1Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungal Inoculation Enhances Suppression of Cucumber Fusarium Wilt in Greenhouse Soils显示文摘A pot experiment was conducted to study the plant growth and fruit yields of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) on a greenhouse soil with or without inoculation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMFs) and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cucu- merinum under unsterilized conditions. Two AMF inocula were tested: only one AMF strain Glomus caledonium 90036 and an AMF consortium mainly consisting of Glomus spp. and Acaulospora spp. There were four treatments including no inoculation (control), inoculation with F. oxysporum but without mycorrhizae (FO), inoculation with F. oxysporum and G. caledonium (FO+M1), and inoculation with F. oxysporum and the AMF consortium (FO+M2). Cucumber plants were harvested at weeks 3 and 9 after transplanting. Compared with the control, the FO treatment without AMF inoculation had less biomass both at weeks 3 and 9 (P < 0.05) and had higher incidence of Fusarium wilt and produced no cucumber fruit at week 9. Both FO+M1 and FO+M2 treatments had higher mycorrhizal colonization than the treatments which received no AMF inoculation at week 3 (P < 0.05), but only the FO+M2 treatment elevated plant biomass, decreased the incidence of Fusarium wilt, and improved cucumber yields to the same level as the control at week 9. 3Neuroprotective effect of exogenous vascular endothelial growth factor on rat spinal cord neurons in vitro hypoxia显示文摘Background Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is well known as a hypoxia-induced protein. That it markedly increased expression of VEGF and improvement of rat motor function after spinal cord injury suggested that VEGF could play a neuroprotective role in ischaemic tolerance. This study investigated whether vascular endothelial growth factor has direct neuroprotective effects on rat spinal cord neurons. Methods We employed primary cultures of embryonic rat spinal cord neurons, then administrated different concentrations of VEGF164 in the culture medium before hypoxia when the number of neurons was counted and the cell viability was detected by MTT. The neuronal apoptosis and expression of VEGF and its receptor genes were evaluated by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated dUTP nick-end labelling (TUNEL) and immunohistochemistry. The VEGFR2/FLK-1 inhibitor, SU1498, was used to confirm whether the neuroprotective effect of VEGF was mediated through VEGFR2/Flk-1 receptors. Result In hypoxic conditions,the number and viability of neurons decreased progressively, while the number of TUNEL-positive cells increased along with the prolongation of hypoxic exposure. When the concentration of VEGF in cell culture medium reached 25 ng/ml, the cell viability increased 11% and neuronal apoptosis reduced to half, this effect was dose dependent and led to an approximately 25% increase in cell viability and about threefold decrease in TUNEL-positive cells at a maximally effective concentration of 100 ng/ml. In normal conditions, VEGF/Flk-1 but not VEGF/Flt-1 gene expressed at a low level: after hypoxia, the expression of VEGF/Flk-1, but not VEGF/Flt-1 was significantly increased. The protective effect of VEGF was blocked by the VEGFR2/Flk-1 receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor, SU1498. 4Preoperative assessment of hilar cholangiocarcinoma:combination of cholangiography and CT angiography显示文摘BACKGROUND:Hilar cholangiocarcinoma is one of the most difficult carcinomas to manage because of the location of the main tumor at the hepatic hilus and the complex anatomy of the biliary,arterial,and portal systems.To plan an operation,it is important to acquire accurate information about the relationship between hilar cholangiocarcinoma and adjacent vessels.This study aimed to evaluate the clinical value of cholangiography combined with spiral CT three-dimensional (3D)angiography for a preoperative assessment of hilar cholangiocarcinoma. METHODS:From March 2007 to August 2009,cholangiography was performed in 13 patients with hilar cholangiocarcinoma. Meanwhile,contrast-enhanced abdominal scanning was performed using 16-slice spiral CT,and the 3D images of the hepatic artery and portal vein were acquired.The level and range of invasion of the hepatic artery,the portal vein,and the bile duct,the preoperative Bismuth classification,and T-staging were recorded and compared with those after surgical exploration. RESULTS:The hepatic artery and portal vein were recon- structed successfully in all these patients.Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography was performed in 9 patients,endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in 1,and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography in 3.The CT angiography records of invasion of the hepatic artery were consistent with the results of explorations in these patients. The data from 5 of the 13 patients were consistent with those on invasion of the portal vein.The results of the Bismuth classification and the T-staging system were consistent with those of surgical exploration in 12 of the 13 patients.Seven of 8 patients who were estimated to be suitable for operation based on images were curatively treated and 5 who were judged to be unsuitable for curative operation by cholangiography and CT angiography were confirmed intraoperatively and underwent palliative procedures. 5High-sum-rate beamformers for multi-pair two-way relay networks with amplify-and-forward relaying strategy显示文摘In multi-pair two-way relay networks,the control over inter-pair-interference is a challenging problem.When mobile stations(MSs)cooperate fully,to achieve the sum capacity of networks and at the same time completely remove the inter-pair-interference,a singular value decomposition(SVD)based beamforming scheme at relay station(RS)is established where SVD beamformers are applied over both uplink and downlink channels,respectively.To avoid any cooperation among users,an efcient beamforming scheme is proposed.This scheme uses the Max-SINR based receive beamformer at RS in uplink channel and the Max-SLNR based transmit precoder at RS in downlink channel.It omits interference(uplink)and leakage(donwlink)inside each pair of users due to their abilities of self-interference cancellation.This beamforming scheme provides an analytical solution like some well-known linear beamformers such as zero-forcing,block diagonalization,etc.From simulation,we find:the proposed SVD shows an excellent sum-rate performance at the expense of a large cooperation overhead at MSs and can be used as a tighter upper bound of sum-rate;the proposed scheme of Max-SINR beamformer plus Max-SLNR precoder performs much better on sum-rate than the ZF-based and the BD-based schemes by using almost the same computational amount.SHU Feng LU YaZhe CHEN Yu YOU XiaoHu WANG JianXin WANG Mao SHENG WeiXing CHEN Qian 2014Science China(Information Sciences)2014,57,2:15

10Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. 12Influence of Ce on Characteristics of Inclusions and Microstructure of Pure Iron显示文摘The experiments on adding Ce,Mn and S to molten iron have been carried out by means of the electric furnace,and the concentration of oxygen,the evolution of inclusions and microstructures of samples are analyzed,indicating that the concentration of dissolved oxygen decreases greatly after adding Ce. The calculated thermodynamics results at 1273 K performed on Factsage show that Ce2O2S and CeAlO3 are formed with the increase of Ce content for w(Ce)>0.0002 and w(S)<0.0001,while three cerium sulphides (CeS,Ce3S4 and Ce2S3,in sequence),MnS and Ce2O2S are formed with the increase of S content and the decrease of Ce content for w(Ce)>0.0002 and w(S)>0.0001. These results are consistent with the SEM observations. 13Therapeutic Role of Tangshenkang Granule(糖肾康颗粒) in Rat Model with Diabetic Nephropathy显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the renal protective effect of Tangshenkang Granule(糖肾康颗粒) in a rat model of diabetic nephropathy(DN).Methods: Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into control,DN,Tangshenkang and benazepril groups.DN model was established in the rats of DN,Tangshenkang and benazepril groups.Tangshenkang Granule solution and benazepril hydrochloride solution were intragastrically administered daily to the rats in the Tangshenkang and benazepril groups for 8 weeks,respectively.Urinary albumin and creatinine were detected.The albumin/creatinine(ACR) was calculated in addition to 24 h urinary protein(24-h UPr),serum creatinine(Scr),blood urea nitrogen(BUN),total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),low-density lipoprotein(LDL),high-density lipoprotein(HDL),and creatinine clearance rate(Ccr).Right kidneys were harvested for pathological observation using periodic acid-silver methenamine-Masson staining.The average glomerular