2Finite element formulation based on proper orthogonal decomposition for parabolic equations显示文摘A proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method is applied to a usual finite element (FE) formulation for parabolic equations so that it is reduced into a POD FE formulation with lower dimensions and enough high accuracy. The errors between the reduced POD FE solution and the usual FE solution are analyzed. It is shown by numerical examples that the results of numerical computations are consistent with theoretical conclusions. 3Observation of efficient population of the red-emitting state from the green state by non-multiphonon relaxation in the Er31–Yb31 system显示文摘The rare earth Er^(3+) and Yb^(3+) codoped system is the most attractive for showcasing energy transfer upconversion.This system can generate green and red emissions from Er^(3+) under infrared excitation of the sensitizer Yb^(3+).It is well known that the red-emitting state can be populated from the upper green-emitting state.The contribution of multiphonon relaxation to this population is generally considered important at low excitation densities.Here,we demonstrate for the first time the importance of a previously proposed but neglected mechanism described as a cross relaxation energy transfer from Er^(3+) to Yb^(3+),followed by an energy back transfer within the same Er^(3+)–Yb^(3+) pair.A luminescence spectroscopy study of cubic Y_(2)O_(3):Er^(3+),Yb^(3+) indicates that this mechanism can be more efficient than multiphonon relaxation,and it can even make a major contribution to the red upconversion.The study also revealed that the energy transfers involved in this mechanism take place only in the nearest Er^(3+)–Yb^(3+) pairs,and thus,it is fast and efficient at low excitation densities.Our results enable a better understanding of upconversion processes and properties in the Er^(3+)–Yb^(3+) system.Jiahua Zhang Zhendong Hao Jing Li Xia Zhang Yongshi Luo Guohui Pan 2015Light(Science & Applications)2015,4,1:8
4Power electronic transformer with adaptive PLL technique for voltage-disturbance ride through显示文摘The power electronic transformer(PET) has recently emerged as a type of power converter. It features the basic functions of power conversion and isolation as well as additional functions related to power quality control. A novel PET for a distribution grid called a flexible power distribution unit is proposed in this paper, and the energy exchange mechanism between the network and the load is revealed. A 30 kW 600 VAC/220 VAC/110 VDC medium-frequency isolated prototype is developed and demonstrated. This paper also presents key control strategies of the PET for electrical distribution grid applications,especially under grid voltage disturbance conditions.Moreover, stability issues related to the grid-connected three-phase PET are discussed and verified with an impedance-based analysis. The PET prototype is tested, and it passes the voltage-disturbance ride-through function. 5Numerical simulation based on two-directional freeze and thaw algorithm for thermal diffusion model显示文摘Freeze-thaw processes significantly modulate hydraulic and thermal characteristics of soil. The changes in the frost and thaw fronts(FTFs) affect the water and energy cycles between the land surface and the atmosphere. Thus, the frozen soil comprising permafrost and seasonally frozen soil has important effects on the land surface hydrology in cold regions. In this study, a two-directional freeze and thaw algorithm is incorporated into a thermal diffusion equation for simulating FTFs. A local adaptive variable-grid method is used to discretize the model. Sensitivity tests demonstrate that the method is stable and FTFs can be tracked continuously. The FTFs and soil temperature at the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau D66 site are simulated hourly from September 1, 1997 to September 22, 1998. 7A strongly interactive adatom/substrate interface for dendrite-free and high-rate Li metal anodes显示文摘Lithium (Li) metal is considered as one of the most promising anode materials to build next-generation high-energy–density batteries. Nonetheless, dendritic Li deposition has dramatically hindered the practical applications of Li metal batteries (LMBs). Uniformizing Li deposition is a prerequisite to achieve safe and practical LMBs. Herein, an underpotential deposition (UPD) process is first proposed to alter the kinetic and uniformity of Li deposition morphology. Based on the strong interaction between the Li adatoms and manganese (Mn) based substrate, a competition between the UPD and bulk Li deposition is observed, on which the predominance of the UPD scenario tends to uniformize Li nucleation and deposition by the surface coverage of Li monolayers at potentials that are more positive than the Nernst potential of Li metal. 8A New Finite Volume Element Formulation for the Non-Stationary Navier-Stokes Equations显示文摘A semi-discrete scheme about time for the non-stationary Navier-Stokes equations is presented firstly,then a new fully discrete finite volume element(FVE)formulation based on macroelement is directly established from the semi-discrete scheme about time.And the error estimates for the fully discrete FVE solutions are derived by means of the technique of the standard finite element method.It is shown by numerical experiments that the numerical results are consistent with theoretical conclusions.Moreover,it is shown that the FVE method is feasible and efficient for finding the numerical solutions of the non-stationary Navier-Stokes equations and it is one of the most effective numerical methods among the FVE formulation,the finite element formulation,and the finite difference scheme.Zhendong Luo 2014Advances in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics2014,6,5:1

10Prediction of water table depths under soil water-groundwater interaction and stream water conveyance显示文摘Water table over an arid region can be elevated to a critical level to sustain terrestrial ecosystem along the natural channel by the stream water conveyance. Estimation of water table depth and soil moisture on river channel profile may be reduced to a two-dimensional moving boundary problem with soil water-groundwater interaction. The two-dimensional soil water flow with stream water transferred is divided into an unsaturated vertical soil water flow and a horizontal groundwater flow. Therefore, a prediction model scheme for water table depths under the interaction between soil water and groundwater with stream water transferred is presented, which includes a vertical soil water movement model, a horizontal groundwater movement model, and an interface model. The synthetic experiments are conducted to test the sensitivities of the river elevation, horizontal conductivity, and surface flux, and the results from the experiments show the robustness of the proposed scheme under different conditions.
