Sulfur speciation and bioaccumulation in camphor tree leaves as atmospheric sulfur indicator analyzed by synchrotron radiation XRF and XANES显示文摘Analyzing and understanding the effects of ambient pollution on plants is getting more and more attention as a topic of environmental biology.A method based on synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence and X-ray absorption near edge structure spectroscopy was established to analyze the sulfur concentration and speciation in mature camphor tree leaves (CTLs),which were sampled from 5 local fields in Shanghai,China.Annual SO2 concentration,SO42-concentration in atmospheric particulate,SO42-and sulfur concentration in soil were also analyzed to explore the relationship between ambient sulfur sources and the sulfur nutrient cycling in CTLs.Total sulfur concentration in mature camphor tree leaves was 766-1704 mg/kg.The mainly detected sulfur states and their corresponding compounds were +6 (sulfate, include inorganic sulfate and organic sulfate),+5.2 (sulfonate),+2.2 (suloxides),+0.6 (thiols and thiothers),+0.2 (organic sulfides).Total sulfur concentration was strongly correlated with sulfate proportion with a linear correlation coefficient up to 0.977,which suggested that sulfur accumulated in CTLs as sulfate form.Reduced sulfur compounds (organic sulfides, thiols, thioethers, sulfoxide and sulfonate) assimilation was sufficed to meet the nutrient requirement for growth at a balanced level around 526 mg/kg.The sulfate accumulation mainly caused by atmospheric sulfur pollution such as SO2 and airborne sulfate particulate instead of soil contamination. From urban to suburb place, sulfate in mature CTLs decreased as the atmospheric sulfur pollution reduced, but a dramatic increase presented near the seashore, where the marine sulfate emission and maritime activity pollution were significant. The sulfur concentration and speciation in mature CTLs effectively represented the long-term biological accumulation of atmospheric sulfur pollution in local environment. | Jianrong Zeng Guilin Zhang Liangman Bao Shilei Long Mingguang Tan Yan Li Chenyan Ma Yidong Zhao | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,3: | 9
Safety and survival outcomes of transanal natural orifice specimen extraction using prolapsing technique for patients with middle-to low-rectal cancer显示文摘Objective:The transanal approach to specimen collection, combined with the prolapsing technique,is a wellestablished and minimally invasive surgery for treating rectal cancer. However, reports on outcomes for this approach are sparse. We compared short-and long-term outcomes of conventional laparoscopic surgery(CLS)vs.transanal natural orifice specimen extraction(NOSE)using the prolapsing technique for patients with middle-to low-rectal cancer. Methods:From January 2013 to December 2017,we enrolled consecutive patients with middle-to low-rectal cancer undergoing laparoscopic anterior resection.Totally,50 patients who underwent transanal NOSE using the prolapsing technique were matched with 50 patients who received CLS.Clinical parameters and survival outcomes between the two groups were compared. Results:Estimated blood loss(29.70±29.28 vs.52.80±45.09 mL,P=0.003),time to first flatus(2.50±0.79 vs.2.86±0.76,P=0.022),time to liquid diet(3.62±0.64 vs.4.20±0.76 d,P<0.001),and the need for analgesics(22%vs.48%,P=0.006)were significantly lower for the NOSE group compared to the CLS group. The incidences of overall complications and fecal incontinence were comparable in both groups. After a median follow-up of 44.52 months, the overall local recurrence rate(6%vs.5%,P=0.670),3-year disease-free survival(86.7%vs.88.0%,P=0.945)and 3-year overall survival(95.6%vs.96.0%,P=0.708),were not significantly different. Conclusions:For total laparoscopic rectal resection, transanal NOSE using the prolapsing technique is effective and safe, and associated with less trauma and pain,a faster recovery, and similar survival outcomes compared to CLS. | Zhao Lu Haipeng Chen Mingguang Zhang Xu Guan Zhixun Zhao Zheng Jiang Zheng Liu Zhaoxu Zheng Xishan Wang | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2020,32,5: | 6
2020 Roadmap on two-dimensional nanomaterials for environmental catalysis显示文摘Environmental catalysis has drawn a great deal ofattention due to its clean ways to produce useful chemicals or carry out some chemical processes.Photocatalysis and electrocatalysis play important roles in these fields. They can decompose and remove organic pollutants from the aqueous environment, and prepare some fine chemicals. Moreover, they also can carry out some important reactions, such as 02 reduction reaction(ORR),O2 evolution reaction(OER),H2 evolution reaction(HER),CO2 reduction reaction(C02 RR),and N2 fixation(NRR).For catalytic reactions,it is the key to develop high-performance catalysts to meet the demand fortargeted reactions. In recentyears,two-dimensional(2 D) materials have attracted great interest in environmental