1Crucial physical characteristics of sea ice in the Arctic section of 143°–180°W during August and early September 2008显示文摘Sea-ice physical characteristics were investigated in the Arctic section of 143°-180°W during August and early September 2008. Ship-based observations show that both the sea-ice thickness and concentration recorded during southward navigation from 30 August to 6 September were remarkably less than those recorded during northward navigation from 3 to 30 August, especially at low latitudes. Accordingly, the marginal ice zone moved from about 74.0°N to about 79.5°N from mid-August to early September. Melt-pond coverage increased with increasing latitude, peaking at 84.4°N, where about 27% of ice was covered by melt ponds. Above this latitude, melt-pond coverage decreased evidently as the ice at high latitudes experienced a relatively short melt season and commenced its growth stage by the end of August. Regional mean ice thickness increased from 0.8 (±0.5) m at 75.0°N to 1.5 (±0.4) m at 85.0°N along the northward navigation while it decreased rapidly to 0.6 (±0.3) m at 78.0°N along the southward navigation. Because of relatively low ice concentration and thin ice in the investigated Arctic sector, both the short-term ice stations and ice camp could only be set up over multiyear sea ice. Observations of ice properties based on ice cores collected at the short-term ice stations and the ice camp show that all investigated floes were essentially isothermal with high temperature and porosity, and low density and salinity. Most ices had salinity below 2 and mean density of 800-860 kg/m^3 . 2The uniaxial compressive strength of the Arctic summer sea ice显示文摘The results on the uniaxial compressive strength of Arctic summer sea ice are presented based on the samples collected during the fifth Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition in 2012(CHINARE-2012). Experimental studies were carried out at different testing temperatures(-3,-6 and-9°C), and vertical samples were loaded at stress rates ranging from 0.001 to 1 MPa/s. The temperature, density, and salinity of the ice were measured to calculate the total porosity of the ice. In order to study the effects of the total porosity and the density on the uniaxial compressive strength, the measured strengths for a narrow range of stress rates from 0.01 to 0.03 MPa/s were analyzed. The results show that the uniaxial compressive strength decreases linearly with increasing total porosity, and when the density was lower than 0.86 g/cm3, the uniaxial compressive strength increases in a power-law manner with density. The uniaxial compressive behavior of the Arctic summer sea ice is sensitive to the loading rate, and the peak uniaxial compressive strength is reached in the brittle-ductile transition range. 3Comparisons of passive microwave remote sensing sea ice concentrations with ship-based visual observations during the CHINARE Arctic summer cruises of 2010–2018显示文摘In order to apply satellite data to guiding navigation in the Arctic more effectively,the sea ice concentrations(SIC)derived from passive microwave(PM)products were compared with ship-based visual observations(OBS)collected during the Chinese National Arctic Research Expeditions(CHINARE).A total of 3667 observations were collected in the Arctic summers of 2010,2012,2014,2016,and 2018.PM SIC were derived from the NASA-Team(NT),Bootstrap(BT)and Climate Data Record(CDR)algorithms based on the SSMIS sensor,as well as the BT,enhanced NASA-Team(NT2)and ARTIST Sea Ice(ASI)algorithms based on AMSR-E/AMSR-2 sensors.The daily arithmetic average of PM SIC values and the daily weighted average of OBS SIC values were used for the comparisons.The correlation coefficients(CC),biases and root mean square deviations(RMSD)between PM SIC and OBS SIC were compared in terms of the overall trend,and under mild/normal/severe ice conditions.Using the OBS data,the influences of floe size and ice thickness on the SIC retrieval of different PM products were evaluated by calculating the daily weighted average of floe size code and ice thickness.Our results show that CC values range from 0.89(AMSR-E/AMSR-2 NT2)to 0.95(SSMIS NT),biases range from−3.96%(SSMIS NT)to 12.05%(AMSR-E/AMSR-2 NT2),and RMSD values range from 10.81%(SSMIS NT)to 20.15%(AMSR-E/AMSR-2 NT2).Floe size has a significant influence on the SIC retrievals of the PM products,and most of the PM products tend to underestimate SIC under smaller floe size conditions and overestimate SIC under larger floe size conditions.Ice thickness thicker than 30 cm does not have a significant influence on the SIC retrieval of PM products.Overall,the best(worst)agreement occurs between OBS SIC and SSMIS NT(AMSR-E/AMSR-2 NT2)SIC in the Arctic summer.Yuanren Xiu Zhijun Li Ruibo Lei Qingkai Wang Peng Lu Matti Leppäranta 2020Acta Oceanologica Sinica2020,39,9:6