diameter(DG),average glomerular(AG) and mesangial areas(AM) were measured.The thickness of glomerular basement membrane(TGBM) was detected using transmission electron microscope.Results: Compared with rats in the control group,rats in the DN group showed significantly decreased body weight,increased hypertrophy index,24-h urinary volume,24-h UPr,ACR,Scr,BUN,Ccr,blood lipids as well as renal pathological indices including DG,AG,AM,AM/AG and TGBM(P<0.05).Compared with the DN group,the weights of rats in the Tangshenkang and benazepril groups were significantly increased,and the renal hypertrophy indices were significantly decreased(P <0.05).The 24-h urinary volumes,ACR,24-h UPr,Scr,BUN,Ccr,LDL,DG,AG,AM and TGBM were obviously decreased(P <0.05).Compared with the benazepril group,the Tangshenkang group showed significantly decreased levels of ACR,24-h UPr,AG and AM(P <0.05).Conclusion: Tangshenkang Granule decreased the urinary protein,attenuated the high glomerular filtration rate and improved lipid metabolism in DN rats,and prevented further injury induced by diabetic nephropathy.HU Shun-jin SHU Bing JIN Hua LI Xiao-feng MAO Jia-rong REN Ke-jun GAO Lei YANG Li WU You-wan WANG Yong-jun 2018Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2018,24,8:6
14Corslet: A shared storage system keeping your data private显示文摘With the exponential growth of digital data, it is becoming more and more popular to store data in shared distributed storage systems inside the same organization. In such shared distributed storage systems, an ordinary user usually does not have the control permission over the whole system, and thus cannot secure data storage or data sharing of his own files. To solve this issue, this paper proposes a new system architecture to secure file storing and sharing efficiently over untrusted shared storage and network environments. Based on this architecture, this paper designs and implements a stackable secure storage system called Corslet. Corslet can run directly on deployed underlying storage systems without modification, while bringing end-to-end confidentiality and integrity as well as efficient access control for user data. For individual users, Corslet is easy to use, and does not require users to maintain or manage any keys on their client machines locally. 16Enhanced recovery after surgery program in the patients undergoing hepatectomy for benign liver lesions显示文摘Background:Enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS)has shown effectiveness in terms of reducing the hospital stay and cost.However,the benefit of ERAS in patients undergoing hepatectomy for benign liver lesions is still unclear.Methods:ERAS was implemented in our center since March 1st,2018.From September 2016 to Febru-ary 2018,109 patients were enrolled into the control group,and from March 2018 to June 2019,124 patients were enrolled into the ERAS group.All the indicators related to operation,liver functions,and postoperative outcomes were included in the analysis.Results:The clinicopathologic baselines were similar in these two groups.A significantly higher propor-tion of patients underwent laparoscopic surgery in the ERAS group.On the whole,intraoperative blood loss(100.00 mL vs.200.00 mL,P<0.001),blood transfusion(3.23%vs.10.09%,P=0.033),total bilirubin(17.10μmol/L vs.21.00μmol/L,P=0.041),D-dimer(2.08μg/mL vs.2.57μg/mL,P=0.031),postoperative hospital stay(5.00 d vs.6.00 d,P<0.001),and postoperative morbidity(16.13%vs.32.11%,P=0.008)were significantly shorter or less in the ERAS group than those in the control group.After stratified by operation methods,ERAS group showed significantly shorter postoperative hospital stay in both open and laparoscopic operation(both P<0.001).In patients underwent open surgery,ERAS group demonstrated significantly shorter operative duration(131.76±8.75 min vs.160.73±7.23 min,P=0.016),less intra-operative blood loss(200.00 mL vs.450.00 mL,P=0.008)and less postoperative morbidity(16.00%vs.44.44%,P=0.040).Conclusions:ERAS program may be safe and effective for the patients underwent hepatectomy,especially open surgery,for benign liver lesions.Jia-Min Zhou Xi-Gan He Miao Wang Yi-Ming Zhao Lian Shu Long-Rong Wang Lu Wang An-Rong Mao 2020Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2020,19,2:5

