| 1 | One-year clinical study of NeuroR egen scaffold implantation following scar resection in complete chronic spinal cord injury patients显示文摘The objective of this clinical study was to assess the safety and feasibility of the collagen scaffold, Neuro Regen scaffold, one year after scar tissue resection and implantation. Scar tissue is a physical and chemical barrier that prevents neural regeneration. However, identification of scar tissue is still a major challenge. In this study, the nerve electrophysiology method was used to distinguish scar tissue from normal neural tissue, and then different lengths of scars ranging from 0.5–4.5 cm were surgically resected in five complete chronic spinal cord injury(SCI) patients. The NeuroR egen scaffold along with autologous bone marrow mononuclear cells(BMMCs), which have been proven to promote neural regeneration and SCI recovery in animal models, were transplanted into the gap in the spinal cord following scar tissue resection. No obvious adverse effects related to scar resection or Neuro Regen scaffold transplantation were observed immediately after surgery or at the 12-month follow-up. In addition, patients showed partially autonomic nervous function improvement, and the recovery of somatosensory evoked potentials(SSEP) from the lower limbs was also detected. | 2 | On-demand assembly of polymeric nanoparticles for longer-blood-circulation and disassembly in tumor for boosting sonodynamic therapy显示文摘Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is one of the promising strategies for tumor therapy, but its application is usually hindered by fast clearance in blood-circulation, abnormal tumor microenvironment, and inefficient generation of reactive oxygen species. To solve these problems, we proposed an on-demand assembly-disassembly strategy, where the assembly is favorable for longer-blood-circulation and then the disassembly in tumor is favorable for boosting SDT. Hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether (HMME) as the model of organic sonosensitizers were conjugated with hyaluronic acid (HA). Then HA-HMME was mixed with catalase (CAT) and assembled into polymeric nanoparticles (CAT@HA-HMME NPs) with size of ~80 nm. CAT@HA-HMME NPs exhibit good biocompatibility and a longer blood half-time (t1/2 = 4.17 h) which is obviously longer than that (~0.82 h) of HMME molecules. After HA receptor-mediated endocytosis of cancer cells, CAT@HA-HMME NPs can be cleaved by endogenous hyaluronidase, resulting in the on-demand disassembly in tumor to release HA-HMME molecules and CAT. The CAT catalyzes the endogenous H_(2)O_(2) into O_(2) to relieve the hypoxic microenvironment, and the released HA-HMME exhibits a higher ROS generation ability, greatly boosting SDT for the inhibition of tumor growth. | 4 | The mechanism of dentine hypersensitivity:Stimuli-induced directional cation transport through dentinal tubules显示文摘Dentine hypersensitivity is an annoying worldwide disease,yet its mechanism remains unclear.The long-used hydrodynamic theory,a stimuli-induced fluid-flow process,describes the pain processes.However,no experimental evidence supports the statements.Here,we demonstrate that stimuli-induced directional cation transport,rather than fluid-flow,through dentinal tubules actually leads to dentine hypersensitivity.The in vitro/in vivo electro-chemical and electro-neurophysiological approaches reveal the cation current through the nanoconfined negatively charged dentinal tubules coming from external stimuli(pressure,pH,and temperature)on dentin surface and further triggering the nerve impulses causing the dentine hypersensitivity.Furthermore,the cationic-hydrogels blocked dentinal tubules could significantly reduce the stimuli-triggered nerve action potentials and the anionhydrogels counterpart enhances those,supporting the cation-flow transducing dentine hypersensitivity.Therefore,the inspired ion-blocking desensitizing therapies have achieved remarkable pain relief in clinical applications.The proposed mechanism would enrich the basic knowledge of dentistry and further foster breakthrough initiatives in hypersensitivity mitigation and cure. | Nuo Chen Jingjing Deng Shengjie Jiang Xiang-Yu Kong Teng Zhou Kai Zhao Zuohui Xiao Huimin Zheng Weipeng Chen Congcong Zhu Xinyu Liu Liping Wen Yan Wei Xuliang Deng Lei Jiang | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,1: | 2 |
