| 2 | Proteomic and molecular investigations revealed that Acidithiobacillus caldus adopts multiple strategies for adaptation to NaCl stress显示文摘Acidithiobacillus caldus plays an important role in commercial bioleaching.To understand how NaCl stress adaptation occurs in A.caldus,we grew A.caldus strain SM-1 in media containing high NaCl concentrations.SM-1 grew at concentrations of up to 1.0-mol L^(-1)NaCl,but growth was severely inhibited at higher concentrations.Proteomic analysis showed that SM-1 used multiple strategies to respond to NaCl stress.In addition to several heatshock proteins,enzymes involved in proline biosynthesis increased under NaCl stress.In addition,two DNA-binding proteins and a third protein of unknown function(Atc_(1291)),which was subsequently identified as a putative single-stranded DNA-binding protein,were up-regulated in the presence of NaCl stress.These DNA-binding proteins might play a role in response to osmotic stress.Atc_(1291)was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli.Surprisingly,we found that E.coli BL21/pET28a-atc_(1291)grew to higher cell densities than E.coli BL21/pET28a,regardless of NaCI stress.Homologs to Atc_(1291)were identified in several groups of Proleohacleria.The role of Atc_(1291)in enhancing cell growth needs further investigation. | Xu Guo Chengying Jiang Yuanming Luo Mingjiang Zhang Ansgar Poetsch Shuangjiang Liu | 2014 | Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,3: | 2 |

| 7 | Genomic footprints of sorghum domestication and breeding selection for multiple end uses显示文摘Domestication and diversification have had profound effects on crop genomes.Originating in Africa and subsequently spreading to different continents,sorghum(Sorghum bicolor)has experienced multiple onsets of domestication and intensive breeding selection for various end uses.However,how these processes have shaped sorghum genomes is not fully understood.In the present study,population genomics analyses were performed on a worldwide collection of 445 sorghum accessions,covering wild sorghum and four end-use subpopulations with diverse agronomic traits.Frequent genetic exchanges were found among various subpopulations,and strong selective sweeps affected 14.68%(∼107.5 Mb)of the sorghum genome,including 3649,4287,and 3888 genes during sorghum domestication,improvement of grain sorghum,and improvement of sweet sorghum,respectively.Eight different models of haplotype changes in domestication genes from wild sorghum to landraces and improved sorghum were observed,and Sh1-and SbTB1-type genes were representative of two prominent models,one of soft selection or multiple origins and one of hard selection or an early single domestication event.We also demonstrated that the Dry gene,which regulates stem juiciness,was unconsciously selected during the improvement of grain sorghum.Taken together,these findings provide new genomic insights into sorghum domestication and breeding selection,and will facilitate further dissection of the domestication and molecular breeding of sorghum. | Xiaoyuan Wu Yuanming Liu Hong Luo Li Shang Chuanyuan Leng Zhiquan Liu Zhigang Li Xiaochun Lu Hongwei Cai Huaiqing Hao Hai-Chun Jing | 2022 | Molecular Plant2022,15,3: | 1 |

| 10 | Character of diaphragm compound muscle action potential and phrenic nerve conduction time in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome显示文摘BACKGROUND: Both hypoxia and carbon dioxide retention can damage phrenic nerve and muscle conduction, as well as diaphragm function. Diaphragm compound muscle action potential and phrenic nerve conduction time are reliable indicators for measuring phrenic nerve and diaphragm function. OBJECTIVES: To verify the hypothesis that changes of phrenic nerve conduction time (PNCT) and diaphragm compound muscle action potential (CMAP) in obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) patients might contribute to the decline of phrenic nerve and diaphragm function. PNCT and CMAP were measured with multipair esophageal electrodes combined with unilateral magnetic stimulation. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Case controlled study. The experiment was carried out in Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Disease, Guangzhou Medical College, from June 2005 to April 2006. PARTICIPANTS: Twenty seven OSAHS patients and eight primary snoring subjects from Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Disease, Guangzhou Medical College were recruited and all subjects were diagnosed by polysomnography (PSG). Sixteen healthy, non-snoring subjects in the hospital for medical examination during the same time period were selected as the control group. METHODS: Esophageal electrodes, made by Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Disease, combined with unilateral magnetic stimulation, were used to measure PNCT and CMAP of all subjects. PNCT was defined as the time from stimulation artifact to the onset of CMAP and diaphragm CMAP amplitude was measured from peak to peak. Oxygen desaturation index and apnea-hypopnea index were measured using PSG, and their relevance to PNCT and CMAP were analyzed. PNCT and CMAP in five OSAHS patients were repeatedly measured after effective nasal continuous positive airway pressure treatment for more than 2 months. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: (1) PNCT and diaphragm CMAP of subjects in each group. (2) Relevance of oxygen desaturation index and apnea-hypopnea index to PNCT and CMAP. (3) Changes of PNCT and CMAP of OSAHS patients before and after treatment. RESULTS: All subjects were included in the analyzed results. (1) PNCT of the OSAHS group was significantly longer compared to that of the control and primary snore groups, while CMAP of the OSAHS group was significantly lower (P < 0.05). (2) PNCT and CMAP recorded from both sides correlated significantly with oxygen desaturation index and with apnea-hypopnea index (P < 0.01). (3) PNCT shortened significantly after effective nasal continuous positive airway pressure treatment for more than 2 months ( P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Prolongation of PNCT and decrease of CMAP might contribute to the decline of phrenic nerve and diaphragm function caused by repeated nocturnal hypoxia and carbon dioxide retention. | 12 | Cysteine-enhanced reductive degradation of nitrobenzene using nano-sized zero-valent iron by accelerated electron transfer显示文摘As an aliphatic amino acid,cysteine(CYS)is diffuse in the living cells of plants and animals.However,little is known of its role in the reactivity of nano-sized zero-valent iron(NZVI)in the degradation of pollutants.This study shows that the introduction of CYS to the NZVI system can help improve the efficiency of reduction,with 30%more efficient degradation and a reaction rate constant nine times higher when nitrobenzene(NB)is used as probe compound.The rates of degradation of NB were positively correlated with the range of concentrations of CYS from 0 to 10 mmol/L.The introduction of CYS increased the maximum concentration of Fe(Ⅲ)by 12 times and that of Fe(II)by four times in this system.A comparison of systems featuring only CYS or Fe(Ⅱ)showed that the direct reduction of NB was not the main factor influencing its CYS-stimulated removal.The reduction in the concentration of CYS was accompanied by the generation of cystine(CY,the oxidized form of cysteine),and both eventually became stable.The introduction of CY also enhanced NB degradation due to NZVI,accompanied by the regeneration of CYS.This supports the claim that CYS can accelerate electron transfer from NZVI to NB,thus enhancing the efficiency of degradation of NB. | Yuanming Peng Yunsong Mu Chao Xue Anwei Chen Liang Peng Haiyong Wu Si Luo | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,2: | 0 |
| 13 | Intrinsic Strengthening of Coherent Twin Boundaries in Copper显示文摘Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were applied to simulate the deformation process of copper with different density of parallel coherent twin boundaries (TBs). It is shown that the strength of perfect copper crystal enhances with increasing coherent TB density. Based on the local hydrostatic pressure analysis, we found that stress concentrations are more likely to form in the interior of the crystal rather than around the TBs.
