| 1 | Blocking FSH inhibits hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis and reduces serum cholesterol显示文摘Menopause is associated with dyslipidemia and an increased risk of cardio-cerebrovascular disease.The classic view assumes that the underlying mechanism of dyslipidemia is attributed to an insufficiency of estrogen.In addition to a decrease in estrogen, circulating follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)levels become elevated at menopause.In this study,we find that blocking FSH reduces serum cholesterol via inhibiting hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis.First,epidemiological results show that the serum FSH levels are positively correlated with the serum total cholesterol levels,even after adjustment by considering the effects of serum estrogen,in addition,the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia is significantly higher in peri-menopausal women than that in premenopausal women.Furthermore,we generated a mouse model of FSH elevation by intraperitoneally injecting exogenous FSH into ovariectomized (OVX)mice,in which a normal level of estrogen (E2)was maintained by exogenous supplementation. Consistently,the results indicate that FSH,independent of estrogen,increases the serum cholesterol level in this mouse model. Aiming at these problems, this paper propose a new data structure called Rank-based multi-version Merkle AVL tree(RBMV-MAT) to achieve efficient batch updating verification for multi-version data.RBMV-MAT uses a special lock and relaxed balance to decrease the frequency of rebalacing operations. | 5 | Observations of upper layer turbulent mixing in the southern South China Sea显示文摘A turbulent microstructure experiment was undertaken at a low latitude of 10°N in the South China Sea in late August 2012. The characteristics of the eddy diffusivity above 650 m were analyzed, which is one order of magnitude larger than that in the open ocean at that low latitude. Enhanced eddy diffusivities by strong shears and sharp changes in topography were observed. The strongest eddy diffusivity occurred in the mixed layer, and it reached O(10–2 m2/s). Strong stratification in the thermocline inhibited the penetration of surface eddy diffusivities through the thermocline, where the mixing was weakest. | 6 | Performance of common buckwheat(Fagopyrum esculentum M.) supplied with selenite or selenate for selenium biofortification in northeastern China显示文摘Selenium(Se)deficiency commonly occurs in soils of northeastern China and leads to insufficient Se intake by humans.A two-year field study of Se biofortification of common buckwheat supplied with 40 g Se ha^(-1)as selenite(Se(IV)),selenate(Se(VI)),or a combination(1/2 Se(IV+VI))was performed to investigate Se accumulation and translocation in plants and determine the effects of different forms of Se on the grain yield,biomass production,and Se use efficiency of plants and seeds.Se application increased seed Se concentrations to 47.1–265.1μg kg^(-1).Seed Se concentrations following Se(VI)or 1/2 Se(IV+VI)treatment exceeded 100μg kg^(-1),an amount suitable for crop Se biofortification.Se concentration in shoots and roots decreased with plant development,and Se translocation from root to shoot in Se(IV)-treated plants was lower than that in plants treated with 1/2 Se(IV+VI)and Se(VI).Both grain yield and biomass production increased under 1/2 Se(IV+VI)treatment,with grain yields reaching 1663.8 and 1558.5 kg ha^(-1)in 2015 and 2016,respectively,reflecting increases of 11.0% and 10.3% over those without Se application.The Se use efficiency of seeds and plants under Se(VI)treatment was significantly higher than those under 1/2 Se(IV+VI)and Se(IV)treatments.Thus,application of selenate could result in higher Se accumulation in buckwheat seeds than application of the other Se sources,but the combined application of selenate and selenite might be an alternative approach for improving buckwheat grain yield by Se biofortification in northeastern China. | Ying Jiang Xiaomin Feng Yadong Yang Xiangxue Qi Yongfeng Ren Youhui Gao Weidong Liu Yuegao Hu Zhaohai Zeng | 2018 | The Crop Journal2018,6,4: | 3 |
| 7 | Spatial structure of turbulent mixing of an anticyclonic mesoscale eddy in the northern South China Sea显示文摘Upper turbulent mixing in the interior and surrounding areas of an anticyclonic eddy in the northern South China Sea(SCS)was estimated from underwater glider data(May 2015)in the present study,using the Gregg-HenyeyPolzin parameterization and the Thorpe-scale method.The observations revealed a clear asymmetrical spatial pattern of turbulent mixing in the anticyclonic eddy area.Enhanced diffusivity(in the order of 10–3 m2/s)was found at the posterior edge of the anticyclonic mesoscale eddy;on the anterior side,diffusivity was one order of magnitude lower on average.This asymmetrical pattern was highly correlated with the eddy kinetic energy.Higher shear variance on the posterior side,which is conducive to the triggering of shear instability,may be the main mechanism for the elevated diffusivity.In addition,the generation and growth of sub-mesoscale motions that are fed by mesoscale eddies on their posterior side may also promote the occurrence of strong mixing in the studied region.The results of this study help improve our knowledge regarding turbulent mixing in the northern SCS. | Yongfeng Qi Chenjing Shang Huabin Mao Chunhua Qiu Changrong Liang Linghui Yu Jiancheng Yu Xiaodong Shang | 2020 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2020,39,11: | 2 |

