1Characteristics of air pollution events over Hotan Prefecture at the southwestern edge of Taklimakan Desert, China显示文摘Hotan Prefecture is located at the southwestern edge of Taklimakan Desert, the world's largest shifting sand desert, of China. The desert is one of the main sources for frequent sand-dust weather events which strongly affect the air quality of Hotan Prefecture. Although this region is characterized by the highest annual mean PM_(10) concentration values that are routinely recorded by environmental monitoring stations across China, both this phenomenon and its underlying causes have not been adequately addressed in previous researches. Reliable pollutant PM_(10) data are currently retrieved using a tapered element oscillating microbalance(TEOM) 1400 a, a direct real-time monitor, while additional concentration values including for PM_(2.5), sulfur dioxide(SO_2), nitrogen dioxide(NO_2), carbon monoxide(CO) and ozone(O_3) have been collected in recent years by the Hotan Environmental Monitoring Station. Based on these data, this paper presents a comparison of the influences of different kinds of sand-dust weather events on PM10(or PM_(2.5)) as well as the concentrations of other gaseous pollutants in Hotan Prefecture. It is revealed that the highest monthly average PM10 concentrations are observed in the spring because of the frequent occurrence of three distinct kinds of sand-dust weather events at this time, including dust storms, blowing dust and floating dust. The floating dust makes the most significant contribution to PM_(10)(or PM_(2.5)) concentration in this region, a result that differs from eastern Chinese cities where the heaviest PM_(10) pollution occurs usually in winter and air pollution results from the excess emission of local anthropogenic pollutants. It is also shown that PM_(10) concentration varies within typical dust storms. PM_(10) concentrations vary among 20 dust storm events within Hotan Prefecture, and the hourly mean concentrations tend to sharply increase initially then slowly decreasing over time. Data collected from cities in eastern China show the opposite with the hourly mean PM_(10)(or PM_(2.5)) concentration tending to slowly increase then sharply decrease during heavy air pollution due to the excess emission of local anthropogenic pollutants. It is also found that the concentration of gaseous pollutants during sand-dust weather events tends to be lower than those cases under clear sky conditions. This indicates that these dust events effectively remove and rapidly diffuse gaseous pollutants. The analysis also shows that the concentration of SO_2 decreases gradually at the onset of all three kinds of sand-dust weather events because of rapidly increasing wind velocity and the development of favorable atmospheric conditions for diffusion. 3Temporal variations in aerosol composition at Lanzhou City, Northwestern China显示文摘Although Lanzhou is one of the most heavily polluted cities in China, the composition of its air pollutants have not yet been stud- ied in detail. The data of four months on the concentrations and compositions of ions from daily air-filter samples in the winter and spring during 2007-2008 were analyzed to investigate temporal trends and their possible causes. The results indicate that mean concentrations of almost all the aerosol components are greater in winter than in spring due to stronger emissions in winter and weaker localized dispersion. Spring dust storms are the major cause of the highest peak PM10 concentrations recorded during the study period; however, these elevated levels were transient. Ion concentrations related to coal combustion show the greatest reduc- tion from winter to spring, while the concentrations of strong crustal components show a less-pronounced reduction. Strong cycles in the levels of particulate matter (PM) and all ions are also observed during the winter months due to meteorological conditions. Depending on the season, nine different ions accounted for 20%-50% of the PM concentration. The particle size of polluting ions was constant at times of increasing PM concentrations (particularly during winter), whereas the particle size of crustal ions in- creased dramatically during spring dust storms. Local meteorological conditions (especially wind speed) have a strong influence on the levels of pollutants. Four dust storms were noted, including one during winter. In summary, the regional transport of desert dust from the Gobi can significantly affect air quality and the chemical composition of aerosols in Lanzhou. The dust storms can strongly increase concentration of crustal ions, which are characteristics of deserts in northwestern China. This observation is in agreement with back-trajectories, which show reduced levels of pollutant ions during dust storms. 5Water-soluble PANI:PSS designed for spontaneous non-disruptive membrane penetration and direct intracellular photothermal damage on bacteria显示文摘The major challenge in the field of antibacterial agents is to overcome the low-permeability of bacteria cell membranes that protects the cells against diverse drugs.In this work,water-soluble polyaniline(PANI)-poly(p-styrenesulfonic acid)(PSS)(PANI:PSS)is found to spontaneously penetrate bacteria cellular membranes in a non-disruptive way,leaving no evidence of membrane poration/disturbance or cell death,thus avoiding side effects caused by cationic ammonia groups in traditional ammonia-containing antibacterial agents.For aqueous synthesis,which is important for biocompatibility,the polymer is synthesized via an enzyme-mimetic route relying on the catalysis of a nanozyme.Owing to its fluorescent properties,the localization of as-prepared PANI:PSS is determined by the confocal microscope,and the results confirm its rapid entry into bacteria.Under 808 nm near-infrared(NIR)irradiation,the internalized PANI:PSS generates local hyperthermia and destroys bacteria highly efficiently from inside the cells due to its excellent photothermal effects.Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus),Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA)and Escherichia coli(E.coli)could be effectively eliminated as well as the corresponding bacterial biofilms.Results of in vivo antibacterial experiments demonstrate excellent antibacterial activities of the water-soluble PANI:PSS without side effects.Therefore,the prepared water-soluble polymer in this study has great potential in the treatment of various bacterial infections.Huanfeng Tang Yifan Liu Bing Li Bo Shang Jiacheng Yang Congrou Zhang Lijun Yang Kezheng Chen Wei Wang Jianfeng Liu 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,12:1

12A new method for instant correction of numerical weather prediction products in China显示文摘This paper presents a new correction method, 'instant correction method(ICM)', to improve the accuracy of numerical prediction products(NPP) and provide weather variables at grid cells. The ICM makes use of the continuity in time of the forecast errors at different forecast times to improve the accuracy of large scale NPP. To apply the ICM in China, an ensemble correction scheme is designed to correct the T213 NPP(the most popular NPP in China) through different statistical methods. The corrected T213 NPP(ICM T213 NPP) are evaluated by four popular indices: Correlation coefficient, climate anomalies correlation coefficient, root-mean-square-errors(RMSE), and confidence intervals(CI). The results show that the ICM T213 NPP are more accurate than the original T213 NPP in both the training period(2003–2008) and the validation period(2009–2010). Applications in China over the past three years indicate that the ICM is simple, fast, and reliable.