catalysis due to their unique layered structures, which offer us to make use of their electronic and structural characteristics.Great progress has been made so far, including graphene, black phosphorus, oxides, layered double hydroxides(LDHs),chalcogenides,bismuth-based layered compounds,MXenes, metal organic frameworks(MOFs),covalent organic frameworks(COFs),and others. This content drives us to invite many famous groups in these fields to write the roadmap on two-dimensional nanomaterials for environmental catalysis. We hope that this roadmap can give the useful guidance to researchers in future researches, and provide the research directions. | Yulu Yang Mingguang Wu Xingwang Zhu Hui Xu Si Ma Yongfeng Zhi Hong Xia Xiaoming Liu Jun Pan Jie-Yinn Tang Siang-Piao Chai Leonardo Palmisano Francesco Parrino Junli Liu Jianzhong Ma Ze-Lin Wang Ling Tan Yu-Fei Zhao Yu-Fei Song Pardeep Singh Pankaj Raizada Deli Jiang Di Li R.A.Geioushy Jizhen Ma Jintao Zhang Song Hu Rongjuan Feng Gang Liu Minghua Liu Zhenhua Li Mingfei Shao Neng Li Jiahe Peng Wee-Jun Ong Nikolay Kornienko Zhenyu Xing Xiujun Fan Jianmin Ma | 2019 | Chinese Chemical Letters2019,30,12: | 2
Angioarchitecture and CD133^+ tumor stem cell distribution in intracranial hemangiopericytoma A comparative study with meningioma显示文摘Angioarchitecture plays an important role in the malignant development of intracranial hemangioperi-cytoma. It remains poorly understood whether high frequency of hemorrhage during clinical surgery for intracranial hemangiopericytoma is associated with angioarchitecture. The present study utilized he-matoxylin-eosin staining, and immunohistochemical staining with epithelial membrane antigen, vimentin, CD34, von Willebrand factor (vWF) and CD133 to observe characteristics of angioarchitec-ture. In addition, silver stains were used to demonstrate changes in reticular fibers in the wall of vessel channels in intracranial hemangiopericytoma and meningioma. Five patterns of angioarchitecture were identified in intracranial hemangiopericytoma, namely tumor cell islands, vasculogenic mimicry, mosaic blood vessels, sprouting angiogenesis, and intussusceptive angiogenesis. Several CD133+ tumor cells were found to form tumor cell islands. A connection between vWF + and vWF- channels was detected in the pattern of intussusceptive angiogenesis, and some vimentin+ tumor cells were embedded in the periodic acid-Schiff positive channel wall. Incomplete threads of reticular fibers formed the walls of larger pseudo-vascular channels and some tumor clumps or scattered tumor cells were detected 'floating' in them. The angioarchitecture, specific markers and reticular fibers of intracranial hemangiopericytoma were significantly different from meningioma. Angioarchitecture provides a functional vascular network for vascular evolution in intracranial hemangiopericytoma and contributes to significant intra-operative bleeding. | Zhongguo Zhang Mingguang Zhao Zaihua Xu Zhenquan Song | 2011 | Neural Regeneration Research2011,6,34: | 2

Diethyl phenylphosphonite contributing to solid electrolyte interphase and cathode electrolyte interphase for lithium metal batteries显示文摘Lithium metal batteries have obtained increasing interest due to their high specific capacity.Nonetheless, the growth of lithium dendrites brings safety risks to batteries and further deteriorates the performance.Herein,we explore diethyl phenylphosphonite(DEPP) as the electrolyte additive to alleviate this problem.DEPP can be preferentially decomposed than carbonate solvents to form the stable interface between electrolyte and lithium anode for inhibiting the dendrite growth. As expected, the symmetrical LiIILi cells could achieve a stable cycling performance with 200 h at 1 mA cm^(-2).Moreover,DEPP can be preferentially oxidized on the surface of lithium cobalt oxides(LiCoO_(2)) to form a dense cathode electrolyte interphase(CEI) film for suppressing the continuous oxidative decomposition of the electrolyte and eliminating the adverse effects of HF on the battery. This endows LiCoO_(2) IILi full battery with the enhanced cycling and rate performance. | Chunxia Miao Shihan Qi Kang Liang Yanli Qi Junda Huang Mingguang Wu Hongshun Zhao Jiandong Liu Yurong Ren Jianmin Ma | 2021 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,12: | 1