6Physical and optical characteristics of sea ice in the Pacific Arctic Sector during the summer of 2018显示文摘The reduction in Arctic sea ice in summer has been reported to have a significant impact on the global climate.In this study,Arctic sea ice/snow at the end of the melting season in 2018 was investigated during CHINARE-2018,in terms of its temperature,salinity,density and textural structure,the snow density,water content and albedo,as well as morphology and albedo of the refreezing melt pond.The interior melting of sea ice caused a strong stratification of temperature,salinity and density.The temperature of sea ice ranged from–0.8℃ to 0℃,and exhibited linear cooling with depth.The average salinity and density of sea ice were approximately 1.3 psu and 825 kg/m3,respectively,and increased slightly with depth.The first-year sea ice was dominated by columnar grained ice.Snow cover over all the investigated floes was in the melt phase,and the average water content and density were 0.74%and 241 kg/m3,respectively.The thickness of the thin ice lid ranged from 2.2 cm to 7.0 cm,and the depth of the pond ranged from 1.8 cm to 26.8 cm.The integrated albedo of the refreezing melt pond was in the range of 0.28–0.57.Because of the thin ice lid,the albedo of the melt pond improved to twice as high as that of the mature melt pond.These results provide a reference for the current state of Arctic sea ice and the mechanism of its reduction.Xiaowei Cao Peng Lu Ruibo Lei Qingkai Wang Zhijun Li 2020Acta Oceanologica Sinica2020,39,9:2
7A new cytotoxic salannin-class limonoid alkaloid from seeds of Azadirachta indica A. Juss显示文摘A new cytotoxic salannin-class limonoid alkaloid, azadiramide A(1),was isolated from seeds of Azadirachta indica A. Juss. Its structure was elucidated by extensive analysis of spectroscopic data and quantum chemical calculation. Compound 1 is a rare salannin-class limonoid alkaloid. To our best knowledge, only two compounds belonging to this type were so far found. 9Features of sea ice motion observed with ice buoys from the central Arctic Ocean to Fram Strait显示文摘Using six ice-tethered buoys deployed in 2012,we analyzed sea ice motion in the central Arctic Ocean and Fram Strait.The two-hourly buoy-derived ice velocities had a magnitude range of 0.010.80 m s 1,although ice velocities within the Arctic Basin were generally less than 0.4 m s 1.Complex Fourier transformation showed that the amplitudes of the sea ice velocities had a non-symmetric inertial oscillation.These inertial oscillations were characterized by a strong peak at a frequency of approximately 2 cycle d 1 on the Fourier velocity spectrum.Wind was a main driving force for ice motion,characterized by a linear relationship between ice velocity and 10-m wind speed.Typically,the ice velocity was about 1.4%of the 10-m wind speed.Our analysis of ice velocity and skin temperature showed that ice velocity increased by nearly 2%with each 10℃increase in skin temperature.This was likely related to weakened ice strength under increasing temperature.The ice-wind turning angle was also correlated with 10-m wind speed and skin temperature.When the wind speed was less than 12 m s 1 or skin temperature was less than 30℃,the ice-wind turning angle decreased with either increasing wind speed or skin temperature.Clearly,sea ice drift in the central Arctic Ocean and Fram Strait is dependent upon seasonal changes in both temperature and wind speed.HAN Hongwei LEI Ruibo LU Peng LI Zhijun 2020Advances in Polar Science2020,31,1:1
10Programming bare-metal accelerators with heterogeneous threading models:a case study of Matrix-3000显示文摘As the hardware industry moves toward using specialized heterogeneous many-core processors to avoid the effects of the power wall,software developers are finding it hard to deal with the complexity of these systems.In this paper,we share our experience of developing a programming model and its supporting compiler and libraries for Matrix-3000,which is designed for next-generation exascale supercomputers but has a complex memory hierarchy and processor organization.To assist its software development,we have developed a software stack from scratch that includes a low-level programming interface and a high-level OpenCL compiler.Our low-level programming model offers native programming support for using the bare-metal accelerators of Matrix-3000,while the high-level model allows programmers to use the OpenCL programming standard.We detail our design choices and highlight the lessons learned from developing system software to enable the programming of bare-metal accelerators.Our programming models have been deployed in the production environment of an exascale prototype system.Jianbin FANG Peng ZHANG Chun HUANG Tao TANG Kai LU Ruibo WANG Zheng WANG 2023Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering2023,24,4:1

