| 1 | Three dimensional velocity structure and accurate earthquake location in Changning–Gongxian area of southeast Sichuan显示文摘In order to understand the crustal structure and tectonic background of the Changning–Gongxiang area, southeastern Sichuan Province, where a series of moderate-to-strong earthquakes occurred in recent years, we utilized the seismic phase data both from a local dense array and from the regional seismic networks;we used the tomoDD program to invert for the high-resolution three-dimensional velocity structure within the depth range of 0–10 km and for accurate hypocentral locations in this area. We analyzed the seismogenic structures for the events of Xingwen M5.7 in 2018 and Gongxian M5.3 and Changning M6.0 in 2019. The results show that:(1) widespread lateral inhomogeneity exists in the velocity structure of the study area, and the location of the velocity anomaly is largely consistent with known structures. In the range of distinguishable depth, the inhomogeneity decreases with increasing depth, and the velocity structure anomalies in some areas are continuous in depth;(2) earthquakes occurred in clusters, showing the characteristics of zonal folding trends in the NW-SE and NE-SW directions;the focal depth in the area is generally shallow in both the sedimentary cap and the crystalline basement. The seismogenic structures of small earthquake clusters are different in size and occurrence in different sections, and the clusters occurred mostly in regions with high P-or S-wave velocities;(3) synthesis of a variety of data suggests that the seismogenic structures of the Xingwen M5.7 and Changning M6.0 earthquakes are associated with slip faults that trend NW-SE in, respectively, the south wing and the axis of the Changning–Shuanghe anticline, while that of the Gongxian M5.3 earthquake is associated with thrust faults that trend N-S in the Jianwu syncline region. | 2 | Hydrogen sulfide, a signaling molecule in plant stress responses显示文摘Gaseous molecules, such as hydrogen sulfide(H_2S)and nitric oxide(NO), are crucial players in cellular and(patho)physiological processes in biological systems. The biological functions of these gaseous molecules, which were first discovered and identified as gasotransmitters in animals, have received unprecedented attention from plant scientists in recent decades. Researchers have arrived at the consensus that H_2S is synthesized endogenously and serves as a signaling molecule throughout the plant life cycle.However, the mechanisms of H_2S action in redox biology is still largely unexplored. This review highlights what we currently know about the characteristics and biosynthesis of H_2S in plants. Additionally,we summarize the role of H_2S in plant resistance to abiotic stress. | 3 | Co-Seismic Surface Rupture and Recurrence Interval of Large Earthquakes along Damaoyaba-Litang Segment of the Litang Fault on the Eastern Margin of the Tibetan Plateau in China显示文摘The Litang fault is a left-lateral secondary shear zone in the Sichuan-Yunnan active block that accommodates the tectonic deformation associated with the eastward extrusion of the upper crust of the Tibetan Plateau. Based on 1 : 50 000 geological mapping of active faults, the Litang fault consists of three geometric segments, the Cuopuhu, Damaoyaba, and Litang segments, in the west of Litang, which are divided by the of Haizi Mountain uplift and the wide-angle bending and branching of the fault near Jinchanggou. This study also identifies the surface rupture of the A.D. 1890 earthquake, which is distributed intermittently along the ~28 km long Damaoyaba segments and ~25 km long Litang segments. The maximum horizontal displacement is 4.1 m along Damaoyaba segments, and 4 m along Litang segments. The rupture involves typical left-lateral shear movement. The two ruptures are divided by discontinuous segments or gaps that are ~18 km long;thus, the total surface rupture is approximately 71 km long. The estimated moment magnitude was M_(w)7.3±0.1. A comprehensive analysis of data obtained from 5 trenches excavated along the Damaoyaba and Litang segments and the trench data by Xu et al.(2005) identifies age constraints of the 4 most recent paleoseimic events occurred B.C. 1468±54–1340±25, B.C. 52±25–A.D. 76±47, A.D. 1115±90, and A.D. 1890, respectively. The recurrence intervals are 1 415±80, 1 104±104, and 775±90 a, which are consistent with quasi-periodic earthquake recurrence behavior. | 4 | Straw return increases crop grain yields and K-use efficiency under a maize-rice cropping system显示文摘Straw return is an effective way to improve crop grain yield and potassium(K)use efficiency by increasing soil K content.However,the effects of straw return on soil K supplying capacity,replacement of K fertilizer,and K-use efficiency under maize(Zea mays L.)–rice(Oryza sativa L.)cropping systems are little studied.A two-year field experiment was conducted to determine the physiological determinants of K-use efficiency under straw return with four K fertilization rates.Sr33(straw returned plus 33%of K fertilizer applied)and Sr67(straw returned plus 67%of K fertilizer applied)increased annual crop yields by 1.5%and 3.2%and increased agronomic K-use efficiency by respectively 2.9 and 1.3-fold on average in the two years,compared with the conventional practice S0K100(no straw returned plus normal amounts of K fertilizer applied).The Sr33 and Sr67 treatments resulted in significantly greater equilibrium K concentration ratios(CR0 K)and specifically exchangeable K(KX)values according to quantity/intensity(Q/I)relationship analyses,indicating improvement of the potential soil K supply capacity.However,the Sr67 better maintained the soil exchangeable K level and K balance.The results suggested that K released from maize and rice straw can replace about half of chemical K fertilizer,depending on the available K content in maize–rice cropping system production. | Yuling Han Wei Ma Baoyuan Zhou Akram Salah Mingjian Geng Cougui Cao Ming Zhan Ming Zhao | 2021 | The Crop Journal2021,9,1: | 5 |