| 10 | Distinct lung microbial community states in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis显示文摘An improved understanding of the lung microbiome may lead to better strategies to diagnose, treat, and prevent pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). However, the characteristics of the lung microbiomes of patients with TB remain largely undefined. In this study, 163 bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) samples were collected from 163 sputum-negative suspected PTB patients. Furthermore, 12 paired BAL samples were obtained from 12 Mycobacterium tuberculosis-positive (MTB+) patients before and after negative conversion following a two-month anti-TB treatment. The V3–V4 region of the 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene was used to characterize the microbial composition of the lungs. The results showed that the prevalence of MTB in the BAL samples was 42.9% (70/163) among the sputum-negative patients. The α-diversity of lung microbiota was significantly less diverse in MTB+ patients compared with Mycobacterium tuberculosis-negative (MTB–) patients. There was a significant difference in β-diversity between MTB+ and MTB– patients. MTB+ patients were enriched with Anoxybacillus, while MTB– patients were enriched with Prevotella, Alloprevotella, Veillonella, and Gemella. There was no significant difference between the Anoxybacillus detection rates of MTB+ and MTB– patients. The paired comparison between the BAL samples from MTB+ patients and their negative conversion showed that BAL negative-conversion microbiota had a higher α-diversity. In conclusion, distinct features of airway microbiota could be identified between samples from patients with and without MTB. | 12 | Spin-selective corner reflector for retro-reflection and absorption by a circular dichroitic manner显示文摘Recently, we have witnessed an extraordinary spurt in attention toward manipulating electromagnetic waves by metasurfaces. Particularly, tailoring of circular polarization has attracted great amounts of interest in both microwave and optics regimes. Circular dichroism, an exotic chiroptical effect of natural molecules, has aroused discussion about this issue, yet it is still in its infancy. Herein, we initiate circular dichroism followed by controlling spin-selective wavefronts via chiral metasurfaces. An N-shaped chiral resonator loaded with two lumped resistors is proposed as the meta-atom producing an adequate phase gradient. Assisted by the ohmic dissipation of the introduced resistors, the effect of differential absorption provides an auxiliary degree of freedom for developing circularly polarized waves with a designated spin state. A planar corner reflector that can achieve retro-reflection and absorption for right-and left-handed circularly polarized incidence is theoretically simulated and experimentally observed at microwave frequency. | 15 | MCMOD:The Multi-Category Large-Scale Dataset for Maritime Object Detection显示文摘The marine environment is becoming increasingly complex due tothe various marine vehicles,and the diversity of maritime objects poses a challengeto marine environmental governance.Maritime object detection technologyplays an important role in this segment.In the field of computer vision,there is no sufficiently comprehensive public dataset for maritime objects inthe contrast to the automotive application domain.The existing maritimedatasets either have no bounding boxes(which are made for object classification)or cover limited varieties of maritime objects.To fulfil the vacancy,this paper proposed the Multi-Category Large-Scale Dataset for MaritimeObject Detection(MCMOD)which is collected by 3 onshore video camerasthat capture data under various environmental conditions such as fog,rain,evening,etc.The whole dataset consists of 16,166 labelled images alongwith 98,590 maritime objects which are classified into 10 classes.Comparedwith the existing maritime datasets,MCMOD contains a relatively balancedquantity of objects of different sizes(in the view).To evaluate MCMOD,this paper applied several state-of-the-art object detection approaches fromcomputer vision research on it and compared their performances.Moreover,a comparison between MCMOD and an existing maritime dataset was conducted.Experimental results indicate that the proposed dataset classifies moretypes of maritime objects and covers more small-scale objects,which canfacilitate the trained detectors to recognize more types of maritime objects anddetect maritime objects over a relatively long distance.The obtained resultsalso showthat the adopted approaches need to be further improved to enhancetheir capabilities in the maritime domain. | Zihao Sun Xiao Hu Yining Qi Yongfeng Huang Songbin Li | 2023 | Computers, Materials & Continua2023,,4: | 0 |