12Exploring the catalytic function and active sites of a novel C-glycosyltransferase from Anemarrhena asphodeloides显示文摘Anemarrhena asphodeloides is an immensely popular medicinal herb in China,which contains an abundant of mangiferin.As an important bioactive xanthone C-glycoside,mangiferin possesses a variety of pharmacological activities and is derived from the cyclization reaction of a benzophenone C-glycoside(maclurin).Biosyntheti-cally,C-glycosyltransferases are critical for the formation of benzophenone C-glycosides.However,the benzo-phenone C-glycosyltransferases from Anemarrhena asphodeloides have not been discovered.Herein,a promiscuous C-glycosyltransferase(AaCGT)was identified from Anemarrhena asphodeloides.It was able to catalyze efficiently mono-C-glycosylation of benzophenone,together with di-C-glycosylation of dihydrochalcone.It also exhibited the weak O-glycosylation or potent S-glycosylation capacities toward 12 other types of flavonoid scaffolds and a simple aromatic compound with–SH group.Homology modeling and mutagenesis experiments revealed that the glycosylation reaction of AaCGT was initiated by the conserved residue H23 as the catalytic base.Three critical residues H356,W359 and D380 were involved in the recognition of sugar donor through hydrogen-bonding interactions.In particular,the double mutant of F94W/L378M led to an unexpected enzy-matic conversion of mono-C-to di-C-glycosylation.This study highlights the important value of AaCGT as a potential biocatalyst for efficiently synthesizing high-value C-glycosides.Jia Huang Yaru She Jingyang Yue Yidu Chen Yu Li Jing Li Yonger Hu Deying Yang Jiabo Chen Lu Yang Zhongqiu Liu Ruibo Wu Pengfei Jin Lixin Duan 2022Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2022,7,1:1
13Advancing the understanding of variations of Arctic sea ice optical and thermal behaviors through an international research and mobility project显示文摘In recent decades, significant changes of Arctic sea ice have taken place. These changes are expected to influence the surface energy balance of the ice-covered Arctic Ocean. To quantify this energy balance and to increase our understanding of mechanisms leading to observed changes in the Arctic sea ice, the project 'Advancing Modelling and Observing solar Radiation of Arctic sea ice—understanding changes and processes(AMORA)' was initiated and conducted from 2009 to 2013. AMORA was funded and organized under a frame of Norway-China bilateral collaboration program with partners from Finland, Germany, and the USA. The primary goal of the project was achieved by developing an autonomous spectral radiation buoy, deploying it on drifting sea ice close to the North Pole, and receiving a high-resolution time series of spectral radiation over and under sea ice from spring(before melt onset) to autumn(after freeze-up) 2012. Beyond this, in-situ sea ice data were collected during several field campaigns and simulations of snow and sea ice thermodynamics were performed. More autonomous measurements are available through deployments of sea ice mass balance buoys. These new observational data along with numerical model studies are helping us to better understand the key thermodynamic processes of Arctic sea ice and changes in polar climate. 142014 summer Arctic sea ice thickness and concentration from shipborne observations显示文摘A series of shipborne sea ice observations were performed during the Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition in the Pacific Arctic sector between 2 August 2014 and 1 September 2014.Undeformed sea ice thickness(SIT)as well as area fractions of open water,melt pond,and sea ice(Aw,Ap,and Ai)were monitored using downward-oriented and oblique-oriented cameras.The results show that SIT varied between 20 and 220 cm throughout the whole cruise,with the average and standard deviation equaling 104.9 and 29.1 cm,respectively.Mean Aw and Ai were 0.52 and 0.44 in the marginal ice zone,respectively,while mean Aw decreased to 0.23 and mean Ai increased to 0.73 in the pack ice zone.Limited variation between 0 and 0.32 in Ap was seen throughout the whole cruise.Shipborne sea ice concentration was then rectified and mapped across a large transect to validate estimates derived from the satellite sensors Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder(SSMIS)(25 km)and AMSR2(25 km).Overestimations were 9.5%and 9.9%for SSMIS and AMSR2 compared with measurements,respectively.The mean areal broadband surface albedo based on shipborne survey increased from 0.07 to 0.66 along the transect between 72°N and 81°N.Qingkai Wang Zhijun Li Peng Lu Ruibo Lei Bin Cheng 2019International Journal of Digital Earth2019,12,8:0