| 5 | Besshi-type mineral systems in the Palaeoproterozoic Bryah Rift-Basin, Capricorn Orogen, Western Australia: Implications for tectonic setting and geodynamic evolution显示文摘In this contribution we use VMS mineral systems in the Bryah rift-basin to constrain the tectonic setting of the widespread mafic and ultramafic magmatism that characterises the rift-basin in question.Two distinct,but temporally closely associated,lithostratigraphic sequences,Narracoota and Karalundi Formations,are discussed.The Karalundi Formation is the main host of VMS mineral systems in the region.The Karalundi Formation consists of turbiditic and immature clastic sediments,which are locally intercalated with basaltic hyaloclastites,dolerites and banded jaspilites.We propose that the basaltic hyaloclastites,dolerites and elastics and jaspilites rocks,form a distinct unit of the Karalundi Formation,named Noonyereena Member.The VMS mineral systems occur near the north-east trendingJenkin Fault and comprise the giant and world-class DeCrussa and the Red Bore deposits.The nature of these deposits and their intimate association with terrigenous clastic rocks and dominantly marine mafic volcanic and subvolcanic rocks,as well as the common development of peperitic margins,are considered indicative of a Besshi-type environment,similar to that of present-day Gulf of California.Our Re-Os age data from a primary pyrite yielded a mean model age of 2012 ± 48 Ma,which coincides(within error) with recent published Re-Os data(Hawke et al.,2015) and confirms the timing of the proposed geodynamic evolution.We propose a geodynamic model that attempts to explain the presence of the Narracoota and Karalundi Formations as the result of mantle plume activity,which began with early uplift of continental crust with intraplate volcanism,followed by early stages of rifting with the deposition of the Karalundi Formation(and Noonyereena Member),which led to the formation of Besshi-type VMS deposits.With on-going mantle plume activity and early stages of continental separation,an oceanic plateau was formed and is now represented by mafic-ultramafic rocks of the Narracoota Formation. | Franco Pirajno Yanjing Chen Nuo Li Chao Li Limin Zhou | 2016 | Geoscience Frontiers2016,7,3: | 2 |

| 7 | Biodegradable, Super-Strong, and Conductive Cellulose Macrofibers for Fabric-Based Triboelectric Nanogenerator显示文摘Electronic fibers used to fabricate wearable triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG) for harvesting human mechanical energy have been extensively explored. However, little attention is paid to their mutual advantages of environmental friendliness, mechanical properties, and stability. Here, we report a super-strong, biodegradable, and washable cellulose-based conductive macrofibers, which is prepared by wet-stretching and wet-twisting bacterial cellulose hydrogel incorporated with carbon nanotubes and polypyrrole. The cellulose-based conductive macrofibers possess high tensile strength of 449 MPa(able to lift 2 kg weights), good electrical conductivity(~ 5.32 S cm^(-1)), and excellent stability(Tensile strength and conductivity only decrease by 6.7% and 8.1% after immersing in water for 1 day). The degradation experiment demonstrates macrofibers can be degraded within 108 h in the cellulase solution. The designed fabric-based TENG from the cellulose-base conductive macrofibers shows a maximum open-circuit voltage of 170 V, short-circuit current of 0.8 μA, and output power at 352 μW, which is capable of powering the commercial electronics by charging the capacitors. More importantly, the fabric-based TENGs can be attached to the human body and work as self-powered sensors to effectively monitor human motions. | 8 | Natural astaxanthin enhanced antioxidant capacity and improved semen quality through the MAPK/Nrf2 pathway in aging layer breeder roosters显示文摘Background:Natural astaxanthin(ASTA)has strong antioxidant properties and has been widely used as a health product to improve human health.However,the effects of ASTA on the reproductive performance of aging roosters have been poorly studied.We aimed to investigate the effects of dietary ASTA on semen quality and antioxidant capacity in aging roosters and to explore the potential mechanism of semen quality change via antioxidation defense system.Methods:In the present study,9653-week-old Jinghong No.1 layer breeder roosters were fed a corn-soybean meal basal diet containing 0,25,50,or 100 mg/kg ASTA for 6 weeks.Results:Semen quality in the ASTA groups remarkably improved than that in the control group,and antioxidant activities,the abilities to scavenge hydroxyl radicals and superoxide anions,increased gradually with ASTA addition(P<0.05).In addition,the mRNA levels of antioxidant enzymes as well as the mRNA and protein levels of the mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)and nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)were markedly increased in the 50-100 mg/kg ASTA group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Collectively,these results demonstrate that dietary ASTA may improve semen quality by increasing antioxidant enzyme activities and the ability to scavenge hydroxyl radicals,which may be related to upregulation of the MAPK/Nrf2 pathway. | Shan Gao Nuo Heng Fang Liu Yong Guo Yu Chen Liang Wang Hemin Ni Xihui Sheng Xiangguo Wang Kai Xing Longfei Xiao Xiaolong Qi | 2022 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2022,13,2: | 2 |