Effects of gentamicin on choline acetyltransferase expression in paraolivary nucleus neurons of guinea pigs显示文摘BACKGROUND:It is generally accepted that gentamicin can damage the cochlear nerve and acoustic nerve. In recent years, scholars have focused on neuronal changes and neurochemical information in the brainstem primary auditory center. OBJECTIVE: To explore morphological changes of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT)-positive neurons in the paraolivary nucleus (PON) of guinea pigs, and the effect on hearing following gentamicin injection. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING: Randomized grouping and morphological observational study was performed at Animal Experimental Center of General Hospital of Shenyang Military Area Command of Chinese PLA from January to August 2007. MATERIALS: A total of 48 healthy guinea pigs were randomly divided into model (n=40) and control (n= 8) groups. The model group was divided into five subgroups at five time points of 1 and 3 days,1,2,and 3 weeks. METHODS: Guinea pigs in the model group were intraperitoneally injected with gentamicin, and those in the control group were intraperitoneally injected with the same volume of saline. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Auditory brainstem-evoked potential was used to record auditory threshold; distribution and morphological changes of ChAT-positive neurons in the PON were observed with immunohistochemistry; section area and gray value of ChAT-positive neurons were measured with Quantimet 570 image-analyzing system. RESULTS: ChAT-positive neurons were diffusedly distributed in the PON. The majority was composed of large, round cells, with positive neurites that could be clearly observed. Following gentamicin injection, the positive neurons displayed an irregular outline, and their neurites began to shorten and disappear. The gray value increased with prolonged gentamicin administration (P<0.05). In addition, the somatic cross-sectional area was enlarged in the model group at 1 and 3 days after injection (P<0.05),whereas cell number significantly decreased at three weeks after injection (P<0.05). Starting at 3-4 days, behavioral features and auditory degrees became gradually aggravated with prolonged gentamicin administration (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Gentamicin damaged ChAT-positive neurons in the PON,and long-term gentamicin treatment aggravated hearing impairment. | Mingguang Zhao Xiaochen Wang Yong Liang Peng Xie Xuejun Guo Jinjiang Li WeiWang | 2008 | Neural Regeneration Research2008,3,11: | 0
High transcriptome plasticity drives phosphate starvation responses in tomato显示文摘Tomato is an important vegetable crop and fluctuating available soil phosphate(Pi)level elicits several morpho-physiological responses driven by underlying molecular responses. Therefore, understanding these molecular responses at the gene and isoform levels has become critical in the quest for developing crops with improved Pi use efficiency.A quantitative time-series RNA-seq analysis was performed to decipher the global transcriptomic changes that accompany Pi starvation in tomato.Apart from changes in the expression levels of genes, there were also alterations in the expression of alternatively-spliced transcripts.Physiological responses such as anthocyanin accumulation, reactive oxygen species generation and cell death are obvious 7 days after Pi deprivation accompanied with the maximum amount of transcriptional change in the genome making it an important stage for in-depth study while studying Pi stress responses(PSR).Our study demonstrates that transcriptomic changes under Pi deficiency are dynamic and complex in tomato.Overall, our study dwells on the dynamism of the transcriptome in eliciting a response to adapt to low Pi stress and lays it bare.Findings from this study will prove to be an invaluable resource for researchers using tomato as a model for understanding nutrient deficiency. | Viswanathan Satheesh Jieqiong Zhang Jinkai Li Qiuye You Panfeng Zhao Peng Wang Mingguang Lei | 2022 | Stress Biology2022,2,1: | 0
Longitudinal Relationship between Axial Length and Height in Chinese Children:Guangzhou Twin Eye Study显示文摘Purpose:.To understand the growth model of axial length(AL) and height, and to explore the relationship between the two with the passage of time.Methods:.We followed twins in the Guangzhou Twin Eye Study for five years..The AL of both eyes was measured by partial coherence interferometry, and height was measured by a standard scale during each visit..A multivariate multilevel mixed model was adopted for data analysis.Results:.A total of 1217 children were included in the study. Both AL and height increased, but the rate of growth slowed down with age..The mitigation rate of height growth was-0.34 cm / year;.while that of AL growth was-0.01 mm / year.AL was positively related to height,.with a relevant coefficient of R=0.22(Cov [height intercept, AL intercept] =1.56, 95%CI=1.14 to 1.99). The growth rates of AL and height were also positively related, with a relevant coefficient of R =0.18(Cov [height slope, AL slope] =0.03, 95%CI=0.01 to 0.05).However, taller children had slower rates of height increases, with a relevant coefficient of R=-0.12(Cov[height intercept, height slope]=-1.33,95%CI=-2.25 to-0.42); but had faster AL growth,.with a relevant coefficient of R =(Cov [height intercept, AL slope] =0.02, 95%CI=-0.05 to 0.08, R=0.02).AL and its growth rate were positively related to each other, with a relevant coefficient of R=(Cov [AL intercept,.AL slope]=0.04, 95%CI=0.03 to 0.05, R=0.3); while the growth rates of AL and height were negatively related to each other, with a relevant coefficient of R=(Cov [AL intercept, height slope]=--0.03 95%CI=-0.16 to 0.1, R=-0.02).Conclusion:.The increase in children's AL is relevant to their height increases..The faster their height increases,.the faster their AL increases. | Decai Wang Chen Zhao Shengsong Huang Wenyong Huang Mingguang He | 2015 | Eye Science2015,30,1: | 0
