| 1 | Wnt/b-catenin signaling plays an ever-expanding role in stem cell self-renewal,tumorigenesis and cancer chemoresistance显示文摘Wnt signaling transduces evolutionarily conserved pathways which play important roles in initiating and regulating a diverse range of cellular activities,including cell proliferation,calcium homeostasis,and cell polarity.The role of Wnt signaling in controlling cell proliferation and stem cell self-renewal is primarily carried out through the canonical pathway,which is the best-characterized the multiple Wnt signaling branches.The past 10 years has seen a rapid expansion in our understanding of the complexity of this pathway,as many new components of Wnt signaling have been identified and linked to signaling regulation,stem cell functions,and adult tissue homeostasis.Additionally,a substantial body of evidence links Wnt signaling to tumorigenesis of cancer types and implicates it in the development of cancer drug resistance.Thus,a better understanding of the mechanisms by which dysregulation of Wnt signaling precedes the development and progression of human cancer may hasten the development of pathway inhibitors to augment current therapy.This review summarizes and synthesizes our current knowledge of the canonical Wnt pathway in development and disease.We begin with an overview of the components of the canonical Wnt signaling pathway and delve into the role this pathway has been shown to play in stemness,tumorigenesis,and cancer drug resistance.Ultimately,we hope to present an organized collection of evidence implicating Wnt signaling in tumorigenesis and chemoresistance to facilitate the pursuit of Wnt pathway modulators that may improve outcomes of cancers in which Wnt signaling contributes to aggressive disease and/or treatment resistance. | Maryam K.Mohammed Connie Shao Jing Wang Qiang Wei Xin Wang Zachary Collier Shengli Tang Hao Liu Fugui Zhang Jiayi Huang Dan Guo Minpeng Lu Feng Liu Jianxiang Liu Chao Ma Lewis L.Shi Aravind Athiviraham Tong-Chuan He Michael J.Lee | 2016 | Genes & Diseases2016,3,1: | 70 |

| 4 | Spatial-temporal analysis of pulmonary tuberculosis in the northeast of the Yunnan province,People’s Republic of China显示文摘Background:The number of pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB)cases in China ranks third in the world.A continuous increase in cases has recently been recorded in Zhaotong prefecture-level city,which is located in the northeastern part of Yunnan province.This study explored the space-time dynamics of PTB cases in Zhaotong to provide useful information that will help guide policymakers to formulate effective regional prevention and control strategies.Methods:The data on PTB cases were extracted from the nationwide tuberculosis online registration system.Time series and spatial cluster analyses were applied to detect PTB temporal trends and spatial patterns at the town level between 2011 and 2015 in Zhaotong.Three indicators of PTB treatment registration history were used:initial treatment registration rate,re-treatment registration rate,and total PTB registration rate.Results:Seasonal trends were detected with an apparent symptom onset peak during the winter season and a registration peak during the spring season.A most likely cluster and six secondary clusters were identified for the total PTB registration rate,one most likely cluster and five secondary clusters for the initial treatment registration rate,and one most likely cluster for the re-treatment registration rate.The most likely cluster of the three indicators had a similar spatial distribution and size in Zhenxiong County,which is characterised by a poor socio-economic level and the largest population in Yunnan.Conclusion:This study identified temporal and spatial distribution of PTB in a high PTB burden area using existing health data.The results of the study provide useful information on the prevailing epidemiological situation of PTB in Zhaotong and could be used to develop strategies for more effective PTB control at the town level.The cluster that overlapped the three PTB indicators falls within the geographic areas where PTB control efforts should be prioritised. | Li Huang Xin-Xu Li Eniola Michael Abe Lin Xu Yao Ruan Chun-Li Cao Shi-Zhu Li | 2017 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2017,6,1: | 13 |