19Magnolol protects against acute gastrointestinal injury in sepsis by down-regulating regulated on activation,normal T-cell expressed and secreted显示文摘BACKGROUND Sepsis is a major medical challenge.Magnolol is an active constituent of Houpu that improves tissue function and exerts strong anti-endotoxin and anti-inflammatory effects,but the mechanism by which it reduces intestinal inflammation in sepsis is yet unclear.AIM To assess the protective effect of magnolol on intestinal mucosal epithelial cells in sepsis and elucidate the underlying mechanisms.METHODS Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),IL-6,and regulated on activation,normal T-cell expressed and secreted(RANTES)levels in serum and ileal tissue in animal studies.The histopathological changes of the ileal mucosa in different groups were observed under a microscope.Cell Counting Kit-8 and cell permeability assays were used to determine the concentration of drug-containing serum that did not affect the activity of Caco2 cells but inhibited lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced decrease in permeability.Immunofluorescence and Western blot assays were used to detect the levels of RANTES,inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinaseβ(IKKβ),phosphorylated IKKβ(p-IKKβ),inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinaseα(IκBα),p65,and p-p65 proteins in different groups in vitro.RESULTS In rats treated with LPS by intravenous tail injection in the presence or absence of magnolol,magnolol inhibited the expression of proinflammatory cytokines,IL-1β,IL-6,and TNF-αin a dose-dependent manner.In addition,magnolol suppressed the production of RANTES in LPS-stimulated sepsis rats.Moreover,in vitro studies suggested that magnolol inhibited the increase of p65 nucleation,thereby markedly downregulating the production of the phosphorylated form of IKKβin LPS-treated Caco2 cells.Specifically,magnolol inhibited the translocation of the transcription factor nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB)from the cytosol into the nucleus and down-regulated the expression level of the chemokine RANTES in LPS-stimulated Caco2 cells.CONCLUSION Magnolol down-regulates RANTES levels by inhibiting the LPS/NF-κB signaling pathways,thereby suppressing IL-1β,IL-6,and TNF-αexpression to alleviate the mucosal barrier dysfunction in sepsis.Shi-Hao Mao Dan-Dan Feng Xi Wang Yi-Hui Zhi Shu Lei Xi Xing Rong-Lin Jiang Jian-Nong Wu 2021World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,34:5
20Abrogation of Hn RNP L enhances anti-PD-1 therapy efficacy via diminishing PD-L1 and promoting CD8^(+) T cell-mediated ferroptosis in castration-resistant prostate cancer显示文摘Owing to incurable castration-resistant prostate cancer(CRPC)ultimately developing after treating with androgen deprivation therapy(ADT),it is vital to devise new therapeutic strategies to treat CRPC.Treatments that target programmed cell death protein 1(PD-1)and programmed death ligand-1(PD-L1)have been approved for human cancers with clinical benefit.However,many patients,especially prostate cancer,fail to respond to anti-PD-1/PD-L1 treatment,so it is an urgent need to seek a support strategy for improving the traditional PD-1/PD-L1 targeting immunotherapy.In the present study,analyzing the data from our prostate cancer tissue microarray,we found that PD-L1 expression was positively correlated with the expression of heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein L(Hn RNP L).Hence,we further investigated the potential role of Hn RNP L on the PD-L1 expression,the sensitivity of cancer cells to T-cell killing and the synergistic effect with anti-PD-1 therapy in CRPC.Indeed,Hn RNP L knockdown effectively decreased PD-L1 expression and recovered the sensitivity of cancer cells to T-cell killing in vitro and in vivo,on the contrary,Hn RNP L overexpression led to the opposite effect in CRPC cells.In addition,consistent with the previous study,we revealed that ferroptosis played a critical role in T-cell-induced cancer cell death,and Hn RNP L promoted the cancer immune escape partly through targeting YY1/PD-L1 axis and inhibiting ferroptosis in CRPC cells.Furthermore,Hn RNP L knockdown enhanced antitumor immunity by recruiting infiltrating CD8^(+)T cells and synergized with anti-PD-1 therapy in CRPC tumors.This study provided biological evidence that Hn RNP L knockdown might be a novel therapeutic agent in PD-L1/PD-1 blockade strategy that enhanced anti-tumor immune response in CRPC.Xumin Zhou Libin Zou Hangyu Liao Junqi Luo Taowei Yang Jun Wu Wenbin Chen Kaihui Wu Shengren Cen Daojun Lv Fangpeng Shu Yu Yang Chun Li Bingkun Li Xiangming Mao 2022Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,2:4