Expression of angiogenic factors in cerebral arteriovenous malformations显示文摘BACKGROUND: In the process of vascularization, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), angiopoietin-2 and Tie2 are involved in the migration, differentiation and proliferation of vascular endothelial cells, and stimulate the rapid angiogenesis; Tie1 and angiopoietin-1 play important roles in facilitating the formation of vascular lumen and maintaining the integrity of vascular wall. Thus the distributions and expressions may be associated with the occurrence of cerebral arteriovenous malformation. OBJECTIVE: To observe the biological effects of angiogenic factors in the occurrence and development of cerebral arteriovenous malformation. DESIGN: An observational comparative experiment. SETTINGS: Department of Neurosurgery, General Hospital of Shenyang Military Area Command of Chinese PLA; Department of Neurosurgery, General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University. PARTICIPANTS: Fresh samples of complete cerebral arteriovenous malformations resected in 47 patients were collected from the Department of Neurosurgery, General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University from August 1999 to May 2001, including 22 males and 25 females, the mean age was 34.5 years. Informed consents were obtained from all the patients or their relatives. The initial symptom was hemorrhage in 28 cases. All the patients were classified according to the clinical imaging data and Spetzler-Martin grading standard, including 11 cases of gradeⅠ, 17 cases of grade Ⅱ, 11 cases of grade Ⅲ, and 8 cases of grade Ⅳ–Ⅴ. Normal brain tissues resected by decompression due to trauma were taken from 8 patients as controls, including 5 males and 3 females, aging 12–65 years. METHODS: ① The expressions of VEGF, Tie receptors, angiopoietin-1, angiopoietin-2, proto-oncogene c-myc and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) in the samples of cerebral arteriovenous malformation were detected with immunohistochemical method. Under light microscope, the positively stained rat-anti-human factor VIII-related antigens (specific marker of vascular endothelial cells) were counted, then the immuno-positive cells of the other antibodies in the visual field of neighboring section which was in 'mirror' relation were counted, and the percentage of the latter to the former was considered as the labeling index of positive cells. The immunostaining intensity was classified negative (–): no positive cells; positive (+): number of positive cells < 20%; moderately positive (++): number of positive cells 20%–50%; strongly positive (+++): number of positive cells > 50%. ② The differences of the enumeration data were compared with chi-square test, and the correlation were analyzed with the linear correlation analysis. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Expressions and distributions of VEGF, Tie1 and Tie2 receptors, angiopoietin-1, angiopoietin-2, PCNA and c-myc in the samples of cerebral arteriovenous malformation and normal brain tissue. RESULTS: ① Expressions of angiogenic factors in the control group and cerebral arteriovenous malformation groups of each grade: The positive rates of VEGF, Tie2, angiopoietin-2, c-myc and PCNA expressions in the control group were significantly different from those in the cerebral arteriovenous malformation groups of each grade (χ2=21.09–34.23, P < 0.05), whereas the positive rates of Tie1 and angiopoietin-1 expressions were close (χ2=3.43–3.869, P > 0.05). ② Expressions of angiogenic factors in hemorrhage group and non-hemorrhage group: The expressions of VEGF, angiopoietin-2 and PCNA in the hemorrhage group were significantly lower than those in the non-hemorrhage group (χ2=16.22–26.56, P < 0.05). There ware no obvious differences in the expressions of Tie1 and angiopoietin-1 expressions between the hemorrhage group and non-hemorrhage group (χ2=3.22–3.78, P > 0.05).The VEGF was positively correlated with the expressions of c-myc and PCNA (r = 0.728, 0.916, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: ① The expressions of angiogenic factors and related receptors may be involved in the process of cerebral arteriovenous malformation, and had important correlation the its clinical grading. ② Angiogenic factors may induce the expression of endothelial cell c-myc in cerebral arteriovenous malformation, and then interfere the cell proliferation and apoptosis. | Mingguang Zhao Youli Chen Zhenquan Song Yongzhong Gao Peiyu Pu Xuezhong Wei | 2007 | Neural Regeneration Research2007,2,3: | 0