| 5 | Soil respiration is driven by fine root biomass along a forest chronosequence in subtropical China显示文摘Aims Soil respiration(Rs)is a major process controlling soil carbon loss in forest ecosystems.However,the underlying mechanisms leading to variation in Rs along forest successional gradients are not well understood.In this study,we investigated the effects of biotic and abiotic factors on Rs along a forest successional gradient in southeast China.Methods We selected 16 plots stratified by forest age,ranging from 20 to 120 years.In each plot,six shallow collars and six deep collars were permanently inserted into the soil.Shallow and deep collars were used to measure Rs and heterotrophic respiration(Rh),respectively.Autotrophic soil respiration(Ra)was estimated as the difference between Rs and Rh.Litter layer respiration(R_(L))was calculated by subtracting soil respiration measured in collars without leaf litter layer(R_(NL))from Rs.Rs was measured every 2 months,and soil temperature(ST)and soil volumetric water content(SVWC)were recorded every hour for 19 months.We calculated daily Rs using an exponential model dependent on ST.Daily Rs was summed to obtain cumulative annual Rs estimates.Structural equation modelling(SEM)was applied to identify the drivers of Rs during forest succession.Important Findings Rs showed significant differences among three successive stages,and it was the highest in the young stage.Ra was higher in the young stage than in the medium stage.Cumulative annual Rs and Ra peaked in the young and old stages,respectively.Cumulative annual Rh and respiration measured from soil organic matter(R_(SOM))decreased,whereas R_(L)increased with forest age.The SEM revealed that cumulative annual Rs was influenced by fine root biomass and SVWC.Our results indicated that the dominant force regulating Rs on a seasonal scale is ST;however,on a successional scale,belowground carbon emerges as the dominant influential factor. | Chao Wang Yinlei Ma Stefan Trogisch Yuanyuan Huang Yan Geng Michael Scherer-Lorenzen Jin-Sheng He | 2017 | Journal of Plant Ecology2017,10,1: | 13 |
| 6 | Hepatitis B virus reactivation and hepatitis in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma patients with resolved hepatitis B receiving rituximab-containing chemotherapy:risk factors and survival显示文摘Introduction:Hepatitis B virus(HBV) reactivation has been reported in B-cell lymphoma patients with resolved hepatitis B(hepatitis B surface antigen[HBsAg]-negative and hepatitis B core antibody[HBcAb]-positive).This study aimed to assess HBV reaaivation and hepatitis occurrence in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBCL) patients with resolved hepatitis B receiving rituximab-containing chemotherapy compared with HBsAg-negative/HBcAb-negative patients to identify risk factors for HBV reaaivation and hepatitis occurrence and to analyze whether HBV reaaivation and hepatitis affect the survival of DLBCL patients with resolved hepatitis B.Methods:We reviewed the clinical data of 278 patients with DLBCL treated with rituximab-containing therapy between January 2004 and May 2008 at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center,China.Prediaive faaors for HBV reaaivation,hepatitis development,and survival were examined by univariate analysis using the chi-square or Fisher's exact test and by multivariate analysis using the Cox regression model.Results:Among the 278 patients,165 were HBsAg-negative.Among these 165 patients,6(10.9%) of 55 HBcAb-positive(resolved HBV infeaion) patients experienced HBV reactivation compared with none(0%) of 110 HBcAb-negative patients(P=0.001).Patients with resolved hepatitis B had a higher hepatitis occurrence rate than HBsAg-negative/HBcAb-negative patients(21.8%vs.8.2%,P = 0.013).HBcAb positivity and elevated baseline alanine aminotransferase(ALT) levels were independent risk factors for hepatitis.Among the 55 patients with resolved hepatitis B,patients with elevated baseline serum ALT or aspartate aminotransferase(AST) levels were more likely to develop hepatitis than those with normal serum ALT or AST levels(P = 0.037,P = 0.005,respeaively).An elevated baseline AST level was an independent risk factor for hepatitis in these patients.Six patients with HBV reactivation recovered after immediate antiviral therapy,and chemotherapy was continued.HBcAb positivity,HBV reactivation,or hepatitis did not negatively affect the survival of DLBCL patients.Conclusions:DLBCL patients with resolved hepatitis B may have a higher risk of developing HBV reaaivation and hepatitis than HBsAg-negative/HBcAb-negative patients.Close monitoring and prompt antiviral therapy are required in these patients. | Kai-Lin Chen Jie Chen Hui-Lan Rao Ying Guo Hui-Qiang Huang Liang Zhang Jian-Yong Shao Tong-Yu Lin Wen-Qi Jiang De-Hui Zou Li-Yang Hu Michael Lucas Wirian Qing-Qing Cai | 2015 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2015,34,5: | 11 |