15Thickness distribution and extent of sea ice and snow in Prydz Bay and surrounding waters observed in 2012/2013 austral summer显示文摘Three ship-based observational campaigns were conducted to survey sea ice and snow in Prydz Bay and the surrounding waters(64.40°S–69.40°S, 76.11°E–81.29°E) from 28 November 2012 to 3 February 2013. In this paper, we present the sea ice extent and its variation, and the ice and snow thickness distributions and their variations with time in the observed zone. In the pack ice zone, the southern edge of the pack ice changed little, whereas the northern edge retreated significantly during the two earlier observation periods. Compared with the pack ice, the fast ice exhibited a significantly slower variation in extent with its northernmost edge retreating southwards by 6.7 km at a rate of 0.37 km?d-1. Generally, ice showed an increment in thickness with increasing latitude from the end of November to the middle of December. Ice and snow thickness followed an approximate normal distribution during the two earlier observations(79.7±28.9 cm, 79.1±19.1 cm for ice thickness, and 11.6±6.1 cm, 9.6±3.4 cm for snow thickness, respectively), and the distribution tended to be more concentrated in mid-December than in late November. The expected value of ice thickness decreased by 0.6 cm, whereas that of snow thickness decreased by 2 cm from 28 November to 18 December 2012. 16Thermodynamic properties of snow cover on sea ice during the austral summer in Prydz Bay,East Antarctica显示文摘The thermodynamic properties of snow cover on sea ice play a key role in the ice-ocean-atmosphere system and have been a focus of recent scientific research. In this study, we investigated the thermodynamic properties of snow cover on sea ice in the Nella Fjord, Prydz Bay, East Antarctica(69°20′S, 76°07′E), near the Chinese Antarctic Zhongshan Station. Our observations were carried out during the 29th Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition. We found that the vertical temperature profile of snow cover changed considerably in response to changes in air temperature and solar radiation during the summer. Associated with the changes in the temperature profile were fluctuations in the temperature gradient within the upper 10 cm of the snow cover. Results of previous research have shown that the thermal conductivity of snow is strongly correlated with snow density. To calculate the thermal conductivity in this study, we measured densities in three snow pits. The calculated thermal conductivity ranged from 0.258–0.569 W?m-1?K-1. 17TEES:topology-aware execution environment service for fast and agile application deployment in HPC显示文摘High-performance computing(HPC)systems are about to reach a new height:exascale.Application deployment is becoming an increasingly prominent problem.Container technology solves the problems of encapsulation and migration of applications and their execution environment.However,the container image is too large,and deploying the image to a large number of compute nodes is time-consuming.Although the peer-to-peer(P2P)approach brings higher transmission efficiency,it introduces larger network load.All of these issues lead to high startup latency of the application.To solve these problems,we propose the topology-aware execution environment service(TEES)for fast and agile application deployment on HPC systems.TEES creates a more lightweight execution environment for users,and uses a more efficient topology-aware P2P approach to reduce deployment time.Combined with a split-step transport and launch-in-advance mechanism,TEES reduces application startup latency.In the Tianhe HPC system,TEES realizes the deployment and startup of a typical application on 17560 compute nodes within 3 s.Compared to container-based application deployment,the speed is increased by 12-fold,and the network load is reduced by 85%.Mingtian SHAO Kai LU Wanqing CHI Ruibo WANG Yiqin DAI Wenzhe ZHANG 2022Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering2022,23,11:0

19Towards adaptive graph neural networks via solving prior-data conflicts显示文摘Graph neural networks(GNNs)have achieved remarkable performance in a variety of graph-related tasks.Recent evidence in the GNN community shows that such good performance can be attributed to the homophily prior;i.e.,connected nodes tend to have similar features and labels.However,in heterophilic settings where the features of connected nodes may vary significantly,GNN models exhibit notable performance deterioration.In this work,we formulate this problem as prior-data confict and propose a model called the mixture-prior graph neural network(MPGNN).First,to address the mismatch of homophily prior on heterophilic graphs,we introduce the non-informative prior,which makes no assumptions about the relationship between connected nodes and learns such relationship from the data.Second,to avoid performance degradation on homophilic graphs,we implement a soft switch to balance the effects of homophily prior and non-informative prior by learnable weights.We evaluate the performance of MPGNN on both synthetic and real-world graphs.Results show that MPGNN can effectively capture the relationship between connected nodes,while the soft switch helps select a suitable prior according to the graph characteristics.With these two designs,MPGNN outperforms state-of-the-art methods on heterophilic graphs without sacrificing performance on homophilic graphs.Xugang WU Huijun WU Ruibo WANG Xu ZHOU Kai LU 2024Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering2024,25,3:0