| 5 | Hydrogen sulfide-linked persulfidation of ABI4 controls ABA responses through the transactivation of MAPKKK18 in Arabidopsis显示文摘Hydrogen sulfide(H2S)is a signaling molecule that regulates plant hormone and stress responses.The phytohormone abscisic acid(ABA)plays an important role in plant adaptation to unfavorable environmental conditions and induces the persulfidation of L-CYSTEINE DESULFHYDRASE1(DES1)and the production of H2S in guard cells.However,it remains largely unclear how H2S and protein persulfidation participate in the relay of ABA signals.In this study,we discovered that ABSCISIC ACID INSENSITIVE 4(ABI4)acts downstream of DES1 in the control of ABA responses in Arabidopsis.ABI4 undergoes persulfidation at Cys250 that is triggered in a time-dependent manner by ABA,and loss of DES1 function impairs this process.Cys250 and its persulfidation are essential for ABI4 function in the regulation of plant responses to ABA and the H2S donor NaHS during germination,seedling establishment,and stomatal closure,which are abolished in the ABI4Cys250Ala mutated variant.Introduction of the ABI4Cys250Ala variant into the abi4 des1 mutant did not rescue its hyposensitivity to ABA.Cys250 is critical for the binding of ABI4 to its cognate motif in the promoter of Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Kinase Kinase 18(MAPKKK18),which propagates the MAPK signaling cascade induced by ABA.Furthermore,the DES1-mediated persulfidation of ABI4 enhances the transactivation activity of ABI4 toward MAPKKK18,and ABI4 can bind the DES1 promoter,forming a regulatory loop.Taken together,these findings advance our understanding of a post-translational regulatory mechanism and suggest that ABI4 functions as an integrator of ABA and MAPK signals through a process in which DES1-produced H2S persulfidates ABI4 at Cys250. | Mingjian Zhou Jing Zhang Jie Shen Heng Zhou Didi Zhao Cecilia Gotor Luis CRomero Ling Fu Zongmin Li Jing Yang Wenbiao Shen Xingxing Yuan Yanjie Xie | 2021 | Molecular Plant2021,14,6: | 5 |
| 6 | Optimal capacity planning of combined renewable energy source-pumped storage and seawater desalination systems显示文摘As water scarcity is becoming a growing threat to human development, finding effective solutions has become an urgent need. To make better use of water resources, seawater desalination and storage systems using renewable energy sources(RES) are designed and implemented around the world. In this paper, an optimal capacity planning method for RES-pumped storage-seawater desalination(RES-PS-D) system is introduced. The configuration of the RES-PS-D system is clarified first, after which a cost-benefit analysis is performed using all cost and benefit components. A function for determining maximum economic benefits of the RES-PS-D system is then established, and the constraints are proposed based on various limitations. The mixed-integer linear programming algorithm is applied to solve the optimal function. A case study is introduced to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the method. | 11 | Exploring point zero:a study of 20 Chinese cities显示文摘A point zero represents a central geographical location of a city,which is essential for not only measuring distances,but also understanding the historical and/or cultural origin of a city.Although extensive studies have focused on delineating city centers,to our knowledge,no studies have paid attention to determining the location for a point zero.Here,our goal is to investigate various potential approaches for identifying such a location.Specifically,three typical approaches,geometric-based,topological-based,and thematic-based,are proposed to recommend point zeros and different scales,administrative divisions,kernel density sur-faces,and regions enclosed by ring roads are used for analysis.The effectiveness of different approaches and scales are evaluated and compared by calculating an offset distance between recommended and actual point zero locations in 20 Chinese cities.Using the different approaches,the average offset distance for most Chinese cities is 2-4 km,and the thematicbased approach performs best.Both the topological-based and thematic-based approaches are less sensitive to the analyzed scale than the geometric-based approach.The results indicate that it is possible to determine the approximate location for a point zero from geographical data.Based on the buffer zone of such a location,an actual point zero may further be recommended. | Qi Zhou Mingjian Zhai Wenhao Yu | 2020 | Geo-Spatial Information Science2020,23,3: | 0 |