| 9 | Platelet-rich plasma for regeneration of neural feedback pathways around dental implants: a concise review and outlook on future possibilities显示文摘Along with the development of new materials, advanced medical imaging and surgical techniques, osseointegrated dental implants are considered a successful and constantly evolving treatment modality for the replacement of missing teeth in patients with complete or partial edentulism. The importance of restoring the peripheral neural feedback pathway and thus repairing the lack of periodontal mechanoreceptors after tooth extraction has been highlighted in the literature. Nevertheless, regenerating the nerve fibers and reconstructing the neural feedback pathways around osseointegrated implants remain a challenge. Recent studies have provided evidence that platelet-rich plasma(PRP) therapy is a promising treatment for musculoskeletal injuries.Because of its high biological safety, convenience and usability, PRP therapy has gradually gained popularity in the clinical field.Although much remains to be learned, the growth factors from PRP might play key roles in peripheral nerve repair mechanisms.This review presents known growth factors contributing to the biological efficacy of PRP and illustrates basic and(pre-)clinical evidence regarding the use of PRP and its relevant products in peripheral nerve regeneration. | 15 | Factors affecting genomic selection revealed by empirical evidence in maize显示文摘Genomic selection(GS) as a promising molecular breeding strategy has been widely implemented and evaluated for plant breeding, because it has remarkable superiority in enhancing genetic gain, reducing breeding time and expenditure, and accelerating the breeding process. In this study the factors affecting prediction accuracy(rMG) in GS were evaluated systematically, using six agronomic traits(plant height, ear height, ear length, ear diameter,grain yield per plant and hundred-kernel weight) evaluated in one natural and two biparental populations. The factors examined included marker density, population size, heritability,statistical model, population relationships and the ratio of population size between the training and testing sets, the last being revealed by resampling individuals in different proportions from a population. Prediction accuracy continuously increased as marker density and population size increased and was positively correlated with heritability; rMGshowed a slight gain when the training set increased to three times as large as the testing set. Low predictive performance between unrelated populations could be attributed to different allele frequencies, and predictive ability and prediction accuracy could be improved by including more related lines in the training population. Among the seven statistical models examined, including ridge regression best linear unbiased prediction(RR-BLUP), genomic BLUP(GBLUP), Bayes A, Bayes B, Bayes C, Bayesian least absolute shrinkage and selection operator(Bayesian LASSO), and reproducing kernel Hilbert space(RKHS), the RKHS and additive-dominance model(Add + Dom model) showed credible ability for capturing non-additive effects, particularly for complex traits with low heritability. | 20 | Space-time clustering and associated risk factors of pulmonary tuberculosis in southwest China显示文摘Background:Pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB,both smear positive and smear negative)is an airborne infectious disease of major public health concern in China and other parts of the world where PTB endemicity is reported.This study aims at identifying PTB spatio-temporal clusters and associated risk factors in Zhaotong prefecture-level city,located in southwest China,where the PTB notification rate was higher than the average rate in the entire country.Methods:Space-time scan statistics were carried out using PTB registered data in the nationwide TB online registration system from 2011 to 2015,to identify spatial clusters.PTB patients diagnosed between October 2015 and February 2016 were selected and a structured questionnaire was administered to collect a set of variables that includes socio-economic status,behavioural characteristics,local environmental and biological characteristics.Based on the discovery of detailed town-level spatio-temporal PTB clusters,we divided selected subjects into two groups including the cases that resides within and outside identified clusters.Then,logistic regression analysis was applied comparing the results of variables between the two groups.Results:A total of 1508 subjects consented and participated in the survey.Clusters for PTB cases were identified in 38 towns distributed over south-western Zhaotong.Logistic regression analysis showed that history of chronic bronchitis(OR=3.683,95%CI:2.180-6.223),living in an urban area(OR=5.876,95%CI:2.381-14.502)and using coal as the main fuel(OR=9.356,95%CI:5.620-15.576)were independently associated with clustering.While,not smoking(OR=0.340,95%CI:0.137-0.843)is the protection factor of spatial clustering.Conclusions:We found PTB specially clustered in south-western Zhaotong.The strong associated factors influencing the PTB spatial cluster including:the history of chronic bronchitis,living in the urban area,smoking and the use of coal as the main fuel for cooking and heating.Therefore,efforts should be made to curtail these associated factors. | Li Huang Eniola Michael Abe Xin-Xu Li Robert Bergquist Lin Xu Jing-Bo Xue Yao Ruan Chun-Li Cao Shi-Zhu Li | 2018 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2018,7,1: | 6 |
