xiangzheng LIANG Longwu 2020Journal of Geographical Sciences2020,30,7:3
4Brood sex ratio in the Yellow-bellied Prinia(Prinia flaviventris)显示文摘Background:The adjustment of sex ratios in birds can occur at the egg and nestling stages. Previous studies showed that the sex ratio was affected by environmental factors and parental condition; it may result in seasonal and ecosystem differences.Methods:In this study, the brood sex ratio of the Yellow-bellied Prinia(Prinia flaviventris) in the Nonggang area, Guangxi, southwestern China, was investigated during the breeding season from May to June in 2013 using PCR amplification from whole-genome DNA extracted from blood samples. A total of 31 nests of Yellow-bellied Prinia, including 132 brood fledglings and 31 pairs, were sampled.Results:The results showed that the brood sex ratio of the Yellow-bellied Prinia was 1:1, and sex ratios of different nests were evenly distributed within the study area. No significant relationship was found between parental quality and nest characteristics with the brood sex ratio.Conclusions:The present study indicated that no brood sex ratio bias in the Yellow-bellied Prinia highlighted the complexity of sex ratio adjustment in birds. 5Green economic efficiency in the Yangtze River Delta:spatiotemporal evolution and influencing factors显示文摘Based on economic-social-resource-environment perspective,which people’s welfare was considered compared with the traditional perspective,using SSU and PP model,spatial analysis method,spatial econometric model to study green economy efficiency(GRE)of 26 Cities in the Yangtze River Delta from 2005 to 2015.The results show the following:Corrected GRE is markedly lower than conventional efficiency;Stage characteristics are obvious of GRE.An overall spatial pattern has emerged of lower efficiency in the east and higher efficiency in the west,and exist clear signs of spatial agglomeration.The spatial Dubin model has abetter fitting effect.The biggest direct effect on local green economic efficiency and spatial spillover effects on nearby areas is proportion of tertiary industry.Zhenbo Wang Xinming Wang Longwu Liang 2019Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2019,5,1:2

12Development and behavior of Plaintive Cuckoo(Cacomantis merulinus) nestlings and their Common Tailorbird(Orthotomus sutorius) hosts显示文摘Background:Our knowledge of avian brood parasitism is primarily based on studies of a few selected species.Recently,researchers have targeted a wider range of host–parasite systems,which has allowed further evaluation of hypotheses derived from well-known study systems but also disclosed adaptations that were previously unknown.Here we present developmental and behavioral data on the previously undescribed Plaintive Cuckoo(Cacomantis merulinus) nestling and one of its hosts,the Common Tailorbird(Orthotomus sutorius).Methods:We discovered more than 80 Common Tailorbird nests within an area of 25 km2,and we recorded nestling characteristics,body mass,tarsus length and begging display every 3 days for both species.Results:Plaintive Cuckoo nestlings followed a developmental pathway that was relatively similar to that of their well-studied relative,the Common Cuckoo(Cuculus canorus).Tailorbird foster siblings were evicted from the nest rim.The cuckoo nestlings gained weight faster than host nestlings,and required 3–9 days longer time to fledge than host nestlings.Predation was high during the early stages of development,but the nestlings acquired a warning display around 11 days in the nest,after which none of the studied cuckoo nestlings were depredated.The cuckoos' begging display,which appeared more intense than that of host nestlings,was initially vocally similar with that of the host nestlings but began to diverge from the host sound output after day 9.Conclusions:The developmental data on Plaintive Cuckoo nestlings and their tailorbird host builds an important foundation for future work on the co-evolutionary interactions in this parasite–host system.Odd Helge Tunheim B?rd G.Stokke Longwu Wang Canchao Yang Aiwu Jiang Wei Liang Eivin R?skaft Frode Foss?y 2019Avian Research2019,10,1:1

14Revisiting the Relationship Between Urbanization and Economic Development in China Since the Reform and Opening-up显示文摘The relationship between urbanization and economic development has become a hot topic in the scientific community due to its great practical significance,and economic and social value.However,this relationship continues to change dynamically.In the new stage of urbanization,it is urgent to reveal the causal relationship quantitatively and diagnose the future direction systematically.Based on this,this paper calculates the contribution rate of China’s urbanization to economic development from 1978 to 2019 and uses the panel data cointegration test method to explore the causal relationship between urbanization and economic development in China.The study has three principal results.First,the contribution rate of urbanization to economic growth has maintained the overall growth trend from1978 to 2019,but the growth rate of urbanization’s contribution to economic growth has been relatively low since 2012.It is an important reason that the real estate sector has moved into a new stage of transformation.Second,the cointegration test shows that economic development is a significant factor in advancing urbanization and the urbanization is the product of economic development.Urbanization has a positive feedback effect on economic development,but this effect does not pass the 5%significance level test.The impulse response function shows that the impact of urbanization on economic development is relatively small and stable,indicating that it is limited that the boost of economic development by land-centered urbanization.Third,China’s urbanization and economic development have both shown rapid growth for some time,but their relationship is still the low level of coordination,which has also led to a downward trend in the contribution of new-type,people-oriented urbanization to economic growth in recent years.In the future,China’s urbanization and economy need to maintain relatively medium-low speed growth in the medium-long term,and we should boost the coordinated development of urbanization and economy from low level to high level.LIANG Longwu CHEN Mingxing LU Dadao 2022Chinese Geographical Science2022,32,1:1

18Do swallows(Hirundo daurica)use the visual cue of hatchling down-feathers to discriminate parasite alien nestlings?显示文摘Egg recognition is a variable but common anti-parasitism defense among different species of birds with brood parasites.In contrast,nestling recognition is rare.Very few studies have found nestling recognition in brood parasite hosts and determined the rejection mechanism behind this behavior.Hosts may use the number of hatchling downfeathers to reject parasite nestlings.We tested whether hatchling down-feathers is a visual cue for the red-rumped swallow,a host that can recognize and reject parasite nestlings.Our results indicated that red-rumped swallows do not recognize foreign nestlings based on hatchling down-feathers.The closed nest structure and hatchling morph may explain the absence of such a mechanism.None of the rejection mechanisms found in previous studies could explain the nestling recognition in swallows.Olfactory cues,tactile cues,or other visual cues,except for single nestling or hatchling down-feathers,may provide nestling recognition in red-rumped swallows.More study is needed to evaluate these possibilities.Jiaojiao WANG Qihong LI Longwu WANG Canchao YANG Wei LIANG 2020Integrative Zoology2020,15,5:0
